Mo Ran thought becoming Chu Wanning’s disciple was a mistake.

His shizun was really too much like a cat while he himself was a dumb pup who’d only slobber and wag his tail.

Dogs and cats were different by nature; originally, the dumb pup didn’t want to reach his furry paws out to that cat.

At first he thought, dogs should be with dogs, like his shixiong, beautiful and tame like a cute Japanese Spitz, and the two of them together would surely be a match made in heaven.

okay, after reading through 262 chapters, I think I'll be stopping here. I really wanted to continue but sadly : (there are a few reasons I've rated this 3/5 stars.

edit as of 20/07: okay I picked this up again bc I saw an edit on tiktok and felt the urge to give it a shot, I'm glad I did:)

funny thing is I happened to stop at just right before the most heart wrenching chapters, if not for that I wouldn't have known how much more saddening the novel... more>> could get (let's be real, I was already bawling) but this sadness was so good as well.

the sacrifices both wan ning and mo ran made for each other were endless, wan ning's suffering was told much earlier in the story, whereas mo ran's was only told much later in the novel. hence I could see why some readers who dropped 2ha halfway may have this misconception of his character (im guilty of this as well) although I stayed to see his redemption arc, I still had much doubts of his morals bc alot of his past actions were simply too hard to forget.

overall, this is a very tear jerking story, and I understand it might not be everyone's cuppa. I think one reason to complete this novel for me was the plot twists and character development! so for that, it's a 4/5 stars for me. one point taken off for the very detailed and unnecessary descriptions of non-con interc**rse flashbacks in the earlier chapters. and also for mo ran's idiotic actions and personality for about the first 100 chapters. like geez, give wan ning's trauma a break.

For this story you need to read the trigger warnings and then know that they /will/ happen but both completely and absolutely not in the way you'd expect. Lucky for me, I did read the trigger warnings and I have a brain that can take a lot of bs.

Nevertheless this story was new levels. It was batsh*t crazy, completely insane, een complete teringzooi (do not search up that translation), the weirdest and probably one of the more problematic things that I have ever read. Meatbun was like 'you see all... more>> those morals of you? yeah no I'm going to break them until only atoms remain and you're left questioning your sanity'... And that's the charm of it.

It's supposed to be something completely out of this world and insane and sure problematic if you wanna go there. I will admit I did not agree or like all the characters and could also see some things coming from pretty early on (

) so they weren't a surprise when it eventually came true. But one thing the story did do for me was get me hooked from the beginning. Honestly Chu Wanning's extreme lack of survival skills (is it masochism?? there's def some self hatred sprinkled in but all in the name for love ig *shrugs*) is more fun to read than I expected. At one point a problem I did stumble upon was that with the translation getting (sorta) a paywall and so I had to search another and eventually stumbled upon a readable mtl. I should probably reread the last part but I really don't have the mental capacity for that.

I've also seen that a lot of people were completely wrecked by the novel; I was not. I did cry, a few times, but it did not wreck me. I think what was supposed to make me feel so moved was that a lot of villains who were originally just shown as being bad got their backstory shown and though in a way it is nice I didn't really like the way it was done. You were often shown a very long flashback in the middle of a climax and for me it just didn't really work but that's probably because my brain is made more for stories that are more fastpaced and a flashback really slows that down.

In the end I don't really like how everything turned out but it was an interesting story. Meatbun is a very skilled storywriter who really pushes the limit of your morals. Her writing was also pretty nice except for the fact that flashbacks weren't really it for me (personal opinion!!). I also appreciated the gore, a little mu*der hurts no one once in a while (/hj). Anyway three stars for me because eventually that was just what I got from it.

Oh! and the extras are amazing, I absolutely loved those, idk why but they were neat especially the one in modern universe with Xue Meng (god I love his as*xual arrogant ass. He's so horrible, if no else of the ace people want him I will take him no worries I will take the heavy burden.) <<less

I love the writer Meatbun! This novel is quite a read, so be motivated and patient because it's worth it. What especially deserves 5 (up) stars are the interactions and LOVE between MC and ML. Nothing compares to this.

Well, I enjoy the story however about the r*pe and smutt hahahah I must admit I never get used to, but I really like the characters development especially for moran, and tanxian jun, it's like personality dissorder kkkkk, and also life lessons, for all characters. Don't judge the book from the cover surely apply for this novel kkkkk. And if you really like someone please confess it.

IT IS GOOD NOVEL!

Though the r*** part is disappointing most people here (I was too) but the longer I read, ML from first life is changing. Readers, please let him have a chance.

The reason for the character's actions made cry. Expecially MC. MC... You white cat!

Hopefully it will be translated completely. Please, translator, hear my wish!!!

This novel is phenomenal. It was heart-wrenching at times for sure, but the character development is honestly the chef's kiss! And don't get me started with the amount of UST!!! I could not put this novel down. I put this up there with MDZS; actually, I think this novel is better (PLEASE DON'T MISUNDERSTAND. I adore MDZS, but this novel is just better developed. The husky and his white cat sizhun is my favorite danmei!

The author has very well developed the characters and the plots. You really can't guess the ending and that's what I love.

All the little details that one might find unimportant in the course of the story are all interrelated and important and I find that unbelievable.

... more>> I adore the characters that it is wanning or mo ran which was superb or xue meng which j adore even if it is narcissistic as not possible I adore it.

The extras are great too is really interesting, very original compared to some extra from other danmei that I have read. <<less

Truly a masterpiece. This novel was the very first danmei novel I have read, and now I can't seem to find another story that tops this one. It set my standards way too high.

This story may not be for everyone, but if you go into it with an open mind and read it to understand the story and the characters, then you'll be able to realize how genius Meatbun is. It truly upsets me to see people rate this masterpiece so low, but what can you do.

Okay I'll be honest, I never wanted to write a review but this novel absolutely deserves one.

I loved it so much I went ahead and read the slightly better versions of MTL and finished it months ago but writing a review now because I wanted to give some clarifications incase anyone is doubtful.

I am in my late twenties & have read too many books to be healthy & never through any of the 311+extra chapters did I feel like this novel is for a less refined audience.

I will not say... more>> that this is the best piece of literature out there but it's definitely one of the good ones. Could have explored the characters more in depth & layered them better but maybe some things were lost in translation (not the translators fault though). Reading it in it's native language & a translated form will feel different.

The story & characters stay with you for a long time, especially 0.5 (I'm a Taxian Jun apologist & I'm not ashamed). The main characters are not perfect, they're flawed but inherently good & that's what makes it amazing. The redemption arc is good & MR 2.0 is one of the most sweetest seme ever.

Some may feel the number of characters is too much to remember. I definitely forgot a few names even while reading.

The 21+ parts are not super horrifying as I expected but if someone is easily triggered it's better to avoid.

-shi mei wanted to save his people who had been opressed and exploited for a long time & you cannot fault him for it. Only the way he went about doing it was wrong.

I started reading it four times. Three times I hated it. I couldn't get why others love it. I was annoyed. But I kept returning to it and trying again and again because I kept thinking about it and couldn't let it go. On the fourth time it was like something cracked, and suddenly everything made sense. And I fell in love. And it was exactly as good as so many reviews say it is.

It is really very, very powerful. For days I was going to sleep and waking up... more>> with my head full of the story, of the characters. It is also overwhelming - so much passion, so many facts, so many details. And at the same time it is a very impenetrable story. It leaves nothing to imagination. It is flawless but it is also hardly possible to add anything to it in your heart. So, I'm happy I've read it; I love it; and it gets better the longer it sits in your memory. <<less

In my humble opinion. CWN and MR should not have ended up together.

MR became a better person, that is true. The flower was to blame for his behavior, that is true.

But the toxicity in their relationship in the first life, if anyone were to go through that realistically

I don't think they would want to be with that person for whatever reason.

The ending would definitely be a tragedy for CWN and MR had they not ended up together, but it'd be a healthy way to end things.

However, because it's fictional, I think it's great that they ended up together. I even enjoy some of the fan art of them together. But in all honesty, I just don't see any logic of them being together other than blind love. Which is reasonable in a fictional setting.

It's a well-written story though. It doesn't try to make our MC / ML perfect. It instead tries to make them as faulty as possible, while also incorporating some fictional stuff in.

I really enjoyed the novel until the ending arc started. Roubao really has a way with words and makes everything flow beautifully but the ending was lack luster and felt a bit out of nowhere. As all endings do it made me feel empty but this one even more so because it felt as if their story was cut short.

I love the two main characters (especially chu wanning my baby) but the main villain should've had more characterization throughout the novel rather than just the end. Overall it was a really emotional read, if the ending was better this would definitely be a five.

I wanted to finish the story I really want to... Such a well written story, But my faint heart can't take the abuse and misunderstanding I felt so bad about shizun but I can't blame mo ran.. I can't vent my anger and it's so suffocating. It's been a year but I still can't finish this novel..

Don't be fooled by its cute cover and name. Don't ignore the tragedy tag. It's there for a reason.

Yes this story is full of angst! It can come in sweet sacrifices, prolonged misunderstanding, irrevocable words and actions, etc. You can read many variants of angst here. But don't let this scare you because the relationship between some people are so endearing and the romance is sweet.

This novel has very vivid descriptions and wonderfully woven words to inflict upon you the highest level of pain and the sweetest of emotion. Contrary to the title, picture, and description, this is NOT a light fluffy novel.

Instead, this novel is an extremely intense, heart-rending cultivation novel with ALL SORTS of trigger warnings, smut, rebirth, torture, gore, parallel worlds, "mountains of corpses and oceans of blood", apocalypse, demons, birth secrets, shattered souls, selective amnesia, r-p-, plots twists galore, living and dead zombies, tragic flashbacks and insane dopplegangers. There are tons of suffering, sweetness, and sacrifice. If you can handle the triggering subjects (of which there are so many), it's a wild ride of a... more>> story.

Major, major spoilers/plot summary:

To save the ML, the teen MC is cursed to become a cruel tyrant with selective amnesia. By age 32, the insane MC has razed the cultivation world and tortured/ens*aved most people, including the ML.

After their deaths, the MC is reborn to age 16. Without the curse, the MC becomes a righteous, loving man and the ML and MC eventually fall in love (especially when the ML wakes up 5 years after his death and the MC is now a mature, handsome man).

However, the villains have followed the MC's rebirth into this world and their new schemes avalanche to a devastating collision of worlds. The sh-- hits the fan, souls and spirit cores are fragmented/shattered/transferred, and there are "hundreds of millions" of corpses.

Somehow, it's a mostly happy ending for the MC and ML, every BG couple ends in tragedy, and there are some sweet/boring slice of life epilogue chapters that give emotional closure.
