I Can Do It

For a certain LoL competition, a certain online streamer famous for pissing people off was currently explaining and broadcasting it at the same time.

Streamer: This support, so tr*sh.

Streamer: If that jungler was my teammate, I would already be idling at the fountain and playing piano for him by now.

Streamer: I recommend that this player go back and properly practice how to last hit.

Audience: What bullshit! If you’re any better, then you do it!

Streamer: I, your dad, really can do it.

Audience: Okokok. If you can do it then I’ll chop off my head so you can kick it.

A few months later, the LPL’s veteran pro team TTC announced a new mid laner. A boy with flashy blue hair appeared in front of the audience and played Zed to utter perfection, killing everyone he saw, causing all the female fans to begin toeing the line of infidelity.

During the MVP interview after the match, everyone held their breath and eagerly watched this newcomer.

Only to see the boy accept the microphone, smile and ask, “That water friend with the StarTV user ID ‘Suburb King 101,’ my team’s address is on the official website, when will you be mailing your head over?”

After a certain regular season match finished, the staff member went backstage to urge the team members to go onstage and conduct their interviews, only to see TTC’s new mid laner and jungler standing in the corner.

TTC’s number one ace · jungler daddy Road pressed their team’s new mid laner Soft against the wall. He lowered his eyes and asked slowly, “In the interview later, do you know what to do?”

That quick-tempered mid laner, who had solidified his image as a troll in the audience’s eyes the very first time he went on stage, was currently blushing completely red. “I know. I won’t curse at anyone… I definitely won’t curse at anyone.”

To fully appreciate this novel

First, you know how to play LoL or at least have knowledge about the game. Second, you at least played online games because of some gaming terms. Third, you have enough patience, like me, to google the LoL characters and some terms used by the author.

I love this novel, it has a lot of funny moments and fluff but I decided to take half star away because how the author depicted the Korean HT players and China-Korean arc.

Spoiler

It's a little uncomfortable how the supposed to be villains (Korean HT players) are described as with pimples, looks mediocre, total jerks and the cheating incident that one of them committed where the committee turned blind eye to it because it was held in Korea and they are Koreans themselves, I mean really??? It's very unprofessional, although I'm not sure if this is based on the real event that happened during some competitions. Villains can also be good looking too, badass players but jerks lol. But how come they are ugly from the inside out??

[collapse]

Anyway, this is an enjoyable read especially Pine and Xiao Bai's extra story, it's cute and sweet!!! I also love Savior and Xiu, poor Ding-ge... lmao! 4.5 for me. <<less

I'm ashamed to admit but I found the parts where the gameplay was explained extremely boring to read so I usually skimmed past those parts.. Probably cause i've never played LoL before and know nothing about it but I still liked the streamer/pro gamer aspect it was interesting.

Also I'm not a big fan of this age difference, personally i'd feel weird dating an 18 year old if I was 23 but there's nothing actually wrong about it I guess.

Oh and this was quite a slow burn, got kinda boring at... more>> some parts but it did make me laugh a lot as well (the stream chat was probably the best part of the story) <<less

DISCLAIMER: Normally, I don’t write reviews but ICDI really made my heart ache. Not that I think its bad but its aching because I did not want it to end. 😭 134 chapters is just too little. However, its really fun and fluffy. Kudos!

*Marked down 1 star for anti-Korean sentiments & unfair portrayal of RIOT games*

Why read this novel: I love this novel. Hands-down one of the best novels e-sports novels that has been fully translated. Jian Rong’s (MC) acerbic comments gave me chapter after chapter of laughs and Lu Boyuan’s (ML) interactions with JR were so precious. The plot was really captivating and JR’s background as a streamer was something fresh and had set this novel apart from the other esports novels. I would highly recommend reading this novel if you haven’t !!

It’s also very non-gamer friendly and I would say that the gaming aspects of the novel were very well written and translated. So much so that I believe even non-gamers wouldn’t miss out and be able to ‘feel’ the atmosphere during the competition. I didn’t find it a bore to read the competition pick and bans and how the matches went also.

What I didn’t like: Vilifying descriptions along national lines.
Yes, I understand that any team from any nationality could’ve been the villain, and the need for dramatisation since it is a novel. But you really can’t excuse the fact that the author explicitly wrote how the referees and organisers had been biased simply because they were Koreans and the matches were held ‘on home-ground’. Other insinuations that Chinese teams were not being treated well by the organisers were also off-putting. As someone who watches league games, this is sad to see. Anything goes in fictional world, but the gross portrayal of RIOT games as impartial organisers is demeaning to the work that they have shown the audience the past few years. Have some respect for the game that you are premising your story on. (Side note: If anything, Tencent now owns RIOT games so you can guess who the organisers are likely to side)

To those who say that anti-Korean sentiments are justified because so-so also wrote anti-so-and-so views in some other novel: Having another novel writing xenophobic stuff doesn’t make what the author wrote in this novel not xenophobic.

I can do it? Yes, this novel can do better.

The anti-Korean sentiments written doesn’t diminish the good work put out by the author and translation team but it’s not right to excuse what they wrote as well.

Rating: 4/5- As usual from this author, an enjoyable, fun loving read.

I liked the characters and the story had a good pace. Personally didn’t like it as much as the other two books by this author but I was able to read until the end and it wasn’t bad.

I'm bad at reviewing, I've never doin' it before.

If I rate based on the storyline, I give 5 stars. If it's based the MC I give 6 start (lol).

of all the types of E-sport novels I've read. I can said this nvl realy make me reread even if the ch. Not completely yet. And now it's complete, I'll reread again (lol).

... more>> especially behavior the MC. His meaning name's "soft" but his tr*sh talking, lol. So funny and hilarious. HAHAHAHA I love his mouth so much.

and I see, a lot people giving four stars down is related to Xenophobhia issues (did I spelled correctly?). I don't rl like that part either too. If the author provides an unknown or disguised identity (like country M or Y for example), it probably won't be a problem. But unfortunately the author really refers to Korean e-sport.

but in this novel the author also does not refer to all korean E-sport. We've good too.

relationship between ML and MC. I can't say it's slow-burn but also can't say too fast. Normal development like in real world. (Perhaps when compared to other novels, this is indeed slow-burning because they've been together in ch. 100 more //if I nt forget 😂//). But don't worry they interact always interest and sweet even if before together.

not just them. Everyone too~ their interact can make you Laugh so hard until rolled on the floor. The stream comments/ soft parental fans really make me wanna join a part of them too.

Thanks you so much to the translator and uploader! <<less

I give it 5 stars but if MC played Teemo I would give it +1 extra star!

I would love more story at start of his early day of streaming in more detail. The water dads are the best from beginning to the end, they are hilarious, cute and caring for our MC.

What I enjoyed the most is still small touch here and there everywhere and everyone gaydar seems broken. ;)

If you asked me I feel like the story is too short and I want the E-sports to go international... more>> but that is just my small wish... I hate when good thing have to end... but I enjoyed my stay.

I missed you water dads... you are unique and I can't find you on any other "story" :' (

I will be back and reread again ❤ <<less

One of the best!!

I read this straight and I missed a lot of sleep time because of this. The main couple is good, I love how cute the MC is, how OP the ML. Too bad there’s no smut lol.

I wish there’s more on the side couple tho coz I really shipped them so bad since their appearance in the novel.

There's an indescribable feeling that emerges when you finally indulge in a work you've been camping for since 8 months ago... but now I'm sad because I finished too fast for my own sanity shooooooooot

If you like FOG or any gaming-themed BL stories, then be sure to check this novel, created by none other than JIANG ZI BEIIIIII (works: PUBG, Guide on How to Fail at Online Dating). Personally, I still think PUBG is my favorite out of the three works I've read from this author & only because it... more>> hits all of my sweet spots. I recommend all three of them nonetheless because I think the gameplay, couple dynamic, & side characters/CPs are all pretty great. The stories are paced well, characters have errr-character to them... they're just really worthwhile reads!

Enough advertis**ent now! I Can Do It is very reminiscent of FOG. It could be because of the whole same team couple setting or how our cute shou has one snarky mouth & temper. The couple dynamic of "I'll insult everyone but you" screams soooo much dog-food & inflicts me with both sweetness & pain (over how lonely I am). As a former LoL player (I played for like 2 weeks guys don't take me seriously), I loved reading through the gameplays. I swear this author does ample research & I think it's pretty fluid each time. I'm not bothered by heavy info-dumps & I can smoothly ease my way into understanding the mechanics. A bit of warning though: as much as I enjoy reading the broadcast commentary because it technically is fun... there are moments where things are too much. I understand that it may be to paint a picture that the gaming industry is not all just fun, games, & glory. People are still prone to slander, insults, & just heavy online abuse. But if you're not someone with a lot of tolerance over these things, then just tread lightly & carefully. Xenophobia & flame wars aside, just read it for the fluff.

There are some holes that I'm hoping the extras may patch up. I'm eagerly waiting for them to finish translating! <<less

I love almost everything that's happened (. ❛ ᴗ ❛.) However, I wonder if it would be possible to not use countries that are from reality because it's uncomfortable to read. And I'm not saying this from just this one novel; but from multiple ones, especially from the E-Sports genre.

There's also the minimal female characters that are competitive gamers and not just from the streamer category. I'm not saying that they should be completely made into saints but there shouldn't be so much animosity either. This novel had only... more>> one that was named and she wasn't a bad person either; there was even the point that the MC made as to why the either person wasnt punished as well which was nice.

ANYWAYSSSS!!!! I'll be waiting for more Soft Dad and crew's adventures! (☆▽☆) <<less

This is a cute funny story and easy read. It's a good read to take your mind off of things for a bit. The MC's character shines without coming off as a total Gary Stu and ML is not one of those typical cold faced domineering types. The relationships are not problematic.

What stands out is the way the author uses netizens comments. I usually hate these in stories because it's used to set up some face-slapping or further prop up the MC/ML's characters and the comments aren't funny and just... more>> a waste of space. But here, the comments are pretty funny and have "personality" to them. It adds to the MC's character that's not all about propping. So kudos to the author for pulling it off.

Like other reviewers have pointed out, the con is the xenophobia. But it's not as bad as I've seen in other novels that has me dropping the book entirely. I do skip over those parts and you won't miss anything if you do too. <<less

But if I have to say something the story is really good and sweet. I like the e-sport part and how the relationship is not rushed and how every character has his own personality.

Okay so this is a little bit of plot. Excuse me for the spoiler..

So after the rules of his live streaming platform updated, his live stream was suspended because of him being underage. Without his ‘job’, he needs to find one. Thus sends an application to his Idol to become a professional player. He’s on his way to abuse the professional players even more.

started reading this novel against my own reason and logic. started it at 11 pm and pulled an all nighter reading it... unfortunate but not unexpected.

loved it. OP MC who's strong, sarcastic, and the gentlest ML ever, honestly. ML spoils MC so much ever since the start, it's actually so fluffy. I don't think I would have been able to take how much the MC embarrassed himself and was like shy in front of the ML if the ML weren't that gentle and pampering towards him. not much drama at... more>> all, basically just happy fluff. cute side characters, satisfying slice of life. definitely recommend. <<less
