I am a princess, moreover, I am a fool of a princess.

Born in the imperial palace, my appearance is as average as that of the white radish and cabbages in the fields. Throughout the four seasons of the year, my face is always displaying a dull expression, eyes forever shrouded in haze.

But in reality, I know of the secrets within this palace.

Including hers, his, and theirs.

Just leisurely living my days comfortably in the palace like this, I firmly believe I can continue to play dumb to the end.

Taking your hand, dragging you away. Not leaving, you say? Very well, close the doors and release the hounds. (Expressionless face)

All I want to say is that It is a great story. The MC is likeable and the ML is great too.

MC's attitude is very nice, she wants out of complicated things but becomes the one who knows a lot of secrets around her. Her attitude is that, if you throw her out of the house, her life will be great.

ML is ... more>>
Spoiler

He's MC's cousin. Not a biological one. His mother had an affair with other man. So him and MC are not blood related. I like his decisive attitude. He's set on what he want and like. Unlike the other Characters who like the MC. Example, HLC has a lot of consorts or concubine or that MSJ f*cks lots of random women.

[collapse]

Okay, most character I hate, MSJ that scum. I hate him more than all the women who likes the ML combined. He's a manipulative scum who only has his own interest in mind. Dont respect MC and forces MC. He can die and I'll be happy. Idc if he has a sad past, that doesnt give him right to play the MC like oh I love you but I will marry this girl cause I need my revenge so just stay here locked up and and wait for me. Like nah bro. She doesnt even like you. Delusional bish.

Anyway, the writing style is actually making me bored and dizzy. Ahahaha havent had good sleep for a while. But its actually good. <<less

Lots of frustrating moments. The male lead didn't really call out to me. How did he consider himself as doting? He always had the final say. Also, if MC didn't ever love him back, it's pretty obvious he still wouldn't ever let her go. And I also didn't really agree with mc's ideal person being just someone who loves you the most. No, you should fall in love with a person for his personality, regardless if he loves you back or not. So basically, if someone else loved her more... more>> than ml, she would just choose that other guy instead, right? Even if I really liked MC, I don't quite identify with her as the narrator. Would have liked her as a friend tho.

It's still a good book, so I'm gonna give it a 4.5. <<less

I love the female lead so much... her personality is so interesting and refreshing.

Not interesting just because she is 'different', as in modern women and different from other female characters, but genuinely interesting as in if she is real, I want to befriend her.

The author is great in making a really intense atmosphere but not so straightforward. I'm not sure how to describe it, maybe like powerful undercurrent of a calm lake? Overall, it's very gripping but the aloofness of the MC balanced the dramatic plot, making it a strange... more>> but beautiful story.

The translator did a good job keeping that atmosphere. Every conversation that the MC had flows very well, and good word choice as well. <<less

How I wish Ah Lan's bıtchass sister from her past life also transmigrated and turned into Ying Lu's pet pig so they can slowly roast her in the fire since her soul is as dark, if not darker, than a bbq 🤬🤬 My god was she hateful along with her scum and biased af parents!!! Its a bittersweet happy ending?

I love how the FL is awesome, she is sleepy, foodie, sneaky, mischievous and stone faced like it makes my heart giggle.

The ML kinda makes up for the creepiness? So good for him

... more>> Im not good a reviews, these are my ramblings but 4/5 its a good read if you want to feel multiple small piercings in your body. It doesnt hurt that much but still stings.

The ending makes sense but at the same time I'm disappointed cause I really really care about sibling relationships, like its my kryptonite and my Vitamin D, so I wanted more.

P.S. Thank you for translating this wonderful novel, opened my eyes on how novels with female leads can be with this kind of character, definitely interesting.

P.P.S.
Spoiler

Yan You deserves better, the author did him dirty, like I get that his new life should bring him new opportunities and should be enough but the author made it look like he could never love again, it just left us with this ending that he is left alone. Like come on... thats harsh

I don't get this MC.

The first 17 chapters I'm like "why are you just letting stuff happen to you - why you do this" chapter 18/19 I'm thinking "I'll finally figure it out", but I don't.

I'm not huge on stories where the MC is blown around like a leaf and the plot is just wind. ? Too frustrating. ? Not sure how this is so highly rated, but it's not my cup of tea.. ☕

I finished this book. Had to force myself to at times. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with a weak MC but... I'm too used to having OP MCs that this was just less... enjoyable...

Author also needs to learn the meaning of flow. The random side stories from other character's POV was just... jarring. I mean, at least warn me beforehand.

I only read the first translated chapter and I think the translator did a pretty good job of it.

MC sounds a bit whiney at times. She's definitely weak but she doesn't seem to think she's weak? You know, until someone who can beat her in a fight comes along (that's like everyone else in the story). Also the love interests were annoying. The ML was annoying too. They're too possessive, bordering on yandere. They seem to want to hurt the MC if she doesn't listen to them. THAT IS NOT LOVE!!!

I almost wished the MC had the balls to commit su*cide more than 5 times in the book...

The first half was stronger than the last, and it had a weak finish. Ah Lan was initially a very amusing character, though often got herself into unrealistic situations. But the number of ridiculously attractive but psycho men started to pile up crazily - you might feel some sympathy and affection for one of them, only for the feelings to die a chapter or two later under a flood of rage and disgust. As much as I found Ah Lan amusing, it honestly didn’t make sense that she was so... more>> popular that they were obsessed to the point of ruination. Several countries are at stake here, pull yourselves together FFS. <<less

Sailing trough a Chinese historical-romance themed novel, the story centralized with a transmigrated passive character in the midst of power strife among three Kingdoms. The MC is one that you'll find refreshing albeit like that one nonchalant transmigrated MC. The overall story was interesting and carried a good message about betrayal, loyalty, and one's happiness through the lenses of a passive reincarnated character. It is more lighter compared to heavy historical-politic themed novel since it's mainly focused on the MC. And the charming point of the story is that the level of heaviness, romance, and comedy are balanced. But unfortunately, I find the MC being kidnapped for consecutive times is a bit repetitive. Other than that, the writing style had hooked me with the use of satire, analogs, idiom and proverbs.

In addition, I find that the use of 1st pov is interguing. I thought the 1st pov is used well as it not only focuses on the MC but also keeping a good amount of info about the other characters' feeling but never their full thought. Thus, the 1st pov become the media to guess other's real thought by observing their actions and dialogues. It interesting at the same time reading from 1st pov as we see the mc's internalisation acting like a fool, but it got me a closer understanding of her motivation and purposes for doing so. So, I believe the way the pov is written is something that drove me to the end of the story.

Meanwhile, the characters are quite dynamic with their interesting background. Though, the author could have done more about the characters' development for the potential male leads. Because I find them a bit similar from one another like that typical tragic ML candidates who are obsessed with the MC. And the way they intimately interact with the MC are no different from one another. In addition, I thought that the MC actions is a bit inconsistent with her personality after getting harassed by them as if always feel helpless even if she is physically weaker (But considering her modern mindset she could have done like jab the third leg [excuse me for the example])

[collapse]

To conclude, the overall aspect of the novel is good. But I hope the story had been longer to provide other's pov on the main story. But the little extra chapters did the justice to give more depth on the plot.

P.S. Props to the translation team and author~ <<less

Dang, I really love this story.

First of all, the realism of the MC is so striking. She's suffered, and as a result keeps her defenses up, no longer able to trust.

All the MLs are so complicated. The character development in this story is pretty great, and the plot and world-building is fantastic as well. Basically, the story is about our pitiable MC caught up in the political disputes of three countries as she pretends to be a fool. Every character is rich in backstory and growth.

Truthfully, I really love that... more>> the "love" in this story is not the passionate romantic love free of all other influences. Every single one of the MLs make you think "is his love for her true? Does he actually love her?". However, what does it matter what the "why" behind the love is? If you find someone you can't forget, someone who knows you so thoroughly, someone willing to stay true to only you in this lifetime, isn't that good enough?

Normally, I'm not of romances where the ML is ridiculously in love with MC for seemingly no reason. Here, I find it's actually fine. Maybe it's because she is the only one to know all his secrets, and he just couldn't bear to kill her, that he finds himself turning to her again and again. Maybe it's more possessiveness than true love. However, so what? Who cares about "why"?

I also quite like YY's side story near the end. Honestly, I feel bad for the guy; in my eyes, he's a better man than all the other MLs at least. He may have been indecisive and cowardly, hurting her irreparably in the past, but it can't be denied that he would absolutely treat her like a treasure in the future. However, it just so happens his opponent is the one person in the world that would be that much better to her. Perhaps her lasting mark in his heart is mostly due to guilt rather than love, but I believe he does truly love her. Which is why he is willing to back down. I hope he does become happy in the future.

(But An Qing that b*tch, let's not talk about her). <<less

It's a well-written novel, definitely a different take on this genre. I like the female lead but I hate how the love interests are so overbearing as usual C-novels. Good story and translation. I dare to say this is the best reverse harem for the C-novel genre I've ever come across! I really love Ah Lan, such a level-headed and wonderful MC overall.

A couple years ago I read thru 20 chapters, there were about 40 translated then? Im hoping that reading another 20 will redeem it to finish. Since I'm bored right now, I am willing to try. BTW I rated 1 star and I can't change it even though it is showing 4.5 >:c I MEAN IT! ONE Star! Kudos to the translator for marching thru to the end!

I am trying again but even with better translation, I can't see how people can think this MC is cute or funny or... more>> interesting. Yeah this plot is different but just because something is different does not mean it is good.

The Hero Halo on this MC is even more beyond belief than usual. Her Plot Armor is top tier but the player is inept

She has no great personality other than quirky for type of setting /era. She is average looking. Average sized. Not particularly powerful, smart or attractive.

Pretending to be a pig only can work so far when you are not actually a tiger.

Silly MC in ancient era, better off reading Unruly Phoenix XiaoYao or Father, Mother has run off again <<less

Initially I enjoyed reading this because the heroine's stubborn indifference and refusal to get more than peripherally involved in the struggles and scheming going on around her was enjoyable to read. Then, as the story continued, I got more and more irritated with her inaction, plus the constant pestering from her crazy suitors. I feel like maybe I'd have enjoyed this more if the core theme of her recovering mega-slowly from trauma from her previous life, i.e.

the neglect from her parents, combined with a massive betrayal from her sister and partner while she was terminally ill

[collapse]

wasn't so realistic and bitter. That underlying bitterness made me want more from what the heroine got, i.e. A massively possessive, black-bellied male lead who spent more of his efforts on trying to dictate her life/reaction to things and mindlessly kissing her now and then than on really trying to heal her heart. Worse still is the fact that, per spoilers in other reviews,
Spoiler

he gets her easily in the end, with the other two (three??) guys who are h**ny for the heroine just accepting it, even though they could (and would!) realistically have raised hell and done all sorts of sh*t to try to steal her away.

[collapse]
I feel like the story tries to have it's cake and eat it too, and the mixed result of doing so just ended up annoying me. It doesn't help that the story is written in an especially vague/whimsical way, and that the prologue is a random chapter pulled to the front by the translator. I understand why they made that choice---it actually works better, imo, than wherever the original author would have put it, or it would work better if the chapter itself had been a bit more fleshed out.

Final verdict: three stars, because all in all I did enjoy the initial ramp up, just got more and more annoyed/frustrated as I kept reading. If none of the stuff I've mentioned bothers you, you'll enjoy it a lot more than I did.

If you're interested in m/f "transmigration/rebirth into ancient china" stories like this that have a similar amount of realism, I recommend trying Mei Gongqing or Legend of Concubine’s Daughter Minglan, both of which have heroines that are similarly trapped by circumstance, but exhibit a lot more agency and fight to try and get the life that they want in a much more satisfying way than the heroine in this one. <<less

Top quality with similar vibes to Ballet of the Desert (https://www. novelupdates. com/series/ballad-of-the-desert/). FL is not protected by ridiculous plot armor (there's enough justification within the story) and where the ML and side supporting male leads fall head over heels for nothing. Explores really interesting ideas (within its progression and climax) and is more lighthearted than BoD.

The main similarity is that you don't get a sense of who the ML is for sure, because there are all +'ve and -'ve sides to all the male characters (some also mutually platonic... more>> which is wow). So you really get to 'choose' with the FL as she assesses her relationship to these men. However, the ML does end up the readers 'choice' as well because he does give the FL what she desires most in a relationship. His own character development addresses his -'ve and potentially dealbreaker side too.

I am sad that one other supporting character didn't really get a resolution that I wanted imo.

Spoiler

Actually both He Lian Chen and Yan You... But I'm talking about HLC because I really liked that fact that he had a legitimate reason to love her with their interaction since childhood (I'm a softy for childhood developments, but too bad Yuwen Rui is also that childhood friend too). It is implied he hadn't slept with any of his consorts or women yet, and he's preparing and offering her the legimiate wife spot, no less than being empress. His biggest downfall in my opinion, is not relating to her and holding her opinions in his sight.

[collapse]

There's little errors in gramatical structuring, but I appreciate that on some levels, because it made me feel like I was hearing the dialogue in the original language. <<less

Didn't expect this at all; it was a surprisingly compelling read. Lots of twists and character development in the potential MLs, and the MC is one of the most fleshed out ones I've read yet. Her inner thoughts, characterization, subtle cynicism, etc. Feel quite "real" and very relatable for a regular modern person transmigrating to the past.
Spoiler

The majority of the story was definitely carried by the MC and how she approached a lot of the improbably situations. Humor was also present for the majority, though it frequently flipped to being more dark/sardonic.

[collapse]

Love that the characters (especially the MLs) had some deep flaws and that the MC's common sense actually had her picking them out and not pretending everything was fine and dandy. MC also says some great modern sensibilities to the ancient people around her. I wish more heroines were like her!

One word: Amazing

I love the MC - her character, personality, and intelligence is amazing, more than the trope of the ruthless MC getting revenge on tasteless characters. The prologue might be a bit daunting, but do read beyond that! You'll think back to it throughout the novel.
