I Reincarnated into an Otome Game as a Villainess With Only Destruction Flags…

Description

My memories of my past life returned when I hit my head on a rock. I am Katarina Claes, the eight-year-old daughter of a Duke. While I was struggling with a high fever, it was decided that I would become a prince’s fiancée. I have now realized that this is the world of an otome game I played in my previous life.

I also realized that I had become the villainous noble girl who got in the way of the protagonist and her capture target… if the protagonist got a good ending, I would be exiled from the country with only the clothes on my back, while in the bad ending, I would be killed by the capture target… where’s my good ending!? Do I only get bad endings!?

I want to overcome all the destruction flags somehow and reach old age!

I... well... this story is a guilty pleasure for me.

I love the first and second volumes, I love the s*upid MC, I love the sweet and sour love, I love everything portrayed in the story... I love those two volumes so much that I have read them over 5 times already.

But it's... not a good novel.

... more>> The pacing is s*upid, the characterizations are intricate but abysmally developed (lack of technique on part of the author), the only saving grace is the humor and the charisma that the MC holds...

Since it relies heavily on cliches and staple characters, if you are a passing enthusiast of anime tropes you'll understand everyone the moment they are presented, but a work that relies on previous knowledge of the reader isn't good... it just means it's poorly written... although I gotta give it to the author, some scenes were so well done that they made me teary eyed.

OK, so, I'll give it a pass on the first two volumes... they are quite simply a JOY to read, they encapsulate very well what it wanted to achieve and the ending... (the spoiler is a complaint... you don't really need it... I do spoil the ending of volume 2 which was the original run of the light novel)

Spoiler

Even though it was DUMB and didn't resolve ANY of the previously established romances, would be your standard "harem" ending in the million of japanese works (I really REEEEALLY hate whoever popularized that trope *cough* Ken Akamatsu *cough*... I really REEEEEALLY hate the s*upid authors that keep using it)

[collapse]

The problem comes afterwards...

The author is in love with different POVs, which is fine since they deepen the characters that you've just known from the MC POV, and in the first two volumes even though they were a biiiit repetitive and threw the pacing off immensely, they MEANT something because you learned more about the people that the author took her time to introduce and characterize.

But from the third volume onwards... it's no longer a tool for characterization, it's used as an exposition dump... and if there is something that I hate more than the "ending" on this works... is the inability of the author to ACTUALLY DO SOME FRIKKEN WORLD BUILDING.

I'm pissed at this work because I love it so much, it could have being so much better than what it was but the author chose the easy way out and began being lazy starting at the ending of the second volume, long gone is the interesting setting, we are left with your run of the mill, copy paste, japanese setting... all it needs after the s*upid school festival chapter is a beach chapter... it was going so well avoiding the common japanese clichés that fester this kinds of stories... but the author just... let go of her individuality... probably because of some upper exec that told her that she "needed" something like that because if not it wouldn't sell... and considering the announcement of the anime adaptation after the manga, I can't but find myself seeing the hand of some entertainment corp twisting her arm... (what do ya know, at the end of volume tree the author thanks her "editor" for helping her with writer's block...)

I wish people like this author would just STAY THE F*** AWAY from japanese editors... those guys only know like 3 kinds of stories that sell and don't really care about individuality. <<less

This novel, in a literature sense, sucks. It lacks a coherent plot, regularly breaks the reader suspension of disbelief, cliche as hell with the MC being dense as f*ck yet some how managed to gather an impressive bis*xual Harem. It's bad, but it's the kind of bad that make this thing GOOD. You should treat it like a crack fic rather than a regular LN. The whole damn point of the "novel" is WAFF, Fluff, Harem antics humors, the general over-the-topness surrounding the MC. And oh boy, ain't this thing... more>> done well in that regard. Trust me, you won't stop laughing once you read this. <<less

I usually hate dumb shoujo characters but MC became the exception. She's way too dense but a real hardworker. She's so funny and lovable.

This is truly, absolutely one of my favorites! An absolute must-read story! The flow of the story is very well done and the characters are very likable and interesting. Although there are times when I feel frustrated with the MC's reckless and naive behavior, its awesome how she manages to get through any dangerous situation by just being so lovable! I especially love how everyone just falls in love with her, whether they are male or female, without her even trying or even realizing her charm.

The update of this story... more>> takes a while but I hope to read more of it in the future. <<less

yep I enjoy this one, the story is light and funny, The MC is dense and might be hyperactive (?).. character development is really slow, actually mostly didn't show character develoment at all.

volume 1 is nice, introduce characters and show their PoV, I really like it, but vol 2-3 is mostly just repeat what volume 1 do, introduce NEW characters, show their PoV...

MC is so dense and dumb at later volume, I mean she like didn't grow at all, but that what make her funny and interesting

if you're looking... more>> for light reverse harem story, this is perfect

but if you want cool Isekai novel, not this one <<less

Typical shoujo. Everyone of both genders are in love with the MC while she is s*upidly dense. She is trying to create a path for herself when things go south so her weird habits caught people's attention. They loved her for the simplest of reasons. This caught my interests in the beginning and it is cute... but after so many chapters, it is repetitive.

I really appreciate the males-and-females harem, even though the protag is still dense about it. All of the characters are great! Normally in LNs you see people falling in love due to s*upid reasons like "the MC is strong" or "the MC is beautiful" or "the MC has ~nysterious~ knowledge" but they all like Katarina for her personality. She doesn't have any cheats, aside from being born nobility, and she doesn't use her otherworldly knowledge to become super successful in business or anything. Even her looks are stated to be... more>> about average, although she seems to have a complex about them. I really, really appreciate the way these characters are lovingly handled by the author. <<less

Mhmmm... reading this story was pure joy.

Just now I reached end of V3 and with few exceptions, I loved this story very much. In a story like this MC is the most important part and there is definitely great girl in this one... I do have few complains about story but about the heroine... none at all and with this story having main focus on her and her relationship with her friends (her harem of boys and girls) it's really good story.

I highly recommend it to anyone who reads this... more>> review... especially to those who will avoid this title only because it's something they don't think they will like. So far I read 3 stories about "girl going to another world and becoming the rival heroine in otome game"... in the past I simply skipped the titles based on this description alone but very surprisingly those stories are really great read and I believe that this one is the best. What's more reaching the end of the volume 3 I am completely satisfied with the "ending"... it feels like the story could end just there to be honest and seeing that there is just one more volume I think I will end it here and maybe in the future return but the ending after volume 3 is the ending I wanted to see and I am completely satisfied at this point.

Then again because it's such a good story I will probably end up reading more. <<less

This is the first Otome game novel I read and became fan of it, I am a normally fantasy novel fan for many year and yet for this time many novel I have read had no update. Then in boredom I began search the new category of novel and that why this novel caught my eye. And thank to that my boredom fade away, now I looking forward to new chapter of this BAKARINA.

This is my favorite "airhead reincarnator doesn't get it" novel, and it's got everything I need:

The translation is well done. The plots are fun without going completely wild. (It's so easy to go nuts with these otome game fun fests that they lose the flavor of the otome and become just another OP reincarnator swinging a massive Mary Sue-shaped club to beat the local fauna to death with her modern know-how and charm.)

It's so much fun to watch as she friend-zones the entire cast with the innocent charm... more>> of a puppy traipsing across a board of nuclear launch buttons with adorable big puppy paws. <<less

Really great !

Although the MC is kinda dumb it is part of her charm, and it is a really great ride until now.

The TL is great, the writing and the pacing are great, .

I can understand why it would annoy some people but it's a fluffy and funny story that I recommend to everyone :-)

This is quite an amazing read. This series flips around the trend of having a competent protagonist and instead has Katarina the idiot. And really, typically stories like this has the main character living out some unfulfilled fantasy or desire, but not for Katarina as she's too focused on avoiding her 'destruction flags' to even care about changing herself. As such, she's essentially already complete as a character right from the beginning where most of the fun comes from seeing how the people around her end up changing for the... more>> better because of it.

Not to mention that the humor is generally spot on, so it's easy to forgive a few conveniences here and there. At the end of the day, Katarina's brand of s*upidity is ridiculously endearing. <<less

This series is both humorous and lighthearted even in its darker moments. The clear break between what the protagonist believes and what others see also makes sense, so her supposed 'dense aura' is perfectly logical.

Its really just a very enjoyable series.

It's a cute and sweet story that flows well and was quite enjoyable to read when I first picked it up, with a tomboyish heroine who unknowingly attracts every character because just being who she is trips their flags. Unfortunately it's not the most original of stories and a lot of the series overlaps with pretty much every reincarnation story out there, without any defining features of its own. Honestly, during the gap between releases, I couldn't even recall which series it was.

It's a 7/10 to read in one... more>> sitting and 5/10 to follow. <<less

It's not bad in itself, but I feel like the characters are blunt. Their character developments are predictable and just too plain. I actually expected the MC to have more hardship, but the story is progressing way too smoothly, if you just want a Slice of Life-like novel, then be my guest, but if you expected some originality and unexpected turns of events, you'll be greatly dissapointed

This one is a gem, simple, fluffy, funny and heart-warming.

Destruction flags? No prob. Just capture everyone and live like a queen.

For me who play countless otome and often fall for all of the characters not just the targets, I find the ending (at chap 35) very satisfying. MC's denseness is adorable and hilarious. She treats people nicely and frankly, resulting in everyone being attracted to her but since she is dead set on the game plot and confronting the flags, she only tries to notice other characters' (especially the heroine's)... more>> feelings for each other but not for herself. That's why romance is not the focus, plus the multiple povs gives a very cute and warm story for all of the characters. <<less

Imagine the densest, most useless, most idiotic harem MC that you can. Make it female, now make it 3 times dumber and 100 times... No, a million times denser. Put her in a medieval era setting and give her a thousand harem member of all age, gender, and peerage, and you will got yourself a Katarina.

The protagonist is lovable and not your typical shoujo protagonist that goes head over heels to one of the guys or rather she was a dense (IS-Ichika level) and her harems knows no bounds lol. I may be a guy who barely reads female MC novels, this one is a good read

A light-hearted story with a very happy open ending :) It's funny how she unintentionally stole the thunder numerous times all the while misunderstanding the 'harem' members who tried to give her hints about their feelings.

There should be a limit to how dumb, dense and utterly foolish a protagonist can be.

It's not even the genre. It's just the protagonist that's awful in this novel.

A similar type of novel would be Tearmoon Empire, but that is much more fun to read as the FMC there actually take steps instead of using "Talk-no-jutsu" with every single character.

The harem here is also done really badly. There is no singular focus, the characters are copy-pastes of each other, the misunderstandings aren't fun and everyone treats the FMC like an... more>> infant.

Also, two-thirds of each volume is filled with filler stuff, the same things from different POVs. Once or twice I'd understand, but having six+ different monologues from all harem members each volume, reiterating everything that has happened again and again... The author just wanted to fill in the word count I guess. <<less
