Let’s Talk About That Guy Who Transmigrated to Pursue Me

Description

Wen Xuan was the head disciple of Water Cloud Sect’s sect leader. He spent the first half of his lifetime respecting his teachers and placing importance in the way of Dao. Friendly towards other fellow disciples, he was everyone’s role model.

He once believed that he would spend a lifetime like this. Until one day, he met a younger fellow disciple (shidi) who was unbelievably skilled.

This shidi told him that this world was actually a novel. And he, Wen Xuan, would become the most unsightly, petty little villain in this leveling up style cultivation novel. With the next half of his lifetime on a bumpy spiral downward after an erroneous decision, he will be betrayed and deserted by friends and family, cast away and end up dying miserably alone.

“After dinner for leisure, many people would use a mocking tone of disdain to discuss your disastrous life. But no one knew how you survived through all those years. No one saw how you struggled to hold on to your principles in your lonesome. No one cared about the suffering you experienced and your perseverance. But I saw it. I know. I care.”

“That’s why I came to this world. To become your support.”

Wow. I've read a lot in my life but very rarely do characters feel as real as they did in this novel. The character arcs were superbly written. The whole novel is stunning. On that note however, this story is 100% character driven. So be aware of this when going in. The plot is handled really interestingly and the usual tropes are done in inventive ways. Not to mention that the plot twists are hard to anticipate.

Please read the novel. It's worth it.

Wow, the only thing that really makes this novel stand out is the character development and their choices.

I feel like the reasoning and development pace could have been better, but the choices themselves were good enough to satisfy me. It really subverted what I thought was going to happen...

Originally, I felt uncomfortable about the relationship, but I like the way it went.

The angst was simple, but it had feels. Knowing about the ML though, it added an extra layer of complexity because we don't know if we can trust the... more>> ML.

This was a pretty simple novel (Predictable, but still interesting and fresh), but I liked how it went. It's short, so the ending comes quickly, but it's a decent ending. I feel bad that the main couple got all the attention and that the interesting (they were portrayed well!) side characters got forgotten. Still, there's nothing wrong with this novel besides what it could've done better, so why not try it? <<less

I like the story in the beginning and I don't really hate it, but I am disappointed. I wanted to explore more this world. Also there are several aspects of the plot left undeveloped. For example:

Spoiler

The head of the water sect, the demon, the shifu (who knows where he went), the mysterious valley, the progress of the relationship of MC and ML. The conflict lasted several years but the reconciliation was too fast. I wanted to see more of them because I liked the concept of someone who loves too much the ML to the point of turning into obsession and therefore toxic. I wish the author explored more this topic because it is my first time reading something like this.

It feels more like a finished arc than a finished novel. I want a continuation. <<less

This novel is a 4.5/5 (rounded up because I love transmigrations, wuxia, and devoted ML). HOWEVER it is definitely not without flaws. Main issues stem from the rushed nature of the ending, which left many plot points handwaved and character development unfulfilled. It almost felt like the author had planned for double the length, but decided to condense the entire second half into 12 chapters.

All the same, up til the end it's an incredible novel, especially the first 3/4. The plot developments leave you curious for more and the translation... more>> and humor are great as well. The character dynamic reminded me of MC and ML of Tian Guan Ci Fu (Heaven Official's Blessing), with the MC being pure hearted and ML being not quite as nice, but completely devoted to MC. The difference is that TGCF is mc+ML vs the world, while this story is more about MC and ML vs sorting themselves out...

All in all a great novel almost ruined by rushed ending, but still definitely worth a read. <<less

this was a really nice read I love it. I feel like this book despite being a cultivation novel, focuses alot on the human emotion and psychology.

The ML in my opinion has a very mysterious vibe to him despite being so cheerful and Sticky. He hides alot of details from the MC and only gave vague hints. This book really makes you look through the meaning behind each actions. He had a character development but I feel like it should’ve been earlier.

Mc’s chara development though is amazing, I really love... more>> him, from they way he tried to lure ML to confess, until his reply to world who had betrayed him. HNNG I CANT EXPRESS THIS ENOUGH.

The build of the story is really good too, all the “why?”s in my head and the foreshadowing is driving me to read more. It was really satisfying when in the end everything is connected. However, the last 2 chapters should’ve not been about the original protag instead is should be more about ML & MC because honestly its a waste to talk about the original protag <<less

This seems super interesting so far!!! I have no idea why the rating is so low. MC is very very promising; he's diligent and hard working, generous and "holy father" yet also fighting back when he needs to. ML also seems okay so far, although he's still a bit mysterious. ML is not the typical cool aloof cultivator but rather a blushing shidi who follows behind MC wagging his tail yet also still very possessive and jealous.

The story seems very interesting though, and it feels like the character development will... more>> be pretty great for even the side characters too. Already, the "shifu" seems pretty complicated (and honestly I hope they make up, and that CL stood on MC's side in the OG story too...) and that sect leader. Now I can't tell if he's really that bad a guy??

Anyway, I'm looking forward to more!! I hope that "this life" these people ML have no faith in are true to MC... and I really REALLY hope ML doesn't go down the yandere route lol. And if only it were seme protag...

Translations are pretty great and so far very very consistent. Thanks for the translating team's hard work!! <<less

I like it. I really do.

MC and ML setting isn't simple but not complicated. It's rare for MC to be twisted like that if it's not really their setting. It caught me off guard about MC's past. To think that MC is the one who need healing, not ML. I like how ML grow. He discovered himself and find a path for himself on his own. Though I'm disappointed he only look for MC after 7 years, and I don't like his approach about how he wake up MC from... more>> his delusion. Why not do it gently lol. Since I put myself in MC's point of view, I cried a lot and I got hurt about ML's word. MC is wrong but it's not his bad for doing so.

It's quite heartbreaking but fulfilling. Definitely worth reading. <<less

TL;DR- A lot of people say that it’s still worth a read despite the ending and they’re not wrong since I loved the first half. But if you’re the type who thinks that the conclusion is one of the most important parts of a story and can make or break a story, I would suggest looking elsewhere.
——————

If I only read up to around chapter 60, I’d be giving a load of praise to this novel and I’d give it a high rating. But wow the last 20 chapters are... more>> really just... so aggravating. It feels like the first 3/4 and the last 1/4 of the story are completely different novels.

I really liked the first 60 chapters. The pacing was great, the characters had so much dimension to them, the world-building was vivid, and the secrets kept you hooked. While reading it initially, I was already planning out the good review I’d give it... but then the last 20 or so chapters left me so conflicted. “Rushed” is an understatement;;; If the last 20 chapters were paced better, maybe it wouldn’t have been so bad since it genuinely had unique + ambitious character developments and plot points. Plus, I’m a big angst enthusiast so, in theory, the ending should’ve been my type, but the execution of it was a miss for me.

Ending spoilers:
Spoiler

1) It’s rare to see an MC that actually leaves and realizes how manipulated he was in a relationship. Novels often romanticize yanderes so I felt relief when it didn’t go that route and showed that the ML is actually trying to change. I LOVE stories that go against common, toxic tropes and show regret + development. It’s just that this change came wayyy too late and ended way too suddenly for me to feel any emotions towards it.

2) The first 60 chapters carefully detail the first year of their relationship and I loved that. But there’s suddenly a time skip totaling around 50 years within 10 chapters and they haven’t developed at all???? And then 50 years of conflict suddenly get fixed in the last three chapters...

3) Some of the main plot points and interesting characters get completely thrown away and wasted. Once the main characters run away from the main conflict of a powerful demon, it felt like the author gives up because after that, it was all downhill for me. I love that it took a darker turn near the end and it felt appropriate but I just wanted it to not be rushed : (

But now that I’ve wasted so much time ranting, I wonder if I’m being too harsh because I’m biased and I just hate any and all time skips;;;

[collapse]

Overall: The plot goes off and takes such an odd and different path from what I expected at the start. By the end, I was so disconnected from the main characters that I once liked because their major changes didn't feel properly fleshed out. But other than the ending and despite my complaints, I really enjoyed the first 3/4 of the novel. I'd give it a 3 or 3.5 rating. <<less

Rating: 3.5/5- uhhmm I don’t know how I feel about this novel. Whilst reading this I couldn’t help feeling that all its potential seemed unused.

The plot was clever but it had very heavy undertones that were overlooked and left for too late- leaving it unexplored or undervalued instead of properly expressed. I felt slightly disappointed with many things in this book because there were many really brilliant moments.

Villains were hardly used, characters were created but disappeared without reason or without ending their arc, the cultivation kind of got lost somewhere... more>> and it felt like many ideas started off but didn’t progress anywhere. What was most disappointing was how poorly the author wrote the MLs character.

I wanted to like this a lot more but I can’t help feeling like the author built up my hopes only to let me down.

The romance factor was doing well until the last 6 chapters and everything crumbled- just like the plot.

It became a weak finish for a novel that had a strong start and unlimited potential. Especially because this had the makings of a really good Xianxia novel. <<less

It's dog blood, it's yandere, it's extremely fulfilling to read! Despite it not being completely fluffy and smooth the entire way. It's convincing and you understand the character's logic, even if you think they're a bit s*upid or get exasperated by them.

Not sure if I can say it's a little crazy - but even if the ML leans a little towards cold blood and kinda mean, honestly it's really gratifying sometimes looking back. As a narrator, the MC's perspective can sometimes be overtly nice, but at the same time the... more>> ML is way too mean with a precondition to assume the worst in others. Both the characters are very human, while they have faults, they both grow from it in the end. Btw the ML is mean to literally everybody around the MC until like, the very last chapter lol, so don't expect him to get any better! I like this kind of mean behaviour, I think it's extremely gratifying to read. But if you're squick about it - there's a lot of cw for this novel you should probably watch out for

Another interesting thing is the perspective, I love how this is set from the person IN the cultivation novel's perspective. It's so refreshing and quite different. The pace keeps you wanting to dig for more, even if you're exasperated with the characters. The plot is well-thought out, I quite enjoyed how even though I was 'done' with the ML and his schemes, little trickeries and deceits, I still wanted to know their backgrounds, how they uncover their pasts and also how their relationship develops more.

The direction their relationship develops is like, a huge part of the story development (pace) and plot and I don't find many novels that does it as well as this one? Feels like I did a little dance while reading, it's definitely not just one smooth ride, but every progression adds something and I find this quite well-done. I don't find it annoying or over-done. I think as a device, the author uses the plot to control the pace very well.

They don't get together (officially?) until the last 2 chapters lol but I thoroughly enjoyed their flirting the entire time. Even if it's ambiguous or in a 'getting to know each other' stage for more than hm. 100 years at this point. It's still really good!! Highly recommend checking it out, it cuts you unexpectedly but it's only a paper cut. <<less

tldr: Read for the storyline, plot, 3D characters. Don't expect too much from the ending.

Storyline: Loved it! The way everything was slowly revealed feels so nice and natural. The romance is slow burn !! If you don't like it, please don't read. Please pay attention to their relationship as they go through the hardship together. The plot is Not useless. The point of all the troubling times they're facing is that MC's life is full of difficulties and ML is there for him!! It's there to strengthen and develop their... more>> r/s ! If you can't see how they got friendlier and closer throughout all this then it's not the novel's fault. Ntm, ML is interested in MC because he's living the worst life, like thats the point !! The protag does not appear often bc this story is not about him !!! It's about MC, a mob chara who barely interacts with protag.

Characters: Love how human our MC is! He's noble, trusting, and breaks down when he learns the truth, but still manages to break away from codependency. Strong willpower !! Truly a noble immortal! ML is fine and cute and all he got in his mind is MC, he even cuts his student-teacher r/s with his shifu bc he doesn't want anyone else in his heart. Knowing this, it's kinda OOC when
Spoiler

ML decides to trouble himself with original body's family affairs. Literally doesn't affect him at all. When he realizes the original was killed, he even says "How injustice!!" like do you really think he'd care about justice and righteousness? He literally doesn't mind demonic cultivation.

[collapse]

Ending: It felt sooo rushed, there's a timeskip and the novel ends 2/3 chapters later? They have so many things to talk about & sort out their r/s but hey they got together so all is well right? 🙄. Ntm, MC changed so much he felt like a different person.
Spoiler

ML didn't develop at all in his 50 years of living in the novel but he suddenly did by the end of the novel, in one day... and all it took was the protagonist and his FL to act slightly different. like HELP, does everyone else not develop at all?? Are protag & FL the only dynamic characters in the novel?? It's so, , perplexing. ML also acted the same after he got abandoned by MC. Like, are you sure this is the same person who'd rather die than live without ML? Later ML asked protag if he ever asked FL what she wanted (and also being angry about it) but does he have the right to ask that? after what he did to MC?

This is first time I literally cried, tears and all, sobbing uncontrollably, because a Novel. It broke my heart... It's HE though. THANK GOD!

It has Dark undertone near the end. And it was Heartbreaking!

I personally think everyone should not judge the characters. Especially both ML and MC. Their characters are mean to be like that in the story to gives the Mystery, the Drama, the Conflict, and all those Emotional moments!

The story never hide the flaws of the characters and even their darkness and their meaning of actions. It just... more>> has slow but steady revelation.

For me, I like the pace of the story, even when it broke my heart and made me literally cry like a baby and I need to hide my face with pillow and calmed myself before continue the story. I personally think it's like Slow Romace, but with Mysterious reason that revealed. Like at the beginning, I was like "it been years and they're still not together??!". But when all the truth finally revealed and no more secret, and their heart is more steady, I finally gets it. And when they immediately jump into relationship, it's not fast at all! It makes sense to me!

The novel is totally different from any of my expectations, but I'm not disappointed at all. I have a Love/Dislike relationship with this novel. 😂😭 <<less

It's been long since I've last write review for story but I can't not write this one.

This story is different from normal leveling-up Xanxia novels. It tells the story of two persons with their own stories met and helped each other, and learned how to love.

It's a little bit dark for me though, may be because I'm very used to the stories where MC & ML always win and always got what they wanted.

My rating is between 4.5&5 stars.

I like how author pointed at toxic possessive behavior is bad, not cute nor adorable at all. Like how "I do for your own good" of ML turn MC into something he's not, MC even develop a fear to go outside. I kinda hear "mother knows best" from Tangle in his tone lol. In the end all problems got fix.

the only bad guy in the story is proably the sec leader, the other are all good and bad, it's human anyway. We gonna do thing for our own interests.

what I dislike is how it take so many chapters (aka nearing the end) to know who ML is and How did he come. But I guess if it's clarify early, then it might be 50 chapters novel :) and we don't even get to know the overall plot of the novel that MC read apart from him mention it here and there.

This is a very healing story, I recommend 100%... Ish.

Undoubtedly there were some parts that I didn't really like, but by the end, those parts were resolved quite nicely. There's a reason for Jian Yi to behave like he did, and Wen Xuan's way of thinking really showed how much he changed; comparing the first few chapters and the last chapters really made me realize that.

The other reviews about how this novel had a very rushed ending made me slightly hesitant to read this but since I usually can't focus on a novel after the 100th chapter, I felt that this was perfect for me. But it wasnt really that rushed. The main points are stated but theirs also the background details to give context. Tbh I might have lost interest if by the end the author talked about how the ML conquered each sect and meet those demons -_- Anyways the interaction between the... more>> ML and MC was soooooo cuteeee!!!

Spoiler

The only thing that had me disappointed was how the MC manipulated the ML when the ML gained his demon form and stopped him from interacting with anyone else. He kept saying that it was for the MLs own good and controlled him emotionally. However, when the ML went into the deepest part of the MCs heart and saw his past I was crying so hard for the poor guy. He was handicapped his whole life and eventually just died and his parents didnt even care about him by the time he finally died. But he got the chance to reincarnated in any world he wanted and he chose the MLs novel. He wanted to save the ML and wanted to be saved in return. Very beautiful! This made me not be as angry at the MC but by the end I couldnt rlly look at him the same way I did in the beginning.

Started since the translator Infinite jumped onto this and so far has got a great track record for updates and lighthearted story choice lol. It does seem interesting in that the transmigrator ML is pretty open about his transmigration. The MC’s personality so far doesn’t seem to be anything super outstanding yet but he seems sweet ah. Spoiler

I am probably the first one to criticise the MC here and I might seem like I'm siding with the paranoid ML but since this is a romance with a paranoid person involved then and there it's doomed to be different from what everyone expects ! So here goes nothing -

I don't know how to feel about this one! The story had an interesting plot and very good characters but for me these characters still seem somewhat missing that bit of development and edge ! Might be because I am an idealistic and decisive person.

I feel that the ML's thoughts about being the irreplaceable were not what bound him. What truly bothered him was nobody bothered to tell him that being replaceable doesn't actually mean that you don't have a place of your own in this world! He needed to understand that being replaced won't make him less valuable! But due to his twisted fate in first life and also the second life all he saw was betrayal! In his first life his hopes were crushed time and again by his parents. In his second life his hopes to save and be saved were crushed time and again by the person he wanted to save and be saved by. As a result of this we see him becoming the crazy person he was towards the ending chapters wherein he did very many horrible things. And I'm not trying to justify things for him bcoz what he did was truly horrible. Especially that last question to the original protagonist was really absurd bcoz he himself never asked the MC.

Queue in the MC here bcoz this guy ! He really lacked some serious communication. The whole innocent mu*der drama could have been avoided if he just told the ML that after some time he could control his human flesh cravings and that they should just afk in jungle and find demonic beasts to practice his hunting ! He could just be the jungle king a little earlier but no he had to go to that valley and realise he can't let go of ML then take the big hearted route to wait for ML. In the whole novel even after he realised his feelings he never took the initiative but just kept waiting for ML then at last he very high standingly lowers himself to search for ML but still ends up misunderstanding him and expecting the ML again to take the lead.

The whole plot about that ye person is just there without any real purpose but the MC in my opinion gives him a lot of importance. If there was no ML then MC wouldn't even know about the whole ye person saga and that valley and still die miserably. But he still says that the person who had most impact on him and because of whom he was standing here was ye person. Well if there was no ML then he wouldn't even have a chance to develop this opinion on ye person.

Finally while I do agree that there was some good character development but I don't quite like the way this happens. The whole point here being that the ML had to grow up from his obsession and MC had to let go of his naïve thoughts, what we actually see through the chapters is that ML suffers through hell to go through his character development and finally turns around to become this sunshine guy who radiates light ! On the contrary the MC although is abandoned left and right still has the ML to console him which in turn allows him to go on smoothly with his upright nature and accept people even though they betray him at the end. The MC towards the ending chapters even gets upset and misunderstands the ML just because of his upright nature ? How can this person understand other people betraying him and not feel upset but one time he finds out ML not behaving the way he thought and he gets upset! Then again he goes and apologises to that ye girl saying that ML's behaviour was due to his neglect but still doesn't have the guts to tell the ML about his true thoughts! Alternatively if he had found that ML died during those seven years searching for him then would he just shrug and let it go ? I am glad that he walked out of ML's manipulation but what if it backfired- would he regret ? And what if he regretted ? There is no medicine to regret!

The whole episode at the end regarding that waxing moon island wherein the author describes that it would be okay if MC explained to them seems really weird considering that everyone on that island had betrayed the MC twice! MC doesn't owe any explanation to them. The ML does owe them an apology bcoz he behaved horribly to them before.

The author did a good attempt at portraying the complexities of human behaviour and relationships but it feels like they couldn't control the flow after some time...... it's true that in real life many things remain unresolved and many decisions are unreasonable but this whole romance leaves a weird aftertaste which doesn't feel right even after breaking down each character ! Again there are also hole like extreme s*upidity by the characters at crucial moments wherein it's previously stated as a warning but they don't remember unless their life is on the line.......
