Monica Everett, a genius magician, was extremely shy and terrible at speaking in public.

To that end, she worked hard and mastered the art of countless magic, which she could use without chanting. After being chosen as one of the Seven Sages at the tender age of fifteen as the “Silent Witch,” she lived a quiet life in the forest.

However, two years have passed since then, and one day, Monica received an order.

And it was to secretly protect the second prince to the academy undetected.

In order to protect the prince, Monica must infiltrate a glamorous school for the children of noble families.

“I don’t wanna do this… I’m scared… Ugh… My stomach is aching…”

…said the girl whimpering.

Loving this so far, so what I'm getting is that would basically pretend recreate the cliches otome game setting with Monica being the heroine and isabella being the villainess as a disguise to Louis's "mission" on protecting the prince

I'm pretty torn on this rating to be honest. What carries this story, and what fails this story both, are the characters. Many of the characters have their past ghosts explored, their motives plumbed and their worries aired. They don't start attached to the Female lead from the start like many a bad Shoujo novel.

However... 95% of the male cast act like, or are, completely insufferable human tr*sh when they're introduced. Many of them do have character advancement and improve as the story continues... However another gets introduced, and then... more>> another, and yet another.

If this novel was a Shoujo Ai instead of a Shoujo it would be a 4.5 for me. The female cast are generally pleasant and interesting.

As for the plot... Eh... It's got ok mystery, intrigue, and politics. But the story is usually just bullying the shy MC in many different ways by many different people and passing it off as humor. As a shy antisocial myself I empathized with her a lot, honestly surprised I made it as far as I did. Likely won't return tho <<less

The book is extremely young adult but written more like a book then a light novel so for which I really enjoy. There's some world building but it's extremely light. Kind of light reading one of those YA books that are written like twightlight but wayyyyyy better magic/fantasy but thin on the elments of worldbuilding outside of that. It's either going to dump it or speed up the roll out of it from now on. If it's a slow magical world building roll out im actually not mad at it.... more>> But if we end up getting a dump. My rating should be drop 1 star. The magic is really good because it's math base magic... kind of a mix of art and magic in the way solutions are thought of. I almost just I've fallen in love with it because you can almost see the floating dumbers and the beautiful symphony of magic in them. But again, I wish there was a bit more to the book. But for what it is.. so well excuted and very laney with some strong proes which you don't always see in light novel and web novel writing. Just absolutely shocked and enjoying it. It's an addictive page turner once you are a bit more than midway. And you start to understand the weak willness focus which is both funny and tragic at the same time. It's very powerful. People have a habit of writing that characters instantly within 1k words get over things that are life shaping moments for a shut in. I think it's because sadness for the reader weighs them down. And when we read a book we want to excape but as a writer those moments build the stakes so much for a reader so if you can find a way to pull it off like the slient witch writer did it makes for such a powerful story. And slowly as a reader I found myself (outside age group for reader) so questioning how this story is going to end and where it's going and to keep turning the page.

The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is I'm so not the target audince for this book and it just didn't have enough world building moments. I don't understand if this world is all human 100% or not and there's certain question and things I'm just wondering about. The male in the book............ were... a little to flat for me. Except maybe the prince. Almost all the females where so well shape in this book I've rare see women written so complexed. <<less

To my fellow amateur reader,

I recommend this, It may first appear as generic with several layers of cliches, but fear not, reading the raws, this story gets heavier and heavier as it progresses... it was amazingly well done.

Its okay. Like others have said, there are lots of troupes and cliches used in this novel. And I mean that it uses almost all of them, and not in a good way (via satire). The characters are quite literally all cliche with their personalities, backgrounds, and "character development".

That being said, its an okay read. Its seriously more of a slice of life than anything with a plot, so you can largely read a couple of chapters, and nothing significant happens or even matters to the plot, and if you... more>> skipped reading them, you would have missed nothing (yes, not even character development).

If you are looking for a slice of life where the MC (who definitely has some mental problems) try to improve herself and get herself some friends, while navigating romance novel troupes, without any romance, then its okay.

But seriously though, almost everyone she knows... has some terrible personality. Even though there's no romance, the potential ML is quite honestly a annoying and shitty, even till the end, and basically has no respect for the MC's feelings. I guess this might be fine if you are into guys who like sexually harassing/assaulting you, but I don't, so I hate this character as he does it a lot. The author tries to make you think he respects the MC, but clearly he doesn't, and quite frankly, its insulting to the reader's intelligence. You will immediately know who I'm talking about if you read it.

3/5 stars.

Its not the worst, but its definitely not the best. If the side characters weren't written so cliche, and some events so forced, maybe it would be rated higher. If you are out of content to read, then I guess you can give this a try. Oh right, I forgot to mention, but the MC is a big pushover. And I mean big. You think shounen MC's are push overs? You think harem MC's are push overs? They got nothing on this girl, who literally does almost nothing of her own will. <<less

Good story, I liked the characters but it's not perfect. Sometimes the author introduces something and just doesn't do anything with it. For example LITERALLY ALL THE OTHER SEVEN SAGES BESIDES LOUIS AND MONICA and Nero being a black dragon just kinda happened and forgot about. Also I wish there were more moments where Monica shows her power since she is one of the strongest mage in the story (even though it doesn't look like it) but oh well.

Well, this novel is quite boring.

The characters of this novel are extremely generic, like in a generic romance novel, except that it's not a reverse harem. The MC is somewhat frustrating to read, due to her having social anxiety and her not retaliating despite others bullied her.

The world building isn't much, and there isn't much to comment on it either.

... more>> Some of the plots are slightly forced, but I guess that's alright.

Ngl, I feel like this novel should have a slice of life tag, but even if it does, the progress of the story is still way too slow. I literally made it halfway into volume 4 without any significant character development. And since the world building is quite pitiful, this novel can only completely depend on its characters. I really have no idea why the characters are not developed more. Most of the events that happened in the novel are also really boring to read. <<less

To fluff a bit, cool story about a girl with social anxiety secretly f*cking sh*t up with magic.

There's a reverse harem thing semi-going, and that's mostly boring; the characters other than the FL are more the most part pretty flat. The other female characters are a little more interesting. Oddly enough, the c*cky prince lead who she'll probably get with is the most interesting of the men: on the one hand he's actually pretty smart, and on the other hand he turns into a goofy fanboy when the subject of... more>> the FL's alter ego comes up. Watching him seemingly run conversational circles around the poor girl while he's actually totally unaware that she's his idol is pretty fun.

As far as Monica herself goes, the contrast between her shy and cowardly personality and her few moments of hyperfocused brutal mathematical violence is excellent. <<less

Reay good tbh. I thought I was gonna quit reading after a few chapters in because the translation was sometimes literal and wordy, but the translator/s was getting better actually. There were some mistakes but it sort of was okay and understandable compared to other translations done. Thanks to the effort of the author and TL team. 🙏 I'd just like to post this question if I understood it right. Were Louis and the other characters really bullying or violent toward Monica or was the slapstick comedy context lost in the... more>> translation?

As for the story, I guess I would have wanted it to have a more 'josei' tone instead of a shoujo one. The plot had the makings of an intricately woven setup, but I felt limited since this story served as sort of the 'cutesy' and lighthearted type. If this had a more mature and depth to it, I feel it would have explored the conspiracies and character development much better. As it is, at the beginning, I thought that the characters were flat and very stereotypical. However, I did find the development more adorable than impactful. I appreciate the character growth, especially with Monica and how other started changing how they interact with her <<less

This book is amazing.

It's what happen when you insert realism into otome-plot, mixed well with mystery, painted with darker shades of life, and shaped to create an interesting universe that keep subverting your expectations and leave you to chase the pages for answers.

I love that the characters all have their own personality which the author takes time to dwelve through.

... more>> A good person can do bad things, a bad person can do good things, most characters are neither good nor bad - just people taking steps to fulfill their goals/ambitions.

5/5 recommended read. <<less

Monica can be a pushover and she is bad with social interacts but has an extremely detached and calculating side to her personality so rather than op or weak she is more of a glass canon.
This story seems to focus more on friendship, schemes and character development

It barely tiptoes around annoying tropes and cliches, and it doesn't overstay its welcome too long, being a bit over 200 chapters. The ending itself was satisfying enough, and while it's not the best of the best or anything, it's a well planned out novel that will keep you entertained.

Good story but translation is pretty poor at times. Jumbled sentences that make no sense, missing words, wrong words in places and such. Luckily it doesn't happen so often that its impossible to read, but there they are frequent enough that it is very noticable.

The translator's alright but it seems to me that they sometimes forget words, which doesn't detract too much from the reading experience since what's omitted is easy to fill in by yourself. They really need an editor.

It's an enjoyable read but it's a bit too slow for my tastes. I often found myself drifting off to check social media because there's just waaaay too much dedicated to the slice of life character development that I'm unable to engross myself in the story. I know the shy MC and co. Need... more>> to have some build up, but does it need to be soooo wordy? I'm a pretty fast reader so I blazed through all the currently translated material, yet all the progression I've seen is limited to minor character development and some character's backstories. That's just my opinion though so read it for yourself. <<less
