Awwwwwww..... 🥰🥰🥰

Reading how the FL and the ML relationship progresses was such a heartwarming experience. And I also like how this story shows the different happiness and goals that people want to achieve in their life. But we should remember not to bring harm to others while doing so. Such a nice and fun read. 🥰🥰😊😊

This is a really sweet, relaxing novel. There were a few points where I was nervous for the MCs but overall quite relaxing. The ending stopped at a nice place, I think. There wasn't that terrible feeling of the story not being complete. The characters have a decent amount of complexity, I think. It wasn't a huge amount, but it was there.

Spoiler

A bit of disappointment that the ML's brothers and in laws just kind of disappeared after they moved.

Like the other reviewers said, this story has a lot of gaps but if you're looking for a fluffy and relatively inoffensive read, this story is it.

The leads fall in love pretty quickly and none of the conflicts get dragged out.

It's a quick slice of life read at 90 chapters (compared to the stories with a chapter count in the hundreds/thousands). Also, compared to the other stories about life in this era (like Back to the Sixties, Bai Fu Mei in the 70s, Married to a Disabled Man in the... more>> 70s) it's definitely the most tame. While the few antagonists that are sprinkled throughout can be pretty annoying, they probably won't anger anyone that much because their fighting power is so weak. Almost all of them are stereotypical jealous sister-in-laws, villagers, neighbours, etc with poorly thought out schemes.
The leads aren't struggling in abject poverty either so them trying to make money is sort of a hobby more than a need for survival. I have to say though, the mother-in-law in this novel was a real surprise. She's nice to the FL and not overly conservative.

The ML is sweet.
Spoiler

He's stoic and serious like the other soldier archetypes but he'll always spoils his wife and he goes along with pretty much everything she says. My only complaint is I would've liked to see more of his character's thoughts and feelings, especially after they return to the base. Once he resumes his soldier job, he sort of becomes peripheral to the story imo. The whole thing about him being unlucky sort of disappears because he doesn't encounter anymore particularly horrible scenarios. I thought this was unfortunate because her being around to save him was literally the premise of the story.

[collapse]

Anyways, if you're bored and a fan of this genre I'd recommend it. <<less

The translations are great and the story is fluffy. It's just that...

I felt bad for the original Su Yue. She was tricked into the youth program and was depressed. In fact, she was so depressed that she "lived in a daze" and "couldn't get up from bed." She was also an introvert and had no friends. Her last wish was for someone to live instead of her.

Our MC comes along and gets to live again thanks to the original. After noticing that others don't like the original, do you know what she said?

She felt it was indeed the original's fault. No wonder others didn't like her.

I was shocked. I get that the original was working so she had responsibilities and her depression caused conflict with others but wow.

I tried to read more after that, but I couldn't. Transmigration stories are really morally tricky. Since essentially a soul steals another person's body. The least the MC (and author) could have done is to respect and be understanding of the original.

[collapse]

Other than that and the plot holes. It's an okay read. There are better transmigration stories. <<less

I would say thisis a pretty standard 70's novel- with villages, food, black markets, college revival, economic freedom etc. It is a good read if you aren't looking for something different- just a fluffy romance in the 70s china. However there were somethings that I found missing.

  • Spoiler

We never got to see MC's real family throughout the novel. I was looking forward to some drama, or faceslapping since I knew her family was patriarchal and the MC had transmigrated so there must be someone who will suspect her. However, her family was very vague.

  • Spoiler

One of the side character left her husband afer the college entrance examination. I know that people did break up with their spouses during this time, but it was due to the fact they wanted to appear for the next exam which married people were not allowed to, or hooked up with someone from college. But this side character did nothing at home except read and beat her child, and just as the news of exams reinstated was delivered, she immediately wanted to divorce, which doesn't make any sense. It feels like the author just wanted to show what was happening in the 70s and pasted it on this couple. (Now I could be wrong about this one since my only source is other novels I read on this platform)

    [collapse]
  • Spoiler

The previous life was never expanded either. It just felt like it was a tool for modern MC to accept the ML immediately as her fated one.

An excellent novel to read if you wanted to pass some time. I finished reading it for like a day nonstop. It has 90 chapters, so yeah, I didn't sleep.

The novel is nothing new. It has a system and bad neighbors cliche plot but still worth reading. The whole novel story is slow-moving, but for some reason, the author made it relatively fast-paced as it reaches the end of the story. And to tell you what, the end part of this novel could have been the best, but it was... more>> just not tackled more by the author. The story is just focused on the romance, but I think the author could've just slowed it more and focus on the cute fluffy side of her (MC) motherhood.

Spoiler
[collapse]

It also ended abruptly. I thought that because the author opened a new environment for the story (them going to the city), it'll continue but no. It just ended as the MC was able to open her restaurant. By the way, I was disappointed that her babies never had a side story for their own because both of them are just the cutest. There's a lot of things that wasn't tackled in the novel. It was never even revealed where are the original parents of the MC are. Like where they are? I expected them to come even when the MC was in the military compound with her husband but no. They never appeared once.

All in all, this is a good read of a novel but there are better novels out there with almost the same story plot. <<less

This is the first time I gave a book review, I already mtled this book to chapter 37 so far. I think it's enjoyable and fun. I liked the fluffy moments in the story and I don't see many flaws. Conflicts get resolved pretty quickly, at least compared to other Chinese novels.
Spoiler

Although in the first chapter or so, the MC learns that Han Aiguo (the ML) is one of her previous lifetime's lover and she accepts him basically right away, so it's a little unrealistic. I guess I could say she has high adaptability. I like the MC's character otherwise, she finds farm work tiring, is a foodie, and resolves conflicts pretty well :)

[collapse]
I find it sort of funny that Han Aiguo's (the ML) name has the same characters as "patriotic" in Chinese. If you like reading stories that take place in China during the 1960s-1980s, then I think this story will be great for you!

This was an alright read. It's not the best but it's not bad either.

Like the other reviewers said, there were a lot of missing information that should have been added. I would like to know about her family and how that Mao girl who abandoned her husband and son fared. I was really hoping she didn't even get accepted to go.

Also, the children of everyone else annoyed me so bad. The third sister in laws kids and that Fang woman's son just made me want to take off my belt... more>> or something.

I really liked the ML and the MC but moreso the ML. He was just so good.

5/10 would maybe recommend. <<less

It was such a joy reading this one. MC has a very great character and I especially like how she's even excited for meeting the ML, instead of being repulsed by it. I mean, a quality man turns out to be your destined lover, I would be excited as well. The romance is great and the MC and ML have money-making skill. The greedy neighbors/relatives are always present - very typical for Chinese novels in an old era setting. I highly recommend reading this.

Do not expect amazing plot building though.... more>> Read this for the fluff. <<less

Good read. Its simple and relaxing. Oh, I wanted a few more chapters.

Spoiler

Main plot is that MC and ML are like the destined match every lifetime. But a traverser broke them apart. MC was badly hurt. ML exchanged his like vitality to save her. And so, because of this, ML and MC can no longer be together and ML will be subjected to a life full of bad luck and loneliness. But because ML was destined to be a soldier every lifetime, he also save alot of lives. As the system phrases it, the heavens will not let a man who saved and can still save alot of lives just die. So the system was sent to MC to protect ML.

Not much problems along the way. Except for the annoying 3rd sister-in-law and the occasionally annoying patriarchal 2nd sister-in-law. There's also those annoying neighbors in the military compound.

Its refreshing to read a novel in the 70's with a kind, reasonable and amiable mother-in-law. She very different from other mother-in-law in other novels with the same setting.

Love between MC and ML developed fast. Well, I guess it got a lot to do with the fact that they were destined to be together even on their past lives. So there's the automatic attraction. However, the marriage didnt happened until about around c40's.

You have to suspend a LOT of disbelief and turn off your brain, but I couldn't even enjoy it then.

Transmigration, gourmet system, magical malls and items, past lives, destined lovers... fine, but then why set it in 1970s China if there's no struggle of 1970s China? Why not just modern day rural China?

FL and ML's family are cooking with sugar, eggs, oil, and meat as if they don't require ration tickets on top of money. The author did the lazy thing in the beginning where it was lightly mentioned that... more>> FL and ML's little brother got tickets while they were selling her food, but it can't be unlimited? Also she isn't sneaky in her black market dealings, when she does it herself.

She also isn't known for being rich or being sent money from home, and she's physically weak, so why is no one questioning how she can afford to eat meat and eggs or use oil and sugar so often?

Spoiler

Also, ML's taciturn personality is just completely obliterated once he gets a whiff of competition. I'm personally not a fan of when a character does a complete 180 in the blink of an eye. It's not growth; it's lazy writing.

Also while I'm here in the spoilers, near the beginning FL borrowed eggs and white flour from the ML, and he was wondering why borrow from him as anyone in the village would be willing to lend eggs and flour to her. UMM, NO.

Eggs and white, refined flour were highly valued, one for it's nutrition, and the other for the mouthfeel of its finished product. Unless FL was on very good terms with the other villagers, no one worth their salt would lend out such precious commodities to a total stranger.

[collapse]

The cooking scenes aren't very detailed, and sometimes even those vague details are wrong. Red beans aren't naturally sweet enough to taste like commercial red bean paste; candied sweet potatoes would need more sugar than most rural 1970s Chinese households would be willing to use on a non-holiday.

I've got a lot of other gripes, that coincide with other reviews, so I'll just leave this as is.

Overall it feels like a poor imitation of "Married to a Disabled Man in the '70s, " which has a similar enough of a premise with a better execution imo (biggest difference is the family stuff and the FL being a villager instead of an educated youth).

Spoiler

In the end our FL opens her private restaurant and ML gets promoted and after that they had s*x and the story is over.

I literally thought that there were still many chapters remaining and it ends just like that.

Many intresting characters were left hanging in the end. If only the author spend one or two chapters to let us know about their ending, I wound give this novel a 5 star.

And the other thing is Fl's parents. It was only mentioned a couple of times. It was said that they were patriarchal and send their daughter to suffer in the village. And then all the people forgot about them. They didn't even appear once and neither did they send any letters to enquire about their daughter when she was in the village. I thought I would get some face slapping chapters but no.

Overall this is a good nivel to read if you can ignore the pot holes in the novel. <<less

this MC and ML didn't go take university entrance exam or go to any university at all. Only ML littlest brother went to uni.

Just a novel for casual reading. Doesn't venture much into MC's business. I feel like it's more drama than anything. ML also doesn't really stand out much. A typical military man who loves his wife. Good trait but just common in these types of novel.

I also agree with a previous comment. The MC goes into the original body, isn't really thankful but instead, blames the og body for how the others treat her. If it weren't for the system, she'd be just your typical woman and would have to work... more>> really hard in the countryside even when possesing the og body's beauty. Makes me feel really uncomfortable when reading so less points for that.

Tbh, I also don't agree with her not going into university. Even though she could go later if she wants. But that's just me tbh and I was also growing bored with the story at that point.

Points for the mother in law tho. <<less

The story is nice and we'll written. Every chapters are longer and the translation are well done 👍.

There are minor misunderstandings, there's face slapping, there's no another female villain who will the ML lol. Also, love the MC she's straightforward and hardworking, I swear I wish I could eat everything she cooks. As for the ML I love him. I think that the system is just useful for like 3x lol, I feel like the MC should have used the system more. It feels incomplete coz I would badly want... more>> to more about the babies and business after. I would also want to more about the daughter of her second brother. The author should have written more of them ಥ‿ಥ. I truly wish that there are more chapters and extras ಥ‿ಥ. Also what happened to the host family? All in all it's a good read. Can be read for a day or two so it's not really that taxing. The official translators did not finish it yet so I read the mtl version.

The only thing is that its too shallow. The story is really not that bad but the details and sequences of events just brush the surface and some parts were just left as it is.

I rated it 3.5~4 cause it's still a good (for me I guess). Bai Fumei in the 70s is the first... more>> novel I read where I learned abt the Chinese Cultural Revolution and it really piqued my interest so I've been checking other novels just like this one. <<less

I did not like the way this author writes.

Transmigration stories are tricky. Essentially the MC is stealing and taking over a random body and lives their life. Authors use several tactics to make this morally ok; like making their last wishes come true, taking revenge for them, taking care of their loved ones etc.

This author did not do anything like that. They just wrote that the OG last wish was that someone else lives their life and then considered this issue solved. But then continued to badmouth OG saying it... more>> is right for her to be disliked, and it is her fault that OG is so disliked.

I also found the way author writes women problematic. The bad female characters are all written as ugly. They are bad because they are ugly, and they are naturally jealous of all the beautiful women. They keep putting too much importance on how someone looks and makes sharp correlations on that that means.

I found it very toxic.

Last straw for me was that the ML started very good, but as his wounds starts to heal and his self worth starts to increase, he started to show more and more possessive behavior.
