I'm on chapter 94 right now and it saddens me to say this but I have to revise down my rating for this novel (I initially rated it 5 stars at chapter 7).

Spoiler

The thing is, novels often make some kind of contract with their readers where they give a sign that things will get better later on. The readers latch on to this and believe it will keep getting better, and when it doesn't the readers are sorely disappointed.

That's what happened with this novel.

The situations in the novel are contrived, the personalities of governments are distorted so as to let the MC get his way. For example, the MC went to North Korea and blew up a ton of shit, threatened the North Korean leader's life, and gets off scot free because - get this - the North Korean leader is secretly a fan of the Roused.

The MC beats up a guild leader live on TV and yet he is not taken to prison for assault. Why?

He makes enemies through pure recklessness left and right (several large top-tier guilds, the north korean government, the south korean government, the US government, and counting) and nobody things of doing things to disturb him like kidnapping his family or girlfriend or anything.

If you are making enemies with governments and large organizations with significant amounts of resources, influence, not to mention PEOPLE WITH f*ckING SUPERPOWERS, I would expect them to be sending assassins and hitmen after you and your family and anyone associated with you. The fact that this doesn't happen at all is another weird thing. It's like the entire universe conspires to let the MC have his way.

Chapter 94 is the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back for me. He gets attacked by a terrorist (hired by one of the 72 minions of Trahnet). Okay. Then he goes on a rampage and decides to "kill all terrorists". I'm not sure if this is a translation error or... what is his definition of a terrorist, exactly? What counts as a terrorist organization? Anyone who wants to blow up other people for political purposes? How the f*ck is he going to find all of those people?

I can understand this if he has telepathy. He doesn't. He can see people's souls, but that didn't stop him from getting blown up by a girl who had a pure soul. So he can't actually tell, just by looking, who is a terrorist and who is not. So I ask again how the f*ck is he going to kill all the terrorists? How does he know who is a terrorist and who isn't? No answer. The novel just says yeah so he kills all the terrorists. gg. Doesn't give any indication of how he accomplished this task, which by all that we know about his abilities, should be impossible for him. The thing is these terrorists could be hiding in the mountains or anywhere, and he doesn't have any abilities that will let him just sniff them out.

It just smacks of the worst types of power fantasy. You know the ones where you get to disregard world governments and just do whatever the f*ck you want, assault people on live TV and get off scot-free, kill all the insurgents (that Soviet and later Coalition forces couldn't root out after decades of constant fighting and trillions of $$$ spent) and kill hostages without consequences etc. Which would be okay if his abilities allowed him to do it, but he clearly does not have these powers (the least that would be required is telepathy, else you have no way to kill all terrorists), plus everyone else acts ret*rded (not attacking his family etc). Just... not as well thought out as I expected it to be, I guess.

Updating my review, giving this a rating of 1.5/5 and permanently dropping this novel. Read further below for my earlier review.

[Updated Review]
What can I say, it's pretty bad. The character is downright unlikable due to his way of intruding into other people's lives as well as his complete incompetence. You'd think that after surviving hell, that he'd be pretty smart on his feet. Nope, he instantly gets scammed. He doesn't do any actual research after returning to his planet, which suddenly had dungeons popping up which had... more>> monsters from the hell he had been through.

I actually can't put my thoughts into words well because of how bad the novel is.

The novel feels like it's actually focusing on the s*upidity of the characters in it instead of the world which could have been interesting. (Especially the guy who offers to be the MC's s*ave thinking he owed way more than what the MC was asking for despite the MC trying to decline. The guy is probably in the novel to serve as the brains / common sense of the brainless MC but even his "introdution" to the part is done s*upidly)

Basically, it's a novel which is extremely shallow. It's extremely lazily made, from the descriptions, "comedy", conversations, etc., to the whole "game-like" system. Honestly, for me, most Korean mmorpg novels are just like the equivalent of Mangas where authors just keep using fanservice / ecchi illustrations to draw readers in. Most have absolutely no substance (there are gems among the genre though). People who like OP MCs might like it or those who like uhhh... "light" / "simple" humor / tone. Honestly though, I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. I mean, I find it to be this bad despite only being 31 chapters in. Terrible considering almost all novels get worse when they each 100+ chapters.

[Original Review]
Won't be rating it yet since there's not enough chapters to actually rate but I guess I'll check it out again when there's 20 translated chapters or more already.

Based on the 8 chapters I've read so far though I guess it's okay. That doesn't say much though since it's easy to start writing mmorpg-based novels.

You basically just think of an mmorpg you've played and describe stats / classes / skills / items / quests / etc for the first few chapters. It's also pretty easy to cheat the word count by spamming character/ item stats. We'll see though. Right now the novel is still just explaining basic mmorpg elements and a little of the MC's background story.

Hoping this doesn't become like the typical LMS/Ark type of novel where greed is pretty much the MC's driving force. Also hoping that the MC doesn't just keep getting OP items / skills etc like most mmorpg based novels.

One thing I'm worried about though is the translator. Looks like he's just trying to translate different novels and trying to have a feel of which one will earn more. Right now he's releasing chapters every 1.8 days but If I remember correctly, he's translating 4 novels and his schedule is to release 2 chapters for 2 novels every week. That means that he'll alternate which novels he releases chapters for, so expect only 2 chapters every other week for this novel (unless donations come in). Also read in one of his posts that he's going to be busier.

Oh well, we'll see what happens to the novel and the translation. <<less

I don't know why Korean novels manage to bring forth such entertaining premises only to change them as time goes on. It's like running downhill at full speed only to come to a sudden stop as you change your direction towards a tree. Seoul Station Necromancer remained true to its title for about ten to twenty chapters. After that we obtain the ... more>>
Spoiler

dual classes

[collapse]
Why is it a problem? Simply because everyone was attracted towards this dark branch that magicians in novels rarely move onto. Instead we obtain a Korean Kirito. Even so, there were a few redeeming factors, as the bad reputation of the protagonist made everyone feel excited imagining the scenes of carnage that will follow once he decides to
Spoiler

1) take over Korea 2) take over the world 3) become the biggest enemy of the entire universe and all its dimensions.

[collapse]

A few scenes managed to attract most my attention thanks to their let's call it less than usual way to depict a protagonist:
Spoiler

One of them is when Melody, the high priest of the other world acts like a s*ave towards him because of his reputation, treating him like an evil god. Second, his march in the desert with tens of thousands of summoned beings to destroy some terror group that was hired to kill him

[collapse]
These two were the cream of the crop. They fixed a path of carnage that made my blood boil... yet the author f**ked up.
Why? More exactly, he downsized the protagonists evil actions by giving him some cheesy backstory
Spoiler

he didn't attack anyone, he just protected his land, he only became a monarch over a territory no one wanted, etc etc

[collapse]
This was the base for the sudden change of the protagonist. First, the protagonist became a lot meeker, no longer interested in carnage or sh*t like this. His love life became a chain that we are reminded from time to time and his friends... well, they are simply said the ads you are forced to see when watching an interactive sport game. They somehow get in trouble, they barely mange to survive when suddenly !!Super Hero Intervention!!.... the protagonist appears and saves the f**king day.

Now, at the third part of the story,
Spoiler

We get crap like inter dimensional conflicts that resemble a game of Starcraft with the possibility of a duel between the two lords as revenge by the losing party. The 72 minions of the evil god that wanted to invade the planet are suddenly acting like chess players, while other worlds have entered the stage. I sh*t you not, the entire world is f**king attacked by a huge army of another world, yet the 72 minions that are way stronger than these shitheads haven't sent their armies to do the same thing. The story slowed its already snail like pace to raise the levels of the rest of the protagonist party, his sister is suddenly sick with some god seed which can make her capable of receiving information and power from one god that will chose her, and next who knows, maybe his mother will become terminator. The last chapters detail the invasion of the planet of those that have previously tried to invade earth. Which should take a while as other characters suddenly joined the party

[collapse]
In conclusion, this story is worth its rating only if you stop reading after 70, 80 chapters. After that the story changes a lot, and it becomes impossible to recognize the protagonist. For me, as it is right now, it is not worth more than two stars. <<less

The story begins rather well. And then, as the story progresses, the harshness of reality begins to blind again. It's fine that the protagonist is uncomfortable in social situations. It only makes sense in the context, as he had been an undead king for twenty odd years.

And then there's the problem. The author as with any other Korean authors adores to trumpet the supremacy of South Korea in a very roundabout way. And so he has done with this story as well. Secondly, the protagonist is rather irrational, he's oddly... more>> sentimental, and emotional in times during which it doesn't make sense to be at all. In the end, he Just becomes the 'destined hero'. God knows how, but he becomes one regardless due to some random prophetess. Brilliant way to ruin an already aimless story.

This story has no purpose, but to exponentially increase the size of the protagonist's ego, as well as that of South Korea. <<less

Man oh man! This story is so freaking awesome! Especially the MC!! He's definitely the best protagonist in my opinion! He doesn't take sh*t from no one, he's strong, he's funny, he follows his promises, he loves his family, he helps power upping his followers without acting too shitty towards them (Weed, man I just hate how he treats his creations/minions) he's pretty blunt and he doesn't need to trick people cus he's that great! Not to mention that he bit*h slapped a goddamn tsundere wannabe without any hesitation. And... more>> he's not a goddamned pe*verted harem seeking pu*sy that can't say no to a pretty face with a v*gina. <<less

The title of the novel did not catch my attention, but I read it while I was waiting for updates on my favorite novels. I am glad I began reading this novel, because it has become one of my favorites. The MC was teleported to another world, and he fought and survive for 20 years in this foreign world. Yet, on Earth only five years passed when he returned. Some of the situations he faced in the foreign world are happening in Seoul as part of dungeons at the moment.... more>> I guess the dungeons could be seen as gates to the other world, where the monsters are scouts for an invading army.

There are MC's that are funny and some that have their moments, but this MC makes me laugh too much. The MC is laid-back and a badasss. If it was not for some of his underlings trying to calm him down, he would destroy whoever angers him. I do not want to explain more, because I could write an essay on the times the MC made me laugh. Also, the MC stops focusing on money after he makes enough to live, unlike Weed from LMS. The MC he has more of a personality than the MC's from Reincarnator and King of the Battlefield.

I suggest reading ten chapters, one should have an idea if this novel is for them after that.

Sigh... I had to drop this story. The MC was more funny than arrogant, but has become more arrogant and less funny and the I feel the domain battles are boring and useless. <<less

This is definitely one of the best series currently on novelupdates... Fast pace, funny, plenty of fights, great MC. There are way too many good points here. We'll see if the story will work out but for me new chapters of this novel are currently one of the most anticipated updates. Might be really hard to swallow for some of the readers (as I saw in one of the reviews) but it's worth at least a try. For me it was a great hit.

Very intriguing and interesting story which keeps the reader interested and hooked. The story structure is similar to Everyone else is an returnee and I am a superstar. It has many reaction chapters and the MC was the only one who came back from a fantasy world completely opposite plot with Everyone Else is an returnee. The translation quality is great not many uncomfortable sentences. If you are looking for not so over the top OP MC who none knows then this is for you. The MC is not Beta... more>> male or an arrogant prick rather an Alpha but not so arrogant to the point of f*cking with everyone. He just minds his own business and if anyone disturbs him he acts all grumpy. <<less

Actually interesting. People shouldn't take everything so seriously though. There's a lot of Korean humor in here but one reviewer actually took it personal that MC forced his way into some kid's home. If you have read Korean novels/comics and watched shows/movies then you'll understand what I mean. Besides that, it's nothing ORIGINAL but what is anymore? Still manages to keep you entertained and that is the sole purpose of these novels, no? PS It's not Shakespeare but I prefer this better anyway

The MC is a psychopathic muscle headed jerk who is no better than a villain. The people are supposed to see him as a hero yet he has no redeeming characteristics except for his OP powers. The MC is dumb and does what he does because he has the power to do so. His personality is the worst.

But what's worse than the tr*shy MC is the way the author tries to justify what he does.

Spoiler

I even wonder how he survived Alphen with how dumb he was.

If he did not have the power to see through souls, he'd probably be a clown unable to see through the simplest tricks.

[collapse]

The character's actions justify his character not other way around. The MC is immature. Did I mention the MC is dumb as a rock?

The suspense buildup is dismally stale. The comedy isn't even funny.

A huge part of what makes a story interesting are its characters. I regret having read this but I have motto to read things through to the end. I had high hopes that the MC would go through a bit of character development (duh, this is supposed to be seinen? The MC's, personality hasn't changed from chapter 1 to chapter 185), I am sorely disappointed.

It was a waste of time reading this. <<less

Definitely has promise. The MC is a necromancer and was teleported to a fantasy world. When he finally gets back his level is reset and the real world now has dungeons. The MC seems to have some personality from the 8 chapters translated.

Will update this as the story progresses.

I can't understand the overwhelming 5 star rating this novel has.

I mean, the writing is decent, but definitely not great, and the translation is good, but apart from that, there is a lot that is middling in this.

Descriptions and explanations are lacking at best, most characters barely have anything to them and are a bit inconsistent, for example.

... more>> The setting is somewhat unusual (it's not new, but not overused either), but the stats and skill system is fairly dull, which doesn't help setting a decent base.

Not to mention that the first thing a necromancer does apparently is upping the physical stats and fighting with a hammer.

It's not like it's a terrible story in itself, but I fail to see how it could count as a novel with such a top tier rating.
Maybe it's just not for me, maybe there are things that I don't get right (especially cultural references).
All I can say for certain is that the "quality" of this work is slightly above my "average".

NOTE: The initial chapters are really not demonstrating a good first impression, it does get better after a while, but first impressions matter too. <<less

Super recommended. I really like how the MC treat other people like hes the boss. Cause basically he has the experience to boast. But not too arrogant nor domineering. He just treat people who is plotting like a kid and how relax he is infront of the danger classic. One of my most appreciated novel here and the most awaited too.

First of all, it's hilarious. I definitely remember laughing a lot throughout the story. Secondly, the MC is a badass, so there's that. Third, there's a decent amount of action, but not too much. It's still a Korean novel so you should expect it to be written in a similar manner to other Korean stories.

I'd definitely recommend it for anyone who likes xianxia or RPG stories. If you're looking for slice-of-life... You're in the wrong place lmao. Seriously, I saw someone say that they didn't like the story because it... more>> had too much action. Someone else complained about political undertones?

Personally, this is one of my favorite Korean novels so far. Definitely up there with "Dungeon Hunter", "Dimensional Sovereign" and "Everyone Else is a Returnee". <<less

I love korean novels, they're the most rational. The plot isn't so obvious. The MCs are decent human beings or really weird but acceptable, you know, what MCs are supposed to be in any novel. I know it's not about this novel in particular but this one isn't an exception. Korean novels are a good bridge between chinese novel and western novels, I like it very very much.

Good start. I like the mc's personality. Seems well suited to his ability as a necromancer. Not a psycho who likes to kill but uses the right amount of intimidation to get what he wants. So far all he'd killed are Player Killers themselves.

He has a family, a mother and a sister. They are important to him. And doesn't forget them.

A MC who was once a normal kind human being turned into an all powerful sociopath who is in his own way trying to save the world. Unique MC, but not for those who expects a goody two shoes, however his sociopathic tendencies is often hilarious to those of us who like dark humor. Even though he is a heartless death machine, his remaining slivers of humanity does make him somewhat sympathetic to the reader.

All in all, a great unique read.

The story's actually great. I can't believe some people gave it 1-2 star ratings. The MC's pretty shameless when dealing with other people and it's really funny. It's got action and humor set in a post-apocalyptic modern world. It's pretty entertaining to read, not like those other novels of the same genre with a ruthless male lead being all serious about stuff, having a sworn enemy, seeking revenge, or just mindlessly killing scumbags in each chapter. I had enough of those. This novel even gave out some comedy gold material... more>> like making one of the characters think that the MC was gay and was going to xoxo him since he was a good looking kid and was given free expensive stuff.

Jaemin woke up with a burning thirst in his throat.
“Ooh-ook.”
He looked around his surrounding with a dizzy head. He was on his bed.
Bits of his memories started to piece itself together, and his memories slowly came back to him.
He had waited a long time for Woojin, who had gone out to buy more alcohol. He started taking sips from his soju cup, and he had fallen asleep on the table...
So, why was he in his bed?
“Huk!”
He still had his shirt on. Jaemin hurriedly peeked underneath his blanket. He still had his pants on. He unnecessarily started touching his butt, but he didn’t feel any pain.
“Whew.”

This novel had a very strong start, but unfortunately it became plagued by the same problems that many series on NU do, the characters feel like they've lost their depth, the world seems to bend over backwards to make the MC seem great and even the parts that were really good such as his nigh-psychopathy and the worldbuilding have fallen flat on their faces. I'm especially disappointed with how the author chose to limit the MC, he was overpowered as all hell so his power was made essentially useless against... more>> the people he actually wants to take down (anything more would be a spoiler). The way this was down, however, felt extremely forced in out of nowhere.

That's not to say it's terrible, it's still better than the majority of the stuff on NU, but that (obviously, my opinion) it shouldn't be this highly rated. <<less
