Laviore Bailey—the ‘fake saintess’ who banished the innocent princess and stirred up bad blood to wage war.

She’s the villainess with a façade of a saintess.

“I love you. So just shut your mouth and die. Okay?”

But the moment her trusted lover chose her as a sacrifice to the demon, and she realized her father was behind the plan, she killed herself by swallowing poison.

It hurt. It was so painful that she could not even scream. But it was fine. Because she knew this was not the end.

“I will save you this time.”

Then, she came back for her second life. She was determined to rescue those who were unlucky because of her and restored her life back.

“You do whatever you want for the man in your dream.”

Demian said with a rough smile.

“I’ll also protect you the way I want to.”

I read through all the original korean novel, and wow the story is an adventure. The protagonist is strong willed, and has thick skin. She has the heart to love but at the same time merciless. She is hilariously funny with wit. My favorite part was that she is a smart and brave female lead! Reading through the story was so refreshing and I didn't feel the time passing.

The story setting is in a fantasy world, and usually authors make use of elves/demons/dwarfs/etc to differentiate the ppl of different land.... more>> I liked how in this story, they took it a step further to wrap the plot around culture aspect of all the different race/people. The ideas could only be found in a fantasy book, but it made the people feel more real and relatable.

It was very interesting how the romance in this story evolved. Usually, people want to read about how a love line would end. In this case, I was more curious about the process of how everything became to be. Kind of like reading a mystery book, but it's romance.

The ending was satisfying, but it did feel a tiny bit rushed. The author could have added another volume or three. Which made me really sad. But I don't regret purchasing the books at all.

I highly recommend the story! <<less

I don't know why the rating of this IS NOT 4.7 or higher because in my eyes, this story is worth it!

First off, this story actually passes the Bentchel test! You know, in which women can converse in different topics of which men aren't included!

Then... Let me ask:

... more>> Are you tiring of dense heroines who never get the ML's hints? Or are you tired of reluctant FLs who are forced into a romance? Are you tired of FLs who are passive and not proactive?

Are you tired of face slapping, one dimensional villains and antagonists?

Boy, I have got this story for you! This subverts every overused overdone cliche Korean trope you know and throws it out the f*cking window! <<less

I forgot to review this! There is only one other review, this is an injustice to the amazing novel! There are no issues in the translation's grammar or word structure, it is easy to read. The novel flows well and is easy to follow along.

Laviore Bailey, aka Lara, aka our MC. Lara was used by her father to become the perfect crown princess, she was an accomplice to the crown prince and ruined many lives for him, lastly, she was betrayed by the crown prince that wanted Lara to sacrifice... more>> herself. Before she became a sacrifice she swallowed poison in front of an audience and died.

Lara, ✨went back in time✨, and decided to leave her worthless father, avoid the crown prince, advise her mother to get a divorce, she dropped her "saint" image, bought a handsome arena s*ave, decided to do everything she wanted, and help the people she ruined in her past life.

There is a hilarious comedic undertone between our couple, our ML (Demian the handsome arena s*ave) is actually not a s*ave (hehe spoiler). Do not think you'll be fed the "master-s*ave" scene, Lara only bought him to release him. Their interactions are what keeps this novel afloat! Of course, the surrounding story isn't bad, but I'm here for the couple XD.

PLUS. Demian (ML), has an overflowing amount of male pheromones, s*xual tension, an erot*c being that's crime is being alive, he is the embodiment of masculinity. Let me say this again, Demian will steal your heart, soul, and you'll be trapped in this novel just to get more of the character.

Korean novel readers, Demian is your reliable strong Oppa.

Wuxia novel readers, Demian is your handsome Eldest Senior Disciple.

Chinese novel readers, Demian is your blackened Ceo.

Ah, and just for clarification, Demian is interested in Lara first. Lara choose to help him because he is one of the people she trampled for the crown prince, but it was not 'interest' but a feeling of responsibility to help him from the guilt of manipulating him for the crown prince.

Spoiler

Remember how I said our ML (handsome arena s*ave) is actually not a s*ave? He is........

Dun Dun Dun Dun Duuuuuuuuuuuuuun

A spy for the crown prince of the neighboring empire, who is on a secret mission to investigate the involvement of black sorcerers in Lara's kingdom.

Which is sweet!

4.895/5 You can't possibly give this below 4 stars... It'd be a sin.
Such a rare fun-hot couple! I really love how straightforward this novel is. No unnecessarily prolonged drama for the sake of drama, no dogshıt storyline that you don't need to care about. This novel is fine and just! The FL did not get smarter after her death and does s*upid moves still. She's the same Lara from her previous life and she's just trying to make it better REALISTICALLY and she. is. learning. I also adore all the side characters. They have such good chemistry with the main characters and with the story.
The translation was GODLY! It feels like you're reading a book in its original language. It's almost poetic! It's obviously the best one I've read! -- I'd like to hug and tip the translator but I couldn't find a place to do that :<--
The 2nd quarter gets a little slow but it felt like the story needed that slowness. As I said, there is no bullshıtery.

The chapter commentary:

Spoiler

#10-OMFG this is going so well, I wish that it won't be a letdown!
#13-LETS GOOO! I want the father hanged!
#14-I'm so glad that father lost his cool and now mommy is divorcing him. AH the satisfaction!
#15-The mommy is so cööl damnnn...
#17-Hmm, Konny doing a good job.
#18-Good to see her fail on the first try. It's more realistic. The story getting better and better.
#19-Questions in my head? Why would he throw himself in jail? --Yeah who are you man? How dare you?!
#20-Dvonn has some hard balls! Good for her! OMG the girls saved her. This story is 10/10 by now.-- Eunice and Ximena...I'm in awe.
#21-I just really adore all the characters. --World would be burning and Damien can't be bothered about it.
#23-OOhh the father is gonna regret not accepting the divorce...
#24-I really enjoy that she did not get smarter and do s*upid moves still. She's the same Lara and she's just trying to make it better in this life.
#26-Feeling like this is going to be the best revenge story ever.
#34-Oh he did the condition thingy from his past life. That's nice to see. --I love how Damien knows what to see as important and knows to humor other side.
#35-A-oh Lara thinks this is near the end of her gross father.--Haha see??
#36-Damnnn, what is she planning? Dying at that point? That doesn't make much sense.
#37-Oh it wasn't much of a wound then? That's nice.
#41-Does the healing workes if she does the damage by herself?
#50-Aww it's so sweet that Konny thinks about Valentine!
#52-Girl don't give your mother tips. She's using her brain every day.
#57-What a harsh god...
#59-"Sidhar is planning to kill Sonnet." I thought Lara already knew that. She's didn't worked her brain much huh.
#65-sdhakd Konny's description of Lara anytime she asks kills me. -- I think Eunice and Ximena are joining to watch the fake saintess burnnn.
#73-Finally! Confession chapter!
#77-Obsessed with the saintess? Oh boy you're gonna be big sad.
#83-The demons is silly, the crown prince is silly... I really like them.
#86-"Your saintess" has already gotten good boy Acerus.
#89-I... Really! Like this novel... SO MUCH! You go girl. You tell those dumbfucs.
#91-Awww, they are all just so adorable.
#92-I just love how Lara bullies the racist.
#95-Domino and hotel life asdjkasd.
#96-The big racists makes me feel pure anger. Go burn them girl!
#97-Give their damn choco back you damn little racist fucsé.
#110-Lets goooo! God of Daddy finally did some good.
#115-I've just noticed that I'm not even here for that hot romance anymore, I'm here for the bloody revenge.
#120-Alright! Time to ship Valac and Acerus :3 I know Valac is a cunning mosquito but I love the idea of him just ending up helping our little saintess group.

Unpredictable and a wild ride, this story never gets old. In this story you'll never get that feeling where you don't care to turn the page, since you know exactly what happens next anyways. That doesn't happen. It subverts expectations and throws away the cookie cutter storyline every other villainess story ever uses and never looks back. There are scenes in this that hit HARD.

In a genre defined by being generic and blurring together, The Guidebook for Villainesses dares to be something truly memorable.

I read a metric ton of these... more>> stories. Tbh I'm a crappy NEET that does nothing else all day, so I've read them all. I've been bored to tears lately, they're all so samey. But this book? Holy crap, I'm not bored. This is really the good stuff, read it. <<less

I'm sad I waited so long to read this. I finally sat down and binged it, and it instantly shot up into my favorite translated novels out of all the ones I've read.

The novel takes the time to introduce the setting, the characters, and the political situation. The main character is very cunning but isn't perfect--she doesn't magically know how people will react to her actions. The male lead is very strong but can sometimes be limited by his lack of political connections. The two of them have a really... more>> nice chemistry and a really poignant history.

One of my favorite things is the important female side characters! This FL actually gets female friends!!! They make me laugh whenever they appear. And I'm really happy to see a novel explore a main character's relationship with their mother. Too many tr*sh fathers and dead or just forgettable moms, you know?

So far I haven't been frustrated with any cases of characters suddenly acting blindingly s*upid. The plot is fairly complex and keeps you guessing. The translation quality is really great, too. If you find yourself wishing that a novel's plot and characters were a bit more complex, this is for you. <<less

The MC and the ML have a lot of chemistry together but the story was too generic for me to keep reading. Every single conflict that happens is solved within 3 chapters, and the side characters felt kind of flat to me. The story is pretty slow paced, and has a lot of scenes where the characters are just talking. The revenge plot was interesting, but

Spoiler

I got bored after they revealed that the MC was the saintess. I know they were about to head off to the empire after that, but I felt the story was moving too slow for me to read to that point.

You can pretty much tell what's going to happen next and the story is pretty predictable. If you care more about romance than plot, I recommend this book. I'm dropping it because it got boring for me though. <<less

I'm abandoning the novel at c20, since I personally couldn't enjoy the crassness of most of the situations. I can see where other people found depth in the novel and characters, but IMO the story was just too depressing for me to read.

In the novel's world, it's considered commonplace for parents to break their children's limbs when they misbehave, let alone beatings, starvation, and verbal harassment. There are also daily s*x parties for nobles, for some reason, where apparently whole flocks of nobles go every day for drugs, alcohol, and... more>> prostitution. There are also normalized s*avery and s*ave fighting rings, where noble ladies enjoy dressing up and stepping on poor s*aves. Noble attendants can just abduct people off the street into their carriage, kicking and screaming, and no one will do anything to help them. The world this novel has set up is just plain horrible and depressing, and putting the MC - a vaguely realistic but generally timid and innocent girl - as the main character makes the story just really sad to read. I can't even comment much on the authors talent for writing, but just reading more and more stories of parents breaking their children's limbs or starving them or about killing s*aves on a whim or about selling poor people into prostitution just gets my mood down. <<less

What are people saying... The writing is good? Lmao. Have you guys never read good writing? Ok I'm still giving it a chance but the writing is barely doing the least. Telling v. Showing. It is telling hardcore right now like a juvenile shoujo storybook but ok. I'm still gonna give it a chance.

It's not the worst thing I've read, but this writing is a bit juvenile and jarring for me. I don't know whose pot it is: the trans (thanks btw either way) or the author. The sh*t they... more>> say it's like.... ? What. No lead up for it, just spewing words. For example:

"Perfectly adorned with black shoes and a black necklace, Lara stood in front of the mirror and asked Konny.

"What do you think?"

"You look like a puppet for the Demon Lord.""

What the literal f*ck. First, where did that idea come from. At most I think people would just say you look like a demon. The specifics that this maid is saying to her master of puppet to the demon lord is jarring af. I mean I know the MC acknowledges it was nonsensical but then why is that just konnys character: cringe?

And imo there's no lead up for anything other than lackluster exposition aka much telling. I think the most "showing" it does is when the leads are intimate with each other. Other than that, I'm barely making it by without cringing at some lines.

Anyways, it's not terrible. Just very obvious writing imo. No subtilty so far with the writing. <<less

Absolutely refreshing!!! Im getting tired with revenge plot in a lot of titles now but this one is handling it nicely! Its not purposely dragged out nor it was frustrating. While I would say the plot developments feels too convenient sometimes, as in having a lot of "coincidences" which may or may not grate your nerve, its a crazy good, wickedly fun read nonetheless!

Almost single character here is likeable. The FL is not op borderline mary sue-ish, or naive either! Bottom line is, Its great!!!!!!!!

Strongly recommended.

This novels takes the usual elements used in bad novels to make the story "more interesting" (or more like longer & more complicated) like repetitive misunderstandings and crazy oblivious characters and just dump it into the tr*sh while developing a truly interesting plot that actually makes sense !!

If I were to explain why this novel is so awesome, I'd end up writing a review so long nobody would read it so I'll just say :

  • the plot makes sense and is deeper/more interesting that what it seems at first,
  • characters are 3D, not just de main ones but even the friends are fleshed out and have their own little story
  • MC is strong, not to OP, just perfect to be human and inspiring,
  • there's no unhealthy imbalance in the main couple, no toxic jealousy or manipulation,
  • no typical "other women are only there to be crazy jealous b*sh" & instead true good female friendships !
Seriously, go for it, it's too good to miss.

It is fine, like a 3.5/5

You have a somewhat pro-active FL straight forward person. Cunning she isn't. "I don't want to marry the prince so I will ruin my reputation and renounce my peerage" is certainly a plan, but it isn't a great plan. She sacrifices a lot for little damage to the bad guys. It is a bit fun to see her try to act outrageously.

The ML lead is a bit weird and still mostly mysterious and he is also ridiculously overpowered. All her problems could be solved by... more>> the fifth chapter if she told the ML "assassinate X and Y". It would have worked, he wouldn't have been caught. The ML himself even suggested doing just that.

If you like the genre, it is pretty fun. Translation is decent. <<less

Trust me u won't regret reading this. FL is crazy but badass kinda crazy. she isn't afraid to slap or pull out someone's hair. ML is crazy but for the FL. he always tells FL, he loves her so much that " he can save or destroy the world for her" & the mother of the FL is the definition of the GIRLBOSS SHIT.

its a pretty nice story tbh... but it just got boring for me as it progressed. its not supposed to be a revenge kind of story, but a story where she corrects all of her mistakes. although the pacing is kinda slow, i've dealt with worse so I can handle it. ... more>>
Spoiler

but what made me even bored is that she'll become the saintess. I atleast want her to become an "evil" kind of saintess, cuz whats the use of the title if she doesnt have even an ounce of evilness in her? (all those "evil" things she did were all either an act, or she did it to save someone. thats not evil) and the dramas became boring. there isnt really that much chaos that I want, but I think there will be chaos coming soon since there's demons and I hope there would be some kind of fight. but, lara would most probably use her saintess powers to save everyone...

anyway, this novel kind of reminded me of the manhwa "Sica Wolf". not the plot, but the pacing, the flow of the stories, and how the drama is too boring for me. I wouldnt even be shocked if they have the same author <<less

If you're tired of being a good girl then this novel loosens up your bad senses.

The story lines were well don't have much drama, yes they're seconds that I want to discontinue reading it yet so alluring that I ended up at the certain chap.

I liked the relationship of MCs 'cause aside from they are both hilariously "evil", they're lovely.

With the help of SCs, I admired the FL character growth. The ML, common main ML yet he's imperfect. And what makes him unique hmm I guess he's way too... more>> charming despite his story.

I enjoyed well the friendship of bishes. And I want to be Lara's sister 🤑. <<less

It's actually worth reading. The MC is cunning and smart and she has plans. It's different cause she is not trying to appeal to anyone and the novel shows us the bad parts of high society. However they are also unexpectedly human. Don't judge the book by its cover might be the best description of this novel. While the MC becomes bad and hangs with the bad crowd she discovers the truth by everyone's façade. Be it the goody two shoes or the villans façade. It's worth the read!

Pretty standard OI summary so far, but here's a few reasons why I find it to be such an enjoyable read:

Flawed MC: Although Laura returns to the past, she still has many flaws that she has to learn from and overcome. While she does change overnight in the eyes of others, it is all a bit childishly planned out and restricted by what she actually can do with her small influence. She isn't OP, but she does gain some really important friends and allies that help her along the way.

Spoiler

Female Friends: She gains two "villainess" best friends in this lifetime, who are as humorous as they are endearing. Guess what passes the bechdel test? This novel does.
Cute CP Dynamic: I guess this one is a given, but they're honestly really cute. Whenever things get steamy, it is ML who steps back out of consideration while FL mischievously pounces forward.
ML POV: I love his POV chapters, they're honestly so poetic. You get a sense of his thoughts, motivations, and frustrations. I found one chapter to be especially poignant, and want to leave this pretty quote here:
"A crying woman was against the law. But all the laws in the world were useless to this woman’s tears."

[collapse]
Beautifully Written: Did I mention it was beautifully written? Because it's really beautifully written.
I could really continue to gush on and on about this little novel but I hope that was enough of a peak to tempt some of you to give it a read!

Spoiler

it's boring af

[collapse]
I'd rate it at most a 2.5 but can't bring myself to give it 3.

now, this is one of those stories where you'll wonder, "were the original characters kicked out of their roles by some 14yr old transmigrators?"

No joke.

the story has a good plot. But the characters, (and I'm feminist as I say this) essentially the female characters, just have a way of ruining everything.

it's like the male character were great, but they met the 3 of the five female characters and just lost their amazingness.

Spoiler

the demons were turned into teddy bears. The power boosts became low quality props. The gods were just s*upid and well, died.

[collapse]

If you want to read a relatively better story in this very setting, I recommend "MOMMY VILLAINESS" well the title is crappy and the romance is a bit cringey but when you get over that, the overall world build up and the characters are so amazing. And the author executes it perfectly.

but for this novel! Lord! If any villainess used this as a guidebook and didn't have a god that was insanely in love with their face to back them up, they would fail completely.

see, Lara isn't a villainess, she's probably the a female lead from a low rated novel that managed to use her halo to steal the role of the actual villainess.

she doesn't create or react to situations in a way that would title her villainess, she just goes along with the plot- defends the weak and is ostracized, like every other weak fl, for the things she did. *Eye roll*

the male other characters have so much potential, and nearly exhibit it. But they become much less when Lara is involved with them.

Isadora, Lara's money bag mother, and Konny are the only sensible-ish female characters.

the other two "friends" are literally one dimensional and nearly annoying.

When I started this book, I was exceedingly bored. I just kept going. Until they had their first kiss and I thought things had picked up but once

Spoiler

prince Acerus (or whatever his name is) had a romance line with Eunice (I think that's her name) I just gave up on the book.

im the kind of person that obeys that law of not letting the truth get in the way of a good story, but that only works if the story is actually good.

im not one to despise people for their decisions and may be it was just the way the romance of the book was placed so I ended up having no favorite character or something.

First, prince aserisc (whatever his name was) could have become my favorite character for this book.

Then, he is a crown prince of an empire. But apparently with this story, power matters more in a small kingdom than it would to an entire empire.

so the prince doesn't care for his reputation among the people and is constantly throwing tantrums.

not only that. He sleeps with a random girl (Eunice) who despite her time setting, is a noble who likes open relationships.

the prince doesn't realize that he needs to strengthen his hold on the throne because even if he is the only child, he does have relatives. So he apparently can't live without Eunice after they sleep with each other a couple of times.

and guess what?

Eunice, who apparently loathes commitment, is so concerned with the prince and shows all kinds of caring sides.

[collapse]

And this has me thinking

Spoiler

•so her guy is so OP that he can easily defeat demons that are ranked in top five in the demon realm but he can't capture 2 black sorcerers?
•so every demon that they encountered suddenly forgot that they are demons and were easily fooled by her?

• so these demons forgot how to be cunning and heartless? They forgot that they can use anything to their advantage as long as it results in their selfish gains?

•so they were so eager to kiss her feet just because she walks around with a candle?

and after all that doesn't make sense, we can't have a break? We can't have one sensible thing?

• the prince asceric (whatever the name is) goes to war with a powerful half demon and no one thinks! "Hey! Why not take someone that will assure your victory? Besides, there's nothing he is doing by Lara's side. Plus, not only has this man defeated the demon before, he actually has control over it! Yes, you may want to kill it yourself your highness, but in case the demon pulls out a nasty trick, let this guy have your back."

nope. The prince went alone and nearly lost his life despite being close friends with someone that can easily destroy the demon. In fact, 2000 barbarians were called for the purpose of destroying the demon in the north and teach the empire's citizens a lesson by leaving them to face off the monsters but we can forget that entire plot point.

and then vallac attaches himself to the prince and their lives become connected.

[collapse]

see, the book os filled with conflicts that the main characters cause because they ignore the situations that cause them.

Spoiler

Back to the point of Eunice. She comes form a small noble family with no influence in the greater empire. Not only that, her relationship with the apparent play boy prince is purely s*xual but he is completely smitten.

so why wasn't he completely smitten with all the other women he slept with?

it was only a one night stand and they had no special relationship between them!! Just no! No! At least if there had been something between them.

not only that- and I'm not saying women like this don't deserve the world, they do. I'm just saying that looking at the time period the story was set in, Eunice's character was akin to that of a prostitute (which is an okay occupation) and I didn't judge her for it but looking everything, it was impossible for any facts to allow her to be the future empress. She lacked all kinds of skill and values associated with empresses.

but I could ignore all that if the prince and Eunice at least had like, some chemistry.

[collapse]

but whatever. I stopped reading and just scrolled through to see what the book was about.

THIS IS WHAT THE BOOK IS ABOUT!!!!

Spoiler

so this god comes down to earth to visit and decides to create a saintess for the people. He gives the saintess everything, falls madly in love with her and forgets about the rest of the world.

so the law of the world gets mad. The other gods call him back to heaven and as he ascends, they get the demon lord to kill the saintess (at least that's what I understood from how confusing everything was).

The god gets very mad that he extracts a part of himself and twists fate.

that small part of him is destined to become a demon god then he turns the one that is meant to be a demon god into a saintess. So it turns into the god killing the demon god and the fate keeps repeating itself.
until the world law realizes how much of a lunatic the god was a creates a saintess who looks like his first love. And because of this, the god turns back time after the girl ruins her life.
the conflict is these people love each other but they are fated to kill each other.
long story short, the saintess discovers that she's actually meant to be the demon lord and her guy whom she thought was the demon lord was actually part of a god.
so what these two lunatics do is to kill the main god so that they don't have to die and can live living each other. And they also kill thousands of people over a matter that could easily be solved by gathering all hell's elements and using the gods power to allow everyone to descend and closing the hell gates. But okay.
as you can see, the plot is pretty good. But the execution and the characters- lord!!!
[collapse]

i recommend it if you want to see a good kiss. Around chapter 50. If you're looking for chemistry or sense, just look else where.
