I think the author has video games confused with reality. This novel suffers from some really really bad writing that has to rely on video game mechanics to make sense without adding anything of interest; it requires you to suspend your disbelief and believe whatever the author writes no matter how ridiculous or s*upid it is. Not that anyone who actually finds this story entertaining actually cares.

Just go down from a checklist of tropes and you'll find this story is just rehashing many things that have already been done before,... more>> and tries to have you appeal with an main character that has very little personality, If you think any of this will sit well with you, then this is the story for you.

Edit in response to Lapeac*ck : Yeah, if you're the author you have to power to make anything, and instead the author decided to opt for the uninteresting and overdone reality based virtual reality; instead of creating or making the genre his own, this is what we got. "It's real life, but at the same time it's not because we add basic rpg elements that readers understand. Genius, it's reality but also a video game." Character motivations are lacking, and there is a lack of any sort of tension in this story just a diary about a kid you can self-insert in and wank yourself off on how great you are. The author has all sorts of freedoms to make the story he chooses, and instead he remixes a bunch of tired out cliches. I love fantasy, don't get me wrong there. There's a difference between fantasy and tr*sh however. :) <<less

In this novel, people can randomly awaken to powers. When they awaken they start at level 1 and granted a unique power. MC who has been bullied by someone with power awakens and gets the power of pretty much infinite mana. Like many KR novels, MC only has his mother and is low on money (in debt due to father) and uses this opportunity to make money. Each awakened person also gets to chose their own path like warrior, mage or healer and get skills based on their class (skill... more>> books drop in dungeons and you can sell and trade them). There are also monsters immune to physical and magic. Obviously through MC cheat he is able to use all classes spells while at same time leveling those powerful inefficient spells no one uses (cause you level spells through usage and MC can just spam everything)

Now then, I will say this. When you see CHILDISH MC tag, that is an understatement! (More like Obnoxious MC) To explain the MCs personality, if you are familiar with the typical bully found in anime/manga/novels. He tends to have 2 followers, the skinny guy (henchman #1) and fat guy (henchman #2). Well the MC personality is pretty much henchman #1 (only difference is he is the one being bullied, but personality is pretty much that annoying squeaky guy who doesn't know his place and always screams 'you'll pay for this' as they run away). You get to experience henchman #1 from first person POV, so if you can stand that annoying personality, this may be a more entertaining novel. MC is obviously reckless, s*upid, self absorbed and simply fails to prioritize despite his own goals.

Now I will cover some of the issues behind the spoiler tag:

Spoiler
    1. First thing MC does is go into a dungeon alone with no party like an idiot (don't get me wrong he is successful but totally reckless)
    1. He then at one point does get into a party and while he does hide his ability to some extent, he makes it pretty obvious something is up.
    1. He is too focused on short term money almost dying due to his carelessness, if he wasn't saved from the poison after coming out he would have died there.
    1. Obviously despite starting to make so much money, he hasn't even spent it on his mother or his life but simply buying new spells. (I get that is important, but he could have easily used a small portion for his mother). Until of course the plot forces it.
    1. This is the most glaring of them all: He finds out the guild he joined is actually a terrorist organization that has no problem with killing people, holding hostages and doing all kinds of dirty stuff. So MC does the most logical thing possible after seeing how powerful they are during a guild war. He lays low till he gets stronger than them, gets help from outside sources all in preparation to leave. Haha, I'm joking!
He walks up to the leader of the guild, returns the weapon and says "I quit". Yes, seriously!

So far, the motivation for the MC is to get money, like LMS, and payback loan sharks. However, the MC here is kind of a wimp and keeps cursing and planning revenge on his enemies inside his head. The way the MC acts, makes you think he is in middle school. With the ecception of the greed aspect, the MC could be confused for a typical Japanese MC. Somehow, I have high hopes that the story will improve, so I will stick with it for a few more chapters.

Update: So,... more>> the story does not become better and I could speculate why the first translator dropped the series. Before being picked up again, a similar but better Korean novel appear, with a better MC, The First Hunter. <<less

I'm really enjoying this so far. It's early in the story but we've got a likeable character who actually takes advantage of his abilities without needing to be dragged into the dungeons. It could just be the books I've been reading lately but I was really getting sick of MCs who don't fully utilise the pros of their cheat abilities. So I'm excited for this and really want to see where it's going.

A story about lightly bullied MC with no power. One day, he suddenly awakened to an OP skill. Then went on to do the most sensible things any Korean novel on this site do, grinding. No sensible person on Earth would directly go risking his live like this ever. Is this the correct way to loves your mother, MC?

Another greedy weedy protagonist. There is no plot for the first 30 chapters (There is a minor plot as of 45 ch. But totally not interesting). From my experience, it will likely... more>> to turn out mediocre or worst. The MC is just grinding, money grabbing, farming, whatever and it's turn out to be arrogance MC vs arrogance passerby. No character development. Actually, there is no side character for MC to interact with at all. If a female lead is an ultra stunning beauty, super famous, strong, with a perfect background, I will not be surprise (edit: and there it is). PS. Translation quality is good. <<less

A great news that the Novel is picked up again. I am loving the story so far. Yeah, it's just another RPG in reality based Novel but who among us who played RPG as Wizards didn't dream that we can spam our spells endlessly. This novel serves as some sort of personal indulgence to those that at some point had that desire. Though I truly wish that the plot and the grammar are much better.

The MC of the story isn't mature enough. He is kind-of wimpy. So far he likes to plan revenge on his bully in his mind but does nothing to actually hit him back in real life even though he now has the power to do so.

The MC's personality leaves a lot to be desired. He is like an immature child who got superpowers. His preparations for real world are severely lacking, actually his preparations for everything so far are severely lacking granted not much has happened so far.

The story is... more>> not paced well. For me it is too fast. There has been no development of the character or his power or the plot, actually there nothing has been properly developed so far but the story has progressed a lot.

It kind of gives the feeling of wish-fulfillment that you get from stories of similar genre of Japanese origin. Also the translator uses a lot of spacing, way more than necessary, which gives the illusion of the chapter being longer than the length it actually is. I do not know if this is the case in the originals too though.

All in all, it is worth saving it for binge reading if you are bored. <<less

Conversations happening in this story is very very awkward.

Might be the translation or the korean culture, who calls their mother with Mrs.?

Story is what you'd expect from a korean game based story

ch.1-infinity ---- Grind Grind Grind Grind Grind Grind Grind Grind Grind Grind Grind Grind Grind Grind Grind Grind Grind Grind Grind Grind

At first it was interesting, but after reading up to 30+ chapts you can just skip paragraphs of fillers.

I like this novel so far, interesting premise looking forward for more chapters.

What you have to keep in mind tho, so far with 3 released chapters, you can already see that the author likes to curse. An average chapter has at least 4.3 "f**k", "shit" or similar vulgar vocabulary, which I don't mind of course. If you don't either, go for it! (:

i like the way this novel is moving, but only the MC has any character development, but this story is completely centered around him so its not a bad thing I really wish it had more characters. But on the plus side the MC is a thinker, he calculates his every move and don't rush in. Overall its a captivating series and right up you aliy if you want a story about an underdog rising to godhood

To the gentleman who said the author is confusing videogames with reality, you are... more>> the god of your story you have the freedom to make anything, if you want reality don't read from the fiction genre <<less

There are novels where the story is a clear power trip, and the author makes up for that issue by using good writing, or good dialogue, or having the main character be interesting. This novel has middling writing, forgettable dialogue, and an extremely unlikable main character. I will give credit though. The author gave the MC a backstory of being a bullied loser, and even after getting his powers, he feels like a bullied loser who suddenly got really strong and not like an immediate super hero.

I don't know if its the translator or the author but the 'debt' changed values suddenly. At first it was 40 million won and he pays 100 million and there is still more to pay? Later, its written that he paid 1 million and then 10 million? The heck?
Okay. Fine.
Also, I've no idea why the MC is such an idiot. He is a mage, not a warrior so why is he putting so much points on vitality and health and nothing in agility? I mean even if you... more>> swing a sword around, there is no point if you cant even reach your freaking target or dodge their attacks.
For a grinding novel it barely shows his stats or how much experience is needed to level or anything similar.
I love OP characters, but when they don't utilize their skills it irritates me something fierce.
Also, the author doesn't give any information if magic spells are created or found.
Cause if they are created, the MC should be able to muck around and create spells like crazy.
And then suddenly the translator changed the Won to Dollars and its really irritating.
I am really hating the inconsistency in this story. :\ <<less

I don't know how I was able to handle this until this point, it may have been cause I had nothing to read. Anywayz this novel has no proper logic or character personality. As some reviewers said, the author has completely mistaken real world for game world. To top it off, the MC calls other people s*upid while he himself is doing s*upid stuff and not doing things logically. Anyways, the author is probably to blame for that as most dialogues are so boring that I feel like elementary school... more>> kids are the only readers for this novel lol, considering there are barely any complaints/comments in the translators website to point out these glaring, obviously ret*rded, flaws.

I will give this novel a 1 star cause I cannot go lower and hope that this amateur author hasn't even graduated from high school. Please don't get me wrong, I am sure lots of high school students have good heads on their shoulder. I am just saying that this level of writing is below high school level, maybe a student who is bored out of their mind and had notes for few events and the story was build around that.

Note: Ironically in one of the chapters author had written, as part of MC's thought, somewhere along the lines of : "I don't wanna be someone like a bad author who writes their chapters right before deadline". This sentence aptly describes this novel. <<less

Eh. Don't really like this protagonist or get him. He seems really really dumb and bad at hiding shit. More so than even for a s*upid kid. He also seem ungrateful and weirdly suspicious of people who save his life for an Asian kid for little reason despite showing off massively.

Spoiler

Park who seemed perfectly fine until out of character confirmed to be evil for vague reasons and incompetent.

I mean people have been coming up with tons of ways to have made him a proper radical that realistically would never come out.

But she leaves it with people who never even meat with him? Never intercede with his problems despite knowing about them? Talks about SHITTY Dad But Doesn't Focus On Don't You Wish You Could Beat them up. Let's do that Guild mean family and family means having people to hide the bodies.

[collapse]

Kim Min Cheol is a traditional abuse victim that over reacts and lashes out at bullies and his abusers going far beyond stopping him into gleeful and persistent sadism that if looked at from the outside would have most hero types would beat him up of kill him in some things. Hell he should have killed someone helpless already if stats consistently mattered or meant anything.

He's ripe to become an abuser and cleave to someone who shows him any kindness. Except he doesn't until poor fashion sense bro shows up. A massive plot hole.

[Quote]He somehow fails to make guild friends after working with them for a while hunting a rich target and susposedly have respect for them. They then proceed to disappear even after being told to befriend him while he has a super regular schedule.

Before that he almost dies solo hunting an extra they were looking for that they told him was super dangerous and needed a party while not having heals of control skills or armor and having no dodge stat. He proceeds to nearly die, but he as pulls a narrow wins and somehow escapes only to pass out with a destroyed arm while half frozen and poisoned to the gills. He will almost certainly die. There is not easy healing magic that doesn't cost a s*upid amount of mana and cost a possible amount of millions to billions of dollars American to learn. No one he knows he was there. Should be all she wrote. Only it's not.

Park Hyun Guild master Healer of Nobles the guild the party he was hunting this dungeon with was looking for him and has a high level skill of super healing off cool down that saves his life.

A skill that cost millions to billions to learn likely takes massive amounts of mana take 24 hours to reset and up to thousands of hours to master.

She save his life. Bring him to her guild leaves him his loot instead of taking it as payment. Invite him to the guild waiving guild fees and on sign on a super weapon to specifications. And he's suspicious of her and not falling over himself grateful for saving his life and not making his mother who doesn't even know he is a hunter at this point just have her kid not come home one day.

And he's not even thinking about his cheat might be the reason despite how obvious it is by him impossibly soloing dungeons and spamming skills that he literally couldn't without money he doesn't have as a matter of public record.

He's just suspicious cause she's nicer and paying more attention than for a normie. Not that he has reason to know guild life or how she interacts when we never see him hang with them.

I repeat he has suspicions more than she might know my ability and think I am valuable because of my s*upid and unsurvivable habits that have proof that may be publicly available. Then he isn't fall down and kiss her feet grateful for her saving his life with a 24 hour cool down skill who's value may exceed all the money he has made to this date.

It's not like she even assume he should get down on his knees and beg despite common decency saying he owes her everything.

He just does nothing with them save take the expensive weapon and make tons of money they see no return on.

Then later he meets this dude at an explosion and some how befriend him after one fight and seeming after a weird and dumb meeting ask him about the guild only to get unsubstantiated rumors pushed at him that he beleives but never really gets evidence for or talk to them about.

Ya know despite her saving his life and being a major source of money. Hell when he quits it's mostly turning in the sword he's worried about instead of the whole owe them his life and knows where he lives.

Oh and the narrative then reveals yeah she's a terrorist. She's willing to kill and is really dumb about recruiting. Her team is unreasonably bad too.

Sang min the leader of the party he ran with before almost killing himself never seems to hang with him despite him having a predictable schedule and easily findable adress and later being ordered to hang.

His mom hasn't gotten kidnapped or seduced. Specially seduced. She a lonely uneducated former soldier. There are a lot of wealth men and Kim never takes care of her. In fact by his insane schedule assuming a reasonable school day he maybe sees her one hour a day. Plenty of time for her to get guild friends and encourage him to make his own.
Oh buy a home but never guards of security.

They could incite some thugs on her. Hero boy could arrive and beat them into the hospital and they can die in transit.

They never have team building parties. And when she brings up his issues she never asks if he's in trouble and needs a hand. They never invite him to help with fun sh*t or send girls. They are just terrible arena even attack him and turn him on them despite his mom having no guard.

Also the narrative seems to glorify his being an as hole and becoming an abusers like he was abused and a hupocrite.

He never got into trouble for being a crazy person and beating people in broad daylight in massive over reactions while super human.

Despite operating with his enemies in a way that feel textbook for the radical group he's opposing he never gets sh*t for it and they never seem to cultivate it.

Like this story would actually be better of when he put his hands on the drunk harassing his mom, he killed him or broke his ribs. And the suddenly the guild comes in with the lawyers and dosh.

Or maybe he goes to the guild with his issues and they help by introducing him into the gang violence and torture. The vicious beatings as things in him they would be better highlighting that anger inside him, and as it make him more like the radical guild. Up to a point. Cause as is I dunno why he even quit. What does he care about the government? Does he oppose Awakened supremacy? He seems fine using his own gratuitously of people he dislikes.

Which could be the thing. He get triggered and they are egging him on to the point of a moral event horizon. Something personal and close to home.

That could be how he separates from the radicals realizing he is his bully.

Hell he's dumb. The bully being in the same guild doesn't come up as a reason. He does not get leery. Hell he walks in a guild meeting and Bullies him unabashedly in front of tons of his guild mates and never thinks maybe these guys who don't know me might think I am an as hole and close ranks. He's blind and selectively grateful in the worst way and no for all he say it is all about the mom he lies to her, doesn't take care of her properly even when suspecting a terrorist group, works twelve hour days including Korean high school, and plays loose with his life despite it worrying her to death and him having no reason to do so at most of the time until haste actually give him reason.

It's silly and I am done. <<less

Author just pull ass out of air

Grammar: 3/5 (formerly 4/5 as of chapter 4)
Story: 2/5
Writing: 2/5 (formerly 3.5/5 as of chapter 4)

(Update as of Chapter 46: Author burned out too quickly, dropping back on troupes and pretend drama without any really original content being added to it. Saw that there were so many more chapters and tried to get back into it since I stopped at chapter 10. I regret wasting my time.)

(Update as of Chapter 10: Severe quality drop. Most likely either due to the former translator losing... more>> interest, or the author burning out too quickly. Not planning on keeping up with the series since the translation team has officially put the work on hold.)

Well now, found another Diamond-in-the-Rough. Grammar-wise it's fairly well done, not the most brilliant in word choices, but it gets the job done and then some. The story is kind of cliche in the Post-world altering event kind of way, humans adapt to this new threat in some fairly magical way and our MC is an ordinary nobody who gets their power by an odd set of circumstances. Lots of anger and hate going on here, but it makes the story a bit more juicy. The writing isn't the most phenomenal, but it's not bad. It's is just lacking a bit of flair and gets a bit repetitive at times.

Over all, think of this as a Korean Drama with a Fantasy/Game Theme. It's going to be entertaining. It's going to have emotion that usually leans towards the extremes of hate and angst. Most of all, it's going to be a good way to kill time. <<less

It's not great.

This novel is a classic korean-dungeon ranker novel but is quite lacking compared to the more widely known stories in the same genre. The writing and the main character stuck out to me as the poorest part of this story.

An example of some infuritating writing would be how the author narrates the end of scenes with something like "The atmosphere couldn't be any warmer". You know how they say you should show, not tell in a story. This author wants to do both.

The second thing I disliked was... more>> the MC, half of it because he's just boring (shows no hobbies or interests besides eating dinner with his mom) and the other half would because his abilities are never used creatively or to further the plot in anyway (eg, meteor could just be replaced with 'generic aoe attack' and it would be the same story). I'm not expecting MC to combine ice and fire to create steam, but it's not very interesting when every new ability is just a stronger attack but magic/physical.

But overall, those are the biggest flaws to the story that drop it from a 4 star to a 2 star for me. Other than that, it is still rather generic but at least its a story. <<less

If you liked The Gamer, you'll probably like this from chapter 2. Being honest, chapter 1 almost made me drop it. Badly enough for me to recommend skipping it.

Beyond that, suspend disbelief, pretend the world is a fantasy world that only looks like ours, with Awakened being Heroes of various cheats and agendas, and Non-Awakened being the villagers you'd expect, and you'll enjoy this.
