She’ll also cure him of his disorder so that the three personalities can live in harmony!

I initially enjoyed the book, but as time went on, I found it less enjoyable (I would have given it a 3-star review but there were one too many 5 stars). It's all written very lightheartedly and I was wondering how the MC, Lin Xiaoyue would help the ML, Yan Yang--but I didn't expect it to end up like that.

Spoiler

First, you have to know that although Lin Xiaoyue is from modern times, she's the typical self-righteous MCs that thinks that anything done in 'self-defense' isn't wrong. I really liked her in the beginning, however despite the fact that I understand that she was trying to make the ML stand up for himself, it that doesn't mean that she should condone his actions of harming others that way.

Spoiler

One other thing that made me grow to dislike her was her choice of action. In one part of the novel, the ML's cousin wanted to bed her, and instead of her telling him to 'f*ck off' or something in the manner, she decided to play along with him. In my mind, I was like 'nani tf? Do you know what could've happened???'. It wasn't that she was lightly playing along, she set up a time, she even negotiated a price for him to bed her and everything else.

The part I can't wrap my mind around is her s*upid and ignorant way to extract karma--she threw poop and pee water on him and kicked his face. I mean... wtf? I thought she would have done something else.

It didn't even do anything as that cannon fodder was going to come the next night and try again... Plus, her reputation would've been destroyed by her own hands if anyone else heard about it (the author uses this plot point as a way for the ML to sever his relationship with the novel's FML and ML and develop the ML's and MC's love, which I find unnecessary).

[collapse]

The part that triggers me the most is how she dealt with his DID (and how the author wrote it all lightheartedly to lessen the seriousness of it). Granted that she's not a medical professional and doesn't have any experience dealing with patients who have a mental illness, but the MC has ways to get her hands on resources to help her understand and know what to avoid.

-----But she doesn't do that.

After the first time, when she reads part of a textbook with the second personality, it's never brought up again.

Spoiler

Honestly, I feel bad for the first and second personalities as the MC only really liked the third personality and chose him over the other two. She would take him out the most, suppressing the other two personalities. In the end, the first personality, who was only present in 1/3 of the novel, literally disappeared and supposedly 'integrated' into the main personality.

The MC was very selfish in that aspect as she didn't care much about how the other personalities were feeling, albeit they expressed their like for her and how she understood them--she was literally the beacon of light for the first personality. She even wished that the third personality would be the main one despite knowing in the back of her mind that the second personality was the main one, and that they all shared their memories with one another. That was a dangerous and self-centered thing to do.

[collapse]

It was originally very entertaining watching her interact with the three personalities, but in the end, it's not the book for me. I think that if you can be super open-minded, you'll be fine reading this novel--although, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone because of the way some things were dealt inside of the book.

If you're looking to MTL it, it's fairly easy to read and understand, the incorrect grammar and mistranslation are not as pronounced.

I should give the author some slack--but I really can't. Their excuse that they don't really know anything about DID kinda sounds like they can write anything they want and play it off because they 'didn't know'. I mean there's really no excuse because information like this is easily accessible these days on the internet; it just takes a couple of clicks to get there even if you don't want it to be super correct.

i really liked it at the beginning, truly but then as she interacted more and more with the ML I kept getting upset. I can understand her and why she loves the 3rd personality and tbh I love him too but she treated the 2nd personality a bit too harsh for my liking, I mean she wasn't rude to him or anything like that but she knew that he was the main personality and that he obviously had all memories when she was with the 3rd but every time he... more>> came she'd be more distant towards him and never truly took the initiative... she always said he should talk to her but she never talked to him either, IMO never truly encouraged him to believe that she loves all of him... she insisted that they were one person yet never treated them as one-that is what upset me most. I don't blame her for loving the 3rd personality more-he really was the more likable one not to mention the book she had read was basically only him... but just thinking that she kissed hugged and even hoped to be more intimate with the 3rd but could not even take the initiative to hug or even give simple kisses to the second made me feel unsettled (plus she kept on going about how she wanted the main to be more courageous and accept the outside etc etc but never let him out chilled me). Mybe this improves in the future (i mean obviously he will be the master personality that remains plu sthere already are signs of such change) but my reverse-harem loving heart can not accept such treatment.

not to mention I'm in chapter 50 already and tbh she really doesn't do anything special at all-nor does she take advantage to up her own life with ML with her cheat. the only good thing she seemingly does is manage to split the family so they don't have to bear the mocking and harsh treatment of the other in-laws and she manages to convince everyone that the ML has now been healed and will only get better in the future.

its maybe a 2.5-3 stars for me. <<less

I have finished reading the novel in one go. Before anything else, I must say first that Yan Yang (ML) DOES NOT have schizophrenia. His mental illness is called Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) or Multiple Personality Disorder. He got three different personalities: childlike, depressed, and fierce. He is NOT a male yandere. I removed that tag. The ML is NOT a violent person and NEVER killed anyone. He only seriously injured or cheated money on those who bullied him and Lin Xiaoyue (FL). I have no problems with the ML... more>> because he (all three personalities) constantly improves himself for the FL. Lin Xiaoyue has a strong personality and knows how to fight back through words. She got the magical space that she can enter by sleeping. She treated the three Yan Yangs well and did her best to improve them. Expect many troubles from Yan Dayong's (father-in-law) family side or the Yan family. Prepare for their shameless personalities and money issues. Wang Xiuying (mother-in-law) and Lin Xiaoyue worked side by side to protect their family especially Yan Yang. As for the father-in-law, he is just so-so. He got his shortcomings. Overall, the story is great and different from other novels because of Yan Yang's unique situation. I got a bit disappointed in the end because of the lack of importance in education. Other than that, I recommend this novel <<less

2.5 stars

The premise of the story is good and it's unique for a chinese novel set in the 70s to have a character with dissociative identity disorder (DID). However, as I've read until chapter 33, I find myself being uncomfortable most of the times.

So far, all characters introduced aside from ML have something wrong with their personality. MC is selfish and has blatant favoritism. It does not help that she's not efficient at all. After 33 chapters she has not achieved much aside from giving ML a supply of apples... more>> and snacks. ML's parents are s*upid and used-to-be-evil-but-now-guilty characters. They make the situation worse and everything involving them is annoying to read. The relatives are ultimate tr*sh. The novel's female lead surnamed Bai is too self-righteous and has a knack for attracting men by being 'kind'. Basically, the only character left that you can accept here is the ML. It's ironic because it's him that is mentally ill, but he's the best out of this rotten bunch. <<less

this novel's implications are dark. and I don't even think the author means for it to be dark. like poor og xiaoyue. you deserved better girl.

so human trafficking is a thing. and is just thrown around casually. the FL don't even care? the og xiaoyue was done so dirty. she was considered a bad person. for what? not liking the fact that she was sold to be the ml's wife? author says it's bc the ML is a fool but like dude... she was BOUGHT like cattle. she's even constantly... more>> called cheap. disgusting.

haiz... the fl. the fl... for an educated woman, who claims to be smart... she's kind of dumb. she acts very childish. her lines that the author seems to want us to think are clever are kind of talk middle schools use.

but I guess it evens out with how antagonists act in this novel.

cnovels have a type. and it's family antagonists that are brainlessly evil for the sake of being evil. absolutely no depth to them. their thoughts and actions are just one dimensional. once you read one, you've read all of them.

even the ml's family are despicaple regardless of the fact that their kid is a "special case" (urg I hate this term in this context) why the f*ck did they even think of human trafficking?

sometimes these novels baffle me. and the way the mental illness was dealt was just so... no. just no.

my braincells have suffered reading this. <<less

I read the MTL version but I really, really love this story!

The MC is good and funny at the same time. I love how she interacts with all three personalities of her husbands, especially the third one who's a violent guy

I'd just rant mostly about the MC and ML

About the three personalities and why ML has them

Spoiler

This reminds me to Kill Me, Heal Me and Hyde Jekyll, Me K-dramas that I watched years before. ML was a normal growing boy until he was six years old. At that time, something happened. He was accused of stealing money, IIRC it was 10 yuan while the thief was his cousin who was older than him. Nothing could help him because the money was found on him. He was locked outside the house in winter.

Even after he begged that he wasn't the thief, no one believed him while his parents couldn't oppose the elders and the first and second branches of the family. The ML then was locked inside a wooden house as punishment, got a fever then somehow developed the personality that was stuck with an IQ of 6 years old

Then, when he was 9 years old, the Yan family forced his parents to sell him to a Wang family while trying to give birth to another child. ML's mother didn't know about it, he was already sold while she was busy with her work. As for ML's father, he was too stuck with filial piety that he listened to his shitty parents.

The ML suffered more in Wang family. He slept in a cowshed, was beaten and had to eat the chicken feed. He developed the third personality as a way to protect himself because the first personality was a child while the second personality was a depressed man. The second personality was the master of the body.

The third personality rarely came out because the other two always suppressed him. What made me sad when the third personality understood he was there only to receive the beatings and retaliate against the ones who bullied him. So, he thought it was normal for him to come out with bruises 😭

[collapse]

The MC has a space that was her study in her life. The time stopped at the time of her death and she could which ML she wanted to bring out as long as they held hands in sleep

Somehow

Spoiler

The MC loved the third personality the most because even though she was nice to the child and the depressed personalities, only the third one could give her security. He never acted violently with her and they always acted sweetly, earning jealousy from the girls in the village lol 🤣

[collapse]

Who left first

Spoiler

After the child personality left without any signs, the MC always was afraid if the third one would disappear like that so, she always picked him and brought him out. At this time, she followed him to do business that was illegal during that time. They earned a lot of money and planned to move out. The third personality exacted revenge on the first and second branches during this time until, one night, MC found only one personality was left in the study space

[collapse]

The master

Spoiler

She excitedly asked if it was the third or the second but, the ML answered it was the third. MC was happy while in actuality, the one who remained was the master who was the depressed ML. He didn't reveal it because he knew MC loved the third one the most so he was content even though he could just pretend. While he didn't come out, he observed the third personality's mannerism just so he could imitate it

All in all, the third personality somehow integrated into him while the ML learned to be confident. He wanted to be worthy of the MC so he came out of his cocoon

MC accepted him as who he was because she loved all the three personalities of her husband. She was the one who revealed the one who remained was the second personality.

They got one boy and one girl while ML was thriving with his business. Even the oriML and oriFL worked under him after they graduated

[collapse]

The ending was a bit rushed, I really hope there are extras. Although the author mistook DID as schizophrenia, please just ignore them while you're reading this book

By the way, MC's relationship with her MIL was so wholesome! And her MIL has a clear character development which I adore her <<less

I have dropped this a few months ago and thought about picking it up. However, after reading a few more reviews, I found myself sharing the same thoughts. The first part was okay, good. I did have some opinions with regards to how multiple personalities was written byt because I don't have much knowledge about it, I just passed it off as "unconvincing". But as I continue reading it, I find myself feeling uncomfortable with how she's beginning to be biased with one personality over the other. I mean, I... more>> don't really want to judge since I was not in her shoes and I can't sym/empathize no matter how I imagine it, but it's just uncomfortable to read. I don't want to blame her for falling in love with one personality but it's really just uncomfortable to read especially when the dominant (main) personality would feel bad and instead of improving himself on the right track, he's losing his confidence more and would stick to imitating the one personality that the FL like. I don't like it. <<less

The other 2 personalities kinda just died/merged with the main personality. Especially the whole struggle between 2 & 3. 2 was the main and knew the MC favored 3 over him so he tried to become what she wanted. 3 knew that he was losing control and struggled against what he could only see as his impending death.

Like why the heck is this so tragic? For what. For the MC? She's a little boring tbh. I had high hopes but meh.

Tradegy.

In fact if I could I would add a tragedy genre and dead protagonist tag. As someone who avoids tragedies I wouldn't have read this if I had known and think the rating would be higher if people knew going in.

Let's be realistic the MC wakes up with a husband and is constantly reminded that she was sold as a wife for cheap with no support.

Cattle sold and a big family unit that's toxic great start. I like this genre its my favourite and I've seen MCs claw back from... more>> worse starts. This is the translators second work and she does a great job sometimes he/she are mixed up but otherwise I see no problems

Everyone is hating on MC for being biased but it's not fair on her who woke up with no choice who she got to spend the rest of her life with.

In fact at least it seems she was given a choice of which personality she gels with and finds attractive to then start her life with. This power gives her a choice which she uses, she fell in love with one wholeheartedly. This whole section which is roughly 75% of the story I really enjoyed 4.5 stars.

BAM.

Fates just joking there's only 1 main. She had no choice its all a cruel joke from the author playing with MCs head and they all will merge eventually.

Except they don't actually assimilate since the other personalities basically just die. The only change is the main personality becomes able to cope in situations he couldn't before due to trauma and is able to mimic the other personalities behaviour. The sadest part is the personality knows that he will die and struggles so hard to stay and fight for this love. The MC doesn't tell him that's she's the reason he is able to stay so long and this false hope gives the dying personality more hope to survive. This is looking more and more like a bittersweet tradgey by the bloody chapter. They realise the reason they assimilate is because of her love and trying to help them. Then not much later after she starts to get her life on track like 60/80 chapters he dies *cried inside* The ML for 60 chapters out of like 80 dies, 75% of the story roughly. It's a tragedy. That's when the book ended for me.

I tried to keep reading to see her reaction when she realised the main personality was trying to hide the fact it wasn't her true love, the one she kept saying she would pick out of the 3 survived. That didn't come in like 5 chapters so I skipped to the last 2 chapters. He told her on the last chapter, she said she already knew but loved him/ the merged him. Even he says which of the 3 does she love he knows deep down they didn't merge, they just disappeared after he got over his hurdles. He even knows deep down even on his wedding day he would still expect her to not pick him given a choice. The fact she just carries on with her life with no reaction after essentially her lover /husband/ ML dies is too much for me so like I said I skipped to the end for some sort of closure. But in her shoes it's tragic but understandable that she carried on. She realised after fighting all throughout for somesort of freedom to live how she wants she had basically no choice she just got to put her head down and get on with her life like a puppet on a string and make the best of it. If she mourns her loss that will just make things even harder with main personality who she needs to survive after all she has no way of income off the books outside of the family register without

resources. With how strict the government is having been sold into that family she's stuck. That's why I think she so obsessed with money to buy happiness after all she can't pick her her true love or leave to live her own life. She can only love the guy on a surface level and just enjoy material wealth. Its the best she can do with the tradgey she's given in order to live a good life.

Spoiler

I shipped MC and 3 so bad, they were so sweet. For all those saying she bias, hell yes she is and hell yes she deserves to be. A modern women who goes back in time wants to have some choice over her life partner I hardly find anything surprising or anything wrong with that. In fact the book seems to let her for 75% of the book so in my mind he's the true MC. I feel bad for 2nd but the heart wants what the heart wants. Plus 2nd is not acting that way because of merging he was already starting the mimicking earlier on like with the foot washing after field work just to be like 3 so to take MC for his own. Plus 2nd gets what he wants and basically uses all of 3s resources as a springboard for his happy ending with MC if that ain't a stab in heart I don't know what is. 1 is a child I feel bad since he died without a goodbye or any sort of wrap up with MC or family that he loves. While you all feel bad for 2 poor 1 is the worst off. The little ball of fluff was the first to hug her and express his happiness for her appearance in his life although I'm glad author kept it PC since he's a child in that form. But yeah 1 deserves more love from us but if 2 are going to die he was gonna end up cannon fodder

[collapse]

It was an awful representation of the mental illness the translator even said the author at the beginning didn't do any research on MH. So basically they were 3 people/personalities in 1 body with DID slapped onto as a label to try justifying it as realistic. They aren't the same people they have different life views, goals and outlooks towards everything except they all love MC. That very same love ended up killing 2 of them. This ain't a love story is psychological tradgey. <<less

I think this novel deserves a higher rating. I understand how some people felt bad for the second personality, but I don't blame the FL for being biased.
Spoiler

Even she admitted, she likes the third personality the most. First of all, the third personality is the most open and the sweetest amongst the 3. (The FL is only 18 and is experiencing romance for the first time). The third personality gave her love and security. In the end, the 3 personalities merged and she fell in love with the second as well. The only complaint I have here is that there is no extras so I feel dissatisfied. I feel like the ending is rushed, although it was a clean closing.

It's ok at the beginning if you turn a blind eye on how Multiple Personality Disorder was tackled here. I can understand the people from the past because they are superstitious and they don't have a good personality. But the MC is so dumb. Aside from her poor way of treatung the ML, she also treats him as a 'character' from the novel. She also blatantly prefers the 3rd personality who is the villain from the novel not only because he's her favorite but also because he is the most... more>> beneficial to her.

MC is very flawed and it's also natural to prefer those who ease the burden. But I don't like how it is executed in the narrative. The characters are all one dimensional. There's a bit of hope with the 2nd personality... but if the MC is tr*sh, I can't continue reading.

Lastly, the translation is unbearable. It's fine at the beginning but it's getting worse. It's like mtl'ed. <<less

Really not my cup of tea.

In real life if the ML was treated as MC did to the 3 personality, it will be very detrimental to the patient. I am speaking from a medical point of view. So I was unable to continue it nor was I able to give more then 1 star.

I feel as an author, he/she should have researched more about dissociative personality disorder and wrote it.

Even as a book they shouldn't spread false knowledge. It's very harmful.

I actually really like this novel and want to give 5stars but as the plot progressed with MC selfishness and how she extremely partial towards the third personalities, I can't help but dislike her. MC makes me feel like the three personalities is different person. She's so selfish that I start to wish that the main personality will just take absolute control over his own body and left her. I'm over 50 chapters now and she's getting overly partial towards the third personality. Instead of taking the initiative and makes... more>> the main personality feel loved, she complained in her heart how the main personality is not sweet towards her. How the main personality just treat her politely not like the suave third personality. She want to treat his illness but at the same time haven't done anything useful. The main personality learning to take initiative to got out more and meeting new people. Isn't it bcs he want to get better for her? But she.... hmmmm
And also I don't get why the other readers don't find this disgusting, if this happen to a female character this novel will receive a lot of scolding and 1 star.

Overall, I like the idea of this novel. I'm staying for main personality and the plot. MC? I wish she was mentioned less but it was impossible bcs she's the ~main character~. I'm just going to complain about the selfish MC. If she's a real person I'll be scolding her so much that my mouth start to foam. 🥴

Edit: Okay so I finished the novel. I manage to lessen my hates to MC a little bcs of this line,

Lin Xiaoyue laughed haha, "But whether you are the third child or the second child, you are Yan Yang and my husband. Moreover, the three of you are one, you are already one person! So, I Love Yan Yang."

I still don't like her tho but it's okay 😂 Happy ending for our Main personality! ❤️ <<less

This drew me in with the unique twist of the ML having split personalities. But other than the ML, the other characters, even the FL, are bland and one-dimensional clichés.

Spoiler
  • The antagonists were the typical evil relatives.
  • FL was typical Mary Sue with the golden finger and hidden space trope which wasn't that bad.
  • FL's behavior was the definitely the biggest problem. She was touted as smart and clever in the first half but just becomes thirsty and biased to one personality in the middle to end of the novel. Like I get it, she was sold by her own mother and she felt secure and safe with the 3rd personality in the first part but she became so fixated with "keeping" the 3rd personality as the main personality especially after they had seggs. I kept rolling my eyes at her and I felt so sorry for ML cause she claims she wants him to get "better" but she's still doing the same thing ML's parents are doing which is rejecting and only accepting one part/persona of his. I hated the FL being so s*upid and childish in the later half it felt like I was reading about a 14year old when she's supposed to be a college-age student? It was mentioned earlier in the story that she was writing a thesis on something or other. ?????
  • FL was also dismissive and cold to the other personas and she only really accepted the 3rd personality because she liked his "badboy" type behavior. Gurl this man is traumatized and suffering but she's just hungry for the 3rd's D. WTF
  • Author definitely should have done more research about DID before writing it into the story. It felt more like a soap-opera gimmick about split personality but if this was real life, what FL did to ML would probably be very detrimental and not helpful for his condition AT ALL.
[collapse]

It was a slog to read to the end. I don't like leaving novels I've started to read, unfinished so I soldiered on till the end. I'm glad I finished reading this so I can move on to reading a better one.

This novel has a typical plot with funny moments and being slow burn as well, yet it becomes annoying at the same time, glad the author decided to end it, it barely passes the three-star mark in the later chapters. As for me, it is 3-star rating.

To be honest, the ML was the most likable character in this novel and is the one who kept me reading through it whole. Although the FL is selfish and immature at some points, I can't blame her for choosing security from the 3rd.

In the middle chapters, her decision to select the 3rd out of selfishness and love, helped the 3rd resolve and understand his grudges with his parents (and that gambler of second family brat). Even though he treats them well because they treat FL well, mostly the mother in the limelight.

And later on, the ML fused with (the first and) the third personality, well mostly third, because the first one left with not many details whatsoever, and became one Yan Yang. Which many felt uncomfortable about ML imitating the 3rd personality, I as well, but later on it's more so that they fused together some of their traits: courageous, bold, black belly, likes to read books, introvert... The problem here is that 2nd didn't get much limelight, only some chapters, and the 2nd main personality did change Solo a little about himself, but when he fused with the 3rd later on, he changed much more. Weird, but overall this is what kept the plot interesting...

I do blame the author for FL's golden finger, it made FL's character go Mary Sue mode, making her have full power over which personality to pick (obviously the 3rd 90% of the time). Of course, the author wanted to shorten the chapters, so that he doesn't go in details, and make the chapters longer. For example, make FL have fifty percent of which personality she wanted to choose, or make it disappear. (Never mind, too much rambling)
Rambling

FL's golden finger makes her a bad example for others: because she got money by depending on the golden finger, and now she doesn't need to study, and wants to have a salty fish lifestyle. The author contradicts his book, though, because it says at the end of the chapter that she got into "Beijing University" (doesn't exist IRL) somehow by being a salty fish. And the ML failed the exam (ML, the one who read books*), but FL's pregnant anyway, and can't go. It shows how FL can be so Mary Sue in this novel world, meh.

ML's quote:

"Yan Yang, failed the exam

He said... Uncomfortable!"

Author, I eye roll* you.🙄

FL 4/10 ML 7/10

(ML has development character, FL doesn't because the golden finger is too strong. Thus, the FL made me drop the rating, from 4 to 3)

Overall, passable read, if you want to burn time, it depends on if u like it or not. (especially DID disorder related in this fiction, novel)

There are bed scenes, a bit detailed/aftermath.

Good day. <<less

About female lead

Spoiler

so she is from another world transmigrated as a cannon fodder in a story book she read.

She has a golden finger, she has a space which is her study room (where she dies from waking all night to study) and she is actually able to buy things from taobao (online shop) and also able to wake up the third personality of the male lead

She can only enter her space when she sleeps and can take out/put back things from space as long as she is holding it

About the male lead

Spoiler

male lead has three personality

1. Child

2. Depressed man (main/dominant personality)

3. Strong violent man

The past of how the personalities were formed

The first child personality was formed when he was wrongly accused of stealing money (not sure if I'm correct but something related to that) the main personality felt depressed and thus a child personality was created and he let the child personality take over the body

Thus he is recognised as the fool

The parents of the male lead thought that the ML couldn't be taught and he was foolish so they decided to sell the male lead to another family, it was successful but the Wang family found out about ml's condition so they were mad and treated ML horribly even the child personality couldn't take it thus the third personality was born.

The male lead later on goes through a transformation after he meets the female lead. The dominant personality tries to resolve his own trauma for the sake of the female lead.

Thus, the first personality to go away is the child's personality.

Why I gave this novel 3 star

Spoiler

I don't like that female lead is biased!

Her favourite is the third personality and I can also understand it but still like as I have said before she has the power to bring out the third personality. So she constantly only brings him out.

She says that she loves all three of them and she knows that the third personality will also disappear because the main body is the second personality.

She rather the ML be two individuals than a single entity.

I really hate this biases! I wish she would accept all of them equally!

And the main personality ML is trying so hard to become normal and to protect the MC.

I wish she wouldn't be that biased!
