Trash of the Count’s Family

When I opened my eyes, I was inside a novel.

[The Birth of a Hero].

[The Birth of a Hero] was a novel focused on the adventures of the main character, Choi Han, a high school boy who was transported to a different dimension from Earth, along with the birth of the numerous heroes of the continent.

I became a part of that novel as the tr*sh of the Count’s family, the family that oversaw the territory where the first village that Choi Han visits is located.

The problem is that Choi Han becomes twisted after that village, and everyone in it, is destroyed by assassins.

The bigger problem is the fact that this s*upid tr*sh who I’ve become doesn’t know about what happened in the village and messes with Choi Han, only to get beaten to a pulp.

“…This is going to be a headache.”

I feel like something serious has happened to me.

But it was worth trying to make this my new life.

If you want a story with a compelling story line, great characters, and a found family relationship like no other—your search is over.

Our story begins with our MC and his goal of being a slacker and act like tr*sh. It starts off with your standard isekai flair about a man from Korea transmigrating into a novel they've read and they now have to survive. Our MC Cale on the other hand goes way more further than just surviving, often finding himself in the middle of all the drama despite his... more>> intentions to stay away from it.

The story develops in ways that you do not expect, with secrets that only enrich the world and explain several of the mysteries not explained in the books our MC has read.

tr*sh of the Count's family is an amazing read. Filled with action induced plots with a smart MC, who isn't strong in his own, but becomes powerful with the help of his friends and allies. <<less

My impression on this novel :
The upside, the author had a story to tell. A progressing plot, compelling world building, and pretty good schemes. The downside, it felt like the work of someone who didn't bother to check his/her own work. There are many inconsistent details in the story, countless repetitive explanations (like what everybody said), and some lines are just confusing (e.g. He knew that Cale would have underestimated Arm's mage after his unintentional misinformation.... If he "knew", it's intentional). Unlike Amateur Writers on Japan's Syosetu, Korean Novels are released under a publisher, hence they usually have better quality. I don't understand how a publisher could publish something like this. I'm not saying the novel doesn't deserve to be published, but can't they hire an editor?

The translator team did a good job though, I enjoyed those side notes from the TL/PR.

TLDR, decent story, poor writing.

Got interested in the synopsis, plot, and theme.

Looking for a decent isekai to binge read and waste your time? Well, in all honesty, you're better off finding something else unless you actually have dispensable time to read this filler garbage-ridden story. The plot itself is consistent on the quality of writing, but much so that the character barely develops at all.

Enter tr*sh of the Count's Family, Cale Henituse, our protag who was transmigrated to the world of [The Birth of the Hero] novel. He goes on to cause mayhem and... more>> shift the tides of the plot of the original novel, determined by his own desire to survive in the landscape he was transmigrated to.

The writing itself is staggeringly mediocre, though ironic because the world itself is quite colorful and well written over the different types of races throughout the storyline, though it falls flat due to the fact that any other form of perspective besides the main character does not exist.

The dialogue revolves around the MC almost counterintuitively, the only time we actually get some information fresh off the story is when they are determining what will be the next plotline to delve into. Knowing that the world-building is interesting and what kept my interest up to c152, I just found it painful to continue reading the bountiful amounts of wish-fulfilling prose between each character, specifically to our MC, Cale Henituse.

Though the wish-fulfillment did not make me give up instantaneously, but the fact that it kept on being the focal point of each arc, got redundant and easily became stagnant in the storytelling aspect of this webnovel. Truth is that I consume wish-fulfilling novels such as this, but at least have some tact and stay focused on the plot. So little conflict that could make anything suspenseful, mainly because the main character has too much plot armor. There should be a balance in writing these kinds of stories. There were fun aspects as well, though the mediocre writing got too much on my nerves to actually feel thankful about it. <<less

At first I wrote a really long review but I realized that it's useless. TCF is my favorite novel because the plot is great. Everything that happened/ every information we get in the story has an impact in the future and is relevant even hundreds of chapters later. All the characters are likeable and all the villains are good characters too. The MC is great my favorite MC probably. He is smart and clever, reading his scheme is so interesting because the author doesn't always explain what he did so... more>> we discover it gradually. At first, the MC knows everything that is going to happen in the story since he read the novel and for some, that may be boring. I personally didn't find it boring because seeing how the MC will use that information is for me the best part when reading this type of story. I forgot to mention, there is no romance. <<less

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. There's a (sort of) subtle but very important found family in this story. I love how the author connects everything. The Gods and Kim Rok Soo's past world, the characters and past relationships whether good or bad, and how strong characters still receive damage whether physically, mentally, or emotionally. There will always be a consequence when using a strong ability. It's hard to find isekai stories like this with no love interest, no harem, and no overly OP character. The character interactions (especially with Alberu... more>> and Cale) are funny and some can make you cry. The Gods in this story are absolute crap and Cale (MC) does not hesitate to smack them in the back. I truly recommend this to anyone and everyone who wants to get away with rinse and repeat isekai stories. <<less

Alright let me start out by saying this novel is fantastic, loved every single second I spent reading it. In fact I think I’ve read this novel 3 times but kept stopping around the same area. That’s my only gripe I have with this novel.

(Proceed to read my rant if you want, overall the novel is fantastic and you should honestly just read it. Everything after this is my opinion. If you don’t want to somehow get deterred like I do from reading reviews sometimes then don’t even bother... more>> reading what’s below cause the novel is that good.)

I have absolutely no clue what it is but every single time I get to the 4 alchemist towers section I very slowly start to find the story a little, repetitive? Like I said I don’t really know what it is but I stop enjoying the story a little. Maybe it’s cause that arc isn’t as action packed or perhaps it’s because things just keep getting added onto the story, almost as if the author doesn’t want it to end and is trying to stretch it out. Anyways that begins around chapter 450~ something I think. I had to charge my way through to where I currently am after multiple re reads which is 509. There were some really good parts during those 50 or so chapters, but overall it feels like the quality went down for me. Maybe cause the pace has slowed down after non stop war and fighting. Which is weird cause the chapter I’m at right now is war as well, but it’s not as fun to read. Maybe it’s cause it feels like filler, then again there’s necessary plot that shows up during this arc. I hope the story starts to stable out for me cause it seems like it’ll be ending soon. I’d say in about 100-200 chapters or so the story will be done. I don’t want this section of the novel ruin my love for this novel. Whatever, all I’m saying is that from chapter 1 to 400 something the novel is fantastic, straight fire with lots of actions and some ups and downs in emotion. Once it got to around 450~480 the arc that I found difficult to read comes up. I’m trying to push myself through and see if it gets better for me cause I love the novel. <<less

I've caught up with the current chapters. This novel issssssssssss sooooo goooood that I had to create this profile just to write this review.

First off, this is a novel that has an MC reincarnated into a the world of the novel he was reading that basically consists of every aspect of the fantasy genre, magic, dragons, knights, kingdoms, elves, etc. But what sells this off as being unique from any other reincarnating, isekai, or transmigrating novel is that the story ... more>>
Spoiler

does not only revolve around the main character and his current world but also delves in the aspects of the mc's past and the apocalyptic world he used to live in. When comparing the current and the past MC as the story progresses, you can understand why he has such a self-sacrificing habit.

[collapse]

Second selling point of this novel is that the loyalty, friendship, familial bonds, and brotherhood in this novel is the best compared to any other novel, anime, and manga I've ever seen!!! Especially on the part when
Spoiler

During the parallel world arc, Choi Han went as far as to have a deal with the god of death in order to traverse dimensions and reach the world of Cale's past. When seeing the reaction from Cale and Choi Hans dedication, I was extremely moved

. Each character, even the side characters have a unique relation ship with the MC, brotherhood, family, guardian, an admirable idol, etc. And the relationships aren't half-expressed as well, you can really see the deep emotions behind each one. If you're expecting romance, then this ain't the novel for you, but regardless it's still such a gem, in fact it's better without the romance.

Last but not least, the build up towards each impactful event is slow and you may feel slightly bored of the preparations and handfuls of scheming. But when the main events come, they come hard even with the lack of details of the fights or action.
Spoiler

This was the case for during the war between the indomitable alliance and Henituse territory. The build up before the war was slow and there were some complex politics and planning involved but when all of the preparations showed their results in the war, I couldn't be helped but be amazed. Although, stuff doesn't always go to plan, and when you see the MC struggle to solve such problems, it makes you feel even prouder.

[collapse]
.

To summarize, this is the best novel that I've ever come across, and I hope that this hidden gem can be realized by more people. Have a good read if you're convinced, and there might be some low star reviews, but it's best to give this novel a read and be patient until the main and emotional events show up, then you will realize just how much you have missed out. <<less

I LOVE THIS BOOK. I LOVE CALE, RAON IS SO CUTE. I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THE NOVEL.

The twists and turns drove me nuts so many times. I loved the face slapping moments too. The depth of the plot is awesome and so well thought out. I kinda hope it'll be adapted into anime or something (without it being ruined of course).

Y'all should really read this. It's really awesome.

P. S. Please change the cover, Cale is supposed to be handsome, and not look like a girl. Choi Han definitely shouldn't look like a f*cking bodybuilder, he's supposed to be 17 and look 17, not look like Cale's father or something

First, the best thing there is in this story besides the plot is how the relationship between characters work. Unlike other novels girls/women are usually portrays as someone who either falls in love fast or fall in love as time passes. In this story there's no such thing as a heroine falling in love with a hero but friendship or more like non-blood related siblings or family. Emotionally worried about the hero but not romantically. Just because Cale is a hero not necessarily should the women fall in love. Unlike... more>> other novels where even if a woman was introduced as a person who pursues their dream like being a knight or something who hates people who looks at them as woman but not their profession they all eventually fall in love with MC just because he's sooooo heroic and helped them. Look at Rosalyn acts there's no such things as romance even though Cale's supporting her dreams. If it is any other novel that was a flag for FL to fall in love to MC. Anyway I like how they aren't portrayed as accessories to make MC look good because he's a hero.

What bothers me:

some settings might be or already forgotten such as the:

supposed to be Highschooler Kim rok soo

World tree branch weapon???

fire elemental who admires fire of destruction

There's also On and Hong who aren't given much attention. Out of the three kids Raon has more presence and always leave On and Hong on matters even regarding the secret. Beacrox and Vice captain who's supposed to be highest grade knights just below sword master not much presence. Pendrick as should have been part of the original hero party. Cage as the crazy priestess on the battlefield. Allied leaders who had presence in the birth of the hero are now just background characters. <<less

One of the few that are nicely translated. The MC Cale has a likeable personality and the battles are enjoyable to read. No weird relationships and the plot is quite lenghty and detailed.

Hope this one will be completed and fully translated as of now, we are at what the characters are calling the 'final battle' but a few plot holes are left currently, so I'm guessing it will be a lengthy battle.

One of the better / best translated novels out there. There are a few weird sentence structures, but... more>> for the most part, A++. <<less

I absolutely love this story. Would recommend.

No harem so nothing detracting from the main plot

The side characters are all really well developed. You'll get attached to all of them. And none of them are useless caricatures which is a huge plus. You get to see both the development of MC's relationship with them (really wholesome and well written, like you can understand why their relationship is like that) and also their own character development. Even the more minor side characters ... more>>

gets character development.

Really nice balance between action and fluff. Both of which are well written

The MC is a good guy from the start. He's just a dense tsundere lol.

The plot is really well written with a lot of things mentioned early on connecting to the later parts of the story
Spoiler

And quite groundbreaking in a way too. Normally transmigration stories MC has a normal background but Kim Rok Soo's world is worthy of another novel lol. And then later on in the story they connect it. Basically super interesting stuff

I really love this wonderful work, it's amazing how everything's so natural despise everything's added here without any limit, which I never expected.

Tbh, this is the greatest work I ever read, because I was really into action and comedy genre. So I must give this novel 5 star because it is really met my taste.

And, maybe some people would get annoyed how it's repeated many lines, and didn't had any romance problem, but I don't think that's a big problem because some people (just like me) really loved this kind... more>> of works.

Enjoy reading!^.^ <<less

I wonder why the rating for this amazing story is still at 4.4 stars in NU when it’s absolutely worthy of being a full 5 stars and is actually overwhelmingly recommended in other sites.

TCF is definitely one of the best I’ve read. It has almost everything I’m looking for in an action-adventure-fantasy and kinda slice-of-life story. I love how the story started in a simple manner and becomes more interesting the more you read it. It just doesn’t get boring. I also love how ‘human’ the main character is, he... more>> is not perfect, nor a goody-two-shoes, he is selfish in his own way, and is definitely not the cliche kind of protagonist... but you will absolutely love him. The author is very good in showing the character development of each character in the story whether it’s about the main characters or just someone passing by, you will learn to love each character in the story.

The story’s exposition is done so well you’d be amazed at the details that were hinted chapters ago to actually be of great significance. What I do love the most about it is how the story focuses on what true familial love is, that whether you’re blood related or not does not really matter much. Race, blood, color, gender, and language does not matter much if you want to care for someone. Love is love no matter what form.

I can’t wait to read more! <<less

LOVE this novel. You can tell how much effort goes into the novel as every little details even from the beginning that would seem insignificant tie things together as the story progresses. MC is very likeable and a bit of a tsundere but it adds too the story. Cute, adorable characters, relationship dynamic development, plot, everything is top tier.

I got to chapter 73 but I think I'm giving up on it. I started reading this because the manga left me on a cliff hanger and I wanted to read more. But the MC is portrayed differently in the manga and I have to say that I like it better. And you are able to tell what the other characters are thinking much more. I won't stop reading the story completely but I think I'm going to stop the novel and just read the manga instead.

MC wants to be a slacker and knows that both his mind and body have to be at peace in order to do so. The problem? He's decisive in that he always keeps his word and puts in copious amounts of effort where it's due. He values his friends over all else, and his friends just so happen to be solidly on the side of good. He's a downright paragon, and he'd never admit it.

There are absolutely times when this story gets boring, or annoying, or repetitive. But it's goddamn... more>> worth it to stick around.

Besides, I think a story where the MC inadvertently discovers the secrets of the universe is allowed to have a slower pace.

I DONT CARE WHAT OTHER PEOPLE SAY ABOUT THIS NOVEL IT'S ONE OF THE BEST FOR ME. I've been reading this for a few days now and I can't stop, it just keeps me up thinking about it. First of all the MC is my favorite kind, he's not a goody two shoes nor an evil bastard. His personality is basically if I can't avoid it I'll deal with it. He doesn't run away from his responsibilities and is always confident. He is somewhat dense but I love that side... more>> of him because I understand that its been a while that someone showed care to him since he is an orphan in his past life, I thought his personality is pretty much realistic.

The plot is good too as it makes you want to know what happens next and keeps you looking forward. There are a lot of exciting moments and funny moments and times that makes me think. I won't spoil anything but I think this novel is great for those who likes adventure novels but HATES those too heroic goody two shoes main characters who only knows how to shout justice or too much of an anti hero piece of sh*t. <<less

A very nice read. I'd give it a 4.5 if I could. Lots of good humor and world building. After the first few hundred chapters and the introduction of the main bad guy I've been a bit burnt out of the story and am not feeling those excited moments as often. If I had to guess it's because for most of the story there is good execution on the MC's hidden knowledge and the way he makes up for changes in the timelines are thoughtfully done. However, once his knowledge... more>> runs out things seem like they just happen now and the MC has to win through brute force or getting lucky. I still like the characters so I think once the story is completed I will go back to this and binge it. Hopefully there will be a really great ending. <<less
