3 Stars. This novel bears striking resemblence towards Oregairu. The MC is unexpectedly popular.

At the same time, the MC is almost the opposite of Oregairu MC. They are both loners in their own ways, doesnt like to associate with the pack and prefers calm instead of the storm. Both have lovely imouto, and in a way both are described to be somewhat a siscon. Both have popular friends, the weirdo friend, and the cold beauty friend. Both are ordinary academically, and outward appearance. Both are avid readers. Both are somewhat... more>> respected within their own clique, and ignored by the rest. Except the part of Oregairu MC that loves to see things tru his own eyes and not the tinted glass, whereas OIET MC prefers to see whatever is in front of him as is and nothing more.

Oregairu MC is also smart, he understands the girls like him, but always denies them any chance at all, since he chose to be alone. Whereas this novel MC (at least up to the point I have read) is really dense and oblivious towards the girls advances.

If you are looking for a similar novel, look no further than Oregairu (Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatte Iru) or My Youth Romantic Comedy Is Wrong as I Expected aka SNAFU.

It has been licensed so most of the hardwork done towards proper translations are botched by the english publishing of the light novel. I bought them so I can say for certain, the translator do keep a good flow with the untranslatable jokes and references, but I will forever despise them for not using the proper names for the characters (they always miswrote the names, cmon Hikigaya Hachiman is not Hachiman Hikigaya).

I just can't anymore.

Reading more about this pretend unhinged sociologist and his dick-riding crew of insufferable idiotic morons would actually shave off more years of my lifespan.

At this point, I kind of just surrendered to the idea of this WN was a fantasy about getting rewarded by being "average". I guess so, I don't know. The plot was all over the places, downright confusing at best and nonexistent at worst. The pacing was painfully, nerves-inducing, ass-clenching slow. The characters, I had better not talk about them because they were uh... more>> just uh.

For those who's hoping it will get good at 200+ chapters,

My rating for this is 4*

I've read some mix reviews about this novel

Some say it's boring and others says it gets better later on and I agree with both sides

The story only starts to pick up from chapter 100 and onwards

Although you have to endure a hundred chapters of MC and his friends enjoying a normal highschool life with nothing much happening

It's only when reading past chapter 100 where MC really starts to shine

Story of a ordinary high school student and his extraordinary friend's. It's a good story, translation quality is also good. If you are bored of reading isekai tensei novels so for a mood change it's quite a good novel. Although it'd be great if it had good comedy but you'll like it if you read it.

Quite good, but the chapters are short and slowly paced if you're looking for something that progresses quickly.

I feel like the story has yet to show me what special traits MC has that attract people to him. You do eventually learn why these attractive people are around him though.

I'm not thrilled with the direction the story is going around ch56. Looks like developments are going to get frustrating? I hope not.

Look, I tried toughing it out since all the positive reviews say Minato doesn't start getting better until around chapter 150, but this guy is just way to much of an indecisive jerk for me to like him. It's starting to feel like Rent a GF where the worst possible outcome would be any of the girls "winning", which means having to be with this POS main character. I'll try to get a bit further, but I'm really not expecting this travesty to get better, seeing as how it already... more>> had well over 200 chapters to do so. <<less

I usually like falsely ordinary self deprecating MCs having qualities that make them attractive to others. But here, I honestly don't get it, the girls liking him make no real sense since he's not doing anything interesting overall.
So it's kinda boring since the admiration seems to exist for no reason, and there is no interesting character development for any character enticing us to continue reading and be attached to them.

So yeah, good idea killed by boredom.
