The power harassment from Alfine ー a girlfriend and childhood friendー, who are the same age, grew up together, and became adventurer together, is painful.

A peerless beauty, a person with the title Sword Master and called the Flawless Sword Goddess, a capable woman with achievement recognized by the Kingdom and rewarded with appointment as a knight and became a noble.

On the other hand, I’m treated as that capable woman Alfine’s accessory, hurled abusive language by her, often power harassed by her with insults as an adventurer, losing my dignity as a man and as a person, I resigned to spending my daily life in position as a lover-cum-caretaker.

However changes come to those daily life.

Alfine, who became busy as the kingdom’s knight, often became unable to take part in adventures, the times I took requests alone increased, and I was able to regain my lost dignity.

Then I became aware to the abnormality of the situation I was in.

Then, to regain myself, I decided to abandon her repeated power harassment.

In addition to all the equipment I received until now, I returned the sword which we gave to each other when we became an adventurer to her, then I declared our break up, and left that place quickly. From now on, I will change my name and appearance and live freely.

As soon as I decided so, everything went well, and when I realized, I was praised by the people around me and became the greatest adventurer on the frontier.

What’s more, I got a proposal to marry the frontier lord’s daughter from a female adventurer.

This is not a bad read.

Cons:

- Not enough flirting between love interest to justify the romance tags.
- A few hiccups and inconsistency along the way.
- The story would have been a lot more fleshed out if the author wrote and explored more about the world and the characters (the second conflict is just implied in the epilogue, which makes it very cheap because the story points were already laid in the main story). A lot of the details are rushed last minute, most likely because of prior agreement... more>> between the author and the publisher to write 3 books. Pros:

- There's actually an ending (or 2) that satisfyingly close up the story make (s) it worth while to read.
- The main characters are given a fair chance to grow and change (instead of bad person stays bad).

The main antagonist:

- Are the children liable to bear the sins of their predecessors? <<less

It's one of those stories that anything you expected to happen, happens at the very end of the story. Even the side stories eventually getting boring. So, tldr...

start --> intriguing stuff
.
anything in between --> pretty much random stuff to make it barely passable as a story
.
end --> stuff that matters

Honestly, this is so bad Im not sure to what even write down here.

Ill just leave a few words.

Overpoweredtalentedmc

... more>> Battles are boring asf cause of how easy the MC beats them.

Frontier lord's daughter (forgot her name already) immediately falls inlove and as usual, tberes this made wingwoman though theres barely any progress at all this 100 chapters.

Now Alfine, Alfine's parts are probably the only interesting parfs in this novel tbh. She actually realizes how sh^tty she treated our MC and regrets it most. Though I sfill dislike her since she has a negative view of our mc/her loved one.

Honestly what threw me off was a major plothole
Spoiler

when disguised Alfine meets MC and bumps into MC at the adventurer's guild. They both exchange sorrys then move on. Like, come on man! C h I l d h o o d friends. If yall are really childhood friends yall would've recognized each voices. F^cksake.

The story itself is alright there are no massive plot holes nothing stands out as particularly terrible and the translation quality and speed is good. However there is nothing special about the story the MC and female lead are bland and boring as are all their interactions with each other and with side characters. The story itself is very forgettable, after leaving it for a week I had to reread a bunch of older chapters to remember what was even going on. The most interesting and memorable parts of the... more>> story is the side stories and even then I wouldn't rate them above a 3/5. Overall not a terrible story but a bland and forgettable one, read it if you have nothing else to do but don't expect much. <<less

The first two arcs are pretty good. By the third and fourth arcs, the writing gets pretty bad. The author forces things to happen through forced incompetence or sudden revelations. The power-ups of the bad guys also are pretty absurd and sudden. There are only four arcs and it is almost done, so I am planning on finishing it, but I am pretty disappointed. I enjoyed the beginning.

I also agree that it is absurd the characters do not recognize each other due to changed hair color/style and eye color. It's... more>> one thing when it's an acquaintance and after a long time, but completely different when it's someone you spent 20 years of your life with and are actively looking for / looking out for. <<less

The way our protagonist walked out and didn't look back was satisfying, and the drama between the sword queen and our protagonist that follows is extremely enjoyable. Outside of that, the rest of the novel is only average.

While this story is by no means perfect, it was at least interesting enough that I never felt the need to drop it. For that reason, I think this novel deserves somewhere between 3 stars and 4 stars, probably right in the middle at 3.5. Since no partial stars can be given, I will round up.

If you're looking to give this a try, go read the first 13+ chapters of the manga adaptation and spare yourself the first 28ish web novel chapters that have made many a reader drop this... more>> before really giving it a chance. If English translations for the light novel are out, do give those a try first as well, as it seems the author has been putting effort into making the light novel version of the story much better.

Let's start off with the bad points:

  1. There are very many points in the story where the author more-or-less "gives up" on trying to make things believable. Without getting into spoiler territory, there are several instances where the characters suddenly decide to make the dumbest decisions possible so that author can force a particular thing to occur. The concentration of these will grow as the story approaches the ending. There really isn't any excuse for this, and I chalk it up to the fact that the author either had no plan or had one but was forced by whatever circumstance to abandon it and cut the story short. It really felt like if they took things slowly and had another 100 chapters that they might have written something way more satisfying. If you have trouble suspending your disbelief, this can be a red flag.
  2. The greater majority of this story is by-no-means unique. The meat is a typical fantasy story (with other elements I won't mention due to spoilers). Guy is somehow way better at magic than everyone else despite being a beginner, magic swords that can talk, taming animals, getting a heroine that becomes a party member very early on, etc. Out of all those elements, this story does not really handle any of them well enough to stick out.
  3. The story pacing and layout can be frustrating, especially the ending. The payoff set at the very beginning of the story (when two certain characters are expected to reunite) does not happen for a frustratingly long time. Even worse, when it finally happens, there is barely any resolution until much later. It is like the author didn't have it solidified and decided to delay the issue. It is also around this time that I think the writing started getting noticeably rushed. We would start getting random banter in the middle of serious scenes just to fill dead space, and logic starts flying out the window during battle scenes just to nerf our main characters. A lot of the payoff you might have been expecting won't even occur until the epilogue. That's how bad it gets. This is the other major red flag that you should consider.
It is these bad points, especially the ones regarding the ending, that made me lower my evaluation. If you had asked me to rate the story before the last 1.5 arcs, I would have given it 4+ stars. The ending had so many flaws that it disillusioned me with the author's writing and made everything else seem worse as well. With those warnings out of the way, here are the good points that kept me reading until the end:

  1. The character interactions (for the first 80% of the story) are very entertaining and carried the story. The characters themselves do not feel unique or memorable, but their banter is engaging enough to make the story enjoyable. I will refrain from specific examples due to spoilers, but some of the side characters genuinely feel like they would be fun to be around, and I think this is the strength of the author's writing.
  2. The few parts of the story that are unique are all very interesting, and if handled more carefully, could have produce a much more interesting story on the level of So I'm a Spider, So What or Clearing an Isekai with the Zero-Believers Goddess. The true villain's story and their motivations, in particular, stuck out and are what "saved" the ending from being unreadable in my opinion. Without getting into spoilers, it is these elements that are actually unique that kept my attention throughout the story. Despite it being not fully realized, I think the attempt made in this story is still worth a read if you can spare the time (that is after you've read all the better stories out there...).
  3. The romance elements are at least decent for a fantasy/isekai type story, which isn't asking for much but that's really how low the bar is for this genre. Most people will be drawn into this story for the heroines. Personally, the biggest motivation to finish this web novel was to find out how the romance was resolved in the end. It's hard to discuss them without spoiling things, so I'll keep this point brief and let you find out by yourself.
  4. The translations linked here on novelupdates are very readable, and Zky does a pretty good job. You might think having this as a good point is strange, since it's unrelated to the actual contents of the web novel, but there are a many a web novel here with good stories that are made unreadable by "translators" MTLing they way through the story and editing things with their own discussion. I am grateful this story got a good translator and I could read it.
Please take all of the praise with a grain of salt, as I am biased. I WANT to like this story. It's only natural after spending so much time with it. This web novel is by no means bad or unreadable either, but it has enough glaring flaws that it would be understandable if you didn't enjoy it like I did. The manga (which only has 13 chapters at the time of this review) is a noticeably better presentation of the story, and I have a feeling the light novel is probably better too. If you can read those instead, that would be a wise choice. I started off with the manga, got hooked, and continued the story here.

tl;dr: Despite some frustrations (which I might have vented a bit too much on here), I did genuinely have a good time reading this web novel. <<less

This is quite good, at first I just randomly read the manga and thought the theme is interesting and The MC is just an idiot, but after I read the manga till the latest chapter, I started reading the novel, the plot is quite interesting, and the romance part is quite good, there is no harem, the heroine only 2, Noelia & the ex girlfriend Alfine.

The MC is afraid of getting closer with Noelia because he still have trauma with his ex even though he start to like Noelia, and... more>> Noelia afraid getting closer with The MC because she think The MC just accompanying her because of his kindness, the ex also start to realize what she did wrong after the breakup, while on her journey finding the MC, so yeah I quite like the romance part.

And the main story is about uncovering the mystery of abyss walkers, which is actually quite good because the author is using science in a world where people is using magic everyday, and because the MC isn't an isekai reincarnator, they don't know what is science and for what purpose they use it.

While the story progress we also got to know about the reason why The MC & Noelia have lots of mana, why The Ex Alfine have superhuman physical ability, and the strange fate binding the three of them, so yeah the mystery is quite good.

From my opinion, it's not the best story out there, but it's above average and quite enjoyable to read <<less

I read the synopsis and thought this would be a cool revenge type story, maybe some cool character growth. No, not really...

The beginning is rushed, there is no build up for anything, no climax at all, the MC is just completely broken with magic and that's basically the whole story.

So, in short, It's extremely boring, f*ck this.

It was a story that is nice to read and specially the first 2 arcs have really pulled me in with the way Alfine’s situation after Finn left was shown and she started to realize what she has really been doing the whole time.

The third arc had a great start with how the news of alfine’s death forced Finn to confront his feelings about here but quickly started to turned really really bad it is filled with continuity mistakes which really destroy the flow and then when they search for Alfine EVERYONE they ask is busy blaming Finn for Alfine’s death saying how obvious she was about her feelings all the time but when Alfine asked around for Finn in the first ark the answer she got was that she should stop abusing him when he comes back.

from then on it only got worse all the character development and the constant declaration that Finn has to decide who he wants to be with where just thrown away and he was told that he is engaged with Noelia by the king, which was decided by Noelia’s grandmother, Noelia and Alfine without allowing Finn to even express his opinion or feelings in anyway

The final arc was story wise just horrible to say the least. I personally really like how the story of Vigo was presented for a big part because until the end he is very clear about the fact that he only cares about his goal. This is also the saving grace of the arc that all of it followed exactly Vigo’s plan to force Finn to welcome the survivors. From the moment where Finn and Alfine meet in the third arc until the final chapter Finn’s development is completely gone he is told who to marry and how to life and finally ends with him staying together with Noelia because Alfine tells him to do that while she runs away.

There is no Harem ending even the Epilogue is just his great-great-great-grandson speculating that he is about to marry his great-cousin the next day, after the whole story is for the whole time very clear that this is supposed to be a harem story

Average. Nice but average. It's good as a not-that-short story but lacks ambition, and some fiber. Worth reading if you like reading. Take it as a 300-pages-long book you would read in two-three afternoons.

The romance is neither the best nor the most intelligent part. There's a strange mix between too short and too drawn-out here, the FL falls short of character, and I'm not 100% sure what is lacking focus and what importance. The sort-of-harem-ending doesn't help.

The best parts are the main antagonist, as a whole —goals, identity, character, originality,... more>> etc.—; and the childhood friend redemption arc, ironically enough.

The story also makes some use of the "hero's journey"; the three main characters more than "just the random guys with power that just so happened to be there".

It does have a proper ending, even if it's cliffhanger-y. <<less

Characters are flat. I liked the plot. Well the plot was the only thing I liked. I put down the book several times and skipped a ton of chapters just to finish. I did read to chapter 44 before skipping around. I think I dislike all the characters. Not one was redeemable. Sometimes it's ok not to translate something. I think this was a novel that should have stayed in its original language

It's a mess. The initial idea is somewhat clever. You've got a tsundere that goes too tsun and the guy leaves and finds a nicer girl.

The story muddles around, then tries to copy Trigger, then muddles around more before a seemingly rushed ending. It just meh, not good enough to enjoy and not schlock enough to be entertaining.

word of advice... don't bother with this one. it just sucks. plot sucks, characters suck, world building sucks, characters keep popping out of nowhere at author's convenience. There's literally no drive to improve the characters they feel like childish and broken halfassed done cookies. Hell even the halfass done cookies might be better. It just get's worse the more you read to the point you start questioning why the hack are characters are so dumb. So yeah save your time and find something else to read this really is not... more>> worth it at all. man such waste of time. I read until chapter 138 and I don't think I am physically capable to read anymore of this BS. <<less
