Clearing an Isekai with the Zero-Believers Goddess – The Weakest Mage among the Classmates (WN)

Description

Makoto Takatsuki is a normal high school student and a hardcore RPG player.

However, “normal” goes out the window when his whole class is involved in a bus crash and whisked away to another world! Powerful gods rule this strange new land of magic and monsters, and every newcomer is blessed with strong stats and unique skills.

Well, not quite. Makoto’s stats turn out to be pathetic, and his skills are super weak compared to his classmates’…he’s even stuck as an apprentice mage. Worse still, he’s given only ten years to live!

Luckily, Makoto soon meets a minor goddess named Noah, who appears in Makoto’s dreams and asks him to become her first believer. With the help of Noah’s blessings and a divine weapon, Makoto seeks to become strong enough to rescue his goddess from the dungeon where she’s been trapped.

By training hard and using his weak skills in unorthodox ways, Makoto proves that, even when playing on hardcore difficulty, an RPG player always makes it to the end!

Author's imagination is Monarch rank and the Translator-sama gave the story justice😆

Everything is almost perfect except...

The romance of almost all the characters. Especially the main character. I could accept lucy and aya since their route is obviously obvious. But I think they would have already given justice to the 'harem' tag. It was already perfect for me. But then enters sofia.. it was... how do I say it... the most HORRIBLE and MESSED UP matchmaking of all time. I don't even know why they HAD to be. Author sama! Are... more>> you going from the trope 'enemies to lovers'? But their animosity towards each other isn't even that strong from the get-go? I'd say it's bland. She could've been anything but a romantic target. Then there's janet... the trope 'enemies to lover' suited her more than sofia I think. And it would've been an ok but it was already used on sofia which end up being a boring and useless romantic target. Then there's furiae... oh furiae... oh furiae... ohhhhh furiaeeeeeee! I mean- oh! Makotoooooooo! Nahh- it should be author sama's fault. Author-samaaaaaaaa! Imma sing "how did it come to be? I don't know how you fall for him?" I mean the story was already hinting it since way way back, but be honest- you didn't feel romance in their interactions at all, right?! But yeah it's a harem so whoever is a girl introduced without official partner is the mc'sss (like a snake noh?)... I hate it.

And holla! Voila! Bonjour! Mabuhay!----- introducing the REAL 10-12 yrs old great sage sama (momo) who apparently WANTS/ ALWAYS/ SCHEMING to crawl on his bed? Peodophile huh... it's disgusting and aggravating that I just want to forget this wonderful story and stop reading... But honestly, completely, truly- the story's adventure, except to the romance tag of course, was my favorite. I think it has one of the best 'weak to strong mc' trope. It was described in a much more concise step by step process on why the MC is gettng stronger. And basically it made much more sense than your average cultivation or levelling tropes. I don't like the romance that it's getting on my nerves but I just love the story so I'm still giving it 5 stars. At first I like and find it hilarious how lucy or aya keeps on wanting to bed the MC but getting disturb every single time (by each other). But now I find myself skipping those scenes since the ones disturbing those moments are people who shouldn't have been in the harem. <<less

A great read, I thoroughly enjoyed it. :-) There are a few loose ends that aren't tied up, but this is a web novel I read for free so I'm not complaining.

It paints my heart but I have to agree with most of the bad reviews this one gets. This so far has been a horribly generic, steriotypical isekai, with no points where I would say it stands out. The system of how the world works is surfacelevel worldbuilding, the waifus are onedimensional and are pretty much just the normal lovedrunk tropes you see everywhere. Thats not the main issue with this though. You know sometimes I enjoy tr*shy generic storys. This on the other hand annois me about how s*upid... more>> it handles the characters. The decisionmaking of characters isnt reasonable nor intelligent. Its simply creates unneccesary missunderstandings so the reader can go: haha funny he is in troube! Theres also no point in this story where theres any stakes. Any dangerous situation is getting a deus ex solution in the same chapter so we can back to watching the MC beeing ultra dense and noone ever explains to him why. Bad novel. Sorry im not sorry

Edit: for everyone that rated thia novel 5/5* stop rating top score for something you found decently enjoyable. Its giving a false picture of what the novel is and encourages authors to not put any effort into their stories like with this one

The truth this novel is a waste of potential the author created all the situations for an epic novel with good characters and times but half way through the novel he takes it all away the prota although he is surely already at an exaggerated level his stats never go up, although the love interests are well constructed they never move forward and it becomes irritating, and then there is the most wasted plot of the series which is the time travel this could have been even more epic, we... more>> saw that potential in the fight with the first demon lord but suddenly rushed everything, in my opinion this novel would be one of the best if it were not for the haste of the author, and even with all this is still very enjoyable their battles are epic interactions are not horrible and feel the process of the protagonists. <<less

The story starts very good (I would have given 5 stars) but gets worse with every chapter.

!! Don't waste your time !!

EXTREME dense MC with no character development in 309 chapters. Furthermore there is absolute no romance whatsoever.

Spoiler

Last arc is absolute tr*sh. MC who saved the past comes back and no one really cares about him. He gets treated like tr*sh.

His harem members lived happy while he struggled in the past. Two of them seem to be a yuri couple, who like each other more than the MC.

Not a bad story. The start is fun and seeing the main character grow is interesting. His affiliation is interesting with the direction he goes. I like the relationships he has with the gods and heroes. They show great personal relationships between them.

Now for the bad. I am unsure why so many people try writing multiple romantic relationships with the MC. Makes the MC seem like a oblivious scumbag and the girls going along with it seem brainwashed and cultlike. I personally think that people should be written believable instead... more>> of what we see here. Things need to be resolved through death and loss not mutual acceptance between the girls. It doesn't allow anybody to grow and makes the story stagnant. It is war so some of them should die or introduce more men. The current state is unsalvageable as the girls have become the MC cult at this point. I am unsure why people try to pull off the heram thing, I can only think of it working with a villain to be honest. The MC is not a villain leading these girls on.

If you don't care about bad relationship writing than this is a great story with good paceing. The MC has great magical growth (personal growth lacking) that shows a good story filled with political drama with the upcoming battle with a demon lord. Overall that is a great classic. Just needs a bit of relationship fixing. <<less

This is probably one of the better Isekai out there. The premise is that he's the only person in his class who didn't end up with busted combat skills after he got transferred to another world. However,

Spoiler

The protagonist, Takatsuki Makoto, is essentially removed from the world and immune to all mental effects due to his special skill RPG player. At first the ability seems useful but not busted (360 vision, immunity to mind altering effects), however the skill actually removes him from the perspective of the world, thus allowing him to do things that would drive anyone else crazy.

[collapse]

That, combined with the fact that our protagonist was basically the king of grinding for hours on end back in his old life, results in him getting extremely powerful over time. All in all, one of the more satisfying growth arcs out of especially japanese novels I've read. Minus points for harem and our protagonist being as dense as a black hole, so not a 5/5 for me <<less

it's funny and good its not like some kind of isekai that the MC is overpowered right off the bat he start being the weakest to one of the strongest. His relationship progress is slow and I think it will be better if there's a time the MC will become jealous as well.

I think before the story end thats when the MC will lose his v-card HAHAHA

Yeah, this is garbage. The recurring need to stretch out blushes or attempts at romance, the MC who's dim beyond redemption, the harem full of air headed creatures quick to fall for a useless MC... this is tr*sh. Reigokai does a decent job translating as usual but this puts the stellar skill to waste.

Trully a good novel. The MC is kind and dense but the story isnt tr*sh like typical japanese novel. The whole character crew is full of nice people (not dumb and annoying mob like typical japanese novel). This is a warm hearted story but still have a lot of action scenes and interesting events (so I'm sure u wont get bored easily).

There are some annoying moments but they end really fast so in general u wont be bothered by them much.

The downside of this novel is 90% characters are females,... more>> that is the only thing that bother me cause I dont really like harem at all.

Anyway the side characters are really nice even though MC is Apprentice mage so I really like this novel (maybe also because I'm sick of typical japanese novels that have arrogant means side characters who treat weak MC like tr*sh and harem girl who will crazily praise MC for every little thing he does)

Edit: (at chapter 282) The mc's womans are getting more and more annoying. At first sa-chan and lucy chan is a little annoying sometimes but it is just a very little so it fine but then the harem keep getting bigger, new womans come in. All things those womans can think about are chance of MC getting new girl or doing s*xual stuff to one of those girls when if they trully know about MC then they should sh*t up and stop thinking weird stuff, trust their man a little bit more, listen to what he say and dont make light of that. The new girls come in town (after the time travel) are making me angry little by little. To this point it isnt cute anymore (cause too many girls thinking same thing acting same way that so repeative) <<less

I have no idea why this novel is rated so highly. Perhaps it gets better but honestly its been disappointing for me so far

First of all, it's fine and all if the protagonist is "dense", but this is way past that.
Like it would be fine if the author didn't feel the need to regularly remind us how much action everyone except for the MC was getting...

Also, I get that the guy has self-esteem issues and all, but it gets really frustrating how much abuse the MC has to take... more>> before he stands up for himself. It's one thing to be cool headed and ignoring jeers from strangers and stuff, but it gets frustrating how he doesn't stand up for himself. <<less

It's mostly enjoyable but the MC is starting to make the series boring for me, he has to be capable of fighting enemies very few people can defeat while also being so weak almost everyone he meets is stronger than him.

He regularly defeats strong enemies yet his stats can't go up because the author needs him to be weak and he doesn't get new offensive or defensive equipment. This leads to him doing nothing but magic control training constantly and every fight will end in the same way (using an... more>> ally/spirits mana, using his OP dagger, sacrificing his lifespan for a powerful ability).

The characters also feel pretty flat, earlier in the story he got angry towards Sofia for being rude to him in the past but since then even when characters attack him for no reason or insult him he barely has any kind of negative response, he's just turned in to "I'm a hero so I beat demons and monsters" and nothing else matters. <<less

This was the most fun isekai novel I've read so far!

It's got a great story line (there were quite a few twist that was unexpected.

Extreme spoiler!!!

Spoiler

One being he ends up traveling back in time and finds out that the hero is both male and female.

[collapse]

The characters are fun as well some of them gives you fluffy feelings. (I personally like the tsundere FL)

I personally like how the MC grows in the story... He was a low stats hero in the beginning that no one wanted but he didn't give up and would train several hours a day for years and he eventually gets stronger with the help of his friends (Girls who fell for him and His Goddess).

Even MORE Extreme Spoiler.

Spoiler

Ofc his stats are still weaker than a normal human but with the skill Noah Gave him [Spirit User] which allows him to borrow the spirits mana since his mana is only 4 since his class is [Apprentice Mage] which is the weakest mage there is. The thing I liked was that he didn't immediately become op he still had to train to learn how to use the spirits as well as learn their language. He became the spirit king later but was killed by the water goddess.....

Ok, so let me start off by saying I've never written a review for anything before, but this story made me. This story is great, unlike a lot of isekais, the main character is strong, yes, but that doesn't completely overshadow his party members or friends.
Spoiler

There are other female characters in the story and not all of them get with the main character.

[collapse]
The author is brilliant in his storytelling and you can expect a ton of foreshadowing and getting to slowly understand the world as you go on. There are plenty of questions yet to be answered (especially in this current arc). I have my own theories and it's overall a ton of fun to read.

Update 1: Chapter 88

Conversation filled with hypocrisy between MC (Takatsuki Makoto) and Princess Noel (Light Hero's fiancee) the only reason I gave this information was because of how much I hate hypocrisy, not a pet peeve but major psychotic hatred of it.

Spoiler

The hypocrisy started when princess Noel stated "What happened to the Savior-sama is completely unknown after all. So they had to create a plausible conclusion. The first ruler, Anna-sama, having her lover be taken by another woman is absolutely unacceptable!", the hypocrisy starts when the lightning hero who was her previous fiancee had his engagement with princess Noel cancelled just because the other-worlder light hero appeared, she obviously doesn't mind breaking it off either when no reaction is shown, to which the lightning hero did judging by his reaction, that's a lowkey NTR happening right there even though it did not happen to the MC, sure the action that hero took bullying everyone wasn't right but at least it happened for a reason.

[collapse]

This is just a personal thing and some of you won't mind it so much but it gets a -1 from me.

Update 2: Chapter 243

Excellent, I will be returning this LN to 5 star, they way all the story links into one main plot line is marvelous, the character development is amazing, there is enough slice of life in it to not make it boring.

The story may be a bit slow at the start, but don't let it deter you please, everything comes around at chapter 200+ (specifically 230 ish but I wont give any more than that), I assure you that you will not regret this at all.

The author did not rush this at all and were slowly building the story up 5/5, I would even buy the real LN physical book just to collect the masterpiece.

My suggestion is dont trust any reviews when it has not reached chapter 200+ as the story has not come around, you will need patience, though the patience of people reading and keep waiting for update is through the roof.

I have read everything in 2 days, that just goes to show how good it is, if after chapter 200+ and you are still not convinced then that means you have different taste and I wont fault you for that.

I'll make this as short as possible. To all you people who are down to read the review and think whether to read it or not; just give it a try.

The thing is, this novel is very generic. The weak-to-strong-yet-still-weak-denser-than-mercury MC as well as the so called heroines that fall in love (?) with him over the slightest dumb sh*t (not all of them, one or two actually took some development), not to mention the ridiculous plot armor that hangs so close to our MC that the ending of each... more>> arc is called 'miraculous' by the side characters.

Then why did I personally give it 4 stars? Why am I telling you to read it?

It's because it's enjoyable. It's fun to read. I've read by fair share of tr*sh novels that no one would stomach reading a couple of chapters of them unless they were hardcore weebs. This novel, albeit checking all the generic isekai bullsh*t a novel could check, still manages to be a very enjoyable read. The writing style itself is quite good. The story is generic but not bad, development is kind of unexpected sometimes too (except the romance, that's dead tr*sh).

So,

TLDR; Novel is generic in every way, though not bad and quite enjoyable to read, so you should give it a try and judge yourself whether it's worth it. <<less

This is pretty good imo, the story is good, the translation is good and frequent, it's a solid 10/10 from me.

Even though it's pretty generic atleast it has a lot of good points that I like. First of all it's light hearted, second of all, the MC isn't really overpowered, it's more like he's leeching off from the light hero's plot armor, so it makes it more unique in my eyes, since a lot of the novels I've read was just about the MC going berserk and just soloing the... more>> f*cking story, atleast Makoto's strength comes from his allies (i guess he has the power of friendship LOL) but yeah, wouldn't mind reading this again if I ever end up with amnesia, atleast that way of be able to feel the happiness that I felt reading this.

Edit: since a lot of people have been saying that the MC is dense, just wanted to point out that we as the viewers can quite literally know what the characters are thinking since we can see from their perspective, plus he has the clear mind skill that makes it so that he doesn't get ahead of himself and assume, since there's a chance that they don't actually like him. His denseness is pretty average tbh, can't really make moves on a girl that ends up not liking you, because that would waste his training time (the demon lord's resurrection is nigh after all) so it's not his fault that he didn't take his chances unless he's completely sure (like how he goes at lucy and sa-san).

This sounds generic. It seems generic. But for some reason, I can't stop reading this novel. It's a great example of doing many classic things right, while building up an interesting world. The characters are unique and likable as well.

Seriously, give it a try. The later chapters get better and better, and the world is fleshed out more as well.

Some of the points taken by minitiative will be disregarded as long as you reach the chapter I'm currently at, protag is dense yes, but some things have explanations why does this thing happens. I can also see the protagonist opening up his emotion thus potential character development in the future.
