After rebirth, Shen Yuanye discovered that her Weibo page was able to foresee the future.

As soon as she followed the other party’s Weibo page, it would immediately refresh to show the other party’s [Portrait of the Deceased], [Date of Death], and [Picture of the Death Scene].

……Eventually, the foreseeing function of her Weibo page had upgraded.

“Film Emperor Zhang and Empress of Pop Li, who fights everyday……are actually in the same Portrait of the Deceased?”

“Singer was killed……the mu*derer’s shoe was photographed at the death scene?”

“The new young actress and the Film Empress……died at the same time?”

Jiang Pan: Why do you not follow me on Weibo?

Shen Yuanye: ……

That was because she did not want to see both of them together in his Portrait of the Deceased after she followed him on Weibo. I shall unfollow you, unfollow!

I dropped this novel for a few reasons, though I might pick it back up. It can be summarized in two points: It's too culturally Chinese in a bad way (social issues), and the plot devices are too exaggerated. I think it's a novel concept, but the execution is just.... really not that good

Spoiler

-ML is older, and honestly, kinda creepy. It's not sweet. I don't know how the romance even progresses when he's like this

-How do the police actually somehow justify this stuff? Why does the ML even believe her so easily? The suspension of disbelief needs to be very high. Also, you need to give the police weird novel super powers to have it work

-There's like blatant abuse of authority from the police/and the wealthy to settle grudges or punish so called criminals in ways that are pretty uncomfortable. It's just the classic Chinese authority figure/rich worship, which is in most novels. Like they just.. beat criminals and stuff and somehow the criminals confess? Idk it does not play out in any realistic way

-The novel has some parts written which are supposed to 'empower' women but then the actual MC is hella reliant on ML and they end up forcing traditional Chinese womanly virtues on situations where they don't make sense

-What actually made me drop the novel is MC at the start was like "I need to use this power responsibly for the public good" and when she sees

Spoiler

the future where a gay couple get outed, then mu*der/su*cides, she just.... does nothing? She also kinda describes it in a way which puts them down?? Hello? Why.... She just straight up saw the future and didn't do literally anything, and then when she found out it happened in the news she's just like oh and forgets about it immediately.

[collapse]

Seriously a huge moral failure and a major example of Chinese culture being straight up backwards on social issues. This is the same MC who warned somebody to avoid breaking a bone, but entirely caused a tragedy in this case because conservatism brainrot

This story was alright. A fair warning, the focus on the romance is minimal. Most of this story is the FL using her new power to find mu*derers for the police, a smaller part of the story is about the FL going about her daily life as a model, an even smaller part is about the conspiracy on her life, and finally there is a teensy part about romance. The FL is cold and initially she doesn't want to help catch criminals cause she fears for her own safety but... more>> eventually she realizes that she can't watch people she knows get hurt so she gets more involved. Later on, she softens up a bit and starts to help with cases with people of people she doesn't know personally.

The ML is a cop and because they're both people who show their affection so understatedly, it's not even clear that he's into her lol.

Spoiler

They don't get together until the last chapter. They have one almost date before then where they only ate dinner lol.

[collapse]

The mu*der cases are pretty simple and the story progresses like a cop show with a case of the week that needs to be solved. In many ways this reminds me of a J-drama based on crime where the romance takes a back seat to the police work. <<less

I really like the novel. Not only about fortune-telling but also about mu*der cases. MC helps the police to solve cases and helps friends or colleagues who will have an accident. Even though it's too fast every time to solve a case, but after all it's still understandable. The romance is so slow that until chapter 100 there isn't even an emotional development. The novel is more criminal than romance, and modeling is not too highlighted.

A very very engaging story which I am happy that it has been taken up by one of my favorite translators. The story is more of a crime thriller than a love story; it is not fluffy and at times, it is quite dark. But it is very engaging with characters that are well-rounded and not one-dimensional. The FL is very astute and doesn't use the newly gained power to be arbitrary or headstrong. She is also quite cute when interacting with the ML who can be clueless at times... more>> when it comes to romance. Please add this to your reading list and you won't be disappointed. <<less

This one is really good if your into reading crime shows but if you’re looking for romance then probably read something else. The crime mysteries are pretty interesting though so if you’re into thrillers this would be pretty good.

This was 3 steps away from being a fortune-telling, mystery novel masterpiece with a clever female MC. This is not a crime novel; it's more for people who like the concept of fortune-telling to help solve mysteries while also being a strong character MC story. I genuinely love the MC. She is calm but not overly so, clever, resilient, and capable. I also like that despite her having a personality and temperament that would fit a good police officer, she has her own dreams and persuit of being a supermodel.... more>> Pure model, no unnecessary acting entertainment bs. So refreshing. Everything about her is the right amount of caring & clever but cautious, proactive/determined but never overly reckless, and brave but never s*upid. She alone is worth 5 stars.

The writing touches the ceiling of masterpiece but is held back by the author's inability to write a convincing police force/interactions. It's decent once you get into it, but you will also realize that when the ML is doing "capable police stuff" the writing always always reverts to "telling" over showing writing. Considering how good the rest of the writing is, it stands out when the author backs out like this. Then, there are some minor story um "forgetful" moments where I think the author forgets very minor things or doesn't fully describe how we got there. It's very minute. It's glaring to me bc I can see the masterpiece potential from this novel. Lastly, tbh I could psychoanalyze the sh*t out of this author with their writing decisions, but this is what really brought the rating to a 4 for me.

Spoiler

to be fair, I think the author had good intentions by finally giving lesbian representation in a heteros*xual novel and overall highlighting the growing acceptance and challenges for lesbians especially as celebrities. That's my preface. Bc tbh I'm not sure queer really exists in a lot of BG novels like this. So I think this was added with good intentions. HOWEVER...I mean lol I think the author actually wrote the MC out of character for what the author did to the lesbians.

I genuinely don't know if it's better to just not have any queer representation versus having lesbian representation to then make their love story become a common tragic "suicidal/homicidal" story & not only that, but be the ONLY one that the MC forgets the death date about, never warns any of them about the deaths, and have be the only deaths the the MC is like 'oops I can't save everyone but I do really feel bad that I forgot about their deaths'. Not to mention I just realized, unless I read this incorrectly, she forgot they died on the day she had a dinner with the ml. That's some heteros*xual shit. Likee is there internalized h*mophobia the author doesnt know they have? I mean look I can psychoanalyze like I said a lot of things from this novel about the author if I wanted to, but it is all speculation.

However, the facts are I don't actually think the MC is at fault here. I think the author wrote her out of character. She wouldn't forget about someone's death date like that. Unless the author is writing her with internalized h*mophobia Lmao. but no I think this is the case of the author trying to do a good thing while also showing their cards they didn't even know they had in their brains. AGAIN SPECULATION. But it's still facts that the author didn't have to end the ONLY queer representation in this novel so tragically and honestly negligently - basically the author went "oops the gays are dead and damn didn't even try do anything to prevent it" lol. And that's where I was like author what a shame. Kinda ruined this 5 star for me.

And too bad bc I love the MC and ML a Lot. They don't have crazy passion but I just likee how capable and smart and helpful they are. They're just there for each other.

That was my 2 cents. Don't let this push u away from it. I don't actually think the author means to be homophobic lol. Like I said.

[collapse]
the MC is really incredible. Every time I had a thought about "what about this or that" "did you forget about this", she always without fail addressed it and/or thinks about it (except for the part I put in the spoilers; imo her OOC moment) And I love that the ML actually really cares about his job. I also really like how the other characters genuinely act and have their own thinking moments. This was first shown to me with the trainee haiwen (I think her name is that) case where she made a lot of decisions herself -- the author wrote it so well that you can follow her emotional and cognitive journey. She was her own main character in those moments.

The characterization and concept of this novel, although predictable, is thoroughly refreshing, generally well done, and enjoyable to read, especially for supernatural modern day fans. <<less

Idk if it's cos it's mtl but I found it hard to understand her actions. I know she's protecting herself but the attitude is quite nonchalant sometimes. And the way she ignores / is cold to the survivors is quite strange, if she's a smart person, she can use that to protect herself better. Also, a LOT of her celebrity connections meet unfortunate events like mu*der etc which is quite a high rate because technically, as public personas, it shouldn't be that frequent... Just a sense of disconnect here.

Reborn celebrity model has a fortune telling Weibo cheat and helps the police solve mu*der mysteries. Translation was good.

I thought it'd be light and fluffy, but it wasn't. As someone who doesn't read mu*der mysteries/horror, I found some of the death scenes too grisly for my taste.

There's a bit of nationalistic victimization (non-Chinese international models make racist comments about the FL at an overseas show. As if those international models who have been to New York, Paris, London, etc., had never seen a non-Caucasian models before, lol...), but this is... more>> super common in celebrity/entertainment chinese novels. <<less

This story is full of mystery, I love it! Feels kinda like reading detective conan with a cheat.

The MC truly didn't have it easy at first to help the police. She really seems suspicious. When the story slowly unravels, more importantly, about MC's past, It was truly anticlimatic. I was left with the thought "oh it was only just like this". Made me feel kinda dissapointed.

ML and MC relationship is kinda flat. Their relationship just slightly picked up at the end and left me wanting more. It was somewhat anticlimatic,... more>> too. MC just suddenly straight out told ML about their future and ML just suddenly realizing he like her.

I give this story 5 stars mostly for suspense and mystery! <<less

Binge-read this and it was quite a fun time. The book has many mystery cases, with a mix of entertainment industry (mostly related to modelling), family secret, and romance on the side. Not to forget the female lead weibo's extra function that assists her in solving criminal case along with the police team. The male lead is pretty reliable too and 'sweet' in his own way (though this last part will be shown near the end of the story). Overall, although there are some parts that felt too unfortunate, it's... more>> a light hearted read that I enjoy a lot♡ Thank you! <<less

Good one. The amount written was written very well. And the aspects not explored or ignored or neglected... might have made this novel unforgettable for me. But it was still a good crime and mystery novel in the genre. This type of precognition through technology is new to me, haven't read any other of this type.

I like the slow romance. It wasn't slow, it was there but in subtle hints and not over the top fixated, smitten affection.

Some themes were touched very subtly, I wished writer had written more about... more>> them.

To sum up,

Good MC, intelligent, not heaven defying beauty but a beauty nonetheless.

Macho Ml, a straight man, as called in the novel.

Good story build up.

And that's all.

Warning!

Ending is super abrupt literally in the middle of a scene. It left a bad aftertaste.

The Master, this angle wasn't explored much and was the tool for the story.

Parents, also a tool for the story to progress and nothing to engage emotionally.

Sometimes it looks devoid of emotions. To some extent it was justified but you can not completely discard emotional connection (parents).

That's all. <<less

The novel is just so exhausting to read. The plot itself is very promising, the mysteries are also intriguing; but the flaw is in the writing itself. It's just so so boring.

I have only reached chapter 20, but I can say that there are wayyy too many fillers that didn't move the plot, doesn't give anything to the story, to the point I thought I was just in chapter 4-5. The paragraphs would just go on and on and on and it never gets to the point.

The reason I came... more>> to give the review so early in the story is because I noticed I start skimming it. You never want to skim-read novels. You skim reports and papers and academic books. Novels are for pleasure. So when you start treating reading novels as an exhaustive task, there must be something really wrong here.

At just C20, I can sum up the flaws of this novel into 3 points.

  • Unnecessary Writing - there are just too many pages for too little story. The author would describe every little thing but there would be only 2 sentences that's really important. Not to mention the descriptive parts were not even captivating to read.
  • Uninteresting Characters - every character that showed up so far was pretty much the same character. There were nothing distinctive about each and any of them. They act the same, talk the same, think the same. They are so un-human.
  • Terrible Lead - the main character also has a personality of a rock. She's not charming, not strong, not funny, not smart, not righteous... All you ever know about her is that she's pretty... You can replace her with a vase and it's probably still the same story.
It's such a shame that such an interesting plot has such bad execution.

On the other hand, the translation is great. Barely any mistake at all. Props to the translator!

I think I'll try to continue for the next arc, but so far, not a lot of hope. <<less

Overall okay, good read for crime and mystery solving. I just found the amount of cases excessive and as a result, unrealistic. There are so many mu*der cases, back to back. It's like everyone's dying or about to die everyday. Also the romance was very lacking, even in the last chapter there is barely any depiction of them as a couple. Also the FL is usually so smart when solving cases, but becomes really slow when it comes to matters of the heart.

Its quite ok. Good horror atmosphere but the motive for killing are still cliche or make in my opinion no sense. mu*derer is upset und just stabs the victim in the stomach.... ok?

The romance here is almost non existent... two cool und silent guys get together = double silence. Not enough dog food.

Only 3 stars for me.

This novel is full of flaws, but it is enjoyable if you're looking for some light mystery and crime solving.

To put it bluntly, this is a dumbed down detective Conan. There is no underlying plot, no creative mu*der scenes to explore and, in fact, no actual investigation. The author simply takes you through the motions, describing a bit of the scenario and providing you with the results of the investigation/interrogation while skipping a large part of the process. He focuses more on delivering the emotional development of the characters and... more>> weighing the morality of MC's choices. This makes up about 2/3 of the story, the remaining 1/3 is split in 66% professional life, 19% personal life, 10% fortune telling, and the remaining 5% is "romance" (actually just the basic appreciation one would have for an attractive person).

The pacing and carefully inserted comedic moments really makes this story shine, otherwise it would be really too difficult to suspend disbelief, or to appreciate the writing.

Don't expect anything too serious here. <<less

A Celebrity. Showbiz theme. Helping people and Saving people make her get a better life. And Case fic. Solving Case and Catching bad people. Those all my Favorite things.

But never expected Celebrity x Police. Now that's new things! While the Romance only Sub-plot, I'm Liking it!

The Interaction between MC and ML so far Pretty Good!

Then the Supernatural theme. I Love how she said she's a Fortune Teller so people would listen to her warning, but she's not entirely depend on the Weibo. Sure 90% she's focused on it, but I... more>> love the idea she also tried to learn real Fortune Telling from Genuine person.

I really like the story progress so far. And the Mystery that still surrounding her.

I pray the rest of the story have satisfactory ending!!! I pray the translation would keep going till complete!!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 <<less

Very well-paced novel that follows Shen Yuanye and her adventures on Weibo. I really like how it kept me hooked because a lot of novels feels like a slog to get through in the middle parts. It is to the point that I don't think the chapters are enough but it was also a good choice to end there ... more>>
Spoiler

It revealed the mystery of Shen Yuanye's original death in the first chapter and her identity

[collapse]

The criminal cases SY and Jiang Pan are involved in are good. Though I have to admit that if you prefer reading crime scene novels where the readers are given enough infornation to guess the criminal then this novel doesn't quite do that. It is nonetheless a smooth read and there are a ton of cases tgat are memorable.

I guess that most of the reviews have also mentioned about the romance of MC and ML. The author tried to give hints but it didn't really stick to me as a reader. Rather I think this is because we didn't really see the ML much aside from his connection to MC. The author does enough to make Jiang Pan dependable and trustworthy for Shen Yuanye to give it a try.

Spoiler

I guess that one of the qualms people have is the fact that the lack of the development of romance between the two leads can make some reader think that SY is only trying a relationship because she saw in the future that they got married (he died of old age on her tombstone).

[collapse]

I do think that they could have had added more chapters/arcs near the end when MC narrows down the identity of the person who wants her to be.

Overall, it is a good read! I really enjoyed MC, the crime scenes and her modelling career. <<less
