Once she woke up, Gu Xuejiao became the arrogant and willful stepsister of the book’s male lead. Her specialty resided in breaking the relationship between the male and female lead… she is the nth female character.

Gu Xuejiao thought about this character´s ending. A desolate, abhorrent annihilation… and decided it’s better to continue to practice the Wu San workbooks she just finished in her last life.

The Cheng family watched in alarm:

The girl who was rebellious, and only served to let others worry; asked with a simple expression:

“Do you think it’s better for me to apply to Tsinghua University or Beijing University?”

Cheng family: ….

Note: Wu San workbooks is the Chinese version of Barron’s and Princeton’s for the SAT

Modern transmigration story into a book. Story is slow. She works through the problems left behind by the previous soul and works really hard to achieve what was her aim in her previous life. Along the way she fight some demons (evil cannon fodders) and helps quite a few people along the way. Pressures that high school students face is discussed, su*cide is talked about and that makes it for an interesting read. Definitely recommend. On the romance front, nothing has happened as of 313 chapter read so far. She... more>> is not even in love with the ML. So yes, slow!

To address negative reviews - People seem to think that age gap = to grooming? Yes ML is 9yrs older than her. He falls in love first. A groomer in a s*xual grooming situation grooms some one for the purpose of s*xual abuse and mental manipulation. The ML is in love and wants her to fall in love. But he doesn’t manipulate her feelings. There are multiple scenarios where he helped her but never takes credit for it (a groomer would). A groomer would also initiate touch earlier so that they get ‘used’ to it. People should not throw around words they don’t understand. This is not a case of grooming!

Addressing plagiarism accusation - what I have noticed is that quite a bit of CN novel have the same premise. The said original - “After Transmigrating Into the Cultivation World, the School Topper Was Reborn.” This book is not the same story as that one. There the FL is OP - can cultivate and sort of just accepts the love of ML who is her desk mate. Similar? Yes. Same? No. There are tons of similar stories when in comes to CN novels. It is like new authors try to change what they didn’t like in another story. <<less

idk what grooming means and searched it all up in google and it gave me "Grooming is when someone builds a relationship, trust and emotional connection with a child or young person so they can manipulate, exploit and abuse them." ML surely builds trust and emotional connection with the FL but I am sure he does that not to manipulate, exploit or abuse her tho. so me reading reviews I be like "???????" all over.

anyway, since I'm already at 300ish chapters I could say that there are a lot... more>> of boring chapters specially for me since I aint getting motivated to be so serious with my studies or i'll die, and I think FL seriously need to learn about things that could not be found in her academic books. being school smart is rewarding but being life smart might help her figure things out on her own without the ml's help because ngl it is tiring to see ML feeding FL all the necessary information she didn't understand. especially how she couldn't handle her

ML is a creeper who's too old for the FL. To add insult to injury, there's a perfectly good option for ML in the class with the FL. They sit right next to each other! They have good chemistry! They're cute! They can help each other grow (she help him become more studious and him help her be less of a wet blanket) ! The actual ML though... The author shouldn't have bothered with this contrived romance. Not only would the age-appropriate option be much more enjoyable to read, no... more>> ML at all would also be much better. The ML ruined this story for me. <<less

Lmao all these people calling it grooming thinking they did something. This isn’t grooming, the mental age of the FL alone surpasses the ml’s age, he doesn’t take advantage of her in any way, and acts as a mentor to help her fix her relationships with the people around her. He literally almost cries because he knows that he shouldn’t be feeling this way until she’s older. Some of you have your heads so far up your asses you can’t read past anything before throwing in words like grooming and... more>> pedophillia, very cringe. This is cute as hell, has pretty good character development, and there are plenty of cute moments that respect the age difference. <<less

This is so good. The story showed love from the beginning. The relationship of the FL to her family gradually improved. On the side note, her interaction with the ML is the cutest thing, I just hope that the authoe should've put more romantic interaction between them.

Some antagonists had a good ourcome where they changed for the better and some had their own bitter endings for being bad.

MTL LEVEL: ☆☆☆

Its was mostly family/school oriented. It shows the different family dynamics, and how was each member of the family treat each other. Its quite interesting because the novel was able to showcase alot of type of families, and you can see how each member affects one another.

Spoiler

There was MC's family, parents divorced and both were remarried. How each set of family was to MC. At the start there was some conflict but the stepfather treated MC wholeheartedly and even teaches the mom on how to be a good mother. They all grow together which was extremely great, especially the growth of the mother. The father's side is another type of family in which the father married the mistress and the half-sister, along with the mistress plots against MC.

There was the ML's family and how they have always never treated the ML well even though they are blood related. They thought they can bind ML because they are blood related but ML showed them that he will provide for them, but he also have the choice to not love them.

There was also the loving family of the 2ndML, which was very touching. As they support him at all times, even though they often scold him for not studying properly.

There was the family of MC's friend, Liu Jiaxue (?). She tried to commit su*cide because of the pressure her mother puts on her. Her mother is a very shrewed woman who scolds everyone alot especially the Liu father and daughter. But you will be able to see that not everything is a one sided thing. She was like that for a reason, though it might not be right, she was able to change for the better, and her family was able to grow as well.

There was the family of Cheng Minjiao (?) cousin of oriML who hates MC and suffered from depression. Her mother, may not be a great mother, she always supports her daughter. She was not there when CM needs her at first, but when she saw that CM is not okay and all people thought CM was crazy and wanted her to be put into a mental hospital, she fought that CM is just depressed but not crazy, even in front of the indifference shown by the family they were closed to, she stood her ground and guarded her daughter.

There was also the Yu family, (Shulan) MC's roomate/friend's boyfriend. The parents of the guy controls him tight, they dont want Shulan for their son. Sadly this ended up in tragedy. They lock up the guy and watched him closely to separate them which make him of the verge of mental breakdown and tried jumping off the balcony. Shulan came and as she was trying to hold him off she fell to her death instead which drives the bf to complete insanity. The parents were indespair.

Its interesting how we see each types of family, how they were different, how they were similar, how they suffered together and most of them were able to come through the pain and grow together. While others pay for the wrongs they have done together.

Romance is sparse at first which constantly grew as time passed, but was only at the latter half of the novel

Thank you Bobateatranslation for translating this novel. I had read until the team made the "censored" at boba and finish reading the rest chapters at mtled website. What I like about this novel is that the author can make me relates on many things in real life, make me laughed and cried while teaching the readers to ignore other people negative views as airs and the most important is to cherish you yourself. Aiaiai I hv many regrets when I read the school parts. If only I was braver and... more>> don't care about people negativity and had cherished myself more instead trying to help those so called friends that my own study negleted at that time.

To other people that say ML is disgusting for aiming a young 16years old girl. True he is 9 years old differents but he never force the MC to accept him and had waited until MC entered University. He is neither married nor in relationship when he pursue MC. He always try his best to protect MC. Even when he is jealous, he didn't stop MC meeting her male best friend. I even knows a few successful marriage where there is a many gap ages between couple. Usually it is because one of the couple had the responsibility of raising their siblings or wanting to focus on strengthening their economy life first before marriage. There is one relative that had waited his only sister that he raised his own and married only after only his sister got married. Unfortunately he died because of covid. There are also an older couple I know where there is a big age gap that remind me very much of MC and ML where his wife chosen to teach in foreign country and the hubby supported her. He would come stay over there when there are opportunities for some time and return back.

Best of all, the author has never once say China is great while demeaning other countries. True China is a wonderful place to visit and hv many heritages but its really irky when some authors dissed other country by comparing. <<less

3, 5/5 star.

It actually so so, not best not bad, I still waaay prefer Guide To Raising Sick Villain if you want coming of age novel.

The only thing bother me is ML, I dont mind with age different but it feel like he is grooming her but not as disgusting as (I am forgot but it BL and I drop it when the Seme grope the middle school Uke). It will better if they meet when FL is collage student somehow.

I like SML better actually because he is not perfect,... more>> he is silly like typical school boy but he work hard and getting better, his parent is good too. I love FL and SML chemistry more, but sadly he is just SL and this good boy didnt deserve that kind of ending. Even FL reject him, but I still think he deserve happiness -_-

Oh, I forgot. Not really spoiler but...

The way author make tragedy from other couple just to make lead together, it feel like world spine just around them ha :/

I don't really think this novel is bad, nor good. It's just normal. Perhaps a 5 out of 10.

I'm not so far in the novel where I can see where the romance or plot is really good, or whether the ML really is a creepy f*ck like the reviews say. All I can say it's a typical novel, not good, not so bad to point where I hate it, but it's not anything fresh, new, or outstanding in the genre. Its quite concerning that the ML has a reaction towards... more>> an underage girl, but like I said, I'm not so far in the novel where I can determine whether the ML is actually a pedo or creep yet.

The MC is a typical Mary Sue, with a ✨Pure✨ Personality, a supernatural ability to save the most rich and "dominant president" person in the world by chance, and a superpower to make any person fall in love with her at first sight. Anyways, the author says she's just a normal girl with an earlier start than her classmates, but trust me. A 985 university isn't something you can get into with an "early start" or "hard work". Talent and smarts is something you can't make up with "hard work". By the author's words, she's "a normal girl with better than average grades", and I can tell you with "better than average grades", no matter how hard you work, you probably won't even be able to go into a 985 university, much less the top university in China, Tsinghua University. So this part pisses me off, especially as someone preparing for their high school exams.

It's not bad, per se, but it's not good. It's even leaning a bit on the bad side for me, so I guess I dropped it. I wouldn't recommend it, really, but you might enjoy it. After all, different people, different opinions. Sorry for the bad English and have a nice day. <<less

This novel tells the story of youth, family relations and the relentless hard work people put into chasing their dreams. It's a good slice of life novel.

The first half of the novel has more of the typical villain face-slapping that you know from Chinese webnovels. But that doesn't make the story shallow. In the second half, after the main antagonist is gone, there is a more slice of life development.

In the story you see a lot of ideological conflicts between generations within a family, parents making mistakes that hurt their... more>> children in the name of love and children wanting to break out from their parents's control. Some people learn from their mistakes, others have to bear the consequences of their actions. There is a lot of positive character development more so in side characters rather than in the main leads. And not everything is black or white.

Xuejiao, the FL, is the most humble and hard-working FL I have ever read about. She used to be average (or so she says) during her last life and admits that she has an advantage compared to others due to her rebirth/transmigration which makes her 2 years ahead of her peers. But she knows that she still needs to work hard to reach her goals and so she dedicates practically every waking hour to studying which naturally yields good results. She isn't really op (although very strong in studies). Xuejiao is a pretty one-track mind kinda person, direct and only sees what she focuses on. This is her advantage in studying but also gives her a low EQ as she can't spare any extra brain cells on relations, especially when she concentrates on studying.

Lin Zhihua in turn is your typical rich and powerful CEO who doesn't let any woman near him except for our fl. He is smart with high IQ and EQ. Add to that him being 9 years (7 if you consider fl's last life) her senior, made him able to mentor and teach Xuejiao, guiding her when she has problems. Despite being so powerful, he can also be vulnerable but only towards Xuejiao as she is basically his world or life.

My personal MVP though is neither of the main leads, but rather our dear Papa Cheng, aka. Cheng Shuo, Xuejiao's step-father and the father of the original ML. Unlike your typical step-parent that dislikes or at best disregards the step-child, Cheng Shuo cares for Xuejiao with a genuine heart, later even regarding her as his own. He teaches and guides Xuejiao's mother in being a better parent when the latter makes a mistake. This is a rare thing to see in a novel or at least it is the first time I saw it. Besides being a good father he is also a good husband, loving his wife, taking care of her and even eating her bad cooking without a complaint. Basically, what I want to say is... Take the ML or the og. ML for all I care. I'm gonna keep Papa Cheng. <<less

MTL-ed my way through.

⚠️ WARNING: theres a portrayal and mention of self harm in some chapters (71-73, second half of 92- first half of 94|| according to raw's chapter count, translator's is different tho)

Also, saw some reviews saying the ML was "grooming" the MC thinking they did something. But clearly can't even comprehend the difference of grooming and mentoring.

... more>> Grooming is gaining trust and establishing emotion connection with a child/minor with the objective of s*xual abuse.

Mentoring is a relationship with the goal of professional/personal development. Mentor is an experienced person who shares knowledge, experience, and advice to an inexperienced person/mentee.

ML literally was the mentor to MC. Did MC grow from those advices? Hell yeah. Did he give those advices for selfish intentions? Fck no. 🤷🏻‍♀️
———————
Back to reviewing:

At first, I thought this was gonna be another novel where sc*ms stay as sc*ms throughout the whole novel. But it isn't, and that's what made this novel beautiful. I really love that the sc*mmy characters I hated changed by guidance and sincerity from people who cares, and also their own determination. Except the ML's family (they're beyond help and d*mb to their core). Just goes to show that not everyone can suck up their pride to change.

I also love that they didn't portray the geniuses and big achievers as lazybones who are outworldly smart without any actual effort. As said by Professor Tan, talent is just a fraction, hard work is what actually matters.

Everyone was working hard and persistent for their goals. Not only in academics but also in relationships. As demonstrated by the ML.

Spoiler

And, well... the only one who didn't get anything for their persistence was Yi Tianyu... And I honestly hate the author a little bit for making such a precious sunshine so miserable T-T (must be why MC calls him "depression" as MTL-ed)

This is my first time writing a review... and I've Machine Translated the entire book. But for those who pass by and are hesitating to read this, I'm telling you that this is worth it. There were bumps and humps the whole way but it leaves a lasting impression and tells you important lessons in life which compels you to strive harder for your chosen path. And those dreams that you once thought were foolish and impossible to reach, may not necessarily be unattainable. For once you do your best... more>> and face it with due diligence and with utmost sincerity you'll be able to see the fruit of your hard work. The process is bitter-sweet but the outcome is the sweetest of all. This is all executed well by the author and I admire how he/she can make such a book that is thought-provoking and awe-inspiring. This is a book that I'll remember the most for it helped me notice my immaturity, insecurities, and anxiety towards life, love, family, friends, and my dreams.

Lastly, I love how the author taught us, the readers, that love is not necessarily instant and that life is not full of shortcuts. Moreover learning to understand and cherish those that are important to you and never be blinded for what is the truth or even the reality for only by facing it can you move forward.

And I'll be leaving this review with a quote from the book that is memorable and applicable at all times.
Spoiler

"no matter what your achievements are today, no matter how many outstanding people will be around you, you should not be jealous of others." and that no matter how ordinary you may be it depends on you on how ordinary you can be...

What a masterpiece!!! Even when writing this review, I still feel like crying. I've read a lot of stories with geniuses, some are indeed worth it to call a god. And I actually thought this one will be the same, but I was wrong.

This story is not as lighthearted as I thought it'll be. But it's realistic that it can evoke emotions to the readers. I was indeed wrong to think that this will be a typical OP FL X Domineering CEO troupe. The FL is not OP but she's... more>> smart and most of all, she's very hard working. The ML is indeed a CEO but he's a patient guy who deep down is full of fear and insecurities. Neither of them were a Mary Sue (if it's applicable to men) but rather, they were flawed. But it just made their character more appealing to the readers.

Thus is not your typical reincarnation story with a reborn FL and her golden finger. No, there's nothing like that. The FL was reborn but she's realistic. She's a student, so she acted like one. Even if she's mature and still maturing along the way, she doesn't give the readers the feelings that she's just a book character. It's because the readers can relate to her experiences and feelings. She's full of emotions. She experienced the bitter feelings of those children in broken families. She experienced being academically pressured by her peers. She experienced growing up that it's subtly visible every chapter that she's maturing, and still maturing.

This is also not a story of love at first. In fact, the author is very good at false foreshadowing. I almost lit a candle for the ML because I thought he's going to be the 2nd ML. Speaking of the 2nd ML. If only he was matured enough, it is no doubt that he won't be just the 2nd ML. That's also a reason why this story is so good. The FL, unlike the other OP FL, experienced youth, like having a crush in high school and experiencing her first heartbreak. At that time, I felt the ML's pain, uncertainty, and fear. Especially when he said that the FL has grown up but sadly, he wasn't the first man who entered her eyes. That raining scene was really heartbreaking.

In addition, there's a lot of societal issues mentioned in this story. Academic pressure, su*cide, depression, etc. As well as the thoughts of the older generation about the depression issues of the younger generation. Just like how Liu Jiaxue's mom ranted that how can her daughter be depressed when she doesn't need to worry about her food and clothes, etc. But it wasn't like that. We all have different pain tolerance level, especially when belonging to the different age group. A little cut may be just a sting to an adult but it's very painful for younger one. So this story let us know that we view the differently. Our perspective differs from one another and we can only respect each others' emotions and circumstances.

The supporting characters brought a lot of "flavors" to the story. They can be categorized as canon fodders, tbh. However, they gave a very realistic feeling that even if they just appeared for a few chapters, the lessons they gave were noteworthy.

Now, about the 2nd ML. I really feel sad for him but the ML is indeed more suitable for the FL. He's a good guy but it's a pity that a moment of emotional outburst made him lose his chance in that night.

Now, I honestly feel a little complicated about Lu Sitong, the FL's mother. She's the typical "I am older than you so you must listen. I am your mother and you are my child so I'm the one who's right." mentality. I really don't like her at first but she reflected and changed so I can't say much about her anymore. What I just want to say is that, again, children may be young, but they still have their own views and emotions. Any parent isn't qualified to dictate how their child should feel, parents are advisers and guides, but that's it. Their children are indeed independent.

Anyway, I said too much because it's indeed a very good story which brought a lot of emotions to me. It's touching, refreshing, and commendable. It's a 10/10! A must read! <<less

I'm at chapter 120 and if you're asking why I'm still even here, trust me I'm asking myself the same question.
Lets start with how the author never actually states how old the ML (until later im guessing but till chap 120, they haven't) and yet gave us these weird and creepy interactions with FL in the name of "romance" like hello????where is the police?? A 16 yr old being so dependent on a 25+ yr old man is very weird especially when he has ulterior feelings towards her. He... more>> encourages and actively tries to alienate her from her family and friends saying it's for her sake??? like hello dude just cuz u never learnt to process ur emotions towards ur family/friends or acquaintances does not mean others also dont have to. Worst of all is how plot dependant is it on ML needing to have a child albeit the ML says he doesn't need a kid to stabilise his position as an heir he never denies it either. He says he'll have a kid only with someone he loves.... okay good but he says that at a time when hes said to have romantic feelings for a 16 year old?!!!!!

THIS ENTIRE STORY SCREAMS RED FLAGS!!!! <<less

I think it's an OK novel but I'm fairly certain most people came here for the romance. And there's no romance so far, just a few texts back and forth between them, it's basically just a school life with some cliché Chinese repetitive "She can't do it""How dare she""I have money, get on your knees peasant" drama. (Which I admit I enjoy).

The MC is also kind of annoying because she rarely does anything by herself, she always asks for help or bases it off the things she already knows. She... more>> doesn't really think for herself.

Also the MC's family relationship is frustrating. After how they treat her she still puts up with them and doesn't take any action against them. If the author ends up making them reconcile, I'll shove my brain up my butt. <<less

I edit this one cause now I know why from reading some comments here why I stopped reading. ML and MC has no charm aside from what have been set by the author. Forget about ML being a pedo here. Imagine that MC is not a teenager but lets give her an age that is a bit appropriate. Lets imagine that she is an already collage student maybe majoring in math or something. But oh no there's a problem in the book sheets that I can't solve. I know! Why... more>> don't I ask the super intelligent person (ML) to help me? Not like a teacher or some other smart student that I can ask right? I don't know them well enough! ML here is treated as someone very handy tool. Any problem MC needs that ML can solve rather easily. Author had it easy with ML having a mental problem so that other than having husband material, they don't need to be given a more realistic characteristics like his ideals or something as simple as likes or dislikes. ML has nothing that I feel invoke in me that want to support him other than he has mental disabilities and his parents being that naggy parents. MC had it worse. You know she has regrets. She wants to do better in her new life. But do tell me that is it possible that they have no desire to have friends?? Like okay she got her study down to a T but man she has no one to share her passion to go to a uni to the same s*x. So she studies on her own with the exception of that second male lead. And that's her only "friend". And we got nothing to break from her usual studying persona she got going on so its study study study. At least a tea break even eating desserts could help but nope. Safe to say her and ML has not much going on with how awkward their relationship or even a chemistry to speak of. Other than they are smart of course but that's also not sustainable. I read smart couples before but they got better chemistry than these two.

I wont want others to stop want to read this cause honestly this is up to taste. You can enjoy dumpster fire novels cause its just how people are. All my point is this novel is boring perhaps maybe the author didn't noticed that or even the corporate wants it like this I dunno. But its good to know what makes a story works or not that's why I edit this so I know. In any case enjoy your reading. <<less

The grooming is creepy, but the bigger problem (as far as enjoyable reading is concerned) is that the characters are shallow and devoid of nuance, and the writing is drier than the Western Australian desert.

Lot of reviewers have already commented on the positives of this novel is so I won't repeat them. I enjoyed it as it a good change from the other second life/rebirth/transmigration novels out there - given a second life, use it to fulfill your own dreams (and not focus on revenge). The MC doesn't go out of her way to exact revenge on people and the various 'villains' all suffer karma in the end.

The interaction between the ML and MC is refreshing as it's focused on building a trust relationship... more>> and then growing into love (nice change from novels where one side falls into lust after the other) and the fact that the MC is completely oblivious to it and slowly realises her feelings makes this a good 'coming-of-age' read.

The life lessons dotted throughout are also good for the reader to reflect on, especially those from Asian families who may feel the pressure of having to constantly get good grades and 'succeed' at the expense of their dreams but then also sometimes dreams may. High school is not the end and there is more to life than exams.... <<less

As a secondary character, he really grew on me, especially since we see his development from someone with no goals or ambitions to someone who wants to make himself a better person (and did make himself a better person) for the FL. It's so heartbreaking to watch their relationship fall apart because he thinks the FL doesn't care about him as she wants him to go a better university in Shanghai as opposed to a university in Beijing (Shanghai and Beijing are really far apart for those who don't know). It's sad to see him get frustrated with the FL, cause he wants to be in the same city as her, and take her advice as her not caring if he's close or far. And it's sad to see the FL (as someone who placed a lot of emphasis on making her own choices i.e going to Tsinghua even tho Peking was the better choice academically) not understand his choice and where he's coming from. It hurt when she said that if he had said "I like you" she would've told him that she'll think about it. She herself was aware that she had feelings (maybe not strongly but there nonetheless) towards Tianyu. And when the author brought up the movie You're the Apple of My Eye, I lost it. Especially when he started going on about how people miss opportunities in love over little mistakes and how the incident became the thing Tianyu regretted most.

I knew that the FL would only end up with the ML but it still hurt when it happened since I'd gotten so attached to the character. But that's the purpose of a great novel, to make me feel! <<less

This is more than just a romance. The story describes family relationships and how they can make or break you. Author describes several different families and how communication can save a family whereas misunderstandings and trying to force your will on someone leads to disastrous results.

The MC and ML are adorable. They both work hard toward their goals.

Agree the stepfather is an amazing father while biological father is tr*sh. The birth mother is an idiot and quite selfish. Luckily the stepfather is there to make the idiot mother behave better.

Funny enough, the character I just didn't like is Yi Tianyu. He pretty much forces his way into being MC's deskmate for most of their school years. He doesn't show care and consideration for MC, just dragging her along on his whims. I find it cringey that he keeps trying to force his feelings on MC and because her EQ is low, she doesn't notice and kick him to the curb. Also, he got mad at her for rejecting him when he KNOWS she only considers him as a friend. In the end, when he goes to see her after several years of college, he tries to gain sympathy first with a sob story then STILL hugs her and asks for a chance after she has told him she has a BF and that she's very happy. Yi Tianyu on the surface seems like a nice guy but he's selfish and spoiled.
