(I apologize in advance for my English, I'm not as good at writing as I am at reading)

I liked this story so much that now I don't know what to do with myself. It evoked so many emotions in me: joy, sadness, anxiety, breakdown and finally relief. I'm glad I found this story and I recommend it wholeheartedly...

and now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to cry in a corner

Enjoyed the reading. Well written, nicely translated.

The novel shows a more realistic version of what happens when two people from different social level/background/personality get together, specially when there is no love involved in a marriage of convenience.

Spoiler

ML is a rational and realistic person. He is a good person, but is calculative. His every move is calculated with lose and gain in mind. Initially he got attracted to FL because she was quiet, beautiful and harmless. He never intentionally harmed or put the FL in a disadvantage. He tried to protect FL in his own way as good as he could, but as a rational person he didn't know how to or didn't want to deal with FL emotional expectation. Instead he overestimated her and thought that she would be able to cope with the issue by herself.

FL is an emotional and stubborn person. She is initially naive, but she is not an idiot. She knew ML was not in love with her when they got married, but she got in love with him and started having emotional expectations from him. She was left practically alone since ML was always busy and didn't know about her emotional burden, and got into depression when found out how lacking she was, specially when people compared with ML's ex wife.

I was really expecting a lot because I loved CIBIYB, but the writing of this really didn't surpass it's predecessor. It was still an enjoyable ride as the chapters before their marriage were well executed, I also loved the dialogues the couples had. I just got bored a bit because the MLs thoughts where getting redundant, and that even the tropes felt similar like: childhood friend inspiring jealousy inside MLs, naïve MCs, MLs possessive actions without tackling feelings, MCs running away, MLs chasing them, MCs life threatening accident and... more>> MLs getting that woke attitude L-O-V-E did exist hooblaaa. Although the ML here felt very much more realistic-
Spoiler

he often drank which became a problem sometimes (not the abusive kind guys haha), he was vulnerable at times, had realistic fights with the MC because he wasn't a perfect lover but MC had expectations since she loved him, and since the dude was a prince, MCs dependency on him was tackled where she felt lonely when he was busy so she decided to socialize and gain connections; although tbh ML was fine even if she didn't do that.

[collapse]
I would the say the bet was actually a trivial matter, but it did move the plot. Smut was good, didn't expect this much from an R-15 but I enjoyed their scenes very much. <<less

Ugh. I don't care if it's finished or not.
it was too painful.

props to the translator for the high quality work! So easy to read!

the story was very realistic, especially for the time period. A emotionally absent husband who only shows "affection" through materialistic means and a wife who tries to show her love and fulfill her "wifely duties"—all while craving for the same love.

The fact that MMC was so clueless about his wife's emotional state of mind... is not surprising but disappointing. It reminds of the farewell wife syndrome where emotionally neglected women ask for divorce from their husband who was clueless of the fact that their marriage is in shambles. And the reason they are clueless of because of deeply rooted misogyny. That men are weak or incapable of showing love and affection for their wives. That they're sole purpose is to protect and protect which the MMC took on. And that their "love language (sure if that's you call it) is only physical affection (sex) and not emotional support. Again, MMC wanting s*x after miscarriage is so low for me. That's why the story is so realistic and painful to read.

the reason I don't care for the ending is because I know there will be "happy ending" for HIM. she'll just compromise some way Cx women are expected to do that and she's not going to stop loving him even tho he's a ahole and the worst husband. Because fiction reader (including me) love happy ending where the couples are together.

But I like to think that she never forgave him and that she divorced his ass. That she found a affectionate and real man who is not egotistic as Bjore (I thinks that's how you spell it) and doesnt have the toxic masculinity that keeps him from loving his wife. I don't care for all the materialistic things he did for her. He was still cruel to her. I hope she's happy and he rots in hell. That would be a true HEA for me in this story.

One of my favorite novels because of how beautifully well-written it is and I love how the author conveyed the main characters' emotions so eloquently. The redemption arc on this one is amazing in my opinion. Also, the ML is not really a bad person. He is kind and righteous. However, he also isn't really the 'ideal' husband as he wasn't emotionally reliable, always prioritize his work and the interest of the nation over his wife's needs. It reminded me of a saying in most romance novels that 'A hero... more>> would sacrifice you to save the world, but a villain would sacrifice the world to save you'. So, honestly, the lines are blurred if you consider him as either a hero or a villain (especially once you get to know his and Gladys' secrets that the royal family was keeping). Also, at the latter part of the novel, I love how the author heartbreakingly portrayed that despite MLs cold demeanor, he isn't actually that strong and was just too afraid to face his guilt and emotions (there was this one chapter when he cried with FL as he finally expressed his anguish and pain in his heart behind his strong exterior). As for FL, I adore her so much. I think she is one of my favorite FLs because of how strong she is despite everything she's been through. Also, I like how she knows what she wants and loves her man but also knows her limit.

Both FL and ML are wonderfully written. I appreciate how 'human' or realistic they are. They are flawed and their marriage is flawed from the beginning. Their journey throughout their marriage and the way they slowly realized their own feelings and grow them are organic—it didn't feel forced. Special thanks to the translator because despite some few errors, I can confidently say this is one of the few unofficial well-translated light novels out there. Truly, I highly recommend it. <<less

This might be the first time I've ever written a review for a novel I need you all to know this one here is a gem. The FL has one of the best characteristics ever and the ML isn't that bad and I actually loved him as the novel progressed and was cheering for him. Give this a chance the writing is amazing!!!!

Y'know what? I don't get why this story has low reviews. This is the least problematic story (ironical) out of the 3 this author has written. ML starts out an a-hole but never abuses FL and his behaviour is actually justifiable given his past. He never forces FL, and actually goes through a redemption arc! Mistakes were made, sure. But this IS an angsty novel for god's sake!

It's my first time writing the review for anything in this forum. Pardon me for any misspelled and bad grammar.

I would like to give the biggest applause to the translator's team. You are the true main character/s of this series. Biggest props for you🥰🥰

Anyway, let's get into it.

After reading it so far, I come to conclusion that this kind of trope isn't my cup of tea. I read this series because I found it interesting and fresh from what I saw from the manhwa adaptation so far. I kind of... more>> see the potential for this series to become big, that's why I I keep reading it even though it's not my thing.
Spoiler

First thing first, there wouldn't be any significant characters' development for both ML and fl.

I believed Erna wouldn't be able to bring people to her side until the very end if the manuscript of Gladys' lover wasn't published. She's still clueless about how the high society works despite she's in it for more than a year and very dependent on ML regarding her social life. She can't stand for herself because of her background and being innocent and overly naive character she is. She's just kind of accepting everything that everyone thrown at her, and rotated her life around Bjorn (the ml). Which made me as a reader find it quite annoying.

Then, the ML isn't that bad, I kinda like his nonchalant side, which is a polar opposite from Erna. But, he is the epitome of emotionally absent partner with privilege of being handsome and rich. Like any other ML who has this very same desease, he'll chased after Erna and basically begged her to stay by himself after she decided to leave him behind.

Sure, there's some sweet scene here and there. But, before the redemption arc which is before she had a miscarriage and decided to leave Bjorn. He won't listened to Erna, didn't care with her needs, and saw her only as a decoration. Everytime Erna tried to communicate with him, he'll turned it into s3x scene everytime, which ruin the momentum and left Erna forgot to continue her questions/aspirations. These whole fiascos between them made me irked so bad.
[collapse]

For bottom line, if you are bored with marry sue and strong independent type female character, maybe you can try to read this one. The translation is great, the plot and execution are flawless, it follows popular trope:

A pumpkin girl went to the city> meet a handsome city man > get entangled in some ways > pumpkin girl falls in love > the city man doesn't care with the girl's feeling > conflict > miscommunication > even a bigger conflict > pumpkin girl leave the city man> the city man realized his feeling > tried to win back the pumpkin girl's love > ect ect.

You might get hooked into it despite you hate it. <<less

I think I wrote a review before Idk why it isn't showing but it was a meh it's readable but for me I didn't enjoy it I also read the raw chapter but I grasped a few things the MC is beyond naive she wanted to save her and her grandmas house and in this time women can not inherit titles so she goes and begs her father who she knows abandoned her to help her out in return she would stay with him for a year right...☺ Now okay... more>> I get it she's not very knowledgeable about nobles and this you know noble life even tho she is noble anyways she all of a sudden has to join society blah blah normal stuff at this point Idk she should've known something was up you just said stay a year you never said I had to work hard to do anything really anyways it took physical abuse to let her gain some sense the second ML is also a coward he didn't confess to her because she had a higher status than him even tho she kinda lived like a commoner and had nothing to do with nobles so he started avoiding her went to the big Scott to gain a name as a artist the ML I kinda like his character can't remember if he was poisoned for real or if it was figurative speaking but long story short he was crown Prince demoted to a duke because he was poisoned or something his ex wife is a nasty woman the whole city think he cheated and made her life a child Idk but she did something I can't say because that's like spoiler anyways his character personality for with his backstory Idk don't really like the MC she's embarrassimg and cringe too naive for my taste not realistic at all <<less

It was a good read. Made me cry every chapter. I dont usualy read as such, cuz of my anxiety but I came to know that this mild out of the other novels of the author. So that's why I tried reading it.

It wasn't perfect, but what wasn't? I like this kind of angst, mild and focus on the couple rather than outside stimulation. I thought it'll bore me if its only the two of them but overall it was a good read. Definitely recommended.

Characters development was written adequately. What... more>> irk me is the readers who expect everything would be perfect as soon as the character realizes that they are wrong. Expecting that characters would come around as soon as they realized what was wrong. No in reality it's a process. You wouldn't magically become a changed person. If that's happens either you almost die or dying. And most people who comes with this shocks become psychopathic.

Although ML is a jerk, I wouldn't blame it all to him after all that's what his norm. They are two different circumstances that somehow met. Of course it will clash. I wouldn't say FL is naive cuz nativity is annoying, she wasn't like that at all. She knows her bottom line and she did something about it. She tried and when she knew it wasn't enough she stops.

Spoiler

i suddenly remembered what he said to her about those decorations in her hat. I forgot the exact words but basically he said she should look like those things she created. Be pretty and decorative or something like that. I cried in that sht. Dmn if I waa her I would bawl in front of him. He's insulting something I really love to do. It would feel like I was worthless. Dmn it. ML is really a jerk.

[collapse]

Translations are good about 7/10 cuz of the wrong spelling and words every now and then. A little bit bothered but can be ignore.

Dont worry about the low ratings, it was low cuz it only has low reviews. So if your going to read this please leave a review. <<less

I started reading this novel after completed reading CEBIYB--as I considered it as the best Korean web novel. Honestly, It's hard to move on from Mathias-Leyla :). So, I have high expectation of Solche's second work.
The "Troublematic Prince" had same setting, somewhere in European fictional setting in the past century, with the same typical character 'a bad boy type vs naive girl', Cinderella syndrome. But the way the author-nim crafted the characters was good, the plot was also interesting, and the words and methapors she choosed was beautiful (here the credits also goes to translator in woopread who provided high quality translation).

At the beginning, plot seemed slow, but after few chapters the conflicts and characters development have captivated me. So "The Problematic Prince" is also another page turner novel. Compared to her previous novel--CEBIYB-- the male main was still better than Mathias (I mean less evil), and more lighter theme than CEBIYB for some point.

The story was about Herna Hardy-- a country girl from a fallen aristocrats, raised by her grandparents (The Baden) after separation of her parents. As her grandfather passed away, and no other direct male heir, Erna and her grandmother will loose their right of the property. Feeling afraid of loosing the only shelter, she looked for her father who lived in the capital. Unfortunately, her father was in the edge of bankruptcy. Her arrival lead him to have bad intention: sold off for marriage to gain monetary benefit.
Living in the city, Erna faced many cultural shock; grandeur buildings and infrastructures, amazing festive events, but full of evil characters and scandals. One of her biggest adventures scandals was with the Prince Bjorn (who was notorious as poisonous mushroom prince, if you eat you will die). Using Erna as the bet among young aristocrats, their love story began, as the main theme in this novel.
I'm still looking forward for the updates (it means I haven't completed reading the whole novel), yet I'm already in love with this novel.

The last, it's better you read it by your self :)

I honestly don't get the low rating. The author of this novel has a way with words. I am in love with this novel. The FL and ML are polar opposites and that's so exciting. It's very rare to see a writing like this. I loved CEBIYB (other work of dolche) . So I'm really really looking forward to next chapters.

This story is one of my favourite. It was really realistic, how the author portrayed their feelings, situations. It was really a good read.

Though I ML should have been a little bit sweeter to FL only then can I forgive him for his wrong doings. The miscarriage part really made me cry. But still I am happy with the ending.

This is the first story for which I have ever written any review. I don't know what to write about... But guys if you want to read this it's worth it.... more>> Go for it. <<less

Gave a 4 star because I enjoyed the story enough to complete it (im a simple person).

Classic arrogant tr*shy ML who's going to change because of love x innocent who's s*upid bc it's their first love fl.

The translation is good!! Writing style is also amazing. Kinda felt meh in the middle because the author was putting too many flowery words imo (edit: or is it from the translator?), still great tho. Nothing extravagant. Full of fluff and steamy scenes 😶‍🌫️ absolutely love the cute side stories. Just love and cute... more>> domestic couple scenes 🫶 a good read when you're bored! <<less

I didn't know why, but I couldn't stop reading. I hated Bjorn, and my heart hurts for Erna, this usually is enough for me to stop reading the novel, but I keep on reading despite the pain, haha Guess the translators and the way the story unfolds made me endure and I really did find myself loving the novel and rooting for the two MC despite their imperfections.

Do I recommend this? Hmn, not sure. If you're bored and want to feel frustrated then go ahead. The novel was well written... more>> and there's spicy scenes too, but you'll surely establish a love-hate relationship with the main leads so be prepared. <<less

Its the second novel of Solche that I have read and it never dissapointing. Beautiful writing to the core. The character development is good too. The FL doesnt have overly dramatic life that only suffering is in her path of life.

For me Byorn is a much better ML than Matthias. At least Byorn didnt made Erna his mistress but take her the proper way through wedding. The minus point of him is only his laziness.

Lazy for explaing about what exactly happend with his first marriage, lazy for making his reputation... more>> better for Erna smooth life as duchess, and last but most important toooo lazy to make Erna his priority.

At least he didnt r*pe her like Matthias did to Leyla so is Bastian to Odette.

And as always thank you so much for the TL-nim who can express the author beautufil writting through their hardworking translation. Its quality is superb.

Drama, angst and abuse, what a mix! I have no words... Abuse, abuse, abuse and guess what? Abuse! If this was a scene in 2024 it would have been a clear case of gender violence. The FL is a victim, brainwashed, cut off from any helping hand (her grandma for instance, Lisa was almost killed of just bcz...) . It has all the signs. Thousands and thousands of women die because of their partners, they find really difficult to extinsicate themselves from their partners and that there are still novels... more>> that in the name of love torture a woman endlessly without repentance and called it romance is disgusting.
Spoiler

I will laugh if anyone tells me the ML repented at the end. People don't change in a spur of the moment, he may have realized something but the damage is done and Erna is fully dependent of him and probably for the rest of her live while still living with him

[collapse]
. The historical period is no excuse, mostly because the mentally of the FL would have been the same if it was de modern era. I really wanted to comment on this novel, and much more intentionally after seeing the reviews. We have to addressed it by its name and not be fooled by the romance and angst tag. This novel felt like feeding a pig and watching it go straight to the slaughter house. <<less

What a whirlwind!

The storyline was easy to follow, almost cliched at times... what can you expect from an innocent beauty & problematic prince combo? There’s miscommunication, deep-rooted personality differences, an annoying ex who doesn’t know how to stop, parents who don’t really deserve to be parents, as well as a nosy lot of civilians who won’t shut up with their opinions. I came for the drama & I read it in one sitting.

In the end, you learn that it is technically possible to change a man... no matter how... more>> impossible it may seem in the beginning. But of course, this is fiction speaking. Loved the read; it’s been a while since I picked up a historical romance novel & I’m glad to have done so! <<less

This is my first time writing a review here. I got to say, the angst is annoying but it's understandable when the writer share the ML pov, as the writer has a certain way explaining with words. I honestly read all 3 novel from this author and I enjoy them all, the annoying angst sometime makes me want to stop reading them but unable to do so. LOL

At the end, I enjoy every chapter of it. It's really a gem.

This novel is a hope for a girl who lands in a toxic relationship and expects it to be happy ever after. Well, dreams...! The ML had no good attribute, except well he was handsome, and because he was handsome and rich, he can be excused what he did according to author.

It would have been a good novel, if the FL chooses her own path independently of ml. They might have understood each other, became friends and that's that.

This author doesn't understand the depth of trauma. A trauma causes pain... more>> independently of the person (whether he/she says sorry or not). Well, if one says sorry it can help the person move forward with little relief but acceptance. It is a real thing. It's not a plaything for your bad hero's so called romance novel. A trauma given by a person takes years and years to get heal. It's not..."omg, my hero apologised, he is groveling, which my heart wanted to see, I therefore forgive...", it's complicated, it's hurting. Even if the ML who caused all of this was the ml, the author should have given time to FL to heal and stuff.

In real life, you take divorce, take alimony and leave. That's happy ever after. <<less

Honestly I dont think that I'll continue the novel. ITS TO PAINFUL.

The FL is just getting abuse from her father and mother-in-law and everytime she doing something she will be misunderstood. Also I think she doesnt act like one of her age (if I rememder correctly she was 19 or something)

And Bjorn is just a horrible person. He didint leave alone the FL even thounght its put her in a difficult positions just for his personal advantage.

But its really a shame. Meaby in the future I will start... more>> it again. <<less
