Transmigrating as a Mary Sue Character

Shi Ning transmigrated into a story in a book.

She transmigrated as a female supporting character in a school-life novel named “F4 and Their Little Fairy.”

In the book, Shi Ning was a daughter of a rich family who grew up with four male childhood friends. She was their pampered princess and they showered her with love. However, in the original book setting because she had feelings for the male lead, she was overly envious of the heroine and staged a series of events to hurt her. This caused the four male leads to break ties with her. Since then, everyone shunned her and she ended up being miserable.

After Shi Ning learnt the flow of the story—she felt elated and satisfied!

It’s better to transmigrate as a female supporting character. Falling in love was a matter that only involved the male and female lead and had nothing to do with her.

As long as she stayed away from those protagonists and made sure to do everything to avoid her death, she wouldn’t turn into a cannon fodder.

She could finally study with peace of mind. She could finally make her dreams come true and be admitted to Peking University.

But there seemed to be something wrong with the current script—

How did this F4, who supposedly only loved the heroine, became like this;

Her brother, Shi Chen, who was originally disappointed in her: ‘Those three boys, don’t pay attention to them. This brother of yours will support you for life.’

The hot and honest top student: ‘Shi Ning , you never noticed that I have loved you for many years…’

The future top idol in the entertainment industry: ‘Who the hell wants to be your brother? I want to be your boyfriend instead.’

The most outrageous was Nan Xiao, the supposed male protagonist of the story, who almost destroyed her appearance for the sake of the heroine in the original script.

In the corner of an aisle where no one else was present, Nan Xiao grabbed her hand and kabedoned her against the corner of the wall.

The possessiveness and desires of love were so strong that it couldn’t be suppressed. He grabbed her waist and with a fiery gaze asked,

“Shi Ning, why do you ignore this Laozi*?”

Shi Ning’s inner thoughts retorted: ‘Because your name is Nan Xiao, not learning.’

The male lead would be decided on as the new plot continued to unravel.

#The whole world loves the heroine, but the heroine only loves learning#

The male lead would be decided on as the new plot continued to unravel.

Indeed, it did. I would classify this story as no dog blood campus love story, with 3 potential male leads, and a 4th second lead?? The story flows very smoothly despite the 2 time skips (one from freshman year to senior year and then a short arc on college life) which suprisingly aren't as rushed as they sound. I was confused at first about who is the real ML, however there were hints provided from the start,... more>> and I was really happy with the ML. The only thing I disliked was that it ended when she got together with the ML, which was somewhat of an slightly open ending, and we never got to know what exactly happened with the oriFL (she wasn't evil, surprise) and the 4th ML. Moreover, one of the potential ML also hasn't given up?? However, I still don't regret reading this somewhat of a diabetes-inducing gem amidst the crazy revenge plots going around in the chinese novel section. <<less

Only a high schooller and got her novel recognized. That's pretty neat tbh.

The novel is basically mindless fluff, literally. It's not bad, but my vote was originally 3 but then I wanted to add another star to encourage the author.

It's pretty good! We support young writers! Everyone has to start somewhere after all.

TLDR: STARTS AS A STRONG 4.5 THEN DROPS TO ABOUT A 2.0-2.5 MIDWAY THROUGH

I really enjoyed the opening of this novel. It seemed like a Mary Sue done right. The MC had some decent problems to deal with, some solid enemies and there was decent tension. Then it started to go downhill rapidly. The conflicts resolve themselves s*upidly, the enemies that were putting up a good fight just self destruct and in one case you are left feeling rather sorry for them. After roughly the halfway point, the novel just... more>> coasts.

By the time the novel reaches it's ending it's quite boring and you are wondering what happened to all the side characters that were introduced to keep this limping along. The Original FL ?? The Illegitimate child ?? The Original Villains ?? The Family business ?? Her cronies ?? (I really thought her gang was adorable) . What you are left with is a badly done attempt attempt at a romance that takes all of about 3-5 chapters. Just unsatisfying.

Oh a big thank you to the translators the translation is very readable. Using Google to translate is also readable just remember that 3 translated chapters is approximately 1 raw chapter. <<less

THIS IS SO EMBARASSING. Frankly, it even makes me feel embarrassed for myself for reading it.

Someone said it was written by a highschooler. I'd say it might even be written by a preteen.

It's riddled with ridiculous troupes and clearly the self-projection of the author's fantasy, and I'm cringing every two lines. However, I still can't help loving the premise LOL it would definitely be a guilty pleasure, except this writing and plot is terrible.

It's a fluffy and light-hearted novel. My only complain is that the ending was too abrupt. A lot of conflicts that could have been discussed in detail were left unresolved like

Spoiler

What happened with Ji Shihan's brother? Did he ever turn normal? He had the potential to be the last boss that needed to be defeated but I guess after being punched once his messed up personality got better? Wen Yue only seems to be introduced for splitting up Shi Chen and his mother. He vanished a few chapters after that. I doubt his mother or father would just let him go like that but they didn't do anything. Ji Shihan and Wen Yue's relationship could have been built up nicely but he wasn't even mentioned.

ENDING SPOILERS AHEAD

Spoiler

And most importantly, Nan Xiao. He was so stubborn and determined. I doubt he would give up so easily. I was sure he would do a lot more to interfere with their relationship because he said he wouldn't give up. But the book ended so abruptly. On the other hand, I am very glad Shi Ning didn't end up with Nan Xiao. I was so sure that he would be the ML because that's what usually happens. The story seemed to be leading up to his ending when they were in school because he totally changed himself for Shi Ning. If Shi Ning had chosen him after all the things he said to the origShi Ning and the effort Shi Ning put to show her indifference to him would have been for nothing. Everyone would have been like "Oh, after all, you loved NanXiao so much before, so obviously you chose him." I really like Senuo as the ML. He was so sweet and the scene at the amus**ent park made me like him even more.

Studying and romance was the main focus of the story. The story title is very accurate as MC really was a Mary Sue type character. Everybody fell in love with her. All the villains targeted her but were easily defeated. She was forgiving, wise, and innocent. She was so perfect that there was nothing she couldn't do except from noticing the very obvious signs that the guys around her like her. I would have preferred a bit more angst and conflict but otherwise its a good story to pass the time. <<less

It's a good fluff. Despite being a reverse harem, the story managed to maintain its lightheartedness. Most of its plot are just her journey with academics. I am actually very satisfied with the real ML. He was the one I was rooting for from the start. Who is the ML?

Spoiler

Lin Suno. This was actually foreshadowed early on in the story when MC's grandma asked him to be her grandson-in-law.

[collapse]

Others may say that the writing is childish. However, it's a very fun read. I don't really see the negative aspect of this childish writing. The reason why I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 is because the story was cut abruptly. There were still loose ends. The ending was very sudden.

Sweet sweet sweet. Diabetes inducing story. Loved how the ML wasn't determined early in the story. The only problem I have with this is that it's too short! What's up with the open ending? It's good that it's a happy ending, but I wanted more~ ... more>>
Spoiler

I really wanted to see someone testing their relationship. A temporary third party maybe? Because they seemed insecure about their relationship. Also, what happened to the other characters? They just gave up like that? They've been chasing her for so long and they just gave up like that. All Nan Xiao did at the latter part is hug her to make the ML misunderstand, and then nothing. Poof, he dissappears. The singer also just gave up after they got together. Wan Yue just vanished after high school.

I used MTL.

It is a fairly good novel. The characters are very well written. The title itself has Mary-Sue so obviously the MC is Sue-ish. Though she does work very hard, she is like a learning God and it shows. It is 1 v 1 in the end and all who were pursuing her do accept her choice in the end and I loved this! There is no drinking, no forced hugs/ kisses or attempted r*pe. Just 3 friends competing with each other to win a girl's hand fairly while... more>> supporting each other too coz they have been friends forever and no girl is going to come in between that. Once MC sets on her choice (last few chapters only lol), they respectfully accept her choice.

Plus, tbh, there is not much of a romance as such coz MC herself ignores everything but studies till the end of the novel. Only the last few chapters where MC goes to university explores this romantic aspect and it will feel kinda dull. There is no explanation as to why she transmigrated to this novel. And the O!FL is also an actually very very very good girl. She doesn't have much screen time unfortunately. O!Host had bullied O!FL so MC does ask for forgiveness.

MC confronts the fact that the O!Host was a useless bully publicly. Usually, novels wave away such bullying incidents with weak excuses like 'Ohhh that was just a misunderstanding' or 'Ohhhh the O!FL is actually the white lotus bit*h and O!Host was a poor, misunderstood character'. Not in this book. O!Host was a bit*h and good riddance that she went away. MC does not whitewash but publicly accepts she was bad but now she has turned good.

Despite a Mary-Sue setting, the side-characters are not over-dramatic. There are no cases of family killing each other, students wantonly hurting each other, extreme acts of bullying or s*xual assault. It is quite a clean novel.

T/L at 91 chap is actually just Chap 30 in raws.

T/L rating - 5/5

Novel rating - 4/5 <<less

Read the translated chapters then I mtl-ed the rest.

Love story, uhmmm it's ok. Let's just say that you're in high school and you imagine what you're high school reverse harem life fantasy would be like.

Don't get me wrong, there's only one ML but FL is sure surrounded by young, naive and immature handsome high schooler. 🤭 There could be a drama but the author looks like she (i've read others and they say that author is a she😋) wanted no drama and just focus on FL's studies.

Spoiler

She ignored the emotional roller coaster you can ride in Shi Chen's mother's messed up relationship and the outcome of it when everything is out in the open. 🤷‍♀️

FL's brother's mother can give you a hard drama but author ignored it.

After Shi Chen found out her mother's betrayal, he just confronted her and then that's it.

What happen next?

What happen to Jin Yan? Her lover, Jin Shin's father.

What happen to Wan Yue?

What happen if Jin family found out the existence of Wan Yue? Especially Jin Shang

What wil be the reavtion of Shi Family especially Shi Chen and Father Shi if they found out her relationship?

It would also be nice if she gave those brats a happy ending and couple as well like if Nan Xiao really ends up with Tong Lu like in the original story should be.

Those are the questions that left me hanging. I'll go look for the 5 extra chappies, maybe that will give me answers. Sorry, the raw I read only has 90 chapters and I saw just now that there's an extra 5 chs.

The good things:

    • Happy endings all around
    • Not much dog plot drama going on
    • No sudden new villain halfway through the story just for the sake of drama
    • No huge misunderstandings between FL, and all male characters
    • The author gave a decisive ending instead of trying to drag it on into the 100+ chps
The bad things:

    • Little plot development. Aside from the 2 'villains', there wasn't really much going on.
    • Based on the chinese used, the author seems to be fairly young (High schoolish) ? The plot is also pretty much expected of a writer of that age.
    • The story is very indulgent, so this can be either good thing or bad thing depending on the stories you enjoy.
    • Not much character development. The characters are very cardboard.
3/5 Stars because while it wasn't fascinating, it was a decent piece of writing. Some people may thoroughly enjoy it, I enjoyed it well enough.

there's some plot holes in the novel. ending is kinda rushed and wasn't really feeling the romance. really big part of the novel focus on MC going to school so that was kinda boring.

felt like the author could had done a better job at writing the novel or making it a bit more exciting.

It is indulgent fluff, but it is entertaining indulgent fluff, there its variety on the characters personalities and motives, one out three antagonist so far has proven to be more than the cliche.

The MC is mostly rational, she has her slips but it makes sense since unlike some middle aged transmigrators into young bodies that act like middle schoolers or worse, she is an actual fifteen year old that transmigrated into 16 year old body that sometimes acts her age.

I like the MC attitude.. I mean she's not like other MC that after transmigrated who always crazy for handsome guys *study first fl* THE FL IS COOL YES SHE'S NOT BADASS AND STRONG BUT SHE'S SMART AND NOT SO STVPID LIKE OTHER FL WHO'S ALWAYS ACTING LIKE A G*RLY B*TCH AND THIRSTY FOR HANDSOME GUYS! And there's no cheat system with missions so its kinda refreshing.

To those readers who find this b0ring go shuuu! And just read action novels with fanstasy historical system cheat or immature Romance comedy novels... more>> with Stvpid clown fl! Or Stressful complicated drama novels with tr*sh ML and naive FL ಠ_ಠಠ_ಠ <<less

Not going to be a long and detailed review since this is your typical high school romance. With a dash of Chinese patriotism and some serious study sessions. It ends up being a sweet rom com type of book built on fluff.

My heart says 4/5 but my mind says 3.5 because, to be completely honest, there wasn't anything absolutely spectacular. The pacing was disastrous toward the end and a few subplots and character arcs were cut short.

No info on the brothers happy ending or what happened to Jin Shang. Nothing was concluded between Cao Shu, Jin Yin and Wan (I forget his first name). Also, no final remarks on Yu Chuyao. What even happened with Tong Lu the OG female lead...I mean I can infer the obvious but like, there was no final resolution given to many of the side characters. I wanted a neat, clean, bow if you would. The ending jumped from third-year high school to somewhere in the middle of university... all packed into the last 10 chapters. So that was disappointing. We will never know whether Shi Ning became a doctor or who succeeded her family business.

[collapse]

I did enjoy our female lead's character growth. And the schools days, up until the end... where things just jumped around and left me confused. The romance and who Shi Ning chose was my guess from the beginning and I was happy to see everything come together.

Spoiler

was it bachelor number 1 Nan Xiao. Was it bachelor number 2 Jin Sihan. Or was it bachelor number 3 Lin Suno?

...

...

...

If you guessed bachelor number 3 then you're correct. Congratulations.

On a side note. This book was like a love letter to Hana Yori Dango. Whereby the female lead chose the typical second male lead unlike in Hana Yori Dango—if I remember correctly, the female lead in that show/manga ends up with the bad boy (whatshisname)... although there are many differences LOL. But anyways I leave those thoughts and questions up to you to decide.

[collapse]

all in all, I would recommend this book to someone who wants a short fluffy, sweet romance. And doesn't mind wasting a little bit of time. Enjoy! <<less

It was fun to read. Don't expect blood drama bc the novel focused mostly on FL's school life and her love for "studying". Also, as the titled said it is about "Mary Sue Character" so it was already expected that FL is OP.

Honestly this got good premise, plus almost all characters were decent. However, this was a common shoujo (reverse harem) troupe... so compare to other unfinished translated novels I read before, I'm not willing to read this on MTL and fry my brains LMAO

Since the premise of the novel was based on a Mary Sue book it was already expected that there would be a lot of ridiculous things going on. And I surely was not disappointed.

There was the usual squealing and fangirling from background characters whenever any of the F4 appeared. There were also the usual villains who progressed the storyline. They were handled pretty easily though, to the point that it was a bit disappointing that they didn't put up more of a struggle. But it was inevitable that those incompetent... more>> villains who have been delt a bad hand from the beginning would lose. They are the basic definition of the phrase "hitting a rock with an egg" with them being the unfortunate egg.

While the premise was pretty shallow I was pleasantly surprised by the characters. All the members of the F4 had some significant character development which is rare in Mary Sue novels. Even Papa Shi was likeable. He is just a father who cares about his children, but has bad communication skills. It was nice seeing his relationship with his son turn for the better.

What I especially liked was the relationship between the FL and her brother. It made me relive my childhood dream of having a doting older brother. The characters were definitely the thing that sold this story to me.

All in all, this was an easy read. When you go in with low expectations like me, you will be surprised like it happened with me. <<less

Well somebody was inspired by Hana yori Dango, otherwise known as Boys Over Flowers, otherwise known as Meteor Shower lol

You say the premise is cringe-y but I say it was already done 20 years ago in Japan, even the name - F4 - is the same haha

No hate to the author though. I much prefer the characters that make up the F4 in this to the ones in the manga (and what I assume will be the ultimate pairing).

Cute novel with a bit of revenge but it's more focused on protecting people. I like the MC because she really looks at the wealth and privilege she has and acknowledges how good it is. Also the fact that the school felt mostly real - boring and filled with study. The writer takes time to portray that she quickly picked on stuff she knew from last life and had to work extra hard to pick up new things.

Some light spoilers about school phase

I like that the switch in streams wasn't shown as easy. Like she says everyone has their strengths. Tough I do wish she had stuck to her field, at least she didn't change the stream for a guy. She chooses to be a doctor because the doctor's couldn't save her grandmother but that bit seems very wrong in the novel. She says that she was hurt that the doctors refused to perform surgery on her grandmother and instead told the family to wait but this does happen in real life. This is because doctors have to consider how much benefit will the surgery bring v/s how will it affect patient's life. In case of older or in more serious cases, it's better to have medication and spend time with family. She suggests one of her friend to choose think what he want to do with his life and choose according to that but no one gives this reminder to her. Even her brother only talks about how difficult the study is going to be. He was already a med student, so he could have explained that to her and helped her with her grief.

[collapse]

It's obvious who she is going to choose, you can see her bias pretty soon but I like that most of the other supporting still remained friends. I wish the mother of her half brother had gotten a better arc. She was forgotten mid way even though she was like one of the main villain, same with the adopted daughter. The Jin family storyline also felt a bit under developed -like there was more to it. I wish we had gotten more interaction with MC's family specially in the last bit.

Going to talk about some details that have spoilers.

Spoiler

I like that the MC apologized and recognized that not everyone can forgive her for her bullying (even though most of her victims did eventually apologize).

Wish they had told us more about the villains of the main story because they just leave as reconciled.
