Late at night in the middle of my part time job at a convenience store, I had an encounter with a robber and was mercilessly stabbed to death.

As I was about to lose my consciousness, I thought about how much I wanted to do this and that when I heard a voice……

『The wish to be summoned has been confirmed. Granting Unique Skill 《Jack of all Trades, Master of None》』

Rude words such as that were said. Jack of All Trades, Master of None? Don’t screw with me!

Such thoughts and wishes were for naught as my consciousness faded, when I came too I was standing on a green foggy hill.

The full title is 'I Came to Another World as a Jack of All Trades and a Master of None to Journey while Relying on Quickness'

Do not expect harems, graphic s*x scenes or an angsty violent hero working through his issues. This is a pretty slow story about a guy who relies on 'quickness' both in terms of agility and wit to get through things as he travels from place to place with his partner. As of now, it seems more notable for avoiding annoying cliche than actually doing anything... more>> original itself, so I'm curious to see how it develops.

edit:

So, at chapter 35, I have a pretty good idea of what this novel is now. As another reviewer mentioned, it has a 'slice of life' pacing but is set in a pretty harsh, bloody fantasy world. The romance develops very slowly, as does the protagonist's skills. If you like the idea of a slowly developed 'monogamous' romance and lots of traveling, camping, hunting with a decent amount of realism, and relatively few characters, then you might enjoy this. Definitely not for everyone. Also, I'm the translator. <<less

The main problem I have with this series is actually right there in the premise: the concept that being "Jack of all Trades, Master of None" is a BAD thing. In the story even the freaking Adventurers Guild (who should know better) laughs so much when they find out about our Main Character's power that there are people actually rolling on the ground complaining that their sides hurt.

This. Is. s*upid.

If you stopped to think about it for more than five seconds you would see it's actually incredibly overpowered. A... more>> Jack of All Trades is ALL classes of RPG characters. What use is a specialized bow user if he doesn't have a bow? How about a fire mage during an underwater battle?

If you're a Jack of All Trades, you can create and lay traps (and also disable them), cast combat spells (using any element), heal people (using magic, or first aid, or via a potion - which you also made yourself), create and repair your own equipment, make magic items, and use ANY weapon. No matter what monster you face you will ALWAYS have some way to either kill it or escape it.

The main character is basically Batman now, and there's no way that's not cool.

[END RANT]

Outside of that the story so far is... okay. It's well-translated with good English (+1 star just for that) but is fairly generic fantasy right now. Our MC has already attracted a beautiful half-elf just because he was nice to her one time (which made my eyes roll). <<less

A little background on me as a reader before I start my review:

  • I'm picky as hell
  • hate overly-s*upid characters who have nothing to show for
  • hate forced drama/misunderstandings,
  • "dere" characters are sh*t in my book
  • Hate dumb asf girls that are purely for ecchi moments
  • hate multiple love interests
On to the review part:

I genuinely like this story even though it sometimes touches on my List of Hates, but I appreciate the story and the protagonist making fun and poking jabs at isekai/protagonist stereotypes. Hell, I liked the story so much I caught up with... more>> it in 2 days. I was worried that the female characters would annoy me to death that I would die from anger, but none of it here really.

The romance is fantastic and natural. For once from a Japanese "shounen" webnovel the author actually understood what a woman actually is and not the f*cking "Nyaa~☆ Don't look you dummy!" Fetish under-age girl sh*t. (Im crying real tears of happiness y'all, can you see this?)

Another good point about this novel that there is consistent story-telling and the plot is moving well without filler chapters or the author describing a pebble on the side of the road for 2 pages or a pair of titties for the same amount. As a reader, you don't know what's going to happen next but you always have an idea that we will see a conclusion whether it's happy or not.

Cliches will happen, and I dread them with the same vigor as my PolSci-IA exam. Luckily this novel uses them minimally and at opportune times so that it doesn't feel cheesy or annoying, but instead funny and light.

I might sound like I'm singing praises to the author, but no. There's a lot that annoys me about this novel as well, the main part being how dense the protagonist can be sometimes, but it's not often and he's a very good boy so it doesn't bother me as badly.

People seem to complain about how beta he is, but my argument is that why the f*ck would I want to read a story about an overly-agressive sonovab*tch. Yeah, I prefer an assertive and confident protagonist, but I also prefer this protagonist's humility, grace, and sweetness. So if it's beta then, whoops that my preference.

The characters-that-matter and many of the non-important ones are well fleshed out, quirky in a good way, and very charming. It may take some time to see it, but I think it's well worth it.

This review is aimed at a specific group of people (i.e. My fellow gals, I understand. I was on the fence about this too.) & dudes and nb folks out there who are just absolutely fed up with the current state of webnovels.

Over all, if you're on the fence about this story. Just read it. What I've read to far (103) it's worth the investment. <<less

I love this series. Now to the good and bad points of it

Good points:

Tiger translations are doing a fantastic job at releasing regular translations of a high quality.

... more>> The protagonist, the love interest and the side characters, who often appear for very short episodes, all feel if not real than at the very least not cut out of a piece of cardboard.

The characters, MC included, are far from perfect, they make mistakes and regret them and learn and they have troubles they can't overcome easily.

There're moral questions. The MC doesn't go killing off the monsters without feeling like a heartless maniac, most of the time, but he doesn't whine about it all the time to get annoying. He just adjusts his believes and morals to go on with his life.

MC doesn't change the society. Don't you sometimes hate how in some novels a JP MC goes around while making JP food and everybody just loves it with no raised eyebrows despite cause Bansai Japan? Or how a female MC is an office-worker but suddenly she's also a damn genius pharmacist? Or how they revolutionise magic and stuff despite being all new to it and there being tons of people who dedicated the efforts of their entire lives with no result who probably knew a fair bit more about magic? Well, guess what, the new world has their own food! They don't starve and have an actual food-culture! The MC know sh*t about magic, skills and the system and he certainly doesn't act like a smartass plagiarizing Earth's tech. He just goes about with his adventure with his elven wife. Simple and good.

Slow moments are sweet, the romance is good, the action is interesting.

No harem. Just my view on these things but harems are kinky and gross. I wouldn't bat an eyelid if a girl screws her own little sister as long as they don't screw anyone on the side. But polygamy is just eww. At least for me.

Bad point:

The so-called 'food chapters' I personally have no problems with them, hence my high review. But I'm sure there will be someone who hates them. So, there're chapters when the MC just goes on and on about the taste of a dish he for a good part of the chapter.

It's slooow, which I also don't hate, but, again, some people want to see some blood and intestines.

They travel a lot so there aren't any characters who have been fleshed out as much as the ML and the FL. Again, I have nothing on it, as I mentioned before in the very short time we see the MC interact with the sides the begin to feel realistic and well-made. No cannon-fodder.

Aaand that pretty much concludes my review here. I say it's a good novel, but to some it's gonna be boring as hell. All depends on you but if you wanna try to give it a read I'd say do it! At worst you will lose a few minutes reading a good book that doesn't suit your taste. <<less

Instead of truck-san, we have the second most popular reincarnation death, mu*der! This is a pretty normal isekai reincarnation novel, but the cheat, or uncheat, and the MC seem to be different from the norm. It's impossible to tell too much on c3, but the MC seems to be less squeamish than other isekai protagonists. Since he's a jack of all trades and a master of none, does that mean that he's a jack at being a psychologist? Anyways, we have a (possible) non-beta MC and an interesting cheat in... more>> a normal isekai fantasy.

TL;DR: Action and a possible non-beta MC. <<less

I really loved this story up until around chap 140. The world is well described and interesting. It doesn't devolve into soy sauce/harem territory, although baths are mentioned a lot and there is a lot about cooking.

The MC is very 'japanese mc' in character but seems to be adapting and learning. However once they reach the Empire's river town though it's like the author really cranked up the naivety/s*upidity of the MC to an unbearable level. I tried to keep on reading but just couldn't get into the story anymore.

I have to say, in its genre this light novel is one of the best I have read. A hidden gem. It is a bit of a satire however it still retains a serious side which is exactly how I like my satires. The story is not fast paced but neither does it get boring. It does have a slice-of-life feel to it yet there is still a vague main goal. Translation is high quality as well. If you going to try it, I would recommend to at least read... more>> through the 2nd arc (2nd town/city) before making a judgement. <<less

This is one of those easy-going isekai adventure stories, except without the usual harem shenanigans, and a quickly growing yet not particularly OP protagonist.

  • Premise:
The protagonist is an Japanese clerk who gets shanked to death during night shift, and then he gets isekaid into a fairly standard andventure-friendly world, with the unique skill of being able to naturally use any weapon or skill he has without training. He becomes an adventurer, meets a pretty elf girl, and they go adventuring.

  • Setting:
It's your bog standard medieval isekai world. There is an adventurer guild,... more>> the usual quests ranging from herb-gathering to monster-part fetch quests, the usual monsters, et cetera. People also have access to stats via the guild cards, though the RPG system is very poorly defined.

  • Characters:
Our protagonist is interesting in the early chapters, while he is confused and trying to survive in a hostile forest, but once he reaches civilization, he quickly becomes a fairly vanilla Japanese isekai protagonist; mostly harmless, polite, easily embarrassed, and not particularly compelling. His unique ability only allows him to adapt quickly to sword-fighting and other adventurer skills, but otherwise doesn't really provide much of a leg up on others beside cutting back on the training time required to use things, so it's presence is more or less nonexistent after a while.

The other main character, and the MCs love interest, is a pretty elf with a sad backstory. Their relationship progresses fairly well from acquaintances to student/mentor to comrades to lovers, but once they reach the last stage, it's mostly stagnant, since neither of them have really interesting character quirks or serious character flaws. Once the honeymoon-period dies down, they end up kind of like an old married couple, which is surprisingly realistic, yet at the same time quite boring as well.

  • Plot:
There is no plot, at least not the over-arching, goal-driven variety. The MC becomes an adventurer to make money, then stays an adventurer with the female lead's guidance, then they go on adventures, and between those they are having slow slice-of-life segments with fairly large time-jumps in-between. There is no internal or external driving force behind their actions, they just adventure to make money and to seek thrills, and then they spend the downtime being lovey-dovey in the city.

  • Final verdict:
This is a story designed to scratch a very specific itch. If you want to read a very laidback, easy-going slice of life story of an adventurer couple in a fairly run-of-the-mill fantasy setting, with minimal action and comedy, look no further. Otherwise, you are likely to get bored by the pacing (which is reasonably fast, yet at the same time not a lot of things happen) and the unusually "normal" characters. <<less

This is my #1 favorite LN. The TL is AWESOME. The story line and character development are perfect. There is romance and clear s*x, though not graphic.

This is a perfect novel for those with a mature mind that are tired of the usual childish shounen themed stories with over used cliches (even though this is tagged as shounen). There are boring parts every now and then, but give it a few chapters, and things get interesting again.

I was surprised to find such a well written "slow and relaxed adventure" themed story here. Usually they're shallow, cliched and make no sense.

This one has a well fleshed out MC and his partner and they're the main focus of the story as they travel and meet interesting new people, monsters, and get better and better at kicking ass. All done in a mostly light hearted tone with a dash of witty comedy and dialogue. Plus, the ace translation makes it very enjoyable to read.

This story is OK. Not much going on and the characters become powerful enough to resolve most issues. Some significant negatives though.

The two main characters are in a committed relationship, but they regularly show no consideration for each other to the point that you wonder why they are together. If it was good-natured teasing, that would be one thing, but they just repeatedly grate on each other.

Anytime something bad happens, it feels like it is out-of-nowhere / Deus ex and pretty unfair. If I was RPing as the characters, I'd... more>> be extremely irritated with the DM.

There's no overarching storyline nor point to their travels, which I'd normally be fine with if it wasnt for the occasional absurd unfair happening and the characters being jerks to each other.

There are some interesting things and I believe the author wishes for the characters to be nice, but my guess is they decided the characters would be together early on and ignored the idea of romance and caring for one another after that. <<less

Really like this one but it could be so much better. It is well written, the two main characters are nicely written too, you have adventure, a bit of action, a bit of character developpement... but my god this is some time really boring.

First, the two main characters become fairly quickly a couple, which is nice, I can not stand the too common romance status quo you see often with obvious love but no developpement and long as tension until the end. But here you have the opposite, quickly resolved... more>> relation... and then nothing, no passion, no developpement, just a little sentence every twenty chapter or so at the end that let you think they made love (without even those words, it could be shocking, so do not hope for any nasty words like sex). It is the most boring love ever seen, they are like two old platonic friends, without the author telling you from time to time they love each other every few chapters, you could forget it.

But what you could never forget, and that is the one thing that for me is boring me to death, is the long ass chapters about food. This is not even in the teasing of the novel, not even one of the focus of the main story, but still, you have maybe one fifth of the chapters focused on food... You could cram up every sentences about their romance in one chapter, but on another side you have one fifth of the novel about food, and again, the romance is supposed to be important, not the food.

After that, you have all the boring routine of millions of extra characters all nicer than the other that love the couple. You must have up to now (c337), only a handful of really bad guys, meaning real vilain that want to kill and will not turn suddenly nice after they resolve their conflict, really, those, the real ennemis, you can count them on one hand, at c337. Well you have monsters of course and a few bandits, but that does not count, I am talking about real vilain with goals and a name.

But in the end, despite all the boring stuff, it is well written, enough so that, even if bored to death and skipping chapters after chapters of food, I keep coming back to follow this couple of adventurers, they are endearing, and I keep hoping for more, despite knowing full well that this author will never, develop them more than that and will prefer to keep insisting writting about how much he like food. This could be so much more, this could be one of the best... <<less

It's a refreshing type of novel it doesn't give you the "hey I got isekai'd and super strong" cliché type of isekai genre it's mostly a slice of life type that feels like your reading the MC's journal or diary.

It's also quite fun to read if you're interested in a new pace of the isekai genre. Personally I find it really relaxing well there is still some typical isekai cliches, but its tolerable.

No harem gathering MC is cool because he doesn't need one, he keep telling to his self that... more>> he's not the typical protagonist and just want to spend his time with the one he truly loves and just travel the world together.

Some might not agree with me but if you're tired of all those harem gathering, defeat the demon king, cheat code activated MC's then try reading this for a change <<less

Pretty much a summary of what this novel is like is:

Take an annoying couple from another story, one that flaunts their love in public. The type the protagonist would like to slap for being so cringe/mocking him for being single.

You got that image?

Now make THEM the protagonists.

And now have them travel from town to town, where they do food reviews and flashy adventurer sh*t that gets them attention (Despite the MC repeatedly saying he doesn't want attention).

That is basically the whole story so far.

Its not "so bad" that I won't continue reading it, but at the same time... There doesn't seem to be any payoff for reading it, at least not yet.

And as a side-note: There is no challenge because the MC can basically do anything with ease. Some may wonder if he'll end up limited by the "master of none" portion of his unique skill. To that I'll respond with: Does it matter if he doesn't fully master any specific skill as long as he reaches the threshold of mastering, not just one, but an infinite amount of skills? <<less

This novel isn't everyone's cup of tea but for those of you who enjoy a bit of realism, and a slow-pacing story that builds up with character growth overtime, this is right up your alley. This is about as close as you can get for a detail telling of an isekai story. The chapters themselves feels like someone's journal entry.

Now I'm not saying the novel go full-on, in-depth realism down to the last detail.. But at the very least you get a very good grasp, and sense of what it... more>> is like to be an isekai adventurer living in a fantasy world.

The novel does a good job of portraying the MC's story, love life and how he came from being a nobody, noob adventurer to being a well-known top tier. As the MC isn't strong right from the start. He had to train his way up and came close to dying/receiving major injuries a few times.

I highly recommend this for anyone who wants a different spin on the isekai genre. <<less

So a rating of 4 isn't bad by any means but this novel definitely deserves better. It's not a normal isekai where an MC has to go fight the demon lord or whatever, it just seems to be a random occurrence which makes the story far more fun to read. The MC isn't bringing his culture to this new world, he assimilates himself to a brand new place which makes it far more fun to read. You become engrossed in a new world with the main character which is quite... more>> rare. As for the romance, it's a relationship that feels far more fulfilling than just an "I love you" and an "I love you too" relationship. The two main characters feel like best friends and honestly, it's just fun to read chapters just about them traveling and eating. It seems a little unrealistic, yes I know this is a fantasy, that they would be fighting all the time. Don't get me wrong, there is action and there is a tiny bit of drama at some points but it's nothing too jarring and provides a nice break from the slice of life. A good novel that doesn't pretend to be anything other than what it is. <<less
