Yan Wushi had walked a path full of blood and corpses.

He did not believe in the good nature of humanity. Even more so, he did not believe that there could be someone with great kindness and sense of justice, who would be so considerate of others without asking anything in return.

One day, Shen Qiao, who was the sect leader of Mount Xuandu, the number one Daoist sect under the heavens, was challenged to a duel but somehow fell off the cliff.

Yan Wushi happened to pass by down there.

Seeing Shen Qiao who was seriously injured to the point of dying, he suddenly came up with a perfect idea…

After thousands of autumns, who could stay eternal?

This is a very good novel, as shown by the myriad of 5-star reviews below. Translation is also excellent, thank you very much to the translators for finishing this.

I took off 1 star only because of a personal opinion (semi-rant) :

Spoiler

Even after the story's semi-redemption arc for him, I still dislike the ML (Yan Wushi).

At no point did he properly apologize for his betrayal of the MC, baby Shen Qiao. I mean, he handed Shen Qiao over to a literal monster, a bonafide serious evil psychopath.

Just because he wanted to see him break?

I finished the novel for Shen Qiao, only to see him getting together with this guy and everytime I think of how painful his life has been, I feel something inside me snap.

He has done a lot for the ML, and treated the ML very well...

Truly and honestly, I dislike the male lead, Yan Wushi.

Don't get me wrong, I actually like his way of talking and general personality, it reminded me of Wen Kexing from Faraway Wanderers. But I just can't forgive him for what he did to the MC.

Sure, he's done a lot after, and I might not have minded an arc where they became friends. Just... Really... He shows almost no remorse for what he's done... His character growth is actually just realizing that Shen Qiao is a good person. He remains the exact same otherwise.

I also feel like the author abuses the idea of Shen Qiao's "soft heart" to get the 2 together. Shen Qiao has frequently demonstrated that while he's a good person, he's also not someone who can be trampled on easily. He states multiple times after being betrayed that he can't exactly trust Yan Wushi. I still can't quite wrap my mind around how they ended up together.

All in all, Shen Qiao deserves better. I would've really shipped him so hard with Bai Rong or tbh Li Qingyu. Although they aren't perfect or maybe even good people, they at least have never traded him to a crazy maniac psycho just to get a sword that they don't even need nor want.

Well, that's the end of the rant and review. Everything aside from the points above is fantastic, and Shen Qiao is a genuinely wonderful person who goes through a compelling character growth arc.

He grows stronger, going from a sheltered sect master into a tempered and steady sect master.

And even for that alone, this novel is worth reading.

Excellent novel that explores a rich and complex world that pulls you in. Lots of intertwining political conflicts amidst warring states and faction. You follow Shen Qiao's growth from a naive and sheltered Daoist priest to one who has experienced countless betrayals, seen the corruption of the world, and still maintains his sense of self.

The ML, Yan Wushi, is truly a one-of-a-kind character. He is neither good nor evil, merely someone who is extremely self-interested and only acts in ways that benefits or amuses himself. This means his actions can't... more>> be simplified into "good" or "bad", so if you're looking for a story with simplistic black-and-white morality, look elsewhere.

And that's all very fitting. In a historical world where morality boils down to "might makes right", speaking about what is righteous and just is pointless. Yan Wushi often calls out the hypocrisies of other factions for trumpeting their own righteousness while hiding their own misdeeds. If everyone is a hypocrite, then why go through the whole charade? Why not just pursue pleasure and do whatever you want?

And yet you have Shen Qiao who clings to a detached sense of morality and tries to do the right thing. This clash of personality is really what drives the story as Yan Wushi finds himself intrigued by Shen Qiao and tries to pick at him to see what's really underneath, often causing Shen Qiao a lot of suffering through his many tests.

Regarding translation quality, the first half of the translations from Snowycodex and the ones hosted in a Gdocs are quite good. The translations starting from superglue are edited MTL, so anyone looking to pick this story back up because it's now marked as complete should be warned. I know the carrd says it's a human translation, but it's obviously edited MTL.

They made a lot of basic mistakes that anyone with basic knowledge of Chinese should be able to spot, and often just give up and not translate words that are easily translatable? Mostly not being able to translate 刀 properly based on context, which is really basic for any wuxia novel... or even the Sword Art Conference which they just left in Chinese. <<less

Edit: It has been weeks, and I have completed multiple novels since this one.... I can't help myself, I still can't get over them. It is that good!!

I somehow feel like A-Qiao and Sect Master Yan are the underrated couple's goals of the BL world. Don't get me wrong, neither of them starts out or ends up perfect, but in the end their flaws seem to compliment each other to such a degree that they become a formidable power couple. Their level of understanding for each other and acceptance of... more>> things out of their control sets them apart. In most relationships, when the person you love throws themselves into unnecessary danger, one would get mad or do everything to stop them, but these two know what is really important to the other person, and so they instead do their best to support the other and not make them fit into a predetermined mold (well... once they fall in love.. (looking a you, Yan Wushi) ) while also staying faithful to their own world view.

This is not a the story of a beauty taming the bad boy and making him good. It is the story of the villain falling in love with the martyr-like hero, and how the two fit their very opposing personalities into a way that they can love each other. Like the Sun and the Moon, not existing in the same space, but for the same purpose.

How do I put this... perhaps Thousand Autumns has surpassed my all-time favorite BL novel that I've read over dozens of times in just one week. It's good to note that fictional characters are as said, fictional, so it doesn't mean that you condone their actions.

With that, I must say Shen Qiao is good at being good. And Yan Wushi is good at being bad. And Yan Wushi's character isn't cheap, he's a high-class baddie, so it's not appalling. Right off the bat you can tell the author's intention when... more>> writing their dynamics. Two contrasting forces with different values learning to make a path with each other. But it's quite hard, isn't it? Oftentimes we'd expect the cruel one to change ways, but no. He is who he is. And Shen Qiao, too, remains as kind as ever. If I could describe the progress of their relationship it's as if Shen Qiao was this big rock by a raging stream that is Yan Wushi, continuously trying to be broken down, and he does break, except now that it's broken, the stream has created a Yan Wushi-shaped indention on the rock where only he can fit in and it'll be empty if he isn't there.

And honestly? The relationship isn't toxic, by the time they end up together, they're truly in love and for each other they learn how to adjust and make things work and they value each other.

I will also say that I absolutely ADORE Shen Qiao. He gets beaten down, trampled on, lied to, and everything else but he isn't s*upidly kind nor does he seek revenge. He knows his boundaries and he acts according to the larger scale of things. The thing is, we know he has a soft heart but a strong mindset. But I must say, he is the only character I know to be this strong and slightly aloof but still be portrayed as soft. And by soft I mean he isn't kind just to be kind, he pours his heart out to the children he comes across and he cries without being ashamed. I love it. I love how he's never ashamed of his feelings. He has a touch of innocence and naivete but he's very reliable after he learns. He never intended to fall in love with someone which is why he acts a bit out of place when it comes to Yan Wushi, but it's so realistic and so understandable..

Then, with Yan Wushi. I love how he's unapologetically himself. He's not truly evil, but he knows how to use these capabilities and he's honest about his goals and desires. So when he finally acts in love, it's sweet, it's a hint of softness and a hint of change- he put down his pride for Shen Qiao.

Oh, also! This novel heavily implies and applies Daoist, Buddhist, and Confucianist principles and I think it's good to know about it a bit to be able to understand the character's actions and thought process more. SQ is a really good character in that respect.

What a long review. I made an account just for this, lol. Anyways, please read this novel. You won't regret it at all. Good characters, good story, and a good lesson. <<less

It was a beautiful journey.. Going on this journey with Shen Qiao and Yan WuShi I witnessed one grow and the other become soft.

I really love the ML. The overconfident overpowered arrogant Grandmaster accompanied our MC to see him turn evil.

I dont have a lot of words to say but definitely this is a very beautiful story.

Also you can find the rest of translation in mydramalist.

I am looking forward to the completion of the English translation. Snowy Codex is doing a great job in translating this novel. The plot is exciting. The main characters particularly Yan Wushi is complex on the otherhand Shen Quiao's tenacity to adhere to the Dao principles is astounding. I came to appreciate his placid temperament despite the challenges thrown to him. I like the interaction between the two main characters. There are a lot to be learned from this story - from politics, cultivation, human nature particularly betrayal, greed, deception....... more>> This is actually challenge to my critical thinking skill. Overall I love this novel (I wish I can read chinese so I can finish the story. Actually I already read the completed version in another site but nothing compares to novelupdates english translation). I Will still read this one again and again😃. <<less

The beautiful donghua compelled me to read the danmei. The donghua was so beautiful, it probably pulled non-wuxia fans to read this, but be aware that the novel is 95% wuxia lore, with archetypal characters of the genre. The 2 protags are indeed typical of the genre. What makes them stand out for me is probably because of the awesome donghua.

To those who are familiar with wuxia, Thousand Autumns typically explores common themes to the wuxia genre: the complexity of good vs evil, the juxtaposition of 2 protags who are... more>> polar opposites, indepth look into wuxia lore, righteous sects who are only righteous in name... and very little romance lol...
At the core of this novel are 2 protags who are typical representatives of their sects and who, essentially, never change and remain steadfast in their principles and temperament. Adorable Daoist Shen Qiao, fulltime mountain recluse prior to meeting ML, manages to retain his purity of heart and his daoist ideals, despite all the betrayals. His views became more nuanced after his travels and tribulations. At the extreme opposite is another unforgettable character, Yan Wushi, archetype leader of a demon sect, but not exactly OP. All his actions, thoughts, words and behaviours are dictated by his unrepentent cynicism, detachment and amorality (not immorality, there is a difference). His interactions with Shen Qiao, slowly (very slowly) changed him... but not a big change and that's what I liked. Yan Wushi is not gonna OOC and turn into a Disney villain trope. He remains essentially the same till the end, willing to compromise only for Shen Qiao, who he considers unique. He knows he made a mistake and goes about correcting it. He is not looking to redeem himself, which is why he never asks for forgiveness.
Romance is, as expected, very slow to develop for such a couple who are more akin to be enemies rather than friends. You only get a little bit of fluff towards the end and in the extras.
The only thing that bothered me is that some sentences and facts keep being repeated in every chapter. I know this is typical web novel format, but still, author could have tone down on the repetition. <<less

This novel is interesting so far but I am afraid that I can't binge read it because of the translation. I am loving MC and ML both so much. Their cute interactions are too much for my docile heart XD. MC's journey together with ML while Discovering lots of new thing about the world after getting back stabbed by his own shidi is a worth read. I loved it from the beginning and loving it so far. MC is so heart warming. The character growth is so good and... more>> ofcourse ML is evil like villain here and use the MC as a guinea pig but even so MC doesn't fall in the darkness and maintain his own virtues. He is kind but not naive, looks weak but hella strong.

...... It's just that both of them are so adorable and of course so powerful and menacing. UwU I am loving it.... Also it is quite underrated.. it deserves more spotlight in my opinion..

I apologize if there are any mistakes above since this is my first time writing a review about a novel...

Hence, do not hesitate to read it and just go for it, you'll be hooked for sure. <<less

Great story just be prepared for the fact that the ML is definitely a bad guy through and through. Wen Kexing has nothing on him, in fact, probably even Meng Yao and Xue Yang aren't as bad as Yan Wushi. Yep, that's how bad I'm talking about. Like, okay, it's one thing to seek revenge on the people who did you wrong but Yan Wushi takes it a step further by not only hurting innocent people who have done nothing to him but betraying people who have been nothing but... more>> good to him. For example the MC. I'm not sure I can get past that personally? Because he never apologises for it and doesn't seem to feel any regret.

Another thing: this doesn't quite measure up to Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation for me and I think it might have something to do with the fact that this novel doesn't really deal with feelings and emotions and the backstories of any characters. Like we know almost nothing about the MC's childhood, except that his parents died when he was young. Nothing about how he felt about being an orphan or any person stuggles he experienced. Same with the ML, he's a pretty evil character, definitely on the grey side of the moral scale and yet we're never told why or even given a hint for how he became like that.

If you're looking for romance, I'm not sure I'd recommend this. If you're looking for a great plot and adventure with a little romance, go for it! <<less

i don't really know how to describe how much I love this novel... it's just so good. melancholic vibes. made me cry a couple times because I got so frustrated and hurt. lots of emotions expressed in here, such as lowering your expectations for someone you love, hit really hard... like. a little too close to home lol.

i still hesitate to ship the main couple because yan wushi is pretty awful but the interactions between him and shen qiao and their relationship are incredibly complex. if you can read the... more>> raws you really should. writing is very high quality. drawbacks are the same drawbacks that are typical of most danmei series but significantly lesser. I love this novel a lot <<less

Now this is what I call a GOOD novel!

Interesting characters, good plot, and a great MC and ML. What more could you ask for?

This is a cultivation novel that uses martial arts and sword cultivation. It does what many other bl cultivation novels don't do, which is actually explain or actively use their cultivation.

MC starts off weak, naive and soft. But actually learns from these experiences and grows as a person. He keeps a kind heart and stays true to his ways, but learns to be firm and doesn't hesitate... more>> to destroy people who would continuously oppose him... Except ML, but that's only because the guy was useful and later on too strong to be killed. His people saving him was rather annoying because those characters barely even appeared again.

Spoiler

I hated that he took in those disciples. Except for the royal kid who was talented and smart, the other two just seemed like a waste. Is he gonna open an orphanage disguised as a martial arts learning center??

I got really annoyed when he mentioned that he preferred an honest heart over actual talent. An honest heart isn't going to run your sect in the future dude. I don't think he plans to nurture talent >_>

[collapse]

ML is really great. If you've ever seen the 'insane' tag on a ML... this one will NOT disappoint you. He really is crazy, and his personality isn't destroyed for the sake of romance either. There's no 'love at first sight' or 'obsession at first sight' cliches. He really is as demonic as you'd expect a demonic sect leader to be. His personality and his views of the world are very unorthodox. Lots of funny scenes with this guy. I will say tho, he is an a**hole.

If there are a few things I'd like to complain about...

- Romance is super slow.

Don't expect instant romance or any form of romance for a while. They only start interacting regularly after a lot of chapters, which was kinda annoying, and they work on trusting each other first.

Spoiler

With how ML continuously betrayed and hurt MC, and the way MC harbored intense distrust and barely tolerated him....I honestly don't think they're a very compatible pair. They still don't seem like a compatible pair even after all that. They learned to trust each other and love each other, but they haven't talked about those betrayals and ML very much would like to forget his past actions instead of apologizing. Hm.

[collapse]

- Extras don't really seem like extras.

Yes there's fluff and whatever. But some of them hint at future events, which is a little confusing since the novel already ended.

- The ending was rather abrupt.

Dont let this stop you from reading. There's enough fluff in the extras to make up for it.

Spoiler

They just ended it when a certain ML showed that he was alive after defeating the main boss. It literally ended the moment he spoke. -sigh-

Interaction between MC and ML is hilarious. I enjoy the story.. But I eventually become fed up with the ML attitude.

The MC is good natured but there r times that he's really s*upid/hypocrite. There's no sane person that will forgive and trust someone repeatedly. It's okay to keep saving the ML (for his conscience and his "goal") but to keep being by his side and become the ML's clown/dog,.. That is s*upidity.

MC could still be a good person and do good things and cautious at the same time (like some... more>> scenes in the story). But since this is danmei, his cautiousness is not applicable to MC. ? Though ML has really a twisted personality (keeps betraying the MC, letting the MC suffer-physically and emotionally, always push the MC to the brink of death and vomit blood due to severe injuries), he's not really evil. At least he didn't force himself to the MC <<less

rating rounded down because yws makes me petty

if you're starting this novel because you want to read a romance story, reduce your expectations to zero. you're interested in intricate politics, you will... probably also have some complaints.

the story follows our MC, shen qiao, a taoist sect leader who starts off very clueless about the world outside of his sect. he's not stuрid by any means, but his sect had been secluded from the world long before he took over the mantle of the sect leader, and he simply continued the... more>> tradition. in classic wuxia fashion, he falls off of a cliff following a defeat in a challenge and he loses consciousness (as well as his memories.. and eyesight.. it was not a good day for him). the one who finds him in this miserable position is our ml, yan wushi, a demonic cultivator who is aware of mc's identity and determined to give him a cruel wake-up call about the world and the people. we see a clash of two very different people with conflicting ideals- and neither is willing to bend. the interactions between the two make up for most of the novel, and we get to know them as well as they get to know each other. aside from the dilemmas over humanity this novel poses, it also just gives us a lot of cool fighting scenes (MC is in his magical girl era as he gets new powers while recovering from his heavy injuries).

personally, I'm fine with the main characters carrying the plot- I'm not expecting the modern concept of close friend groups in a wuxia setting- but i'd still have liked to have had more well-rounded side characters with stories of their own. admittedly, that probably would've oversaturated the plot a bit, considering the fact that you already have to keep up with intricacies of court politics in a semi-real historical setting as well as the relationships between opposing sects of jianghu. that being said, the plot revolving around politics isn't overwhelming or hard to follow (and if it is, you could actually just turn to wikipedia and read about the dynasties in question). heads up though- we're learning about these things mostly through the medium of yws' critic-heavy narration, which is as cynical as it is informative, so take it with a grain of salt if you're interested in the real historical people mentioned here.

the main characters can make or break a novel and yan wushi was working overtime to try and do both. if this guy doesn't make you feel some very conflicting emotions, you probably don't understand him very well. he's a scumbag extraordinaire, but he is not the villain (а villain though- sure). despite the fact that he is the love interest, yws is not a loving person and he will disappoint you at any and every given chance. yet despite the fact that he does some pretty unforgivable things (which I have taken into consideration when giving the rating), he's still a lot of people's favorite (yeah, mine as well, nothing to say in his or my defense here).

fortunately, such a headstrong ML is balanced by the just as stubborn mc. shen qiao may be described as a fragile-looking beauty every few pages, but there is so much strength underneath the surface that you can't help but admire him (even when you see him trampled again and again for choosing to stay kind and put his trust in humanity). "after a thousand autumns, who could stay eternal?" this guy! this guy could! I'm wrecking my brains to find anything to complain about when it comes to him (other than his questionable taste in men, apparently). he's definitely the one who goes through the most character development in the novel (both regarding his mentality and sword skills; god, I love sq with a sword).

another thing, regarding the myriad of complaints against the cp dynamics: it's repeatedly shown that there are limits to sq's patience and kindness- he's not some weakling who can't stand up for himself, not even when he's blind and without memories. which means, even though the fandom consensus is that he deserves only the best, what he chooses is... the piece of sh*t ml. yeah, yws is annoying, and manipulative, but that is never a hidden trait of his: sq knows what he's getting into. it's not fair to compare their story to that of other couples: they're not a jerk x jerk soulmate couple like wenzhou, there's no grand romantic gestures à la hua cheng, and ML definitely hasn't attended lan wangji's school of loyalty. what qian qiu does have is a wonderful tale of its own- but only if you're willing to see it for what it is. (love doesn't always have to be about undeniable attraction and sеx- sometimes it's just about finding someone you want by your side as the world burns down, even if that someone is the person who lit the match.)

tw for non-con kisses as well as mentions/threats of rapе (mostly in the context of a sect that practices dual-cultivation, MC crosses ways with them quite a few times and it's.. unpleasant)

(sidenote: I'm really glad an official tl is coming soon because I was struggling. snowycodex starts off great but then you have to switch to a different tl for 70-85, then dig around a bit for chapters 86-90 (and there are great developments in there!) and finally pick up where superglue continues in a very different style (and mtl is a no-go for me if I have even an ounce of respect for the author's writing). if you're not already invested in the plot, this might be a bit of a deterrent, but my reading experience didn't suffer much from it.) <<less

What would you do if you came across a man like Shen Qiao?

A man who is so extremely kind, to the point that you might think he is just a naive sightless bastard, but then you come to realize that he's so indulging just because he chose to be and chose to believe that kindness exists in humans, so no matter how many trials and tribulations he suffers, he accepts them with a gentle smile. So insanely warm that the warmth blows you away.

What would you do if you came... more>> across this man?

Fall in love with him, of course.

And if said man were in a book as a protagonist, you would quite obviously fall in love with the book as well.

This is one book where the plot didn't make it great, but rather the characters did. Not that the plot was any inferior, but the nature of humans portrayed in this book is something I genuinely loved to read, and I know many will come to love as well.

Yan Wushi is not the purest character out there, he's so morally gray that it gets on your nerves, but he can't help but grow on you as you progress into the plot. In my opinion, even though Shen Qiao could do with someone much better than Yan Wushi, I cannot picture him with anyone else but Yan Wushi.

I enjoyed reading this book so much, and I don't think I'd find many who didn't. It wasn't too hard to read in terms of language, and it was easy to follow the plot and the politics that one would encounter reading Thousand Autumns.

I don't know if I should call them plot holes, but I do have questions that were left unanswered.

Spoiler

Questions like, what was Yan Wushi's past? Since we seemed to see a bit of his caution in Xie Ling, I wish the author had given us his life story alongside Shen Qiao's.

[collapse]

The world-building was great, and although the novel starts quite randomly, it was easy to get hooked.

I definitely recommend it! <<less

To even out all the five star reviews, here are my thoughts on this book:

Very politically dense with tons and tons of side characters. I found it hard to keep track of everyone, every new arc introduced at least five new characters minimum, and it felt like it took a while to slog through the explanations and backstories of each arc.

Couldn't get over what Yan Wushi has done to Shen Qiao and completely support him as a character, and it impacted my enjoyment of the romance. Lots of other reviews... more>> talk more in depth about Yan Wushi and YMMV with how much you enjoy him as a character.

I got tired of all the comparisons of who is the strongest and how x person is just a tiny bit stronger/weaker than y person, or how this normie cant possibly even comprehend how puny he is to persons x and y. I didn't find it compelling to have all this constant comparison and how everyone was constantly obsessing over this list of the most powerful cultivators. It also took out some of the suspense in the plot and the fights, like removing some aspects of mystery and telegraphing the outcomes or making it easier to guess twists. It also just was talked about too much.

I felt like Shen Qiao was presented as having this sort of pure morality and open mindedness, but that he was judgmental and harsh against some characters in unreasonable ways, especially considering that he ultimately gets with a man
Spoiler

who literally sold him to a sadistic rapist for a scrap of metal he didn't even want. The main instance I'm thinking about is the dude who betrayed him because he was threatened with s*xual s*avery. Like damn dude, if some rich ass dudes were threatening me at sword point to sell me into s*xual s*avery I'd probably betray this guy I had just met too, especially knowing that he's kinda actually secretly powerful. And then the fact that Shen Qiao was still harsh about it when Yan Wushi did basically the same thing to him but worse because Yan Wushi did it unprovoked and his life and freedom wasn't endanger. Double standards much. Maybe if the dude had a tiddy window as majestic as YWS's he woulda been even slightly understood by SQ. I will say the other dude, Chen Gong I think? He obviously wasn't a white lotus or anything, he had a lot of flaws and made obvious climbs for power, but I couldnt help but feel like Shen Qiao was more critical of poor/weak people seeking and obtaining power and wealth than people who were already powerful or wealthy doing the same.

. There were some other moments where I was like "???" with the moral choices Shen Qiao made but that one I remember the most clearly. I didn't feel like Shen Qiao had a lot going on with his personality besides being "morally upright" and his relationship with Yan Wushi.

All this being said, the couple is still kinda fun and there are parts of the story that are still compelling. The donghua is a ton of fun; if you aren't certain on the book you might try giving the donghua a chance first, it'll help you sort out some of the characters mentally too. <<less

I read it every moment I have free time because the story have high review and its completed but the story left a bad taste in my heart afterwards. It was probably I was rooting for ML being pure and strong, overcoming all despite of things that befallen on him. I was dissapointing for him to allow to be taken advantage to the point of mol*st and abuse. Middle of the book I start to wonder of he will also find a way to win over passive when evil or... more>> malice is taking advantage of him. He appeared to be passive of it in guise of not wanting to harbor hate even if his dignity is being trampled on. Bad company truly corrupt good morals. This not the kind of ML I expected to have evolve. His martial arts skills evolved as trials came and he even completely rebuilt his skills even when his foundation was destroyed. But the other side of his went downward as trials and tempter pester him. Instead of finding a way as a true overcomer as true thecway of Dao, his passive attitude succumb to it in the end. Not my type of novel and just revealed the heart and intent of the author. At first enjoyed reading it but the whole ending left a very bad taste in my palate. Muddying what is pure. Just like the novel that started pure and good, there's a chapter in the end that left a repulsive feeling.... SMH... <<less

This novel is awesome, amazing, a master piece. Beautiful storyline, slow burn romance, amazing fight scenes. Thanks also to the translators who were able to convey the poetical aspects of the scenes. MC is such a lovable character, you just fall in love with him. He is strong, can fend for himself, not one who needs to be saved each and every time by the ML, even if ML does come and save him sometimes, yes not all the time. The slow burn is perfect. Great character development of the... more>> MC. The ML is evil but not despicable. It's a beautiful novel worth reading and re reading, and I must say I just can't have enough of it. The author is as usual awesome. <<less

I watched the first few episodes of the donghua and was pleasantly surprised to find so much of the novel translated. This is really about 95% a straight up wuxia novel with the get together ultimately happening in the extras (a true slow burn!), but the conflict between Shen Qiao and Yan Wushi's different life philosophies and how they navigate the upheavals in both the martial arts and political world, as well as warm up to each other despite being polar opposites makes for some enjoyable reading.

I appreciate the author... more>> never really redeeming Yan Wushi, but that is also probably my one warning - he will do some awful things to Shen Qiao at the beginning and he will not feel bad about it. <<less

Well... from where do I even start?...

First, mmmm...... this has been the 2nd best novel (after TGCF, 'from my opinion') I have ever read!!! This ranking of mine will never change.

It has an excellent plot and u will even want more of it. The MC is such a gentle, kind and a cutie pie >v<. He always stays positive minded even when it he who is been criticized and never fails to make people feel comfortable with him around them. I wish I could hug him ~_~. The ML.... like... more>> always a 'hard headed' one, he's not that evil which is the first thing what comes in people's minds whenever they think of him. He isn't that bad how they think he is. But yea he will melt by the the MC's glares anyways.

It is the type of cultivation novel where there is martial arts together with not-too-deep politics, which is fun to read and I love it!!

If u want to read a novel where the lead character is harsh and also not harsh on the main character at the beginning, but later admits his lose himself and is soft with the MC, then this is the 1st on the recommendation list for u.

THIS NOVEL IS A 'MUST' TO READ!!! <<less

*sees that it has been months since the last update*

Me: Okay, I'm gonna go cry some tears of frustration in a corner.

The translation is very good (well done, translators!). I'm so looking forward to the next chapter.

Damn, so far, this novel is amazing. Our main character Shen Qiao is an absolute darling, kinda like Xie Lian, with how soft-hearted and kind they are to the common people. And despite facing tons of betrayals, Shen Qiao still remains kind and true to himself (someone, protect this baby). However, Shen Qiao can... more>> be ruthless towards evil people when he wants to. As for our main lead, Yan Wushi.... I don't know if I hate him or not. Seriously, when you're starting to think that he's finally having feelings for our Shen Qiao, he goes and does something horrible. But I guess that's something good because we can't just expect such a complex character to suddenly have a change of heart. Anyway, I love the plot so far and the slow burn romance between the two characters, just makes it more realistic because these two definitely need more moments to develop their feelings towards each other. <<less
