To Ji Yi, the whole of her youth, from the moment she met Ji Cheng Yang, was carved with only one name.

To Ji Chengyang, Ji Yi is the soft ray of light at dawn, the warmest existence, the care kept deepest in his heart. He has once, for the sake of his dreams, forsaken her, hurt her, but in the end, he returned by her side.

She is the very first of his memories, as well as the Ji Yi he loves the most.

Every single sentence really got to my heart and by the end of the book, despite it having a happy ending I felt thoroughly drained. The hurt and the happiness felt by the characters were deeply felt by me too... one can say that there are some flaws as well... but these flaws I cannot see...

Goddamnit. It's beautiful. Heartbreakingly beautiful for me. I don't know if you've watched the kdrama series called Reply 1987. It somehow have a slightly similar mood but the half part of the novel is heartbreaking. It has a happy ending though but it still left me feeling restless. I want to read more of their married life and if they were able to have kids.

Comments/thoughts about a somehow 'taboo' tags on their relationship:

Spoiler

Anyway, I haven't really personally come across comments tagging Jì Chengyang as a 'groomer'. But honestly, I can't agree to it. Chengyang genuinely cared for her similar to how a close family friend will do after hearing Jî Yi's family circumstances. It started with that and because of Ji Yi's display of maturity despite her young age and her abnormal perception of her worth, he started caring for her like how a guardian would do. He didn't develop any romantic feelings for her up until she turned 16 (15?). And yet at those time he acted with propriety, never truly crossing the line and even promised to clear their relationship after she turned 18. He waited (altho there were 1-3 instances he got tempted and acted) for her. Even when they were finally in a relationship he still have that thought that he's so much older than her and controlled his desire.

I do understand why their relationship is so awkward for the characters. We readers may be able to know the truth and even read their thoughts and witness them but for the characters around them didn't. They didn't know about those details and even if they do it's hard for them to understand and accept it. The only thing that will constantly pop in their head is how Ji Chengyang had feelings for the little Ji Yi and have taken advantage of her young and naive mind. Although their age gap is only 8 years old but because they have formed a deep connection while she was just young and have even called him 'Little Uncle' along her best friend, it made their relationship hard for people to accept.

[collapse]

I cried a little upon reading Ji Yi's family relationship. They suck big time! They may not have been irresponsible but they were negligent and emotionally unsupportive. It was Chengyang who was there all along. And when I got Chengyang's hardship and the aftereffects of his job I was totally heartbroken. That is why I am discontented with the ending. Although they were able to resolve their issues and even had a conclusion, I still want to know details about their marriage and Chengyang's health. Let's just say that the overall novel left me a bittersweet feeling. But truly, Chengyang doted on her heavily. <<less

I've read sommang romance novels here and I've never left a comment but this one moved me so much that I just had to tell people how wonderful it was.

It focuses on the journey of both characters coming together and facing their feelings as well as their own shortcomings. I can only hope to experience a kind of love like this in my lifetime.

Definitely worth reading and it was translated so well.

I don't think I'll ever forget this story.

I would highly recommend this novel for the peaceful yet realistic feeling that this novel gives off. I specifically love how the relationship between the two leads developed over time, mainly considering the age gap between the two. The love that sprouts between the two is carefully shown over time and does not feel abrupt or unsettling. That was, by far, my favorite element of this beautiful novel, along with the realistic grounds that this novel is based on.

In the later chapters, I did have a few bones to pick... more>> with the ML, however, I do understand his actions in a way. But that does not mean he was a bad ML. I actually did not waver from my main ship throughout the novel. Both the ML and the FL were truly lovable. I loved the FL leads innocent, yet at the same time mature way to deal with situations. Moreover, the ML blew my mind over how steady he was and how far he always managed to consider his little lady's future together with him. He was mature, but at the same time he showed his playful side to the FL that had me squealing with excitement.

Overall, the plot was steady and well developed and the characters were all well flushed out and relatable to a very high degree. The age gap love is sometimes a hard theme to convey to the audience if it is not well written and can come off as unsettling, however this was not an issue with "The Healing Sunshine" as it cleverly portrayed the love between the two leads.

Recommend this to anyone who is looking for a cute but at the same time realistic and relatable love story. <<less

A truly beautiful story about love and growing up. The character Ji Chengyang is a man you will probably end up falling for if you read this. He is one of a kind, just like Ji Yi I also ended up enamoured with him. Ji Yi is also wonderful, she has her faults but I love how she deals with things. I highly recommend reading this book, it’s a wonderful read.

Highly recommended. Binge-worthy. The writer prepared and made a lot of research, and a definitely well-detailed information about things that happened. The story gives one a roller-coster ride like emotion and gives you a great information, and high likely similar to real life, jobs of the characters; which gives a better impact to the story. I believe that the general rating should be higher than 4.4.

this is one of the most heartwhelming novel I ever read. The story definitely touch my heart. First I read this for the sake of the love story of XiXi and Ji Chenyang but unexpectedly I was enlighten with scenarios of the calamities I could only see on the news. The stories in between this like an innate emotion feels like some heavy punch that we are taking freedom for granted and another reason why when woking up we are to be grateful as we where not in those calamities.... more>> This kind of touching emotions I had realized them while reading this Novel.

the romance story is totally 10/10. Age is just a number. It was the importance in the heart that matters.
As per the author, the story is like few centimeter light in the darkness ??

thank you for all the great translator who provides great effort so we can read such a wonderful story <<less

The feeling of nostalgia I got from reading this novel is painful, it’s sad I couldn’t find the epilogue I’m curious about what happened after.
the ML family is to die for, he was so lucky to have them around, I hope grandpa Ji lives a long happy life after the ending, I hope they never regret any major decision again, bad things will continue to happen even after this ending, because this novel really made me realize again and again how life never stops for no one, even when... more>> you’re least ready for it, disasters will appear, but I hope they all learn from their mistakes and live stronger.
I thought the FL was still a bit immature even after everything happened, but I’m not qualified enough to judge, I’m way more fragile than her, I’m still dependent on others around me, way more than she is, maybe this is life, when she had no one to depend on, she managed to keep her life together, achieving her dreams with no one’s help, it’s her right to indulge in the care now after the pain. <<less

An upgrade version of stew squid in terms of age gap romance. Much grittier and more depth. Characters are beautifully flaw and even if some action may be weird for other readers I think it is pretty much justified by the chara characteristic. Makes me crave for age gap and forbidden relationship plot now TT. I feel like a can repeatedly read this as I reminisce the lead relationship since the beginning towards the end of the novel..

if you like this I would rec: stew squid, devils warmth
