After an accidental death, in order to continue to live, Gu Bai had to choose to go through various wonderful books to complete tasks.

Every time he became a variety of small cannon fodder inside the story, Gu Bai’s code of conduct when completing task is – by all means, don’t be inferior, don’t be shameless, don’t be upright… hold on to a golden thigh.

… N times after transmigrating

Cannon fodder: (angry contempt) … You’re already so powerful, why are you still shamelessly holding on to a golden thigh to deal with us!?

Gu Bai: (deadpan) That… holding and holding… got used to it…

I loved the way Mc's personality changed throughout the story as he gained back his heart? feelings? He's also not all forgiving and unrealistic as he punishes people who have wronged him as he does the tasks. The ML is also very loving towards the MC. He will never hurt MC or make him do anything against his will. ML is protective and possessive of MC, while MC is also possessive of Ml.

I see a lot of people complaining that the arcs have been rushed, but that what a qt... more>> is... a collection of short stories centered around the main characters. Some arcs were shorter as Mc's tasks were easier to complete while others were longer as the task was more complex and he needed to do more power plays.

MC also didn't just complete the tasks through the power of the ML and actually put work into them.

Arc 1 - Adopted MC x Powerful ML (Modern)

Arc 2 - Cultivator MC x Devil Sect Leader ML (Cultivation)

Arc 3 - Prostitute born MC x Crown Prince ML (Ancient)

Arc 4 - Gamer MC x Rich Top Gamer ML (Modern)

Arc 5 - Puppy Yao MC x Emperor ML (Ancient)

Arc 6 - Amnesia Zombie MC x Underworld Boss ML (Modern)

Arc 7 - Fallen Plaything Prince x Warlord ML (Ancient)

Arc 8 - Infatuated Fan MC x Famous Military Duke ML (Interstellar)

Arc 9 - MC and ML original world + story <<less

This quick transmigration novel both reminds me of why QT novels are so well liked but also why QT novels are so disliked too. There's some really great worlds in this, but also some really terrible ones too, and of course the big deal-breaker (for some) : an overbearing, as*hole male lead.

Let's front-load the good first: some of the worlds are really, truly good, and the author is incredibly skilled at generating pathos, even when the audience knows that the protagonist is acting. Some of the revenge, while a tad... more>> excessive, also feels really, really good. So good, in fact, that the moment I finished, I went back and reread it just to revel in how good it was. (My personal favorite is the third arc. Punishment is excessive as heck but so, so satisfying for some reason. This arc made me realize why some folks like revenge fantasies so much.)

Now as for the bad: some worlds are B A D. Like, frustratingly bad, since there are so much good to compare to. For instance, the gamer arc was extremely, extremely sexist to the point that I wanted to forward articles written by actual women who are gamers to the author just to go, "The reason there are less well-known girl gamers is not because of some intrinsic difference between men and women but because the gaming environment is so hostile to girl gamers that even when girls do game, they usually try to do so offline or with a male pseudonym to escape harassment. Also, f*ck off."

Spoiler

That's not even mentioning the dog arc, where, OK the protagonist is a yao, but he's still a freaking dog!! I can take a lot of really weird fetishes, but the bestiality vibes in this arc squicked me out s o m u c h. Like, why couldn't the narrative make the protag a yao who had already gained human form?? Why all that time spent as a dog?? Why, even after gaining human form, does he still spend the majority of time as a dog?? Why all the creepy moments when protag still had no human form when the male lead was still into him as a dog?? WHY?? If I ever turn into a dog and my significant other shows interest in me, I would dump that girl the second I turn human again o m g.

[collapse]

TLDR; Kind of the epitome of QT novels? Not in the sense that it's a really good QT novel, but that it kind of exemplifies what QT novels are like -- some really good, engaging worlds, along with some worlds that are absolute shit. Honestly, I just came here to ??? About that dog arc because why.

EDIT: OK, as I read more of this, it's just become increasingly clear that the author has some truly ridiculous hang-ups about women, not even just in the usual sense where "women in BL manga are all evil" but also in the sense that she makes some truly wild essentialist statements about women as if they were Actual Indisputable Facts. Such as: girls are less physically strong so they're not good at gaming (?? Wtf??), girls are easily bored with a subject like archaeology (again wtf??), and so on and so forth. Honestly, it's gotten to the point where I preemptively brace myself whenever a female rival is in an arc because I just know the author will make some truly ridiculous statements about not just the woman as a person but women as apparently a category of beings who all share Exactly the Same Indisputable Traits. I was originally going to rate this a 3 out of pity, but honestly the sexism is way too egregious for that. (It doesn't appear that often simply because women don't appear that often in this author's world, but whenever there's a woman, you bet there's going to be some sexism. Jeez.) <<less

I love this one! The ending was really good~ 5 stars~ (*u*)

I didn't like it at first because I thought that the MC was too stiff but I trust people's rating in Danmeila and so I gave it a try. After reading more arcs and reaching the ending, I finally understood why the MC was like that. ML and MC's story was bittersweet. Their love for each other was so strong and enviable.

About the title, it wasn't really about MC finding a golden thigh to hug. MC was capable... more>> enough to finish his tasks without ML's help. And sometimes ML disrupts the events and MC was like "Why is it happening now when it's supposed to happen later?" LOL I like strong MC. XD <<less

Old review, when I rated this four stars, with an edit underneath explaining why I changed my mind:

While this story is good, I have seen better. For example, Don't Pick Up Boyfriends from the tr*sh Bin has a pretty similar premise, but a better plot.

And yet, Holding On To My Man is entertaining enough for me to want to read more. It's not perfect, but I like it. Peony did a marvellous job translating the start, with Chrysanthemum Garden and NovelBear taking up the mantle afterwards.

The reason I didn't give... more>> this five stars is that the translations of NovelBear are a little off. It's not the grammar that's the problem, it's mostly the word choice. It gives the impression that NovelBear is a Chinese person who speaks English as a foreign language.

I don't have a perfect example in mind, but if you go to see the latest chapter that has been translated, here's what you'll find at the start:

Hidden tasks, as the name suggests, it wasn't so good to find the task, it was all by luck.

However, according to the information advantages provided in the plot, Gu Bai recalled.

In the plot, Song Qianxun was a girl from an ordinary family, no money, no game technology f, the reason why she could become a goddess in the game world was the pursuit of several mythical players, and her fortune, inadvertently got a hidden mission.

And here is how I would correct that:

Hidden tasks, as the name suggested, weren't easy to find. It was all down to luck.

However, thanks to the information advantages provided in the plot, Gu Bai knew where some of those tasks were.

In the plot, Song Qianxun was a girl from an ordinary family, with no money and no game technology. The reason why she could become a goddess in the game world was because several mythical players pursued her and because she was fortunate to inadvertently get a hidden mission.

I'm not sure if NovelBear just doesn't speak English as his/her first language, or if (s) he used MTL and just corrected the grammar without bothering to change the weird wording. This example wasn't the best to showcase the weird phrasing, but I was too lazy to look for anything better.

Basically, for me to give this 5-stars, NovelBear would need an English-speaking beta-reader to clean up their chapters a little.

EDIT: The links to the NovelBear translations have been deleted, and Chrysanthemum Garden has taken over with a higher-quality translation, re-translating the chapters NovelBear has translated. As a result, I retract my previous complaints of quality. I have modified my rating and taken it up to five stars. <<less

Ok so I wasn't gonna review this but I got so incredibly infuriated that I just had to vent somewhere.

This book is really a mixed bag, sometimes what you get is absolutely amazing and other times it's borderline tr*sh. I haven't actually finished reading all of the arcs, currently I've gone through 7 of the 8 (ish) arcs. Personally I really enjoyed the 1st and 3rd while I'm generally apathetic towards the 2nd, 4th and 5th. The 6th and 7th though made me cry out of how absolutely infuriating they... more>> were.

Before I talk about that though let me talk about the characters. Honestly the characters are fine, the MC is kind of bland if not emotionally stunted. It's explained in the plot that he grew up this way and that he's always been emotionless but even after he does fall for the ML he still has absolutely no empathy at all. The ML falls into the category of cliche cold, possessive, a**hole, tops that most fall into. I'd be fine with this if the plot made something interesting out of it but no... he was just bland and forgettable. He does actually have some cute moments with the MC and I would be lying if I said they didn't have some chemistry. Most of the side characters are just ok, they feel like video game npc's.

One more aspect that really stood out was the authors blatant sexism. It's like this novel was written by an incel. I'm someone who tends to think the "women being villains in BL is bad" take is super cheesy but this is the first time I've seen genuine full on sexism. There's a difference between just having a female villain and having a whole ass arc dedicated to why it's physically impossible for woman to be good at video games. The author constantly throws out remarks about how superficial, airheaded, and weak all women are. It's not even offensive it's just weird.

What really made me mad though was the 6th and 7th arc. This novel follows a bunch of people that want to get revenge and a guy doing it for them. Sometimes the revenge really is earned,

Spoiler

such as in the video game arc where a girl outed the original host and drove him to su*cide because he had killed her video game character. Or when a guy r*ped, abused, dug out the original hosts eyes, and then left him to die.

[collapse]

but other times it's really not. Some of the worst punishments are given to the least deserving people. The arc most guilty of this is the apocalypse arc. Even though the original host and the person he wants revenge on literally want the same thing and neither of them do anything the other doesn't, the "villain" gets one of the worst punishments in the whole series.

Spoiler

while the girl who literally doxed and pushed someone to su*cide only gets broken up with and gets to live a mediocre life. The 16 year old who was just insecure about whether or not his family loved him got disowned and thrown in the literal apocalypse so he had to suffer alone for the rest of his life unable to kill himself.

[collapse]

The worst part is that the novel acts as if your supposed to agree that this child got exactly what was coming to him and that the original host was a pure angle that truly never did anything wrong. <<less

It's a really good story! I always like fast wears with a decent back story- which this certainly has. The missions themselves are pretty much what you expect (think QWFOD) with the whole looking for your lover while completing the mission thing but the backstory makes the actual situation just a bit different. Either way, it's quite the enjoyable read. The MC is reminds me a lot of Yun Sheng from QWFOD: a good balance of shameless and prideful. He'll certainly work hard to complete his mission and is often... more>> strong enough to do so alone, but doesn't mind relying on his man to do it for him. Why waste energy, right? And he will tease and/or "train" his lover at times which makes for a very fun read. Aside: for y'all who like this type of MC, I recommend "Scattering IQ to the Male Protagonist" because the MC is basically this but a level higher- purposely teasing his lover to the point where he snaps just because he thinks his blackened look will be "cute" XD.

Long story short, I strongly recommend it for anyone who loves the transmigration system genre (even though there are SO many lol) or as a good starting point if you want to try reading some of these novels. <<less

This novel's suited for your quick fix of transmigration; solid translations, a likeable MC, and decent enough chemistry between the two main male characters.

There's really only one nit pick, but it's large enough to take off two stars.

Spoiler

How slimy the ML is in the first two arcs. In the first arc he basically steamrolls over whatever the MC says. Although I get that he's supposed to be a villain, in the second arc, he basically brings home a child to groom into his lover (not the mc) or whatever. He also almost r*pes the said near-lover.

If Quickly Wear the Face of the Devil & King's Game had a baby...

OK there's two camps: you either hate it or you love it. There's no gray area. Those who hate it have a bone to pick with the main CP & plot. Whether it's the lack of gravitas with the two main characters or the numerous plot holes that raid the story, to that camp- this novel is mediocre right to its very core. If you want a way better QT novel with the same elements, go read... more>> Quickly Wear the Face of the Devil. If you want to read a novel where the MC is incessantly pampered by the universe, go read King's Game.

I fall into the "I actually enjoyed it" camp. Yes, there are very obvious negatives with this novel; I see & acknowledge them. But honestly, I barely even used my brain when reading this. Call it my guilty pleasure. It hits all of my right zones & I quite like the fact that it is reminiscent of QWtFoD. The MC is pretty bland. The only unique quality is that he's pretty apathetic (altho I feel now that's more common in QT novels..). ML...I mean where can you go wrong with being an alpha male through & through. Some may be already fed up by the typical, universe-adored, OP male lead whose looks could demolish empires BUT I'm still unabashedly hooked. Call me an idealistic moron because I CONCUR. The plot, on the other hand, is mediocre. If you chose to read this novel, I hope that you do on the basis of just wanting to see face-slaps, dog blood plots, & a heap of dog food. God forbid you read it for the plot!

TL;DR bad plot, good fluff & dog food! Read this if you want a quick fix after reading QWtFoD. Don't have high expectations pls

I might change my rating depending on how the last 6 chapters fare... not like it'll make a difference lmao. A 4* since I'm biased af <<less

This a great story. It started like any other system transmigration story. Only it wasnt a system but a master-host relationship. The "system" being the master and the MC as host.

Spoiler

The master is actually the ML. Each of his avatars in the worlds where the host was sent, fell in love with the host.

The master could not believe that he will fall in love with another because he only loves one person who has already died. But it turns out, that the MC is the reincarnation of that beloved person. The ML only realized before going to the third arc.

[collapse]

The phasing is pretty good, with only 10 to 15 chapters per arc.

Spoiler

This is happy ending. The ending is very satisfying.

[collapse]

I definitely recommend this. Hopefully the translator would persevere in completing the translation because it is worth it! <<less

I normally don't give reviews because reviews are such a chore, but I have no choice. I've recently been rereading quick transmigration bls I read some time ago and I believe I must have simply glanced through them for me to have been able to complete most of them and this work is included in that most. I cannot believe just how shallow this work is, chinese writers are notorious for beauty this, peach eyes that, but this is just, nah. I detest the ml, in the first arc, he's... more>> like a rapist and in the second, he becomes a pe*ophile. He's overbearing, possessive and it's almost like mc's opinion doesn't matter. As for the MC, I don't detest him, but I don't like him either. He's bland, his opinions and thoughts are really biased in a disgusting way which reflects the author's own tendencies. Also, the descriptions in the book are long, they always have to emphasize why the MC is a white lotus, why he's doing this, how much pain and suffering, blah blah blah, boring. And let's not forget the sexism. As a feminist, I read bl just to enjoy love and a bit of smut, not to read about someone's preconceived notions about females and how villainous, shallow and spiteful women are. Puhlease, if I didn't know any better I'd say author was a spiteful gay man who got his crush taken by a lady. <<less

Romeo and Juliet meets Pygmalion. While the story is not perfect, I love our MC here the most out of any QT novels. Why? He has such SELF-AWARENESS. He knows he's heartless, but knows when he's fallen in love. And shows it!

---

Chapter 1-15: school + rebirth arc

... more>> Chapter 16-25: cultivation arc

Chapter 26-36: historical/ancient arc

Chapter 37-51: gaming arc

Chapter 52-59: puppy + ancient + transmigration/system arc

Chapter 60-76: zombie apocalypse + rebirth arc

Chapter 77-86: ancient + rebirth arc

Chapter 87-99: interstellar + transmigration arc

Chapter 100-109: immortal realm arc

Chapter 110: extra

Definitely don't skip the 7th arc; it's filled with hilariously great dialogues and maybeee a lot of ML vinegar. <<less

It’s Ok

I personally enjoyed some of the arks and I found my self laughing like a witch at some of interactions (I have a terrible sense of humor) but their are some obvious issues.

Let’s start with good points.

... more>> Some of the worlds are really enjoyable to read. I enjoyed the interstellar world and that it was not heavily involved with another or mechas. That idea was refreshing to read.

I also enjoyed lost of the ancient worlds which were generally enjoyable to read.

I like the descriptions of the surroundings. I was able to envision the surroundings clearly and enjoyed it.

The flow is of the story generally feels stable and unrushed.

Some of the side characters were fun to read. The reactions of the subordinates in the gaming world was fun to read and I wish I saw more.

That’s it, that’s all the good things I have to say. Now let’s get onto the mediocre/bad

All the modern day arcs s**ked. Is explain the brother one later on. But the gaming world was just bad.

The author was obviously sexist. Even I as a guy managed to see it. Which means it was very obvious. Non of the females were portrayed as good people. They were protracted as weak, sleazy, scheming and uncaring people. Either that or they were maids. Which is messed up

The MC is bland. He is just bland. I can’t even remember the color of his hair and I think his eyes are blue. I just have no idea. He skin is white (because of course it is, he managed to turn into a white dog as an reincarnation, buy has yet to be tuned into a person with a darker skin tone or a female) and extremely pale. That’s all I got. I have no idea about his description. That’s partially my fault. Their so many descriptions for each original character that at the final ark I have no idea what he looked like. I actually liked the MC personality in the start. Sure he was a faker and put on a mAsK in front of others. But it didn’t stop him from fearing death or having feelings. The fact that he looked so unapologetically innocent that even the nuns in his church forgave him was cool. He wanted to live, and was competent at it. He seemed to have a “interesting” back story as a before he was shoved into the reincarnation thing
Spoiler

at least more interesting than the current one we have. The whole he was an orphan with no feelings tripe has been done to death. The fact that we have no information on when the MC lived with no memories of his “past life” is extremely disappointing. When he a said he lived in the church I was fully prepared for a story of a half sadistic MC who just want to live and lovecraft like god and/or childhood church friend MC as they both try to simply find a way live. But I put my hopes too high and it turned out to be and stereotypical Chinese martial arts type (not that lovecraftian like romance hasn’t been done before it’s jus I thought it would be interesting in a quick transmigration setting were Christian type magic wasn’t the only type with various culture existing)

I remember that the MC had a small conflict when he realized that the ML like a part of him before and the fact that he recognized that the person he was before with memories compared to the person he now was very, very cool. Yet the author does nothing with it)

[collapse]
buy nothing happened. Now the MC just a romance partner

The ark I hated the most was the first ark

Spoiler

in the fist ark the ML is the brother of the original body. Yes, the original body was adopted. But keep in mind that the two where introduced to each other at an early age and treated each other as siblings. They had some sort of connection. The brother, a person of power, went to sexually harass a minor. The original character was 17. What’s even worse is that the ML started to sexually harass the child once the child became obedient. The cherry on top? The original owner died by su*cide because he was betrayed and r*ped by people he trusted. The fact that the brother did basically that yet got no repercussion is not good. Even the MC when faced with this reaction was fear. Let me get you spell it out to you. This genius of an author wrote the first romantic experience between the ML and the MC was in fact fear. Before then backing down and the MC suddenly falling in love with him for no reason. He fell in love with him when the ML was blocking his path and he could of died. He is obviously not better than the rest of the cast. Why does he get a free pass? It’s not even like they couldn’t of had a sweet relationship. They way they interacted in the final ark was sweet. Why now is the ML a hypocritical bigot that screams I am scum gong.

[collapse]

Oh but the ML obvious predatory actions don’t need here. Funnily enough it appears right after the first ark

Spoiler

In the second ark it is revealed that the ML took an orphaned child and raised it to f*ck it. Like don’t get me wrong the word “love” was used like a plaything and thrown back and fourth but then if you look at who the ML character is in the ark. He brought the child to f*ck it when it became older. Was the child a bit of a prick for betraying the whole sect, yes. Was it cruel that the child betrayed the ml. No it was not. I would of rather have the child betray the ML then they ever getting together. Because the child was forced into a situation were an adult, a person in a position of power, was abusing your it. Thank god the child was a bit*h enough to not even have an ounce of gratitude for having his life saved of being treated like a prince for his whole life. Because the ML would of abused that like the manipulative sh*t he is. The ML has a whole uncle vibe to him. He automatically expected a person he saved to love him and submit to him like a c*cksleve. No, no it doesn’t work that way. If I didn’t love you that’s it. The very most I would do would be what the original owner would have done and be a loyal dog. You can’t force love no matter what you have done to the person. I’m sorry but that’s life. Also you groomed a bloody child so that’s immediately -1000 points

[collapse]

Let’s not forget that children form as young as ten are reading this. Even children at my age able to be effected by this. This isn’t something we should be romanticize as most people are not like a MC and are creeps.

Oh and as an added bonus remember the white dog the MC turned into. Yeah it was implied that the ML would f*ck it.

I don’t think I need to describe the ML any longer. Because apart from these distinctive traits he is also as bland stereotypical obsessive ml. I know less about his appearance than the MC..

That’s it. Honestly it’s not a bad read. Just skip the first ark and the book stops being and extremely concerning one to a church extremely mediocre read with read flags <<less

It's pleasant. It may not be ground-breaking, but it's pleasant for reading, it doesn't overcomplicates things, it fully covers the questions it poses: why MC was like that but changes, how are they connected with ML, why ML acted the way he did at first, why are they travelling worlds. And it does that along the way of the story, sometimes their world being connected with the plot that is happening within the arc itself (several final arcs).

Personally, I found its' charm in simplicity and playing with most common cliche... more>> tropes:

  • Fated lovers. Pretty soon into reading you understand that they're fated lovers. One forgot about everything. One is searching. Reaching the final arc proves this point. Hence "Holding onto my man". Thus their feelings develop rather quickly.
  • OP-ness. Although MC later comes across as OP character, but it's the type when MC is shown as pretty cool, charming person. His silliness comes only when he hangs like a koala from ML. But honestly, I didn't dislike his open view and lack of coyness, he jumps right into romance, he's very active about it, because that's his man and he loves him a lot, he doesn't play schemes or pretends like many MCs do.
  • Fixing the plot. It gets especially good in later part. Because what MC does is not only the residual wish of original owner, but later it affects the entire world he transmigrates to itself, which came as a nice twist. Some arcs have really interesting twists tbh.
If you read at least more than 10 QT novels (not only FOD lol, like that bs doesn't need to be mentioned every effing time there is other QT novel ahaha), you realize advantages and disadvantages of these stories and if you end up loving QT you start to have preferences, Holding onto my man satisfies many of mine: the way MC is, the way ML isn't a dick, how it doesn't ubruptly ends with lackluster ending, how their final world nicely integrated within previous arcs, that it has twists that can surprise me, charming MC who doesn't play games with ML or treats him like a lap dog, but loves him deeply. That's why I have a really favorable impression of it. <<less

There are some interesting worlds in this one and the MC/ML backstory isn't too boring, but ultimately it's not that different from many other QT (quick transmigration) novels. I highly recommend [Don't Pick Up Boyfriends From the tr*shbin] as it has much better writing and more original storylines.

That said, the entertainment value of this one isn't bad. I did find the original meeting love story done pretty well (it wasn't summarized) and the ending was pretty dramatic/intense. Maybe because I skimmed some parts, but the overall rebirth/system/tasks wasn't really explained... more>> very well...

especially why the ML took over the system space and did those things when it wasn't part of his job description or his skills in the first place. Additionally, the author would sometimes mention the original owner of the body and where their spirit would go, but it's pretty glossed over at the ending.

Spoiler

I enjoyed the ancient world storyline with the two lovers who died for each other (though some of that storyline was a bit contrived/tragic because of the reborn guy who didn't trust his lover enough...)

I find the character to be interesting in that we can see that he is a very logical thinker and knows how to use what he has wisely. Gonna wait for more so as to give a better review. <<less

Honestly, I debated between giving this either three or two stars. It's so weird. I'm usually the one ends up agreeing with most of the reviews, not disagreeing...

First of all, this strikes a similar resemblance to Quickly Wear the Face of the Devil, but the plot lacks one essential element: it's all summary, no description. And I know, I know I shouldn't be comparing to FOD, but I can't stop. First of all, it's not like details are entirely excluded: details will be included about the palace the Gu Bai... more>> is staying in, or the cave he's exploring—and I mean, that's nice, but I wish she actually did the more important details. For example, what made the MC so skilled in gaming, or how did he fight? None of that was described at all. It was more like, "due to his martial arts skills, he quickly defeated the enemy." See? It's all fricking summarization. I felt the worst part of such vague, unsatisfying summaries, was that it continued for the whole fricking plot. I want how awesome my MC is to be described, not claimed. And because of such summarization, the plot was just way too short every arc. And predictable, not to mention.

Which leads me to my next topic. Must everyone be bad except for the MC and Ml? Yes, in this novel. And the worst part was that, they ended up being cannon fodders all due to simple misunderstandings that could be resolved. And if not, they're just portrayed as vicious, mean human beings. It wasn't like this in the beginning, and I was really excited. But legit, as the story progressed, I couldn't help pointing out flaws like this as I read.

Its not like I hated this novel. I was grinning at a fool like times.. It's just not worthy of being five stars. Nuff said. I mean, the romance was cute? But it was so repetitive, with that instant love gimmick, it soon lost some of its spark too... <<less

My favorite world hopping/quick-wear novel! Better than QWTFOTD, in my opinion, and for many reasons!

For one, the story is tied up by one encompassing narrative which was executed organically and distinguishes itself from other similar stories.

The worlds and the stories are also very original and complex. The characters in the worlds are well-written and have their own motivations and character development. They don't remain static and undergo change, it was refreshing to see the motivations and changes of the "villains" get explained and we get to see things from their... more>> perspective. They're not just flat characters and their actions are done for reasons that resonate with their own stories.

Some of the worlds have some transmigrator or reincarnator MCs thrown in, and although they take the similar revenge path, we actually get to see their thoughts and emotions fleshed out, often leaving the readers to sympathize with their own descent to hubris. It's like reading a mary sue transmigration/reincarnator story from another perspective.

The pacing is perfect. Never dragged on or too fast. Author spends just the right amount of chapters for every world without wasting time for indulgent trope scenes like shopping or training or being praised by everyone.

As for the MC and ML, they're both one of my favorite pairings, not because of the dog food, but because of how they are both complex, especially MC. MC is like an AI who is learning how to be human as he goes along different worlds, which ties up with the encompassing narrative of the novel. I like how despite claiming heartlessness and cunning, MC is actually more pragmatic than cruel, capable of kindness more than he thinks he is. He's not cruel unless you cross a moral line, and even then, only throws schemes back to their sources. He doesn't treat other characters like objects. He gives the mission targets of in the worlds chances to make a different choice. He treats human life with respect, again a reference to his real identity. He's calm and collected, but never heartless.

As for ML, we see him most of the time as his avatars from the worlds, and what I love the most about him is how his avatars have his qualities with some exaggerated characteristics, so he is never truly the same in every world. The only similarities they bear with each other is their love, respect, and devotion towards MC, which manifests in diff. Ways. More importantly, he lets MC do his sh*t and never forces his own hand on MCs plans and schemes. He supports him while allowing him to do what he wants to do in order to accomplish his world missions. He is not without his hubris, of course, but he doesn't claim to be anything more than what he is.

To sum it up, it's definitely a great read and a refreshing face slapping novel that keeps its moral bottomline. <<less

Ahhh this is like the first multiple world story that I actually completed IN CHINESE (my parents would be so proud that I'm even reading Chinese...)

Usually I get bored of the multiple world story after a while but I really enjoyed this. There's no annoying system, there's a general direction MC has to go but no specific way he has to handle it. I enjoyed the way he solved each problem. The worlds were also rather unique, the one I found most surprising (in a good way) is the... more>> arc of the abused protagonist in the historical setting. Especially loved the way the MC wrapped that up.

There's an actual overarching plot that I wasn't really expecting but I liked how it was all explained in the final arc. And that ending was so sweet, I wanted more tbh.

Overall, really like how the ML could be someone related to MC's job or totally unrelated yet every single time he's someone really powerful. Also, it's not a one-sided sort of relationship since after the 2nd arc, MC starts to chase ML.

Overall, worth reading this in Chinese (and that's saying a lot). <<less
