I started reading this novel yesterday but I had to stop because I can't find it in me to finish it,

Honestly I enjoyed the story quite a lot at first, I liked the simplicity and the flow of events, then the first arc ends and the plot takes a 180 degree turn everything is not what it seems to be and things go from bad to worse. Here are the complaints I got about the events:

The way MC just gets along with the ML after he literally blows his organes twice baffles me, oh let alone how MC saves his stalker who literally is the one to trigger the game then has the audacity to repay him by granting him the key which obviously only gets the MC in more danger ???but oh well he's not the slightest mad of course.

I hate how the ML tricks the MC into fusing which he is yet indifferent about of course (and yes Im very aware it helped him to rise his skills) when it would have been easier to keep a low profile to contact the older brother without much obstacles and get it done with instead of putting his life at risk, but noo he just let it happen without the least drop of anger.

I'm very aware this is necessary for the plot to develop or whatever but still I can't help but feel annoyed about it, other than that, the first arc is quite promising and keeps you on going.

And yes my complaints are all over the place and I might be making a big deal of it, despite all this, the instances were entertaining enough to keep up yet after reading the spoilers I doubt I'll finish the novel regardless. <<less

Hey, it's the translator here. This is a rare horror-themed story with a Top as the protagonist. The characterisation is really good and deep here; we get to see clear character growth and interactions from meaningful, or even impactful plot development. Do be warned, that while this isn't a scary novel, per se, it is definitely one to make you depressed near its latter half. If you've read I Ran Away After I Was Forced into a Love Polygon, the feeling may not be too unfamiliar, given that they're by... more>> the same author, no less. Don't let that misguide you into thinking it's a BE, though, as the story is definitely an HE, or at least, it's a neutral, pyrrhic victory kind of HE.

As for other aspects, side characters in this novel are also fleshed out to a certain degree, especially one certain male character related to Du Yixin. The worldbuilding is interesting, and not all of the settings offered are clichés. The story is competent enough and there are not too many or immersion-breaking plot holes, I think.

I was thrilled when I read this through for the first time, and even while rereading it, so I hope you'll enjoy it too!

Edit: If you're worried about the seme tag, don't be. Neither leads are exactly the definition of manly, and personally, I think it is all interchangeable if you ignore the extra chapter. <<less

I continued for Ying Sheng but seriously the MC is too slow (the story tries to make him look smart by making him ask a loooooot of questions, it's a miracle he's alive). Translator is great though. You should check their website.

If you think this is gonna be cheerfully happy and fluffy all year round... Oh boy. It's a very sombre mood that only gets progressively tragic throughout the story, slow burn so they do end up getting together near the climax. But this completely broke my heart the moment

I honestly got lured in by how happy go lucky the title sounds and while I enjoy the couple alot, I definitely didn't get my happy 'oh we're dating and this is full of fluff' moment, instead I walked out in a daze of 'oh wow Im having emotions about how much I love and miss his brother'

So that's just the general warning, don't be fooled by how happy it sounds. It's a survival game that really focused more on the depressing side of losing people you love/the trauma of indiscrimnate slaughter. Still, 5* because I truly enjoy the kind of shou the ML is. <<less

This is one of my most favorite seme POV. Actually, my favorite ML is wolf-baddass-tsundere guy.. So it's one of my cup of tea.

But honestly, compared to other MC seme, this MC is quite hopeless (i am even quite disapppointed of his characters). I think the highlight of this novel is the ML, the ML's outstanding character himself that makes this novel run interesting..

If isnt because the author itsself personally told us that this story has CP and the genre is Yaoi, I almost believe that this story tells us about the journey of a guy to became a man without any pairing/partner of romance. If isnt because Ying Sheng has been offically declared as Bottom, I almost believe Ying Sheng is one of many people that are fond and have one sided love towards MC, same as A-Le (?) in the first arc.
I dont know if the author did it on purpose, the way it described mc's mind and feeling by the mc's words and actions towards Ying Sheng is not compatible. It gives me vibe that mc's view to Ying Sheng is like a bro, death-life peer... Even, mc's sadness and worry to the children and the student that Ying Sheng killed before is more descriptive and touching than towards Ying Sheng who didn't mind to die as a shield for MC...

I just finished reading this novel in chinese, and no offense but the only character who grow up and change is Ying Sheng (ML, shou) only.

andddd that’s happen in 110+ chapters, lol. Basically the whole 1 - 100 MC character do not change much, especially in the mentality and perspective. Okay, he DID change physically tho.

The romance is pitiful honestly, but it’s not bad because this novel focused on the action and dungeon, rather than to the slice of life problems like love. I don’t really mind if this gonna be bromance only AHAHA since the romance do not matter that much.

I am saying this because this MC, Du Yixing is really confusing. The way author describing his non verbal communication when he interact with ML is reallyyy weird. Mostly, it doesn’t congruent with his verbatim.

For example, the MC said something like concern, and voluntarily use his ability to turn back in time to rescue ML all over again. He also verbally expressing that he is worried and even beg ML to stop dying. But, his gesture and movement convey that he do not care at all. Just A LITTLE worried.

Or maybe it’s just my illusion? I do not know.

oh oh oh, i've been wanting to read novel with this kind of setting this fast few days but the horror novels out there if not for the slow update (not blaming them) or i've already finished reading it╥﹏╥. And I don't really like seme protag but I like this kind of story so I'll just stick with it and maybe the protag will not be too manly and the ML will not be coquettish tehee (sorryyy) . Btw, good luck in translating this translator-san have a good health and thank you.

I didn't expect to like Ying Sheng quite as much as I did. However, he really captured my imagination and became so real. I also loved the older brother, and Yixin at the beginning. In fact, many of the characters were really well developed. What was most heart rendering was watching characters dying, Game of Thrones style.

The instances were nice, but I prefer ones with more of a plot. Instead, the instances in this novel are meant more to drive the larger, overarching plot. The author makes this work though,... more>> so this is just a minor gripe.

The one thing I didn't like was the ending. The wrap up was there, but like the translator mentioned, that's about all you can say for it. It wasn't super satisfying or logical. That said, the translator was awesome. Some might find the translation notes invasive, but I thought they were on point. <<less

(post note: I wrote this right after finishing the novel and the experience still fresh in my mind. My review was/is definitely biased based on my emotional state. Compared to the flaws I listed, there are plenty of positive points that I just felt too emotionally drained to list.)

Oh. My. God. I am gonna be as straightforward as possible and I might accidentally spoil a bit, caution ahead.
It's always the happy-go-lucky synopsis's that have a tragic undertone. It's a bit cute and comedic in the beginning, and as you read on that's what you think it'll be like. But my god, the latter part of the story absolutely tore my poor delicate heart apart! Thankfully, the translator's notes were there to bring me back to earth. At first you might find them a bit brash and think they ruin the mood at times, but Lordy the only thing keeping me sane and not cry buckets of tears were how calm and detached those damned notes were.

now, I'm gonna get into some more spoilery parts:

DONT GET ATTACHED TO GE! I f*ckING LOVED THAT DA GE ONLY FOR HIM TO f*ckING RIP MY HEART INTO PIECES! If it weren't for the translators aloof notes I probably would've had a f*cking emotional breakdown. I get attached to plenty of characters, I'm a fluffer. But I f*cking loved this da ge. I always had a bit of hopeful thinking, "ge... is so important to Xiao-Xin, he can't possibly die?" But SCREW YOUR ANCESTORS YOU DAMN AUTHOR! And there's barely any healing after that huge emotional tr*sh dump! Like, the end of the huge battle arrives, we find out the truth, and then? "Oh here's a couple chapters about everyone afterward, and as a bonus, a quick pg papapa~ Hehe~" ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ABOUT THEM HEALING AFTER LITERALLY GOING THROUGH A DEATH MATCH, THEY'RE ALL JUST SOMEHOW STILL SANE AND FINE!

tbh, I really liked this novel. The CP was cute and I loved the mutual character development. The side characters were likable enough. The plot was interesting. The instances had you curious. But my f*cking god does the latter part ruthlessly rip apart your heart.

This review's pretty late but let's go😅😆 I finished reading this in MTL a long time ago since I couldn't wait but I forgot to write a review😭

Anyway, I'm a sucker for uncommon dynamics cuz I've been traumatized too much by the most common dynamics in both straight and gay novels= dominant, powerful, capable, physically better (basically all that sh*t) Male/Top X fragile, beautiful, dependent, damsel-in-distress (and more) Female/Bottom and I need to wash my eyes with capable Females/Bottoms for a long while before my injuries heal🥲

First of all I... more>> love the dynamics here! We got here an MC who was once just a typical teenager, dumb and youthful, and an ML who is a tsundere and an aggressive psychopath. The novel starts off with the MC getting s**ked into an instance, and meeting ML, who then showcases his strength.

ML in the beginning is more strong, powerful, physically better than MC and I'm living for it😭 Also, might I add, the author really did this part good because, in some other works, if the Shou is like this, aggressive and more powerful, they're more than likely going to overshadow the Gong. But surprisingly, the ML easily blushes once they've interacted more! And the MC also grows strong and will stand at equal footing with ML in terms of strength after a while in the novel! Equality! Finally!

As for MC, another reader has stated that he is dumb, and I also agree. The story really does want him to come off as smart, but it didn't work, it's really impossible how he got through all of that alive. Also, his reactions are very inconsistent, and he's really just like a typical teenager, dumb, and really indecisive, but somehow still saves his own ass.🥲 Like, that time he wanted to go back in time to try to save people, even hurting himself in the process and being very persistent, but just a little convincing from ML and MC's brother and then he refrained from killing himself. He's very indecisive. He's all talk and no action, sometimes he really gives off coward vibes, but then some time next he's confident? He really seems just like a typical teenager but with superpowers🤔

The concepts and ideas, some I've seen, some I haven't. The plot's good, but not a masterpiece. The biggest villain's ability was a good one and I love MC's brother. The plotholes are majorly connected to the keys and honestly, after careful consideration, the end could've been different if the plotholes were fixed and turned more logical. The romance is lacking and I didn't expect much cause of the world setting (I mean who would feel attraction while your death could happen anytime?) and the MC and ML have many flaws. For me, aside from MC, ML, MC's brother and the biggest villain, other characters can't really stir my mind. There's also not that many characters that are mentioned. Basically, I don't remember anyone else's name😂

The only worth noting character development here is ML, and it's already not so good, since ML is a serial killer who grew up in an environment that didn't make him take life seriously, went through numerous instances where staying alive isn't certain, then suddenly being civil and cooperating instead of threatening MC, like he hadn't killed people without batting an eyelash, and then already sacrificing himself for MC without even surviving five more instances with him. It could've been better if he never killed after his first appearance in the novel and easing down his aggressiveness and other things to really make it seem like he was just a guy who had a horrible childhood, got his world views distorted cause of the instances, and took life casually and not really willing to kill if he had a choice, but he instead acts like the opposite, therefore making it unconvincing that he would sacrifice himself for a s*upid guy that could somehow make his heart beat faster. He had to kill for MC's character development and for something to develop their relationship I guess.

Uh, I'm not writing reviews/rants again🥱 so tiring🤟🥲

Once again, love the dynamics, and the translation is so good! Kudos to the translator, thank you for picking this up, keep up the good work😁❤️

I started reading this and couldn't wait for the translations so I finished it in MTL.

The entire pacing of the story is great and the characterization of the MC and ML's relationship is done really well. It balances perfectly between sweet, but also realistic (as in the two of them don't just inexplicably fall in love with each other from the get go and everything is fine and dandy.) Contradictions between the two do come up because of their different experiences and mindsets. The MC and ML also aren't your... more>> typical tropey shou/gong, which was a nice surprise, and their character development arcs were really interesting to read. I don't think the novel is totally focused on romance though, it just supports the plot and adds a lot more to the interactions and situations.

I think the premise of the story is interesting and the ending explanation is decent.

Although gosh darn it author given the ending and atmosphere of the novel, I get why you killed off Du Heng but SERIOUSLY YOU"RE MAKING ME CRY I REALLY LIKED HIM??? ALSO THE WAY YOU KILLED HIM OFF LIKE GEE JUST BREAK MY AND DU YIXIN's HEART WHY DON"T YOU.

The author focuses on a few main characters, and all the other characters kind of just, show up, disappear, or die in one arc, which, given the length of the novel I'm totally fine with.

Though I was kind of disappointed that Lou Jing was an unfired Chekhov's Gun. There wasn't ever any consequences for Du Heng or Du Yixin after Du Heng took his key and kicked him out of the organization, even though the author made it sound ominous and foreshadowy that Lou Jing now hates Du Yixin even more because of this. He just vanishes after he gets kicked out.

If you're someone who likes the horror/escape room/instance type novel, you should definitely give this a try! I think the main couple is pretty unique and it's rare to find a Top MC. The ending is HE but it's definitely bitterswet. <<less

This Novel even has the Slowest Romance than Earth is Online or Global Examination. Without the BL tag in the genre, you won't even know the story would go to that route. I mean, sure, at the beginning we immediately introduced to 'gay character' (NOT MC/ML) who confess to MC, but if you forgetting him, the rest of the story before the last 2 arcs, were all Non-Romance.

Anyway, if you ignore your want for Romance, then the story is Pretty Good! Pretty Gore, but not scary. And Absolutely Emotional when MC finally forced to face the Harsh Reality. But MC is Pretty Good at staying true to his Heart even with everything he been through and his Character Growth without make him feel OOC or off. ML's Character Growth in Emotional state was also Pretty Good. If someone say ML's Emotional Growth was Off/OOC/Fast; UNTRUE!!! It was Well Developed and Realistic because the chemistry with MC's Characteristic that has Pretty Good Personalities!

The Novel is not Perfect though. Pretty Flawed. But it has Well Thought Plot and Good Ending. So read at your risk. Though yeah, I'm Loving it. <<less

Horror and mystery stuff is alright. Instances are interesting too.

Characters are interesting too except the boss and bigger boss in the story.

But from near the end of second-to-last instance, there are plot holes springing up like mushrooms in rain. It feels as if the author took a break and then came back to continue writing, causing her/him to forget some incidents which caused severe plot holes in the second-to-last instance.

Mengli was it..? She died in the instance and didn't turn into a key, even though she was a player with ability/key, which should have been used to upgrade MC. And cause the author left this plot hole, we get to see the dear big bro getting sacrificed so that the MC can upgrade both physically and mentally. If MC had gotten the key before, perhaps big bro wouldn't have to go and receive a lunch box.

There are also other players, with abilities, who died enmasse in that instance and their keys.. What about that?

And near the end we get to see a boy with the same power as big bro - nullification. Seriously shouldn't abilities be different to each person?

Moreover, the ending. It's rushed. Feels just for the sake of it and to give a sense of a grand truth.

Yes... u read it right... it’s both Comedy and Horror, and it’s actually funny.

I really don’t like the ML at this point. Some of his reactions are cute, but I can’t get over the fact that he killed the MC (not really a spoiler, happens in the first few chapters). Even if they gave a reason, it was pretty lame. If the MC was spared, then I could forgive it, but he wasn’t. The ML doesn’t really care about human life either. I’d be fine with that if the ML... more>> was similar, but he’s not. He’s a normal guy. At least the author doesn’t paint him as “the good guy” or something. <<less

I love that the dynamic between MC and ML is interesting - they seem like two fleshed out individuals and not, , top" and, , bottom". Also, I really liked the shou being the strong possessive and ferocious person and also not being described as, , fragile" all the time. Give me more manly shous who stay strong (:

The MC was also a very interesting and lovely character. I usually don't read seme protagonist, but he was different. You'll get it if you read it.

really wished that 1. The MC would have gone back in time in the entertainment instance to save the people the ML killed and 2. Wished that the MC wouldn't have become more powerful in the end. I enjoyed Ying Sheng's protectiveness and power throughout the novel and it just led me down a bit in the end.
