Awesome Female Lead who is unapologetically confident in herself and has a firm backbone. She stands up for herself and others and the advice she gives to her clients is really touching. Rather than being repulsed by her attitude and vanity, Chestnut makes the reader just want to hug and adore Jian Yan because of how charming she is.

Some of her fabulous excerpts:

Spoiler
    • "Don't you feel that I am magnificent?"
    • "Studying and wearing beautiful clothing aren't a clash of opposing forces. An abundance of knowledge can give you confidence in yourself and strength. Pretty clothes are exactly the same."
    • "Jian Yan stood in front of her floor-length mirror and sized herself up for a moment. She gave herself a 99. The leftover point was set aside to give her room for improvement. She shouldn't become too prideful." <-- ALL TIME FAVOURITE LINE <3
      [collapse]
Although Jian Yan is seemingly perfect in that she is beautiful, talented, and successful, her attitudes really separate her from other females MCs. I can confidently say that you have not seen a character like JY before :)

In comparison, the Male Lead is a pretty standard character who is perfect in everything. He is handsome, wealthy, and is godly at singing. In Marriage Concerto, the ML was good at music, but had a bad temper. In Just Blame Me For Being Blind, the ML was good at business, but was a horndog. This ML, on the other hand, is your all-round perfect guy who has a good temperament and is kind to everyone. Though he has some level of complexity because of his sad childhood, I don't consider him unique as a character. It is also less convincing/interesting how he fell for the FL compared to Marriage Concerto, where we saw a process of falling in love.

(I have to say that if the author spent a little more time on this character then this novel would have been 5/5 for me... heck, 6/5)

Finding this novel was a "FINALLY!" moment for the me who loves novels/mangas/dramas based on fashion. Chestnut clearly did her research - the fashion isn't added in as an arbitrary background point and she tactfully includes some life lessons around appearance and self-confidence. *tears* What is also lovable is the fact that both our characters are successful and doesn't follow the cliche of a poor girl falling in love with prince charming.

Really recommend this novel to others who enjoy reading modern romances <3 <3

This book like Chestnut's other novels, Just Blame Me For Being Blind in the Beginning, is cute and good read. There is one clear male lead and female lead, no potentially ambiguous relationships or misunderstandings that take forever to resolve (although there are times when the couple fights). It is simple, cute and definitely a good read! I find that the characters in Chestnut's novels are very well rounded and that even side-characters have a good characterization. I found myself laughing, aw-ing and rooting for the both the main and side characters!

Short Summary:
Spoiler

The story follows Jian Yan, a manhua artist who is obsessed with money and has misandry due to a bad experience younger (her father has debts). Though she has released a huge seller and can easily bank on that alone, being a workaholic during her break, she decides to work as a sale representative at a clothes department store. This is where the male lead comes in, as he is the owner of the store/this clothes company.

Initially, both side hide their identity. MC - a manhua artist, ML - a super popular singer named Nan Si. However both side eventually eventually discover each other's identity (while they are in the process of falling in love).

We have the main lead's identity which set the plot for the most of second half, as his father left his mother to marry a rich girl, who gives birth to the ML's step brother.

[collapse]

The most surprising twist was the change in/ thinking of the step-brother, because
Spoiler

we find out that he actually likes his brother, as he always wanted a brother. However, his mother, jealous of him and the fact that her husband seems to favor the other son, instills in him that the ML is a mistress' son. That and the ML's indifferent personality seems to push the brother to behave badly. Once you read the side story at the end, all his actions and rudeness just seem like a ploy to get attention from his brother (´・ω・`) ~

Now that the series has ended (excluding the side stories), I think I'll finish my review now.

The one in the spoiler section are my thoughts at the 39th chapter, April 29, 2017. My thoughts toward the show unfortunately changed especially after I resumed reading it again after a while (started at chapter 42). Do take note that before I started reading it again, I also first resumed reading Marriage Concerto and I consider that a better series since it didn't try to add more flavor and so the risk of... more>> making the fluff stale or bad is less in possibility. Unlike this.

Spoiler

This is just my excused scoring and it'll be edited until it finished. I just put it now since I might forget what I think for the already translated chapters.

Story Section: 5/10

Premise and Setting: 2/3

The world is just the typical real world but it has an interesting premise. It's like a downgraded version of Kare Kano written in a more mature setting (from a high school setting to the work setting). I said downgraded because although like in Kare Kano wherein the main characters have problems related to their minds/mental aspect, the focus of the novel is the feel-good romance.

Pacing: 2/2

The pacing is fine just the way it is. Not too slow nor fast. Just alright. The events are skillfully put to place to where they are fitted to be.

Complexity: 0/3

There really aren't any complex things you can see in this novel. The potential themes shown in the premise weren't really explored. It was like it was put in there to spice up the novel, which is most likely the case since it is a feel-good romance novel, after all.

Plausibility: 1/2

Perhaps my rating has something to do with how illogical love really can be. You can't really rationalize how it works but for this novel, I think it was alright for the most part.

Character Section: 4/8

Presence: 2/2

The main characters for sure have presence with how they are being described and their given screen time. Same with the side characters, albeit only two are frequently given screen time. It still makes the reader thoroughly remember characters aside from the MCs.

Personality: 1/2

For the most part, all of the side characters are given some sort of personality, albeit not that much. The main characters can also be called realistic although I sometimes think that they are too perfect in their actions, most especially the male MC. As for the depicted antagonists, they are currently shown as horrible 1D, only there to antagonise the male leads, and yes, even the male lead's brother.

Backdrop: 1/2

Aside from the MCs, two other characters were given backdrops but I think they are superficial. Superficial in the sense that they were just given to somewhat justify the actions they are doing now or what they were doing then but it didn't really truly gave a real answer, so superficial. The female MC's, on the other hand, is quite good. The current actions she is doing at the present are influenced by her past and I really appreciate that. The male MC's backdrop, although alright, doesn't really have influences in his current actions and personality today, at least to what we are shown and aside from his reactions when his past is mentioned.

Development: 0/2

Only the female character is given a development but (1) it was only regarding her mental illness and (2) it is too subtle that you can just think it doesn't exist.

Spoiler

It was already hinted that she fell in love at first sight with the voice of the male lead so her biased mental illness cure is not really a real development. Furthermore, it was also said that if she somehow fall in love with a person, her mental illness will magically disappear.

[collapse]

Catharsis: n/a

The series is not yet finished.

Writing Style: 7/10

I'm not really good at rating this part since aside from reading web novels, I rarely read any type of literature. Even so, the writing style is certainly above average and how the comedic scenes are portrayed is definitely something noteworthy. But since most novels in this genre seem to have this kind of style already, giving it a 7/10 just for this is not really alright. I guess the mixture of descriptive sentences and normal sentences being well-done will give me the excuse to give it a 7/10. Giving it higher than that is just overkill though since I can't find anything else that is noteworthy to mention.

Enjoyment: 7/10

I currently enjoy it.

Total: 5+4+7+7=23/38= 6.05

(catharsis is expected to be 1/2 so...) 5+5+7+7= 24/40= 6/10

[collapse]

Story Section: 4/10

The setting is but just the real world so you can't really see any real creativity in here but considering the fact that it is a created universe, I guess a little bit of effort was still given. Other than that, I guess the fact that the author has given quite the effort regarding fashion is noteworthy. Whether what she described was superficial or not, though, I have no idea but it still served as a good flavor for the story. Speaking of flavors, the initial premise of the story was quite interesting since the MCs have problems related to their minds/mental aspect but as the show goes on, we are only given superficial solutions to both of them. But then again, these but are just elements used to spice things up but it didn't feel quite smooth especially since I was reading it for the fluff.

Anyway, with that finished, if we look at it at a fluffy romance perspective, it's just alright. An average one, I guess. Pacing was quite nice, and the romance was quite plausible, although quite convenient since it was connected to the main girl character's problem.

Character Section: 4/10

All characters were given enough screen time for people to remember them, even for the side characters, but aside from the main characters, the so-called villains of the story, were not given enough screen time to make the readers feel that their actions and decisions genuine, especially in the last parts of the novel. Yes, it was implied, but there was not enough background given to the reader why they did them aside from cliche stories usual from other novels and the author telling the reader. And there was no catharsis, contrary to my expectations. I initially thought there'll be, albeit superficial, since there was a "drama" flavor mixed in the premise but no, there wasn't. The problem was resolved uneventfully one might as well say the drama was not there. Even the after-taste after reading a fluffy novel wasn't there since the "drama" was there to spoil things up. It wasn't a good mix.

(just read the character section for more info in the spoiler tab)

Writing Style: 7/10

Just read the writing section in the spoiler tab.

Enjoyment: 6/10

It gradually decreased towards the end of the series. Again, reading Marriage Concerto might have affected it.

Total: 5/10 or 2 stars

I LOVE THIS SO MUCH.

This is an ultra sweet sugary love story between a manhua artist who is interested in clothing design and -surprise!- a CEO of a large clothing center/conglomerate. In order to find inspiration for a new manhua storyline, the MC goes undercover as a sales assistant at the ML's clothing store. The ML even personally patrols the store area, what a coincidence! The MC and ML are both super adorable in their own ways and makes me sad about my own love life, but anyways, give this... more>> a read! There are little to none serious moments, mostly fluff, so I was high-spirited throughout the story. Highly recommend! \^___^/ <<less

I love this whole entire [Truly Precious] universe. I'm really looking forward to the upcoming chapters. I believe in my intuition and my intuition tells me that this is going to be a good book. I read this authors past books and I can tell you that I love them. I know that this author won't let me down. The author gave us a hint in chapter four about the characters. I don't think it was much, but I look forward to reading their back story.

The MC is a blast, and I mean that in the good way. She's amazing! Sometimes we just need a narcissistic MC to brighten our mood with her golden comedy.

MC is a manhua artist who loves fashion and encounters the ML coincidentally when she was displaying her wits during her normal job's hours.

She can't touch men becauseoof her misandry but ML is the exception (obv).

... more>> Let's just say.

She got ear r*ped thus she feel in love.

- The end. - Understandable. I would also die for a hot voice whispering sweet nothings to my ears ㅋㅋㅋ. <<less

Allow me to quickly cry tears of happiness. In the stories I've read most recently, I've been incessantly complaining about the FLs being naive and innocent to the point of embarrassment or idiocy. Well, please give a round of applause! The FL here is frickin amazing! JY is smart, gorgeous, successful, hilarious, hardworking, confident, etc etc! What else do you really need? Plus she's taller and I presume skinny, not like those curvy petites that the previous stories keep mentioning. Not that I have prejudice against those, but I personally... more>> can't imagine and have never seen curvy and petite Chinese girls. Maybe I need to expand my worldview.

But here, we have the FL and the ML with an *equal* balanced relationship. Thank all the gods. Plus, most of the time it seems like the FL calls the shots. Also, a working woman with a successful career? Please! Now that's something I can support. I also want to say how happy I am that an author finally wrote about the couple having s*x, plus a whole bunch of fluffy epilogue-esque chapters. The side stories about their children were especially adorable. Sigh. Really frickin love this story, and I'll most likely be rereading it in the future. Now I'm really curious about the shared universe stories. Also can I say props to all of the interesting and amusing side characters?

Side note: I was so happy writing this that I had to edit for grammar multiple times. I've hit a new low.

Edit: I actually went back and reread the entire story, and it's still just as good. #Addicted <<less

Both the ML and FL are perfect! He Xiu is very understanding and respectful towards Jiang Yan and her boundaries. He asks for consent to make sure FL is okay. He is incredibly sweet and caring towards her. FL too complements him very well and there is communication! There is no unnecessary drama or third person trying to get in between.

But what I like most in this story is that:

  1. The author didn't redeem the tr*sh father of the ml. Neither did the ML forgive him and improved his relationship with him. He gets what he deserved. Instead of separating his son from his vicious wife he lets them stay together. Instead of looking after his kids he consistently fights with his wife. He could have handled the situation better. He didn't want the world to know that his picture perfect family was not so perfect.
  2. The FL is independent and continues to work even after marriage! This is rare in these modern chinese novels. I've read several novels where the FL stops working after she becomes a mother. There is nothing wrong with that but it does become tedious to see it in most novels. Not all girls dream to marry a rich guy and become a simple housewife.
  3. He Chen! All he wanted was his brother to pay attention to him. What a sweet guy. I loved him the most.

I really like this romance. The FL is hard working and successful and is very likeable. Same thing with the ML. There is no misunderstanding or second guessing. The ML likes her, feels her out, and tries get close to her. Isn't that the standard approach to romance? Simple, uncomplicated and very nice reading.

3.5/5

Light, sweet story of how 2 successful people met and got to know each other. I actually found their relationship to be quite circumstantial and not overly romantic, although in some ways still a little sweet. Rather, I actually like how FL has a strong character in building her own future, while still being flexible and open to the changes that meeting ML had brought her. Her view of fashion and how it can aid in a person's confidence was also quite touching, unlike the usual superficial "oh I just... more>> like anything that's branded and expensive" type of outlook. ML is a boss but not the 'overbearing CEO' type. Quite sweet in following and FL around too. If there's anything I'm not satisfied with, it's that they barely even chased/pursue each other? But they're older so having less of that young romantic spirit is understandable I guess... Overall, decent light read, not overly special but it's a good minimal-drama relaxing novel. <<less

Hmm, this one is for a light read. One word that comes to my mind whenever I think of the main couple is: casual. They're both casual and have this go-with-the-flow attitude in love. Before that, I'd like to say that the translation quality is good. I previously have read some of Chestnut's works but some of their translation were just not that appealing so I had this impression that the stories were similar. But I decided to give this a shot. Thankfully, it's not disappointing.

I don't really have much... more>> comment about the characters because just like what I have mentioned, their relationship for me happened casually. They met, talked, got to know each other, liked each other, then decided to be together. That kind of flow. No complicated drama just some sad background story that contributed to their present attitude and personality.

Aside from them, I was actually more anticipating the side characters. I was hoping for side stories but Li Zhen and Tang Zheng's. But I am happy with how He Chen turned out. <<less

I'm gonna be generous and give this a five-star just because ML is not cold, scary and stoic. Hallelujah!

ML and FL actually have a common connection and it's believable why they would be together.

And they have actual conversations, heart to heart talks and character growth.

... more>> I love even more, are the people around them, especially ML's brother arc. It's heartwarming because it's done subtly.

As with other novels by Chestnut, there's really very little drama, and it's just fluff, but this time, not too much. Author is weak at satisfactory endings though, maybe because her novels are usually smooth sailing so there's minimal change in the phase of the story.

Overall, I agree with author, He Xiu is definitely better than Song Nanchuan <<less

This called me a single dog a billion times & I would like to file a complaint...

If you’re looking for a lighthearted, minimal drama, sweet romance that involves manhua, fashion, & voice-con attributes, this is for you! The premise baited me, but the fact that ML had a voice that would make you eargasm made me see the story in a whole new light. Yes, I may be just pushing my voice-con preferences here but it is worth it! Both FL & ML have their share of family troubles; they... more>> both have suffered in the past. & I relish in the fact that they DO inspire one another to grow. I love that! It’s a non-toxic, balanced relationship. No dog-blood plot, the pacing is nice, & I enjoyed seeing their relationship progress. Definitely a worthwhile read if you’re looking to be smothered with dog food! <<less

I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT THIS NOVEL MAKES ME WANT TO SCREAM IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT WHEN EVERYONE IS SLEEPING BECAUSE OF IT'S FLUFFINESS😭😭

I like how detailed the author and translator with the fashion things.

It was ok this novel for three stars as a plain slice of life and plain love novel but c31 really even with "april fools" gave me an awful taste.

Spoiler

As "april fools" fake chapter, it details of them sleeping together (***) which it's not for me. They weren't even married, or at the boyfriend/girlfriend group, just friends.

P.S. Besides what are those colleagues doing, are they not seeing the obvious interaction and no gossips?
