Edit: I had to change my entire review because some things in the story dramatically changed.

Fair warning before you read this: The story deals with a ML with a mental disability. It's been established that the ML has Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) not schizophrenia. The tone is a bit rough since people treat him badly considering the time period. There are mentions of people including family members calling the ML "fool" "s*upid" etc. And some degrading by third-party characters. But the FL does not treat the ML-like this. There are... more>> a few complaints that the FL could have done more research on his condition considering that she's from modern times but there's only so much that the FL could have done. She's not a doctor, it's the 70s so she can't find a doctor, and she has zero experience in treating DID so I feel like it's unfair that people changed their reviews, gave it a bad rating, etc. Based on this. If I or you were in the FL's situation we wouldn't know what to do either outside of what we read in books and our best estimate/guess. Which is what the FL did.

Anyway, me personally, it doesn't bother me that much with the slurs and degrading (except when it does,) but it's a trigger warning. I wanted to mention it.

To sum up the story without any spoilers: the MC ends up in one of her favourite novels as a character and changes things to survive and help the ML. The MC is goal orientated and wants to have a good, lazy life so she tries to do so by using her knowledge of the future along with her golden finger. The MC is cunning for a woman, has a strong will, and is funny at times.

I enjoyed the MC and ML the most, up until a point. There's a turning point in the story involving the ML's DID and his three personalities as shown on the cover/description
Spoiler

Since each personality is the ML, they vanish when he solves issues. The MC's favorite personality is the third one, which is pretty rough, sort of a gangster type. So a majority of the story is about her spending time with him, spoiling him, branching out a relationship with him, and even sleeping with him. She is barely with the first personality after this point and barely spends time with the second too. I know that one has the mentality of a six-year-old and the other is kind of cold, but I would have liked if the MC actually went out of her way to find out more about the second and changed the relationships she had with both of them before they vanished.

[collapse]

It made me feel bad because the author could have expanded the relationship between the ML's other personalities along with the MC but the spoiler just happened like BOOM. I know that she prefers one over the other but in terms of characterization, it makes her seem shallow and kind of cold.

I can't stand the family members at all.
Spoiler

especially when it's revealed that the family members are the cause of the ML's DID and the ML's parents even sold him off to someone else to get abused.

[collapse]
And there's a lot of dramatic dog blood and karma. It is refreshing though and a good point to see a Chinese based novel with a cunning MC that isn't super op. Her ability can be broken but so far she's not abusing it and relying on the ML's abilities too. She also relies on other people when she can so that's one good point with the MC.

Beside the MC and ML everyone else is kind of there at this point, since the focal is about the ML's DID and how it interacts with the world and MC along with their antics and interactions.

I would give this a three or a 3.5 at the most but I'm not changing my star review. I don't hate the story but I don't like how I ended up liking it less when it went on. It's not boring but kind of sad. <<less

First off, the translation is nice, I wouldn't complain.

The story though.

It's one of few novels that kept me asking myself why did I bother? Started off with an interesting premise, I didn't care much about how realistic the story is, just treated it as a fantasy, still.

Spoiler
  • MC and ML were surrounded with terrible people and unfavourable circumstances. Conflicts happened. They solved it either with their smart mouths/violence/minimal brain usage. It felt like things hardly happened and when they did, it felt like they did for the sake of adding more texts.
  • Unlike a handful of people here, I don't have any problem with the MC being biased. But they way the story was told made me so uncomfortable. It was as if the ML were three different people (and they were, weren't they?). Their inner struggles were sometimes painful to read.
  • Despite being described as a merge, I don't think three personalities of ML merged at all. They just disappeared. I kept reading because I was curious about how the author would solve the ML's end. It was supposed to be a happy ending of some sort, but the resolution made me sad.
  • I'm gonna be honest here, the main personality of the ML was bland. I can totally see why the MC was biased towards the third.

I was first reluctant to read it due to the negative comments on MC's personality... But since I really love 70s transmigration novels I gave it a try and I was glad that I gave it a chance.

All the negative comments about MC is true. She's not good, and she's selfish and somewhat immature in dealing with some things especially on how she deals ML's mental illness. But you have to know that her mental age is just a highschool graduate whose 18 yrs old and preparing for the natl... more>> exam, who haven't experienced much from the adult world. Considering these shortcomings, I think she handled the circumstances well somehow to the best of her abilities.

And you can't blame MC too much from being bias to the third personality of ML because her circumstances at that time is very vulnerable and there's also the culture shock of sudden transmigration. For her sanity she'll definitely look for security.

Overall although MC is flawed, I like how she's true to herself.

Nevertheless, I still think that if only the author has done more research in dissociative disorder, this. Novel will be more substantial context wise. <<less

Truly enjoyable, nothing to really pick on (beside maybe her over-the-top love for the third personality and being biased toward it, and overlooking the true personality........... it was weird like she knows he is a part of him, but she acts like he is a true individual)....... So as I was saying nothing to really pick on ^^

Similar to other written back to 60s, 70s, stuff. Good to pass the time. There are better ones out there. Shanghai fantasy translator does edit the webnovel but it's clearly mtled as a lot of parts still have gender pronoun wrong among other thing in the text.

I won't say much aside from, the MC is literally an IDIOT and unlikeable. Like gosh her words and decisions contradicts her actions. I don't like how he treats the ML differently and how she keeps forcing, using her golden finger to make the third personality come out. WORST MC so far I have read.

If you want some spoilers from up to the 49th chapter, then go and read my thoughts about the novel, but this is literally only a review of me after reading the novel for a limited amount of chapters because I couldn't take the plot and its characters anymore.

Spoiler

I liked the MC at first, but as I continued to read the novel, it felt like she wasn't treating the ML correctly in terms of when she's interacting with the three personalities. I also didn't like it whenever she favors the villain ML and makes him come out more than the child ML and the depressed ML using her golden finger. It felt really unfair to them, especially when she was asked which of the three does she want and she answered WITHOUT HESITATION that it was the villain ML that she wants to stay and be with her more.

It was especially unfair and painful when the three personalities of the ML share their memories together, so they obviously knew her answer during her conversation with the villain ML.

And also, what's up with her golden finger? Like, WHY THE f*ck IS IT EVEN IN THE STORY WHEN IT'S NOT VERY MUCH MENTIONED AND PROTRAYED IN THE NOVEL!? I've already read more than half of the contents in the novel and I was so dissatisfied with this part of the novel. There were so many things she could use it for, but didn't even bother to.

I tried to keep on reading, but in the end, I couldn't.

The MC was a pretty good character at first, but became kind of selfish, useless, annoying, biased, and not that smart, despite how it was said in some chapters that she is.

And what the f*ck is up those minor villains and cannon fodders' IQ? I know that it's for the plot, but OMG! God dang it! So hateful!

And the parents of the ML? Sure, they are somewhat good people, but sold the ML away and gave him trauma but then brought him back due to the fact they couldn't have another child?

And they were forgiven? Just because they treated the MC right?

HA. HA. HA.

I can't believe this.

C14:

I really can't understand how the female lead' brain work! Seriously!
There someone whom you meet for the first time, was bulling your husband and then was sexually harassing you and keep touching you, saying he would like to enjoy having s*x with you, but rather than protacting yourself, you would stand still and do nothing just because you don't know if this man characther was in the novel or not, and she was not sure how should she act???! For real? Seriously!

ــــــــــــــــــــــــــ

Update:

I liked the story as all, the novel is enjoyable.
But I have somethings that I have to say. Really, in all the novel, the women in their family is the dominating all the time without any exception while the men just a backgound, doesn't have any thoughts of their own, can't say anything to their wifes or even daughters! Also the women has to do everything in their families, even things that should be a man who do it, they will do it while the men will just sit idle at home. I mean it's not like only the men whom get out and work outside the house in the fileds and their women are sitted at home so they can do everything else to lessen the bourden from their men. No, they All get out together to work and they do the same amount work too, but when they came to their house, the women will do the women work at home as house chors and also do the men work! Like going to talke to the viliage' head to split the family, that's men job but the women whom go to do that. Buying things, cleaning the house, cooking, taking care of the children, talking to other men to solved broblems, cracking their heads to get some idias for their famiely, managing the money..... elc. the women do every. lettel. thing while the men won't do any thing at all!!
The author has write these men as a vase, their words, reactions, thoughts, in all the novel can be count on the hand.

The translation can't be said a good one at all, but it can be a pass at least.

This was an absolutely adorable story. A little bit of Mary Sue with the MC, but overall just sweet fluff. The MC has a cheat.

Spoiler

MC has a space that she can only access while she’s asleep. If you take something out of it by the time she gets back in it it’s already replaced.

[collapse]

Regarding the ML - HE DOES NOT HAVE SCHIZOPHRENIA, more likely it is dissociative identity disorder (DID)

Spoiler

ML has three personalities (as you should know from the blurb), first one is a six-year-old child, second is a depressed introverted version of ML, and the third is and arrogant and violence version of ML. In first third to half of the story, the main identity is the six-year-old personality. But MC quickly realizes that her favorite is the third personality. MC learns that she can bring ML into her space and from there choose which personality she wants to bring out with her, as the third personality is her favorite, that’s usually her choice. As the story goes on, the main personality, the six-year-old child, is erased absorbed I’m not sure of the specific terminology but you’re left with the remaining two. From there it’s a battle of who will remain: Spoiler Alert

it is the second personality, but overtime the third personality becomes integrated within him.

[collapse]

Overall this was a fun story that I loved reading, it kept me laughing and interested the entire way through. I would definitely recommend. <<less

Strong start but an incredibly weak finish. At least it didn't get into college.

The MC is a transmigrator into the 70s who discovers she has a space identical to the room she died in, including a computer she can use to order goods from Tabao. She can take things out of this space when she wakes up, this also includes the book this new life is based on (which is not as big of a plot point as you think). She's smart but has zero skills other than being capable... more>> of convincing the ML to do what she wants.

The ML has multiple personalities that are the result of being locked in a freezing woodshed for three days and then being sold to a different family that abused him. The first resulted in a 6-year-old-personality that was his way of dealing with people. The second resulted in a diet-psychopath-personality. The main personality is a quiet but slightly depressed young man who cannot cope with his family or what happened to him.

Spoiler

So he was locked in the woodshed because he was accused of stealing money and just coincidentally had 10 yuan in his pocket. He developed a fever and they all assumed it cooked his brain and made him mentally daft but it created the second personality (referred to as the first in the story because it's the first one that the MC meets).

Then when he was sold, he was abused and starved so the third personality comes into existence to protect him. His parents then refer to the original personality and the third as "demons" and literally keep trying to exorcise them.

[collapse]

The plot starts off strong as the MC adapts to the world she's now in but it quickly begins to falter. As mentioned above, she has zero skills. She cannot cook (food is bland at best), sew or do much to help the family starting out other than being a smart ass with a sharp mouth. Her only benefit to the ML is her space which she uses to take objects out for them to sell.

We follow along as the extra personalities begin to disappear and the ML gets his revenge against those who harmed him (or puts aside his grudge like he does with his parents). But by the point of the ML becoming a singular personality (with the others merging into one), the story has pretty much lost its appeal. It was almost like the author could not think of what to do after that and just quickly wrapped up the story.

Spoiler

Final few chapters literally has a "do-over" of the ML and MC's wedding as they didn't have one, the cousin giving an apology speech because she tried to ruin the couple, the MC getting pregnant, the college exams and then a small blurb about the future and how the ML opened up a business and the Original FL and ML ended up working for him.

[collapse]

If you've read other "Into the 70s" stories or just stories that have a decent ending, this will be incredibly lacking. Definitely not something I recommend. <<less

This novel was to my liking!

I felt the ending was a bit rushed, but there was no loose endings in the ML's counterattack against everyone who bullied him and induced his split personality into three identities.

Spoiler
  • First personality, and first to be assimilated/disappear, was the 6-year-old Yan Yang. Basically this trait gave him "the fool" nickname in the ShanYan Village. He was innocent and well-behaved, but awfully bullied, until his wife joined his family.
  • Second personality, and the master of the body, was introverted and depressed. He had difficulty expressing himself to others, avoiding interactions with others and secluding himself into books. He started developing assimilation with the other personality traits in pursuit of improving himself when he acknowledged his wife.
  • Third personaly, quite favored by the FL, was violent, ill-tempered, decisive, pragmatic, and talented in business. (I personally cried when he was assimilated with the second personality... until I understood that those three personalities were fused into one, as it was meant to be from the beginning.)
[collapse]

Thanks to the acceptance of Lin XiaoYue (FL) of the three personalities of Yan Yang (ML), his original devastating ending changed into one of a doting husband and successful businessman.

I also liked that Bai XiaoChun, the original FL of the book, wasn't revered by neither XiaoYue nor XiaoYang. She was truly meant to be shipped with Lu XiaoMing, both s*upid to the bone under the umbrella of self-righteousness. They just stretched their hands too far e.e

All in all, this novel was such a quick reading! The chemistry of the main couple is touching. <<less

A good story but a few things bothered me.

I want to complaint!

Spoiler

ML has multiple personality. FL mentioned her bias towards the third, the violent and a bit rogue personality too much from the start. And here I thought it was a phase, but no, she mentioned it to the point readers (me) get uncomfortable! It's so frustrating. Not to mention, one of the personality was gone so suddenly. The last chapter is also written hastily.

Author completely ruins the FL and has ML in a perpetually suppressed state for life.

Spoiler

The bias FL showed was utterly cruel. I don’t know why the author tried to show her as helpful and have her bring out the book on DID, if they were going to give her an extra, ridiculous golden finger of being able to choose who she brought out to the real world and have her be shamelessly biased.

It’s mildly devastating to read that Yan Yang, who was abused as a child so badly that first his mind stopped, split and then late developed a very violent personality to protect himself, ends up being further suppressed by the woman who claims she will help him and loves him. Well apparently she completely f*cking disregards that the 3rd personality is also him and that it’s born out of immense abuse and that instead of being a selfish thot for it, she should be helping it finally have peace of mind.

Atp I’m wondering if author hated Yan Yang, because having Yan Yang turn more into the 3rd personality after “assimilation” and have him kill off his own desires, of liking to read, study and get into college, was really malicious and cruel.

[collapse]

Giving this 2 stars simple for Yang 2. FL is awful, the ones needing to be face slapped are ridiculous and don’t get satisfying punishment and horrible people are easily allowed to life and forgiven, such as the ML’s father and grandparents. <<less

I give this novel rated 5.

Well, it was refreshing to read a novel from 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's transmigrated type novel that not focus of being in the top or revenge in enemies.

This novel MC just focus on being having a relax and carefree life. And it was nice, and that's make it refreshing to read.

I started reading this few days ago and already finished, it was lighthearted through the novel accept for some parts where they revenged on the ML’s relatives. But one thing I kind of dislike what the FL did was how she always want to take the third personality out almost everyday. It wasn’t fair at all. And I know how the author portrayed DID wasn’t that accurate but it was okay. Overall the novel was okay but it wasn’t that good but it’s not that bad either.

So... this story is a good average read.

Nothing spectacular but a casual one.

Yes the fact that men were a bit too submissive is a bit ummm... but interesting. Wife s*ave do exist and wimps do too. (Shrug)

... more>> The ending felt a bit rushed. I would have liked to read a bit more about their comfortable life and how they went though the changes on time.

I mean the MC if from the future relatively speaking. And she knows all the technology that will come out. It would have been nice to see how she experienced this with the ML. <<less

The would have given it 5 * but I gave it 4* cos I dont believe what the ML has is schizophrenia. I dont know if its translation error. But the symptoms for schizophrenia are much more different (I got the info from the NHS website plus actual experience) When I think more about, I would actually rate it lower cos its spreading misinformation. But now the review wont change the number...

Story wise its good, easy read. I like the MC views, and how she doesnt really shy away... more>> from the errrmm 'physical' relationship with her husband. The relationships are very good between characters, and theres just enough drama to keep it interesting. <<less

3 stars... thought it would be quite an interesting read considering the split personalities and I usually enjoy gold finger books set in the 60s to 80s but this was rather boring. The characters felt quite flat. The MC and ML didn't really have any chemistry to me. The ending was also handled haphazardly with like one paragraph to sort it out.

The first half was good and interesting. A cosmologist, applying for the Ph.D. Program in theoretical physics suddenly transmigrates and becomes a peasant woman sold to be a wife to a man with the mind of a six years old child.

In reality, that infantile personality is a secondary one, the man has three of them!

The story is about the tortured main personality growing stronger, step by step,

Spoiler

and getting the girl in the end! The FL will become his.

[collapse]

the infantile one will disappear eventually, which was sort of shocking, in true DID such thing will never happen. And the third personality is the most problematic. He is secondary, has no control over the body, but the FL loves him dearly, unlike the main personality.

Just like other readers, I felt terrible about such bias in the FL's heart. And actions. She was suppressing one and letting another out, affecting the ecology of the inner world of another human being. She essentially had two husbands in one body and did not favor the main one, he was too socially undeveloped and withdrawn, ill with PTSD, gentle and "scholarly" to her taste. She liked the angry and violent, the manly one who was making lots of money, brought her meat and did not care about the books/studies.

Spoiler

I was really not interested to know how it would be resolved by reabsorbing the third onto the main. What a terrible idea! And with each new chapter I cared less and less about the FL with her lack of any activities, ambitions or goals. Her teenaged husband was cooking, her husband was making money to buy a house, her husband was planting rice, while she was basically in bed with a fresh novel to read all the time or going for a stroll in the countryside. Granted, she was simply enjoying her second youth and "vacations" of sorts after years of gruelling studies in previous life, which is awesome, but we know how old and mature she really is in years and achievements.

Dropped.
