Legend has it that the world’s most formidable man Xu Shuangtze owned a cherished portrait of his deceased wife. But no one knew that on its back was another portrait of his arch rival who Xu Shuangtze had killed with his own hands.

Sixteen years ago, the Chief of Immortal Alliance’s Department of Discipline, Gong Wei, brought a blade with him on the Immortal Ascension Platform. His assassination of Xu Shuangtze failed and he was slain on the spot by the sword named No Way Out.

Sixteen years later, Gong Wei opened his eyes and found himself reborn in the body of a beautiful fool who even had to kneel down when talking to Lord Xu.

This was not the only disturbing thing for him.

Because of his ravishing good looks, remarkable power and status as well as his premature death in his previous life, he was now the beloved muse of countless writers. Books and stories featuring him as the main lead to all kinds of relationships were circulated far and wide. Even among the famous sects there were rumours of his forbidden encounters with every sect leader…

With the pace of the story goes, I honestly would never expect what the absolute real truth of truth until everything revealed.

It's Funny (for me at least), how things revealed pieces by pieces, step by step, and in each step I was like "is there more plot twist? Is it really the end? Is this the final truth?", but when the Absolute Final revealed, that how I know it was truly the Last piece without second guessing more if there's more truth.

That's how Amazing the story flow was. It keep... more>> you going, it doesn't get boring, nor everything was painful whatsoever. The Comedic moments were well placed, and all the characters are Beloved! Well, expect the Black Hearted Villains.

All the characters are Beloved because they're so well written and so real, it feel more real and lively that not many author can write such a MANY good well dimensional characters beside MC and ML.

The way the author wrote the relationship also Outstanding. Even when it so toxic to the bone and soul, it was far from boring. At least I really do want to know what the final of those Harmful Relationships.

Btw, those Bad relationships I mentioned was NOT between MC and ML. Sure MC and ML had Sad Painful moments, but I would NEVER call ML Toxic Manipulative.
Spoiler

Not when the bad things happen because he did get manipulated by the Black Hearted Evil Villain.

To doubt MC's love and all.

[collapse]

Btw about the Bad Relationships:
Spoiler

I would hardly call it side CPs because it was so Heavily One-sided they're NOT Couple. They just had a heavy entanglement that giving sufferings.

[collapse]

Also Love how MC's characteristics written here. He wasnt the Stereotype Saint nor he was a Sunshine type. He loves people, but he also love his friends more he hold dear. And of course how he Love ML in much Unique special way.

And love they way he explained why he forgive easily even when he can be so merciless. And I'm not talking about the Mirror things.

The whole things was such a Roller coaster it was Mind-blowing!

Overall I'm ABSOLUTELY RELIEVED AND LOOOOOOOVING IT SOOOOOOOO MUUUUCH FOREVER ETERNITY AND BEYOND!!! <<less

It started rather well, but I had to give up after chapter 20, because it became unbearable to watch the way ML treats MC. There were bad signs earlier, but at this point ML's behaviour is simply abusive and disgusting, and it is shown that he acts similarly towards other people as well. Degrading, manipulating, overpowering physically, constantly touching in a demeaning way, gaslighting, confining, forbidding from contacting his friends, etc etc etc. No positive qualities or behaviours whatsoever for the ML so far.

First of all, this novel is very different from mdzs and tgcf!!! Just because there are some common elements, it's similar to these novels??? Xianxia novels have many things in common, does that mean every xianxia novel is similar to mdzs and tgcf?? I'll just say, this novel is not like the aforementioned novels, nor is the cp dynamic like wangxian...

What can I say about Huai Shang? She's just amazing!!! I love, love, this novel and it's so so so close to my heart. It made me laugh, cry, awed,... more>> surprised and delighted!!! The plot is intriguing and detailed while executed beautifully and I couldn't stop gasping at the plot twists haha.

Huai Shang is very generous with her side characters, they are beautifully fleshed out and you won't ever feel like they lack when compared to the main characters!!! I adore Ying Kai and Yuchi Rui very much, especially Yuchi Rui!!! God, he's so adorable~

Gong Wei, he's adorably annoying little shit, but he's more than that!! He's pure, naive, stubborn, powerful, but most of all, he has a beautiful heart.

Xu Bai, ah what can I say? He's just so cold and fierce at first, and his character is slowly revealed to be much more than what was shown on the surface. He's carefree, stoic, powerful and will do anything for his little fox *sobs*

The antagonists aren't just evil for the plot, they have their own stories and reasons and that's why I couldn't bring myself to hate them. I felt pity for them instead ah

Plot: 100000/10

Main cp: 100000/10

Side characters: 100000/10

I can't stress how amazing this novel is, it's a magnificent and grand plot which is explained fluently!!! Please do give it a try, it'll surely blow your mind~ <<less

I have finished this novel and I can say it is really good!
I won’t say anything about the plot because this novel has so many plot twists, especially in the later part. It started funny but will turn knifey in some parts but don’t worry it’s HE!!
The main CP and side charas also have solid personality, they are not just some random canon fodders or filler charas.

MC - Gong Wei, is a bright and funny person. He often dug holes and pit he himself (tho he didn’t realise... more>> it). His banter with Yuchi Xiao are gold, and sometimes he makes Xu Bai jealous of it, ofc without him realising it.

ML - Xu Bai, is mysterious and “no one can know what he is thinking” type of person. He often drinks vinegar because of Gong Wei, anyway he is kinda a vinegar jar. You may questioning his feelings towards Gong Wei at first, but no worries, he actually very kind and soft to him. When they’re finally became an item, they often unintentionally shoving dog foods to other charas. In other words they’re veeeerryyy sweet :)

In conclusion: this novel is worth reading. The plot and story are awesome.

.

.

.

p.s: this is my personal take but I wish people can stop comparing this novel to MDZS (or any MXTX novels) because both novel have totally different plot!! Just because the main CP has similiar troupes doesnt mean it’s same as MDZS. I know they didn’t mean bad, but I think some people didn’t realise that their behavior of keep comparing every single novel to that novel has an undertone like “this novel is good because it’s similiar to that novel”.

I hope people can appreciate the novel because of the novel itself, and not because it’s similiar to a certain novel. Every novel is unique in their own way, let’s learn how to appreciate author’s hardwork for making an unique and awesome novel. <<less

mischievous and shameless MC + cold and no idea what's in his mind ML (ML is the one who makes everything complicated smh)

story is interesting from the very first chapter. there's mystery of who or what the MC is, the reason for why he did that 16 yrs ago, how he's able to revive now, all these mysterious deaths that's connected with MC. and all these generated from 2 things: peach blossoms and a mirror. just so so good!!

this novel also has side characters that are not flat. they... more>> have their own personality!!

p.s. the genre is said to be shounen ai, but I found a smut on one of the later chapters :D it might be from the uncensored ver, but I'm not sure

p.p.s. these mxtx fans kinda annoyed me with all the claims that this novel is similar with mdzs. I mean, I'm a fan of mdzs as well but really? I find the only thing similar is rebirth, cold ml, and mischievous mc? but that's actually a common trope so... I guess they don't mean anything bad, but sometimes it feels like it reduces the worth of this novel as just something "similar with mdzs" <<less

dang I haven't had time to continue.

but anyway short review: Gong Wei is my son, he's so cute. Xu Bai er... Sovereign Xu is cold outside, tender inside. ... more>>
Spoiler

Ying Kai is mother.. eh I mean he's so mother-like. Yuchi uncle and nephew are legit tsundere.

[collapse]

plot is very intriguing. so not complete review till this novel ends. there are many things that haven't been revealed yet.

tbh I prefer Huaishang's modern works but oh well, this one is not bad, very good even.

edit: I'm hurt, I'm especially hurt. this one is less hurting that Tunhai, ngl, but the sense of nostalgia is so strong, I just... I just can't... T.T

everyone is not same as they look, especially Xu Bai and Ying Kai.. ;;-;; OMG Xu Bai, you... you... sobsobsob
except Uncle Yu Chi Rui, he's so simple and cute.

edit2: yess finally finished!! all ends well, a bit too fast-paced imho but oh well.

reading this makes my brain hurt... the twists are very complicated I need to re-think and re-organize my thought. I swear, the plot is not very easy to digest. take my word: basically it's The Matrix but danmei.

and the cutest one is Yuchi uncle, despite his age, he literally believes kissing=double cultivation

Spoiler

if you think more, the novel is actually sad coz the snusnu one only happened in dream world. rip Xu Bai, may you get your full in real world.

im so turned off by this ml. If you redid everything he's done to the MC until now but with a male and female, can you see absolutely fcked, abusive, controlling, and bullylike he has been? This is the most chinese fantasy version of toxic Alpha Male ooOoO love interest I have ever seen.

  • ppl calling the ML possesive and I like that
me: do you think attempting mu*der, actual assualt (im talking about stabbing his eye), emprisonment, controlling who is around the MC etc is attractive?
  • honestly maybe theyre perfect for each other bc the MC is strange, dense, ignorant to a fault, and honestly the way the author wrote him imo doesnt add up.
  • is it decently written yes but it has holes that dont make sense to me but if u dont care, you will probably love this story.
  • i just want to say that if the MC was a female, would you see this as a cliche romance? I know my answer.

The original novel is still ongoing. It's really interesting story. The MC, Gong Wei, is a genius, cute, sometimes so innocent, sometimes so savage. There's still a mystery about his real character. However, his point of view is so interesting, and cute! The body of Xiang Xiaoyuan is too weak for him, so his struggle is started from there after being rebirth. The ML is a cold, but tricky. He has a kind of domineering aura. His power was at the same level with MC (before MC died). His interaction... more>> with MC is so intriguing.

I couldn't elaborate the conflict clearly because the proper tl is still on ch 1 (when I write this). But, they're several mysteries that happened after MC rebirth. (Spoiler) There are some cases with mirror, puppet, and MC's body. It's really different from other xianxia.

Honest speaking, I got addicted from the 1st chapter. I rarely join to read the ongoing story, but this book is an exception. Please support this story on the raw! However I also wish to read the proper tl to reread :"). <<less

This is really good. This novel is like the combination of Heaven official blessings and Founder of diabolism

The translator group, is one of my favorite translator, and I believe all the work that they choose to translate has it own unique style. And it is! 😍 (And as always, the translator quality is 10/10 👏)

At first, when I read it, I thought it's just like FOD, when the world see MC and ML as fire and water that impossible to meet without killing each other

I expect something like that... more>> when I read the synopsis too. But I end up reading something similar too HOB because
Spoiler

This is a beautifully written novel. I love all the mystery and twists. The way author cleverly uncover the mystery, and when we, as the reader, get all the puzzle pieces and finally see the bigger picture, we will end up being speechless ⊙_⊙

I really love the brotherhood here between Ying Kai and Xu Shuangtze, and I also love our cute couple Xu Shuangtze and Gong Wei (I can feel Yong Kai headache in the beginning of the story, when he thinks his best friend and his lovely innocent child couldn't get along with each other 😂😂). I love how the villain has his own solid background. Who is the villain, who is in the wrong here? Is it the God's fault? If only he didn't give him (the supposed to be villain) a second chance, maybe this disaster can be avoided? Or maybe is it fate?

On the side note, don't believe the love at first sight in the tag.

Spoiler

There's nothing like that. MC meet ML long before it, that's why ML can't help but feel attached to MC, and felt so sad when he thinks MC is a heartless person that couldn't even understand love. But even if it's blasphemy against the God, he can't help it. He loves him, even though he didn't understand it

SHORTER REVIEW:

Spoiler

Despite the good plot and the mind blowing twist that supposed to make you invested, most story delivery and the characterization left me too much unsatisfaction. If I were to describe the characters by their action... what I get was confusion, however surprisingly enough, it wasn't so jarring when you read it. But by the end, I was a bit numb because I couldn't buy it, and the supposed emotional scenes just feel empty. It's still worth reading for the action (and Gong Wei) if that's what you looking for.

Do I recommend this? If the plot make you curious and you like action, read it. But if you prefer story with better overall quality or looking for a story to be really invested in, skip it, because although this can be it, it's still not a good choice. Also this one has questionable romance. On another note, if you already read all good xianxia story in NU, read this I guess.

OLD REVIEW (editted)

  • The plot is good. The mystery is intriguing.
  • (minus) it tried to clue readers in, but failed. Basically all those flashback are just foreshadowing and author doesn't actually want anyone to make a guess. In the end author will just tell everyone everything and pretend to be the only smart person around. So it's okay if you don't understand the story/mystery at first like me, it doesn't mean you're s*upid.
  • I like Gong Wei, despite some strange characterisation he had later. I am just biased and I'm glad I am because it improves my reading enjoyment at least.
  • (minus) because the characterization in this story is just all over the place. The most unbelievable one is someone who acted like Qi Rong in the past but actually a genius and he even had redemption scenes, but who would buy that (I don't think anyone should sympathize with him).
  • The only good characterizations are minor role or side characters like the two from Yuchi family. I love both uncle and nephew. Although the nephew was used more as comedic relief and really lesser comparison to the ML (but in fact, he has more potential to be a good ML). Also the reason why the side characters have better characterization are because they kinda fall to overused/cliche characters which at least doesn't confuse you.
  • Since the start I neither hate nor love Xu Shuangzthe (ML). I think I had been subconsiously aware that he's just author puppet. Please don't scold him too much when he acts like a complete douche and please don't cheer on him too much whenever he does something good. Some of his action can make you want to idolize him or his acts, but his other actions make him a fictional character that you should (emotionally) distance yourself from. Many of his acts is just unreasonable yandere acts which come out of nowhere. and I normally love fictional yandere.
  • Enjoyment - 3/5 (I feel a bit conflicted about this)
  • Characters - 4/5 (pretty good including side character) (only good side characters)
  • Expectation - 8/5 (really high expectation) (it failed me, but it's still quite enjoyable)

Story instantly starts off with a bang, which I like as some novels tend to be a bit draggy before they take off.

I like the MC so far, he’s a total riot - funny, charming and mysterious. And as for the ML... He is one hard to read guy, which I enjoy as well. Their relationship is convoluted, dubious and strange. Normally even when the ML is the cold kind you can more or less gauge their feelings a bit, but even in the flashbacks the ML is cold, yet... more>> his actions after the death of the MC betray his true feelings. Can’t wait for more reveals about their past. <<less

It's amazingly beautiful and heartfelt.

The novel manages to capture such a stunning plot line and interest for the readers. From reading, it's really like MDZS and TGCF togther, but also an entirely new read! The descriptions are very thoughtful and well executed.

The MC and ML have their own unique traits, as well as their entrancing descriptions which are very well done! They are both complimentary to each other, so that's another plus!

Rating :-

    • One star for the plot and the event planning.
    • One for writing good action scenes.
    • Other for engrossing adventure writing.
Deduction :-

    • One star deducted for unsatisfactory character sketch.
    • Another star deducted for shallow romantic aspect.
Huai Shang has a great potential for writing action scenes planning surprises and giving unexpected twists. Which is applicable to this novel as well.

The theme for this novel is uncomplicated and positive and lucidly expressed through the writing.

Characters :-

Huai Shang needs to work on her character sketching especially for her MLs'. This one's condescending and and cavalier attitude towards others.

I despice arrogant characters and I disliked the ML. Especially his attitude towards the MC before

falling for him.

His desire to monopoly and imprison the MC made me hate him more. But his love made him a little bit likable.

MC is a friendly, too much naive and good tempered soul.

Despite being harshly and lowly treated by the ML he continued pursuing him.

MC's character is best described as mirror with blind spot to the person he's in love with.

Romantic plot is more or less non existant as they're already in love just dragging things out due to miscommunication

Loved the side characters better than the ML.

Huai Shang is kind with her side characters and doesn't massacre all of them for plot.

The characters and role of them are sometimes comparable to the main.

Ending is satisfactory as justice is surved. Evil is banished with an

open ending. Overall it's okay.

I am so disappointed with the ending in the extra, to be more exact, the last few paragraphs of chapter 101 (last chapter; extra). But before I delve into that, I do want to talk about some pros with this novel:

Storyline: 4/5

  • Hints were sprinkled everywhere so the plot twists were surprising but not unexpected
  • Each detail has meaning and wasn't carelessly thrown around
  • Show not tell (really makes me dive deep into the story and try to figure out how each character feels)
Writing Style: 5/5

  • Poetic
  • There's some "freedom" in her writing: I feel like there's enough detail and yet still some vagueness/openness in her writing that allows me to interpret the story in a way that suits my taste but also doesn't stray from her purpose (if that makes sense)
Characters: 3.7/5

  • I consider the characters memorable and distinct (but compared to other novels I've read, they are a bit flat)
    • I still find them endearing though
  • So many male characters (which makes sense genre wise, but oh the amount of female characters with dialogue can be counted with one hand
    Spoiler

    and that's including "Madam" Xu

    [collapse]
    )
  • No character is truly good or truly evil
Now onto the reason why I gave this novel a 3.0/5. This might not be the most accurate review, but maybe because I find the characters so endearing, I don't understand how the author can be so cruel to a single character and end the story on that note.

I'm going to give spoilers to people who don't want to read the extras, or are just curious.

I read the Chinese raws, so my translations of certain terms will either be very literal or very casual/informal. Excuse that.

Extra Part I:

Spoiler

Xuan Qing He, the soldier silk hero from 9000 years ago, now reincarnated as Jing King (or Jing Wang, a title for a son or brother of the Emperor; in this case, son) is about to marry his bride, an high official's daughter, when he gets drunk on his wedding night and meets the Ghost Prince. This isn't the actual Ghost Prince, but an illusion, and kills Jing Wang because XJH broke their marriage promise: a vow in which two willing individuals (you must be willing to do this with your whole heart) promise to marry each other for each reincarnation cycle. If one marries someone else, their soul will forever be possessed by the other person and unable to enter the reincarnation cycle ever again. So they basically and literately have a red string of fate attached to each other.

The news of Jing Wang's shocking passing travels into the ears of Gong Wei, Xu Shuang Ce, and Yuchi Rui. Why is it shocking? Cause Jing Wang was supposed to live a blissful monogamous married life with 10 kids and up to 99 years old. Side note: 10 kids because Gong Wei thinks that a pretty guy like XJH needs to repopulate the world with more pretty people.

They entered the palace (under invisibility) to check out the funeral and notices the soul of XJH rise from his Jing Wang body and opens up a hole in time. The group follows XJH as he enters the hole into a timeline that happened before the whole catastrophe at 9000 years ago, before XJH destroyed the Giant Mechanical Robot (so the time is after Xu and Ying ascended, but before XJH ascended and then became the Ghost Prince's teacher)

Their first meeting was in the mortal realm when XJH "saved" the Ghost Prince, disguised as a regular wealthy, "beautiful, " orphan young master, from a pe*vert. XJH at this time is the grandmaster of his family sect (the one that Changsun Chengfeng is grandmaster of in the current timeline). Ghost Prince falls in love and pretends to be weak (even says 'why is this so effective when Gong Wei uses it on Xu Shuang Ce but not when I use it').

[collapse]

Extra Part II

Spoiler

The Ghost Prince became interested in XJH because right after he saved him, XJH didn't even look at him and left. He introduces himself as Qu Xie. Later on, XJH even lectured him and this dude, omg, says I have never been loved, let alone scolded by anyone, can you be my master? (and then in a lower tone, if you were my wife, maybe I'll be more disciplined) (reminder this, it becomes important later on). XJH didn't even answer him and the disciple next to him says the Grandmaster never accepts any direct disciples and something along the lines of you're weird and harboring weird feelings for the Grandmaster. XJH at this point is also suspicious, but decides to check his spiritual roots (looks clean, weak, and normal). So he just brushed off his suspicions.

Next day, XJH is going with the disciple to a town to solve the mystery surrounding the missing cultivators (some from his family sect) in that town. QX stalks him and heads to the town too. XJH tries to persuade him to leave this place because he is weak, but "conveniently" it gets dark very quickly so they have to find a temporary place to rest. In the middle of the night, they investigate why the area is so quiet and what caused the bruises and marks on the corpse they just saw. Of course, since QX is weak, he stays in the resting area. When XJH goes to the river to take a bath, QX ambushes him from behind, landing a kiss and then gets injured by XJH's sword. XJH didn't see his face so doesn't know that it's him.

Long story short, the mystery is that there's zombies. Who caused the zombies? As Gong Wei says, whenever there's mysterious phenomena in the mortal realm, always assume its the Ghost Prince's doing. Guess what? it is. Why? (there's a story, but tldr, he felt like it) And he made the zombies kill that disciple that was with XJH, but XJH doesn't know that.

[collapse]

Extra Part III

Spoiler

XJH got badly injured by the the Zhang (forgot if this was their name) Family cultivators because they didn't want word to spread that there's zombies in their town. Reason: The Zhang Family head got zombified so now the next head (lets call him Z) is trying to capture the missing head zombie to take out his golden core and use it (via ghost cultivation method). Why? Because not everyone can be a great cultivator, and they need to be strong for the family to be influential in the cultivation world. If word gets out, all the zombies including their headmaster, will be detained and destroyed.

The Zhang Family badly injures XJH, so QX stops time and brings the unconscious XJH to the underworld. He healed XJH, but before he heals him, he hurts him (giving him the same pain from when XJH attacked him by the river). And then he made his palace all festive and red looking, cause boy was like I'm getting married today (to an unconscious man). QX has a magical mercury mirror that shows the fate of someone 3000 years from now if they drop blood on the mirror. QX puts XJH's blood on the mirror and he sees XJH is in the Underworld. But his glee is short-lived as he finds out XJH has become an immortal and he himself, QX, is locked up in the abyss and is constantly lectured by XJH. Homeboy is like, oh I can avoid this fate as long as XJH does not become an immortal. This got him so mad, he went back to the mortal realm with the unconscious XJH and then wakes him up and fabricated a story that the Immortal Alliance and other sects won't be able to save them and now there's a potential zombie apocalypse (it makes more sense in the story - I'm just condensing everything).

Skipping some details, XJH and QX are now in a secret room with lots of gun powder. XJH urges QX to leave and find a safe place while he blows up the place to prevent the zombie "apocalypse". XJH hugs QX and tells him please leave, you're innocent (oh the irony). QX is unhappy because if XJH stays and sacrifices himself, he will then become an immortal due to his good deed, so he tries to stay. The implication is that if XJH lets a innocent mortal stay with him to "save the world, " then this is not an entirely pure deed and XJH will not ascend. QX couldn't convince XJH so he removed an emotion thread from XJH's head (a thread that holds the feeling of wanting to save QX, which QX uses in the future to fool his teacher and escape the abyss in the main story). This trick works and XJH forgets his urgency to save QX.

This didn't last, as Z (who is also inside the room, cause it's his family's) is now unhappy that his plan failed and decides to open the secret door, leading all the zombies including headmaster zombie into the space. XJH fights them and tells the weak QX to leave. But seeing XJH almost dying, being crushed underneath the headmaster zombie's (now really dead) body, QX decides to fight too. But first blind XJH's eyes by putting the headmaster zombie's armor piece over him and then fighting the zombies. XJH sees in his line of vision on the ground that QX is 'bleeding really badly'. I do not trust this dude one bit. Next, they blocked off the zombies with some stones and stuff.

Both really badly injured and with broken bones decide to light the place up together. But first, QX asks if in his next life, XJH can teach him in his next life. XJH says yes. And then the red string of fate appears. Why? The Ghost Prince is born from the Heavenly Dao; along with Gong Wei, they represent two sides of the Dao. Naturally, any oaths created by the Ghost Prince can come to life/be treated as oracles. Remember what the Ghost Prince said the first night he met XJH? After asking to become his master, the Ghost Princes added: If you were my wife, I would be more disciplined. So XJH thinks he agreed to be his master for the next life, but no XJH was tricked (and didn't even know) that he tied the red knot with QX. Ahhh, so evil.

QX laughs and realizes that he changed the "fate" in the mercury mirror. But surprise, XJH isn't ready to die together. XJH tears out his golden core and crushes it onto QX's chest and using that dense spiritual outburst, heals all the injuries on QX's body. He then says "I really love... to see you be alive and well" But QX didn't hear him amidst the shock he just received.

Extra Part IV

Spoiler

Now this is where I lost it. QX yells for XJH but there's no response. He's dead. So QX decides to reverse time. Reversing Time is against the Heavenly Dao and will be punished by heavenly tribulations. QX reverses time such that 1. he stops the zombie invasion before XJH arrives in the town by returning the 'plague' back to himself (this is his thing, so he's not going to be injured. and this is why Gong Wei never heard of it - along with the fact that Immortal Xu was supposed to investigate this matter but it resolved on its own), and 2. he makes XJH forget about a person named QX, so XJH never knew they met before. He sends XJH away via boat. QX becomes weak and pukes out a bunch of golden blood.

Ok get this: I thought this would be a redemption arc for the Ghost Prince. I thought too highly of him. Because XJH sacrificed his golden core to save QX, this would be deemed an accomplishment that would alert Gong Wei to send XJH to the heavenly realm. QX didn't want that, so he decides that reversing time would prevent XJH from ascending and also to wipe his traces (because once Gong Wei takes XJH to the heavenly realm, Gong Wei will know about the zombies)

Because QX is badly injured, he needs more "evil" to restore his immortal spirit. This is why QX provoked Ying Kai to jumpstart the Giant Mechanical Soldier plan.

Now back to the current timeline. Finding out the truth, Gong Wei and gang follow XJH's soul to the Underworld. XJH's soul is wondering unconsciously towards the direction of his reds string, towards QX who is standing on the mirror coffin. QX says that they will be together forever. Then Gong Wei takes Xu's No Way Out and cuts the red string. Yuchi Rui grabs XJH's soul and throws him in the next reincarnation cycle as Gong Wei fights the Ghost Prince. At this point, Gong Wei is stronger than the Ghost Prince and tells him that he will never see XJH again. Gong Wei will make sure XJH ascends. Yess, Gong Wei!!!

Extra Part V

Spoiler

Years later in the mortal realm, the new Alliance Head is an undercover Immortal (God of Wealth; now a mortal cultivator with his memories intact) who teaches young XJH and young Ying Kai to gamble (yes Ying Kai finally gets to cultivate and maybe ascend, and yes, his methods of dying are comical: eating a poison mushroom, cutting himself, etc.). His only disciple is XJH, who he calls endearingly "Jing Jing." He prays everyday that Jing Jing can grow up healthily and without worries and ascend to the heavenly realm. Gong Wei and the others are worried that the God of Wealth will turn XJH into a gambler when XJH, a heavenly warrior, should be learning how to cultivate. They aren't worried about Ying Kai though, since that dude seriously needs a hobby. Now, if the story ended like this, it would be fantastic (5/5 stars).

The Last Paragraphs

Spoiler

I think I made the Ghost Prince too likeable in my spoilers, but please just know that he has little redeeming qualities, which makes sense given his characterization. So, he is a great character, and I can see his love, but does that excuse his toxicity and red flags? XJH in this life, as Jing Jing, is well adored by everyone and also warms up to everyone. In his previous life as the grandmaster, he couldn't get close to anyone due to his 8 characters, which says he'll jinx his family, disciples, spouse, etc. anyone who approaches him. When Jing Jing goes back into his room after playing cards with his master (former: God of Wealth, current: Alliance Master), he sees a mercury mirror. Next, a person comes out of the mirror and imbues XJH's forgotten memories (the ones before the time reversal) and while Jing Jing can't remember anything, he holds onto the emotions from those memories and feels fear, sadness, and nostalgia. But he is also ghostly pale and so afraid of the person in front of him. The person coming out of the mirror is the Ghost Prince (surprise) and tells Jing Jing that he must fulfill his promise to come to the Underworld and marry him. He tells Jing Jing that he will never escape from his grasps. Then leaves. WTF. Now the last two lines:

"Behind Xuan Jing He is the dangerous abyss of 9000 years - is the heart of the Ghost Prince"

Ok think of my spoilers, and then intensify the emotions by x10. That is the ending. I know it's an open end and I understand that Gong Wei and gang has his back, but I really don't understand why XJH can't have a better ending. He saved the world so many times, and in his previous life in the Underworld, he expressed that he never wanted to see the Ghost Prince again. I swear, if Huai Shang does not include a sequel to this book.

That's all. Still a great book, but I would advice you to stop before

I feel like I just got off a roller coaster with all those twists and turns! I wouldn’t say it’s confusing so much as it has so many things happen. Plus the translators help recap some of the more dense flashbacks.

The best way I can describe it is that I stayed up all night reading it despite many of the other commenters’ complaints being true. The whole time you’re in a state of seeing the finish line just to have the author move it back so you HAVE to just... more>> keep reading. It’s probably not worth 5 stars but it’s good enough that I want to keep the rating high. <<less

It's so good! And all the reviews comparing to MDZS are just s*upid. It has nothing to do with wangxian and infact I find even their dynamics to be different. You start hating the ML at first but then you realise there's so much more going on and he's much more protective of his wife and willing to pretty much do anything.

I think the plot is good, and I love the both main characters. While some commenters dislike ML, I can't stand MC for some reason. At some point when everything kinda get resolved, the MC's character change (I can't remember clearly) and I hate it. I guess at the point, I never want to finish this and ending kinda meh to me.

This whole novel feels like a fanfic to a grandmaster, but, oh well, it was not a bad one. I mean it, almost every scene of their relationship was implemented))

One of the impressive points of the novel were a lot of good twists. It makes you engrossed till the very end.

This is definitely a novel for fans of MDZS! I actually picked it up by chance after seeing that SVSSS was taken down, when I had meant to read that next.

I LOVE it! While there's similar elements, such as mysteries and animated corpses and the experience of becoming someone different in a place of authority, it's very much a separate and original story. And Xu Bai is much more blackbellied that Lan Zhan, which is fun (for me, anyway) to read. The MC is also much less prideful than Wei... more>> Ying, but actually has a really well written and interesting story imo. They would get along though. Both are very relaxed with death and the dead.... As well as both truly loving to experience loving life and enjoyment! Poor Gong Ziyu is completely tone deaf though. RIP.

This did remind me of other stories too, also ones I liked reading. Another would be Trying To Prevent My Disciple From Turning To The Dark Side, or White Cat's Divine Scratching Post. A few settings from at least two quick transmigration danmei I can think of. Additionally, Those Years In Quest Of Honor Mine, which also has similar dynamics and a similar feeling at certain parts.

Basically, if you love to read, enjoy some intricate but not dragged out plot, aren't too sensitive, I recommend this! Writing and translation are great. The pacing really moves along well. Mysteries draw you in. Other ships emerge because the side characters have their own lives and relationships.

I do wish I didn't read it before it was fully translated! Argh! It's now 5 in the morning, but I just wanna finish reading this story! Inject it directly into my skull!

(Also: very relatable for the main character to be so autistic coded, and I don't mean back when he was nonverbal. Love that, love to see it more, but very different than say Mu Chen.) <<less
