I'm a lurker since 2015 and I had to make an account to post my review.

GARBAGE. MC's resolve is as thin as a cardboard. He is an adult (pre-isekai) but has the same determination of a 10 yr old. The start is great, he resolved to leave his family's territory to avoid succession conflict. And yet there he is - in the country's capital being pushed around by old men. He knows he's being used but he has no problem with it since he got a beautiful fiance or some... more>> other sh*t reward (money/house). Ffs he can mine and purify gold from their territory. He can even teleport the people that he cared for to an island in the south that he discovered at the start of the story then develop that island as his own if he wants.

Other people will say "It iS s*upid to AnGER tHe KinG (or some higher ups) tHaT's WhY he's leTTing hIM Do wHat THey'Re dOIng". I call BS, if it's done once, okay; twice, still acceptable; thrice, I'll forgive him since he doesn't know politics of nobility. But 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 times? He should've studied politics already at that point to manuever w/out being used. At one point MC even explained what's happening but still go with it, like WTH??

And what's irritating is that there are atleast 2 people that can teach MC politic (his 5th brother & his patron) but he only talks to them after the fact and not during.

There's LN but since the the TL continued where the WN stopped, the story will likely be the same.

If you have time and no other things to do, but be warned that it's garbage. I would give zero if its allowed, heck I'd even pay good bucks to rate this as a negative. <<less

1.5 stars maybe. It has same problem as many other Japanese novels, there's no emotion and characters are just way too passive. It's MC doesn't have any agency. As always, it starts promising, but afterwards it's just very dull. And this passiveness pervades pretty much everything in then novel, including romance, aka. There's none. This novel honestly deserves slice of life tag.

Overall you feel like you are reading about some robots just doing what they are told.

This light novel is one giant info-dump. There's barely any dialogue between characters. It's pretty much always just one line, then a summary of the conversation in the next paragraph. Then it goes back to more info-dumps and MC's inner monologue for a couple of chapters before the next conversation takes place.

I love the series, but facing the adjustment to the light novel version with the prefered translator.

the new group that’s taken over the web novel however feels like they’ve just thrown the original through a machine translator and dumped it calling it a day...

This novel is bad, gives you to much information that is very repetitive even for one side character, too much non sense politics, unrealistic harem, using isekai as a genre when author not even make use of it.

Here's why...

  1. Too much information- why? author gave as an explanation to this one character, ok I know its good to have some background, but to repeat it again in the next chapter makes reading boring and takes up to much useless time to know what is going on, I read lots of novel even a very long chapter 1000+ novel from china, but they didn't take information too long for readers to care for the characters, even other korean novels has good information build for their character but its not that long and boring, but you will discover this information as you read the novel's story. BUT here no the author slaps too much information to your face and you dont even know these boring characters and author will repeat it again the next chapter.
  2. Non sense politics, but hey this novel had some interesting story as a 8th son of a poor novel I know isekai novel has some twist and turns. but to make politics in this story unbearable to read is bad. Politics in the family, in the incident of his master magician, even politics in his village is so boring and sometimes nonsensical because the MC doesnt even care.
  3. Unrealistic Harem, this is a sickness of Japan's novel which you read the first time is good but until you read it a hundread times with the same setup you will see its just wrong I mean it makes your side character the same as others. just because the MC is good at something he will get a harem ok. just because MC save this girl he will a harem, MC do this he will some. I mean its bad writing that MC could get a harem any where else like picking a gemstone in a group of rocks easily..... which for me im tired of reading this unrealistic approach.
  4. Isekai genre, when you make a story isekai you should make it so that you use that as theme for your story, why the MC came to this world why he became as we known the MC?, this is another sickness of Japan Isekai genre that doesnt make sense. you could some plot points that he was summoned like the "Tensei Shitara slime" side characters, or because it is fate to help the dragon god defeat the human god in "Mushoku Tensei", even the "Shield Hero" summon to save the kingdom has good plots just to make isekai relevant. but here MC ressurected because we need all those boring information that the author wants as to read........

I have read this novel a really long time ago and seeing the reviews it keeps getting worse, I´m surprised to be honest.

This novel is the epitome of how not to write your MC and seems to be that the author nailed it in doing his best in something bad and uninspiring.

-This review is just for advice, don´t read this and don't waste your time, the first chapters may be interesting but I can promise you it will get worse, and if you are new and believe that every bad... more>> review is just someone that doesn't appreciate this material, ok I understand and proceed in your own volition. <<less

My review.. (initial)

My thoughts.... I give up.

Im a person who binge a novel. Any genre I will read it.

... more>> But unfortunately in this novel I find it hard to comprehend. Im not saying that it was Translated bad but

... the way every chapters were connected,

... the conversation of people...

... the politicssssss, complicated relationship of novels being dragged again and again.

... the repeated talk about him.

... the lack of persuation in himself

... he just accept and accept. No rejection on his part

... It makes me sad.

I guess the first translator did and the second translator made difference... It Changed!

When I read a novel, there's a Lingering feelings or emotions left during or after you read a novel.

But here, huhuhu.... Its saddening. I just want to finish it. Its bearable.

What's the positive...

Long chapters

Well explained the complicated relationship of a novels in the story. The dirty politics. There's. Lot to discover.

More chapters that you can read. <<less

It gets a little slow here and there, there arar almost no hardships for the MC. It seems a little like death march in the fact that it has some shounen bits of intense action, some slice of life, and some harem/ecchi stuff. Though recently I feel that the story became a little dark, it is still overall good.

Honestly, I'm a bit annoyed at the language system used in the world. They use the standard Japanese language with Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji. A system that was developed after encountering different languages and adapted to. Yet, none of their names sound like what should have been their language system. The characters still have western sounding names instead and it's probably very stilted in their language. It's like society trying to create names that sounds gibberish to them and has no meaning attached to their names, yet of course somehow... more>> suppose to still work in our reader's eyes. That's not what a logical society would do, or how they would develop a language. Honestly, it's like a prior Isekai protagonist decided his wish was to change the world's language on a whim to break the language barrier, but without anyone noticing. <<less

This is your usual fantasy harem story. Meaning it is prone to good and bad reviews. But since it's one of those 'usual' stories, it means that you can enjoy this one too. The story has a slight touch of being heartwarming. It's fun to read how the story progressed, though I admit that the main plot of each arc is not so interesting that will excite you, it still keeps it's story atmosphere which is calm to read.

The Manga is better.

The overall story is good, but everything in-between is not. Story Pacing is terrible: Not much time is spent on the good stuff, and there is lots of repeat about the structure of nobility. 4-instance: ... more>>
Spoiler

8-10 chapters repeating the same thing about noble family structure between his house, his family, the mistress's house and family...... but only 2 chapters about meeting a walking corpse, his master and killing him emotionally with only 2 sentences.

[collapse]

Also, the translation/editing also induces headaches. I can tell that this team actually has some skills, because all the good story bits are well translated, but that amounts to 10% of the story, and all the other bits, it seems even the translation team finds it boring and puts in less effort.

Lastly, you can tell that the story wasn't fully planned out. There are quite a few instances where future chapters contradict previous ones. Little things like using a spell to find all kinds of rare minerals and plants, then in the future chapter using one of his master's "enhanced" spells to be able to find a copper mine only.

But, I could live with all that and enjoy the story, if it wasn't for lack of intelligence. How can I put this without dropping spoilers... Typical MC hide OP skills until (author runs out of things to write about) blatantly showing off to the world for no particular reason. (Author to lazy to imagine a scenario that forces MC to show all his cards one by one.) <<less

It's dissapointing it's more on politics which is very complicated to understand and the MC is so damn naive gets easily trick by the people around him. And furthermore there is no distinct antagonist, it would sometimes this bad guy then next that bad guy then next the former bad guy again etc. So basically the story is VERY BORING !!!!

It's hard to say whether it's the author's fault or the translator's (probably both, to some extent) but the story is nigh incomprehensible a good portion of the time, rambling off about this noble's house or that noble's house to the point that I can't tell who is expressing the thoughts and for what reason. The story looks like it has some merit, but it's so hard to read I can't get into it.

I /finally/ caught up to the raws, and I gotta say this is quite good. Feels a bit like Mushoku Tensei, but Wendelin doesn't focus on adventuring and all that stuff but he gets more involved in the relationships between nobles.

4.4- ish, the beginning is really boring.

Interesting story and setting but horrible writing. Each chapter is short and contains flashbacks. There are so many random info dumps that doesn't pull the story forward or getting used in the near future. It is possible to make them shorter or more interactive, currently they are just in an awful place.

This is a decent Isaki novel and has many good points. Its main good point is its originality in bringing the common Isaki tropes and twisting them into an interesting story. This web novel has many issues common to new writers. The main one is that the author had a good idea and ran with it but dosent really know where he is going.
Plot

Spoiler

or the lack thereof is pretty prevalent throughout the novel. Though the later untranslated chapters dealing with the demons is an attempt a social critism of modern japanese society. Mainly focusing on the unsatisfing nature of everyday life as well as poking fun of politics in general. Which might ring true to readers of an isaki web novel.

The harem
Spoiler

started out ok and had some value but now is just got out of hand and he's now marring and f*cking pretty much every girl that has magic or is a strategic place as a ruler. And the strike zone is getting larger 5 year olds to 30 somethings. Though the loli demon king ends up falling for him is either cliche or pretty good depending on where the author takes it.

Quite an enjoyable series about a normal Japanese guy who one day woke up in a child's body. He, then, proceeded to learn magic and became a genius magician and climbed up the ranks of nobility.

Well, I made it sound all dramatic and stuff but it's basically that.

He's a great and powerful mage but not all that good at combat techniques

Spoiler

though he does improve later on because of his 3rd teacher (FMA's Armstrong rip-off). He has a good head on his shoulders but he sometimes can't help being pushed around by the more experienced and sly nobles - and for the record, it's mostly because the ones pushing him are very powerful people (AKA the country's King, the head magician). He is just a normal person (technically a noble but his family's territory was in the outskirts they didn't even practice proper etiquette) so don't blame his character for not being smart enough to battle the others with political wits. He also gets a harem and treats them well.

[collapse]

It's not an amazing series but it's still a pretty good adventure story with a bit of management in the later part of the plot. You should check it out if you want to read something that slowly shows the growth and progress of the main protagonist as a child (technically) into an adult, while romancing some girls at the side and getting acknowledged because of his achievements (with how I described this, it kinda started sounding like Mushoku Tensei - but this is more light hearted compared to that series).
