I’ve reincarnated as the reverse harem game’s villainess, the one and only adopted daughter of the ducal Eckart family.

But the difficulty just has to be the worst!

Everything I do will only lead me to death.

I must be paired with one of the main male characters from the heroine’s harem before the ‘real daughter’ of the duke family appears!

Two older brothers who always pick a fight with me on every little thing.

The insane crown prince whose route will always lead to my death.

‘I only see the heroine and no one else’s wizard, and also her loyal s*ave knight, too!

‘First, let’s take some of them which I see no hope in, out of the list!’

“I didn’t know my place up until now. From now on, I’ll live as quiet as a mouse so you wouldn’t care the slightest bit!

But why do their interests in me keep on rising every time I draw the line?!

I REALLY LOVE THIS NOVEL. (˘ ³˘) ♥

Do not be swayed by bad reviews, you should try to read the story first before you decide to continue it or not.

Penelope's life is so f hardcore, seemingly relatable to real life. There was a premise that wrong choice leads to her death.

Her situation is... ... more>>
Spoiler

eating a moldy bread, being prick by a needle everyday, verbally abused by her brothers, neglected by her adopted father, mocked and bullied by their house servants, etc.

The original Penelope is actually such a sweetheart. She just want a home and family who could loved her. Everyone said that she is crazy, a woman who dares to point her bow to anyone but... in the Eckart's mansion, she couldn't even complain to her father that she was bullied, that her food was tampered, even if she did, she would not be believed by her father. She endured the years of anguish, yearning for familial love, only to be repaid with hate and distrust. And now, each one of them wants to apologized to her? Can they take responsibility for the damages of their mistakes? Too late, she's gone.

[collapse]

It makes me just want to cry, how heartfelt the way that the author tell the story. It's not the typical Cinderalla or Mary Sue story where the will of the world follows the wish of the protagonist, in fact, it's the opposite.

Do not be mislead by the fact that like an otome game, with a fixed scenario, there would only be two outcomes. Instead, the unexpected reactions of the characters made it interesting to read more. They have depth, almost similar to humans. They have their reasons, pros and cons, they have something that don't want to show you, and most importantly! They can change.

- - -

You know what? Until before the 80th chapter, I thought Callisto is the worst ML, but I slowly realized, besides pointing a sword at MC, he really didn't do anything else (compared to her step-brothers).

He saved her during the times that she needs it.

Ahhh, it's really hard whose ship I will support on... <<less

When I read this expecting a normal villainess noble girl novel, surprise~ the overall tone is like I play a thriller survival game instead. LoL

Yes, in the novel MC can see favorable rating of the capture target like a normal otome game but as you continue reading you will wonder is this really favorable rating or survival point instead. Each of the capture target are land mine. I said LAND MINE. (Important point must be said twice) Even the most normal one is suspicious.

I did not expect much about romance... more>> at this point in the story now. Instead I have expectation HOW CAN MC SURVIVE ALL THIS!? Really? Please tell me you play an otome game not a survival game. LOL

This have more thriller than It Seems Like I Got Reincarnated Into The World of a Yandere Otome Game. The similar novel I can think of is Death progress bar (BL though). It super similar about the original game/novel isn't tell anything deep in the plot and there is survival point MC can see, in this case death progress bar. Another similar thing is the shitty past about the original MC's family life. Death progress bar has more shocking factor in the family past though.

Actually, for now the ship that look possible and impossible at the same time is the sorcerer marquise. <<less

I can't believe how insanely good this novel is.

When I first started reading it I thought it was going to play out like all other novels of this type, the being transmigrated into the villainess type but I was proven wrong.

... more>> Nothing about this novel is predictable, and it just makes me love it even more for the suspense of what might happen next.

I really recommend reading this, you will not be disappointed as the translation is very clean with very few, almost no mistakes and the whole mood around the novel is very exciting and unpredictable. <<less

I truly love this story and think it's one of the best isekai otome novels out there. It's far more serious than most other novels in the genre -- in fact, I'd describe this more as a horror/thriller than as a romance or comedy, given how often the poor heroine is abused and encounters deathly situations -- but there are some moments of great comedy and irony as well. The plot is well done so far and I often found myself on the edge of my seat, wondering what's going... more>> to happen next.

And Penelope, our poor but persistent and clever heroine, is honestly one of the best in the genre. She's not a Mother Theresa in the making like Doctor Elise or a funny gotta-love her protagonist like Bakarina. Instead, she's a traumatized but intelligent young woman who is desperately trying to survive in a world where everyone seems ready to betray, abuse, or even kill her on a moment's nice. And the fact that she's so proactive and intelligent -- albeit still human enough to stumble once in a while -- makes her incredibly endearing and thrilling to follow. She's the main star of this show and you can't help but want her to not only survive but thrive in the crazy world she's in.

Also, there is a recent manwha based on this story that features absolutely gorgeous art. I would suggest you check out both the story and the manwha! <<less

The villainess I honestly very pitiful due to her treatment but why is she so dense to others intentions and feelings? But its pretty understandable coming her experiences in her prior and current life.

Hope she finally understands them later down the track, but im not saying she has to forgive and forget

The first 3/4th part of the novel was really really great. I even nearly cried at one point. I love the FL and the way she continues to persevere again and again. The translation is pretty bad a lot of times which is disappointing bcuz this is an absolutely amazing novel

Spoiler

The rest 1/4th of the novel is all about the end of the world and what not which really did not set well with me but I was okay with it. In my opinion, this would have become my favourite novel if the author ended it at Penelope's su*cide scene.

The story is really enjoyable even if the MC ends up being kind of a hypocrite (no character development to speak of either), I still like readin about her.

The big problem with this novel is simply that the TL quality sadly makes it unreadable starting from the prologue; convince yourself. You are legitimately better off reading MTL.

There's a lovely story hiding in here, I'm sure; one of pain, and retribution, and grim satisfaction.

Towel City's translation, however, is absolute dreck. From the first chapter it appears passable, if frequently frustrating due to failures in basic grammar. Enjoy it while it lasts. It's as good as it gets.

Never mind any notion of consistency in tone, as that is the least of its various issues. Whole segments are excised, vital scenes vanish into thin air. The language deteriorates into nonsense a scant third of the way through, by my... more>> reckoning. It is machine translation at its worst and most soulless, an unremitted assault on English, on Korean, and on good storytelling at large.

Run, don't walk, from this interpretation, and wait for Yen Press to do the job. <<less

like the story but I can't honestly continue. I really do appreciate given translation and I'm grateful to be able read atleast something. but again, great part of the story was lost within those same translations and thus don't make sense at all. For instance in chapter hundred something they used the term dong dong🥲?? like what does that even mean??

it's such a shame... would have loved to read the rest of it.

So I would like to say a few things about this novel.

First of all, I feel the need to mention that you gys (people that are riting the reviews) are exagerating a bit.

And thats for two reasons: first, and personally the more important, its the fact that this isssss a novel, not reality and much less, not something that will be flawess. Thats why I think that you gys are taking this to much serious and to an personal side, wich is a little bit troublesome. I cant say that... more>> this novel doesnt have any errors, and as i, myself, am riting a review that will have my opinion in those cases, I cant talk much. But even so, I think that just the fact of this being a novel, its enouth to prove that im right. Like, it is made to entertainiment and, erros, things that we discord, opposit opinions, and even nonsence parts in this novel are inevitable. So I think we shoudnt say that were compltely "desapointed", and say that we woudnt have read if it was now, because thats the autor work in there, and even with flaws we have to respect it. (That doesnt mean that we cant have our own opinions, im just saying that in cases like that its better to keep it to our selves)

second of all: as we are all different persons and hold different opinions, sometimes in some cases, we cant say who is right because it is a matter of opinion.

Like when people say that they didnt like the fact of penelope unchanged personality throuht the start to the end, because supposly it means that she didnt mature at all in the time we were accompainig her story

well, there are people who state that Penelope didnt change and they didnt like that, while there have another bounch of people saying that they liked the fact that she didint changed because it shows that she is true to her self

and it those exist another people that say that say that she changed

of course thats just an exemple to reforce my opinion: you cant take these kind of things to heart and ressent it because everybody as different visions of the same situation

Now talking about the novel, honestly I expected more after I read the manhga, but as I said I wont let that affect my overall opinion. I think that the plot and history itself are amazing. The history as a good contruction, and its entertaining. I would change some facts, like some attitudes of Penelope, that I personally didnt like, but thats all

i cant say I liked every character but even so I didnt particurally hated anyone

i recomend this novel

F.t (forgot to tell) if posible read the manhga first, because I think its better realised there than here <<less

Besides the translation, I really liked this. Personally, I'm satisfied with the MC's subtle character growth and the ML's redemption arc. It's just a very slow burn.

The ending isn't completely happy; there are regrets and bittersweet parts. The MC looses things from her mistakes, as do other characters. It was satisfying to see a complex situation with sympathetic antagonists who aren't let off for being ignorant or for caring about the person they hurt.

If you're willing to skim some bad MTL, you should read this if you like:

1, Lovesick and... more>> obsessive MLs, or yandere characters

2, Seeing the female lead win against yandere tropes and mercilessly tr*sh unwanted pursuers + demand the freedom she wants

3, Slow burn power fantasies about making abusers pathetically repent and despair that they won't be forgiven*

*Note: For some characters she eventually decides to let them back into her life, depending on if they'd make her happy in the present. <<less

Interesting read! Instead of simply trying to get love flags, the MC has to make sure she avoids death flags. Right from the start we can see how the character she's possessed was treated in her home.

The character development is so good!! We can see various characters and their backstories and how they grow into different people than they initially were as the story progresses. I really like novels with good character development and I can confidently say that this one has it! (Although some characters developed in a way... more>> that makes me want to punch them... but that's still character dev so...)

I personally liked how Reynold changed the way he treated her. He was the most annoying one at first lol but at the end he became a cute tsundere in my eyes.

I've seen some people mention Eclise as well. His character is definitely questionable from Penelope's pov. I can't say much about him aside from how I feel bad towards him at the end.

Some reviews talked about how they didn't like who the endgame ML is but for me I liked it a lot. I think it's been hinted at since the start too? Very subtly?

Spoiler

That ML is probably the only one that the MC didn't treat like a conquest of the game right from the start. So I think that that was the hint? Also, imo he was also the one that didn't approach her with some sort of ulterior motive. He just became interested in her because of how she acted towards him. MC also didn't at all try to raise his interest rate and it just raised on its own as they spent time together.

[collapse]

What I like about this is that the people who treated her badly had gotten what they deserved albeit they got off pretty easily. Then again it's not really a revenge story and more of a survival romance. Also, I noticed that even though towards the end, when the attitude her family and the people around her changed, she didn't simply accept it and was skeptical. MC acted in a realistic way towards them and made sure to let them know their boundaries. I like how she didn't simply accept their apologies and was reluctant to be involved with them. THE ENDING WAS DESERVED. Especially for her families, not only in her new life but in her past life as well.

Spoiler

In a side story, I was happy to have read the part where she briefly returned to where her original body was and saw her old family one last time. MC gave them a piece of her mind before completely leaving. Maybe for some she might seem cold towards them but in the first place they didn't give her a good reason to be warm towards them right? Even the reason why she ended up dead is because they couldn't give her a proper house despite having more than enough money to at least house her someplace safe. Her first family was s*upid. The second one was s*upid too but they gradually got smarter haha.

[collapse]

The plot is good and the character development is even better. I think everyone in this story clearly showed us their flaws and showed behaviors that either overcame those flaws or just let it be. Everyone in the story had changed in some way than from how they were when the story started and I really like that. The pacing for the romance is a bit slow? It's not slow for me but maybe it's because I don't mind slowburns. The build up is great imo. The ending was good (at least for me). I am especially satisfied with the last side story which I've mentioned in a spoiler above. <<less

The translation is as awful as it could be. It look more like mtl, not the real person's doing.

I cannot judge the plot, because it was a torture to read till the 80th chapter. Manga looks 100 times more appealing in comparison with such a translation.

Overall - relationships have no foundation with out of thin air affection between MC and her harem. Abruptly liking her, abruptly hating her. All the dialogs are cringy and sounds like nonsense.

It could be a passable read, but, oh my, that translation ruined the whole... more>> experience <<less

I finished the novel within 2 days and I have to say the plot is very engaging and there is not a moment where I felt that the novel was boring. If you are looking for something light-hearted or something to destress, this is not the story you should be reading. It is quite heart-wrenching to see all the psychological abuse and negligence that the female lead has to go through and how it evoked the painful memories she had from her past life.

And once things start to look like... more>> they are brightening up, boom, the author springs up with a new surprise.

Also, this is not a romantic novel as the plot does not really put emphasis on the mc's romantic relationships, but instead, the romance seems to serve as a decoration to the main story which is about how she tries to survive and live.

It is important to note that because of her 2 lives where she did not receive any love or affection, she has become a person who has lost the ability to love and forge connections and relationships with other people. It is a sad thing not only for her but also for people who love her dearly. Thus if you hope to see sweet and fluffy moments between the MC and her ML and them being a sweet couple after they kicked the villian's ass, nope not happening. And what makes the situation worse that the ML grew up without love, so he is a person that actually needs a lot of love and affection as he could easily have anxiety and feel insecure about their relationship.

And to think that in a novel about the mc's and her 5 capture targets, the characters I like the most was the mc's maid and her father, the duke. The male characters other than the ML are not attractive in personality and since this is not a manga, they also lost their only strength which is their looks, so it is hard to fall or even feel sorry for them.

But no worries, since the spotlight is always on the MC. <<less

They were brainwashed so it doesn't count? Ok, let's say you are being hit by your drunk father/husband/friend but normally he loves you a lot, would you trust this person, would you understand and forgive? Just like that? It's her choice if she wants them in her life and I am happy that she isn't hungry for affection (a lot of people end badly because of that). She didn't change because a person changes when they need to change (it the matter of necessity) who she is helped her survive... more>> for years so in her view she doesn't need to change who she is, it's that simple.

I love this story because every character has depth, I can argue as if they where real people. I wished for different ending but life is always a disappointment anyway. <<less

There's a big chunk of the story that was not properly or decently translated. It somehow led to some confusion but still appreciate the translators who worked hard.

I agree with some of the prev reviews. I also feel conflicted. Surely, there were a lot of parts and scenes that I have enjoyed but as for the characters I feel like Callisto was the only one who went through a successful character development.

I am honestly disappointed with Penelope. I know she was emotionally and physically (not really black and blue type... more>> of physical) abused both from her real / previous world and the Penelope-universe. I also know that her family situation in both worlds were kind of similar in some ways that's why she feel disgusted and hateful but I also feel that she's always misunderstanding things. Whether it's the cause of abuse or not I think she had plenty of room to grow as a character and start to "actually" start asking proper questions related to the situation and not just constantly bringing up her grudge. She's close minded tbh. And her thoughts about the whole "game" situation is confusing.

Most of the time she thinks and treats everyone as mere characters and that she must finish it the same way as a game in order to go back—even until the end.

At the ending part:

Spoiler

I don't understand why she broke her relationship with the Ekharts at the pretext of 'if this was Penelope' type of shit. She's always always always going back and forth between wholly accepting that she's now Penelope & how she's going to live as her now on AND also thinking it's okay to reject some aspects of the prev Penelope bec it's now convenient in her situation. I really felt frustrated every time she confronts the Ekharts especially the Duke. I really think that she could've handled them better. F*ck Derrick but the Duke and Rennald were genuinely sorry and trying to establish a family relationship. It's okay not to forgive but ugggh isn't it fine to get a long especially since both didn't really inflicted abuse on her when she possessed Penelope? And that they, same as everyone else, always have negative impression whenever she messes up bec that's what the prev Penelope always does. It's not that easy to suddenly change their perception just because of a few improved encounters & decisions compared to years of rebellion and spite. I mourn for the broken relationship with the Duke 😭

[collapse]

There were also inconsistent details along the story and I'm not gonna point it out now. If you were not bothered by it then I guess they're just trivial inconsistencies.

About Eclise:

Spoiler

NGL, I was initially rooting for this guy but dude suddenly became creepy and shit. Sure Penelope did some batsh*t sweet as f*ck act that drove him mad. But I also think that it's part of his character or personality that drove him to think that way. From the start he knew and even admitted that Penelope doesn't love him and that she's only using him. Let's just say that he's built as the obsessive and possessive type plus her mad love (due to HER conditioning and act btw) plus that btch's brainwashing. Til the end he protected her but he's still creepy. I just wish that he didn't go through that whole mad episode and was able to compose himself before it has gone late. I was frustrated for his potential and personality the whole time.

[collapse]

Anyway Emily is the best supporting character along with Cedric 😂 HAHAHAHA girly really did that. Butbi wish Penelope kept her til the end : ( <<less
