It heavily satisfies my honor boner.

As a VR story, it is certainly better than most (with a fun twist about the system later on)

The biggest draw for me is that the NPCs are real. They are far more real than the "players" personality wise.

... more>> There are some complaints that the players are all one dimensional douchebags, but seriously have you ever played an mmo? It's pretty accurate.

Don't go into this story thinking it'll be all stat points and mad lootz, because there's none of that. It's a story about an actual hero who follows a warriors code. Something in short supply among the novels in NU.

Some people might find it s*upid but I say they've probably never had an honorable thought in their life. The story is manly and will not resonate well with fans of edgelord super sociopath type stories.

(Ps. The complaints about the sister are pretty much negligible since she's almost never in the story) <<less

This story isn't stellar, but rather very solid. The MC has one of those ex-military settings, but he joins a chivalric orc warrior society rather than dash around killing everyone. From the beginning, the story emphasizes how real the NPCs are and continues developing along those lines. Ian is rather removed from the players - as of this time, he's considered a NPC and met with maybe half a dozen players - and while other players wander around grinding, he constantly has a clear goal driving him. As he completes... more>> one goal, he will obtain a new one, ensuring the plot is driven and focused. The author includes the rest of the world in the story, but for future arcs I predict. This story is the legend of the orc, to the point where at ~ch 50 you may even forget Ian isn't an orc. I know I did. Try the story. I recommend at least until the first major plot twist; preferably the second.

Also no, this is not like LMS. Weed just grinds his skills for volumes upon volumes. Sure he gets quests, but in the end it's all about grinding his skills. If I ever pick LMS up again, it'll likely be for the romance between Weed and what's-her-name under extreme boredom. Praise the Orc doesn't need romance to keep me reading. <<less

This is a well executed VRMMO fantasy with properly developed characters and plot. The world building is sufficient although not comparable to Legendary Moonlight Sculptor, but PtO shines in the novel's character development. Numerous side characters are memorable and grow as the story progresses, and the plot improves as it develops, especially after the Chesswood arc. I especially look forward to what comes next after Ch. 99, as the twist isn't completely unexpected but is unique and entertaining.

In regards to the VRMMO aspect, if you're looking for a properly balanced,... more>> detailed leveling and skills system, you likely won't find it here. Stats are nonexistent, experience and leveling are mentioned but not thoroughly explained, and the story's gamer motif centers around skills and real-life skill application in VR. However, there is a unique twist to the game mechanics in the realistic combat/violence. Players and NPC's are not damage sponges, but rather, fatal strikes and crippling injuries are regular occurrences.

There exists a slowly developing romance element to the story, but this takes a backseat to the main plot. Having reached Ch. 99, a definite love interest has yet to be established for the MC. There is clear potential for this to change later on. On another note, this isn't a tr*shy harem novel. That in itself is an accomplishment worthy of praise.

In conclusion, this light novel is worth checking out. If you enjoyed Legendary Moonlight Sculptor and are looking for a similar work, you're in the right place. Its similar in some respects with plenty of original ideas to offer. <<less

It feels very choppy. It's hard to feel any decent flow in writing. It seems to go from one point in time to another without completing the thought. I could put up with that if there was a decent storyline or good characters but they're really dull and one dimensional so far. Plus for a game, I don't understand how the basic game works. What does leveling up even do if the main guy doesn't have any stat values that go up and can beat up people that aren't newbs?

Among the novels out there, especially if we are comparing to more well-known titles with similar genres, I feel that this novel is more well polished and refreshing, in terms of character development and world building.

I think that some of us misinterprets and jump into conclusions such as:

Spoiler

"ALWAYS have some rogue/mysterious/missing/time-traveling/alien mega-genius programmer who somehow builds an AI all by himself

[collapse]

And

Spoiler

amused by rocks, ie NPCs acting on conventional values that quickly turn into bromides. Tormented by the always to come, evil of the always to come and detestable Human race.

[collapse]

I would argue that these inference and stereotypes just doesn't do justice to this novel. The story is still far from completion, and the plot suggested that the concept is far from the above-mentioned. Sure, there is a tag "game elements", to suggest that the world is made of NPCs, but as we go along the story, you begin to see the characters are completely different and question what if they are real people. Could all those cruel acts against them be justified? It makes you ponder deeply and philosophically human interactions and moral values such as cyber-bullying and value of life. It shows how an action of one person could significantly influence the masses.

Although there are questionable plotholes such as the background of the MC, but overall this novel has been really immersive and thought-invoking. There were moments that induced tears and satisfaction, a myriad of feelings flowing through me as I read more. Hence, I personally recommend this novel to readers who are tired of the usual otherworldly or reincarnation themed novels, and add that you should delve a few chapters into it and feel it for yourselves. <<less

This is actually my first time writing a review on the novels I've read, the reason why I did this is because I want to let everyone know that this novel is not just your typical VMMORPG novels, but it transcends far more than that.

Usually when reading any type of novels it only hits the external part of you, but for this novels hit me internally and externally. Some good novels may influence your mood but this novel not only does that but teaches the good and bad of me.... more>> To simply sum it all up I recommend everyone to give this novel a try for not only it's very good to read but also have a lot of rich text hidden content. <<less

There are a lot of things in this novel that makes it praiseworthy to read it, for example the way the MC behaves always following the road of knighthood and the empathy the story and the NPC transmits, on the other hand it has its downsides like the descriptions of the combats that are somewhat lackluster, but all in all I would recommend to take peek in the story.

I've read all the chapters and the side stories and I can confidently say that this was an amazing ride. The story is not top tier and does get a bit predictable but the content in it hits the right spots and satisfies the romanticist in me perfectly. If you like stories of MCs who doesn't give up and ends up being rewarded satisfactorily, this novel is for you. Not a 10/10 novel since there are flaws but definitely a 10/10 experience for me. As for my ending words I... more>> can only say one thing: Bultarrrr. <<less

This story progressed fast and didn't got pointlessly dragged on. The story details is also done greatly and most of the characters introduced has clear purpose. Although the story doesn't have that extra sugar of romance, It is completely fine because an orc warrior doesn't need a woman.

It is concluded perfectly I'm completely satisfied.

I've just finished reading this novel and I want more. This need a sequel. A volume 2!

This was just so good! ❤️❤️❤️ I'm rating this as one of my top five novel out of all the web novel I had read so far!

The plot was intriguing/fascinating and it really draws you in. The characters development of almost everyone around the main character was well-maintain and interesting. The storytelling and background detail was well thought-out and written. Nothing felt two dimensional.

... more>> I fell in love with the culture, the people, everything!

I love every aspect of this novel. I could just go on and on about what I love about this novel.

I would definitely recommend people to read this novel! <<less

After reading at least 30 or so Japanese Light Novels, my very first review is for a Korean novel. Haha. Odd.

Anyway, the main reason why I wish to write this is mostly due to the 'unfair' negative reviews I have read. But first, the review itself.

It's a very good adventure story. Of how a former mercenary picked up a super high-tech fantasy RPG and became it's strongest player. Their is plenty of action and gore. A ton of testosterone driven moments where qualities such as honor, courage and brotherhood take... more>> the spotlight.

The author also avoids giving female characters too much spotlight for whatever reason. There are plenty of female characters. However, they are are either side characters who are quickly shuffled into the background after a chapter or two, minor/major villains or in some cases killed off. All of his party members are dudes. By extension, the romance tag also doesn't make an appearance either. There have been some close encounters, yes. But our dear MC simply shoots them down. This ain't a negative. It's just something to expect. However, it is implied, on extra chapter 8 (yes, the VERY last chapter), he is dating one of the female supporting characters though.

That being said, there is one criticism I do agree with. The whole reason why the MC decided to play the game, was due to the possibility, I emphasize, the POSSIBILITY of his younger sister getting mol*sted online. And to add further insult to injury, he doesn't do anything in the game to help his sister until around chapter 50..... by which she had already decided to quit the game.

Spoiler

One common complaint I notice is how the MCs actions revolve around NPCs which cheapens and devalues the story. Well then, let me point out something interesting. Notice how this story has the "Gods" tag but is lacking an "Artificial Intelligence" tag? As for the incompetency of the video game developers, well, that answers itself later on.

This is, as someone else said, just a Korean novel mimicking Chinese ones. It starts out alright with world building and the main character exploring said world... but then someone kills the MC's orc comrades.

The MC wants to avenge them, so he teams up to raid their base. But wait! Despite destroying the group, the main bad guys get away. And wait! They join a bigger organization! And wait! That bigger organization picks a fight with the MC! So he kills them all! But wait! They still escape, and join... more>> an even bigger organization! But wait! The MC defeats that organization! But wait! It turns out the guy who killed his orc buddies is the number 1 player in the entire globe, ranked on... something?

But yeah, it's the classic Xianxia pattern of "beat the dude, beat the dude's master, beat the master's master, beat the master's master's master, so on".

It's decently written and relatively entertaining, but it's really a boring plot that kinda pointlessly meanders without doing anything important or interesting, and the MC pulls our Deus Ex Machinas whenever he is in danger.

I can't recommend it, honestly. I ended up dropping it after continuing on for a long time due to gambler's fallacy; after all it's gotta get better eventually, right? But nope. I took a 3 day break, and when I looked back, I thought "why was I reading such an unsatisfying boring novel? I don't even like the characters!" So yeah, 3/5; it's functional, but not good. <<less

The archetype of all adventure stories is the hero's journey. Unlike other webnovels, this author accepts and manipulates the hero's journey reminiscent of the most famous of stories I have read before. A great modern story follows multiple minor arcs that coalesces into an overarching story.

The beginning: We are first introduced to the Hero, Ian, with his call to adventure to protect his sister in the virtual reality game, Elder Lords. He enters the world of Elder Lords and where he first meets with his mentor. Here, he learns about... more>> the world he has entered, and through the aid of Lenox, he learns to accept and adapt to this new world. Past some minor blocks where he learns and grows as he defeats his enemies and bound over obstacles, we reach the descent into the abyss:
Spoiler

the death of his mentor, Lenox. Through this we realize the folly the author has placed us in. The call to adventure has been revealed a false start, as his sister quits the game. His reason to adventure is then changed from protecting his sister to vengeance for his mentor

[collapse]

Through this realization of the author we are first shown the genius of lee jungmin. Without revealing everything, all I can say is that this journey is a exciting yet heartwrenching adventure into the universe and the heart, nature and the psyche, as jungmin tackles existentialism and the meaning of life, the cycle of birth, physics and thermodynamics, the philosophical views and culture as a sentient being, and much, much more. Unlike a published novel, but also unlike a webnovel, this story is an independent work of art that I am very glad the author decided to grace the world with.

(I'm totally serious about all this, this story is mad bro) <<less

This is a very good fantasy novel. Don't treat it as typical lit-RPG as there is no much emphasis on levels, skills, etc. It is more like the Witcher or Berserker in how it tells the story. MC go to different locations and save the people, bringing justice. There are some really epic moments. If you expect romance you would be disappointed though, on the other hand there a lot of bromance, lol. One of the main drawbacks of the story is that female characters (other than one arch-enemy) don't... more>> play any significant role in the novel, even though there was some potential for their development. Sister and potential love interests are almost completely ignored throughout the course of the story. It is the story about a manly orc who brings justice together with his bros and then praised by people (as stated in the title). Still, it has some deepness in it and a fairly enjoyable read overall. <<less

I don't when but somewhere along the line of reading this novel, I got hooked. This novel is an emotional one so you just kinda have to go with what's presented. I felt bad for the orc NPCs when they were being bullied. I guess the MC did too. Even if the NPCs were just NPcs, they felt real to him and that's all that matters.

This novel review is the kind that people have a strong split of opinion.

If you like it, you'll love it. If you don't like it, you'll hate it.

I don't like this novel.

... more>> I can't even count how many times I've rolled my eyes and cringed in the past hours reading this.

First of, MC background as a military, a kind of special force at that, is completely unrelatable. His mindset doesn't work like one. He doesn't act like one. He's hopelessly romantic and s*upidly upright to the point I cringed and had to ask my self 'What bullsh*t training he had been through ?' Author should spent more time researching on PTSD and watch some military documentary before creating this, so he can at least understand the psychology of them, rather than a half-ass convenient background only for the sake of plot.

Second, The strange acts of NPC. I probably drop this point if the story did not mention the game to be realistic. I read to the quest where MC and his team beating a tiger almost to dead, then they throw the tiger inside the pack of wolf to let them fight. The same tiger, after chasing out all the wolf, turned to be friend with MC at the end. He even named the tiger 'simba'. I was dumbstruck. WTF is this? The second time was when he helped one user sell the vegetable. He refused to sell the onion to one of the customer because the customer didn't know the value of onion (Judgmental much?). And much bullsh*t dialogue to convince reader and another customer bullshitting story about fried potatoes. It was ridiculous. That was when I decided to drop, as the story apparently wasn't for me and I have no reason to continue to torture myself.

To sum it up, the logic of the story is conflicting. While MC is from military, he wasn't realistic. While the game claim to be realistic, NPCs act strangely and irrational. These conflicting logic, someone can just overlook it and continue to read ahead, but it made me cringe and prevent me from being immerse to the characters and plot. Soooo 2/5 stars <<less

Well first impressions...

It was pretty good and I enjoyed reading it. The characters were to my liking, MC was fine, plot was decent.

Well, that was it. I realized around the 100th chapter that almost everything that happens is just recycled garbage from previous chapters. The auther basically made a copy & paste bukkake.

... more>> First of all, everything is as follows: rinse and repeat. I feel as though the author made no effort to add some interesting events or some new and likeable characters.

Second, the mc's growth pattern is predictable. Train at spawn = strong-ish, do a quest = some progress, meet some other users = already op, another quest = get bashed to into an unrecognizable state and get insane power boost by getting lucky and saying, "oh, this is wrong, I have to actually swing my sword instead of getting beat like an idiot." That's basically it for the mc's growth.

Third, for some unknown reason, the MC acts like a b*tch at the most unfortunate times. He is all strong and stuff, but when shown random depressed persons mindset of the world, he just gives up. Weird god person makes fun of him, gives up. Fighting some strong dude, runs around like a pu*sy whilst getting his sh*t kicked in.
Spoiler

Keep in mind that the MC was trained as an orc. And apparently orcs have a strong will inside this story, so basically the MC is a weak willed orc.

[collapse]

Fourth (last one, I promise), the MC is supposedly a special forces guy and is super op irl.
Spoiler

he hears someone got yoit'd by some perv nad decides that hesl's going to playing the game to protect his sister. Alternatively he could have just told her to not play, but nooooo... gotta go and yeet on the pervs after his lil' sis. P.s. his sister quit the game anyways so he lost his reason to play at that point.

I have to address a couple of things that I've noticed about the grievances of those who gave this a bad review.

1: He's making a big deal about players killing npcs!

That's the point. The npcs are virtually indistinguishable from people and much of the first quarter of the book is about the morality of killing them.... more>>
Spoiler

the next spoiler is a BIG one so beware

[collapse]

2: His reason for joining the game is dumb!

I suppose you would say the same if someone beat the snot out of some prick for feeling up a close relative at a bar?

3: He's better then most players because he was in the military ooooo!

No not just the military but mega special forces. The kind that you see in video games actually. Like snake, or sam fisher.

Really all I get from these reviews is: "I only read the description and I know everything about this tale" <<less

This novel is A-MAZ-ING! I binged read it across several days, this novel had engulfed me! I loved the characters, the sentiments and everything. When it ended, I searched frantically for a second part, which sadly didn't exist. Imagine my surprise when I found out that there were extras too! And an awesome translator has even translated it. I was on cloud nine. ?? In short, I freaking LOVED it. It's one of my all time favourites.
