After hatching endless plots and suffering innumerable hardships, the demons of the Demonic Realm finally managed to resurrect the Ancient Demon King.

The demons of the Demonic Realm had hoped that the Ancient Demon King would not only lead them in waging a war against the Heavenly Realm and enable them to lord their superiority over the Immortals, he would also ultimately gain control over the entire realm.

Gradually, however, they discovered that their thoughts were very, very wrong.

Whilst it is true that this Ancient Demon King still retains his aura of superiority and possesses unlimited powers, he…

He seems to be a mental case…

It’s alright even if he changes orders and does things in an incomprehensible way.

But what’s with his habit of muttering under his breath, nagging and conversing with himself the entire day!

Small Orchid: He’s not ill, he’s just despicable (贱jian)…can’t stand to see (见jian) people live a good life.

Dong Fang: I am only unable to endure seeing you live a good life.

Small Orchid: …

*T/N: The Chinese pronunciation for the word “despicable” is the same as the word “see” – thus, the author is trying to show that Small Orchid, while trying to scold Dong Fang, is also careful not to incur his wrath, which is why she tried to imbue another meaning into her sentence after scolding him.

Planning to reread this after the epilogues are completed. I really like this novel. I initially read this because somebody compared it to Mulberry Song with a happy ending and I really love that short story. Slow romance but character progression is 5/5 and the flower demon is so cute. The Big devil used the flower demon to re-energize the only god who ever defeated him so he can fight her again and become undefeated. He did accomplish this, but regretted it after and tried to get her soul t... more>> become whole again even to the cost of his life. <<less

It's my first try on Jiu Lu Fei Xiang's work. A very good work although I have not proceeded to the following Epilogues but still, I can conclude that she did the book well. One aspect of the novel I can point out is the domineering attitude of Dong Fang Qing Cang, which I think is purposive with regards to the plot of the book.

This protagonist (DFGC) appears to be loathsome to Little Orchid and to the readers as well. This states a whole new perspective where we get to... more>> look at the lives of a wicked person instead of the righteous prince trying to save the whole world. And it is indeed a fresh new outlook of viewing things. Furthermore, the contrast between the personality of the two protagonist is adding more on the complexity of instances. I wonder how this story would turn out in a drama. <<less

Honestly, I really liked the novel, even the ML's and the FL's characters and the flaws they had really made it dramatic
Spoiler

in the middle of the story till the end, gosh.

, but oh well, it happens.
Don't read the spoiler 2 it's really spoiling.

GOSH guys, be careful of what you wish for. Our ML in this story really had a biggish desire, no joke and because of this, SHORTLY I MEAN, there was no communication anymore between ML and FL as FL started to get influenced by Chi De WOMAN, so yea, but still liked it. Though I'd wish there won't be any couples like these in reality, in fantasy... barely acceptable.. meh, at least ML tried to be better in front of her in some little miny tiny parts.

Do I recommend? Yea I do, tho 4 stars because of the troupe "finding something reasonable" as Total Drama and prolongs the chapters, to be known;p.

P.S.: No bed scenes, yeey. And the translators bananachocolatecosmos are amazing!!! they put pictures and some of the ancient ones I really liked, and the translating is very good, just some little mistakes like letters, but still doesn't change the fact that the translation is really good and you very easily understand it, thank you translators!. (Ate today bananas 7 or 8 really, I'm not joking 8.8)

Good Night, :D

Another great novel by Jiu Lu Fei Xiang! She has a way of writing her main characters so that you will empathize and grow to love them, in this case Little Orchid. And boy does Little Orchid go through a journey in this novel! She never gets a break, constantly just trying to survive. She’s not the smartest female lead ever and she’s pretty weak, however, there’s an iron will in her to live no matter the circumstances. And that’s something deeply admirable, that she will always find a way to crawl back even if she’s shedding tears and blood at the same time (she does cry often, but it doesn’t feel contrived and honestly if I was in those situations I’d be bawling my eyes out too).

Demon King Dong Fang Qing Cang definitely lives up to being the black bellied male lead. He isn’t a good person and only cares about battle at the beginning of the story. His character stays consistent, it’s not like he miraculously turns good through the power of love. In a way, it was interesting to read about such a male lead who might normally be the villain in these stories. His interactions with Little Orchid were interesting and unique to read about, and seeing their relationship change and improve was fun. While he’s definitely not the type of male lead I like, I did grow to understand him as a character and care about him.

Personally I wasn’t as interested in the side characters or the story. Nothing really seemed to grab my attention, and I felt like the two main characters were the only aspect that kept me reading. This could just be in line with the nature of this novel, which focused heavily on Little Orchid and Demon King. It was awesome whenever Sansheng or Si Ming showed up though!

Spoiler

Even though Demon King does learn to love Little Orchid, his possessive type of love isn’t something I can agree with personally or really like to see in a novel. In these types of stories there’s often the cute jealousy trope, however, I think Demon King’s over possessiveness at the end of the story isn’t good for Little Orchid.

That being said, I really do like them as a couple as I think they’re better together than apart. It was nice reading how they slowly grew to care for each other and realize their feelings. You could feel their chemistry grow in their journey. I do wish the Demon King groveled more for Little Orchid though, he really did cause her death and deserved to feel some more pain! It would be so fun to read about them living a normal life with kids, I really wonder what kind of mom and dad they would be ^~^!

Lastly, the Chi De woman had such a tragic story I felt sad for her. She deserved better : (

Thank you Jiu Lu Fei Xiang for another great novel, and thank you bananachocolatecosmos for all the hard work translating it (even in the middle of exams) ! Your pictures at the beginning of every chapter were so beautiful and introduced me to so many Chinese artists! *Sends air hug

I saw some of the drama and was interested in the original story - the drama definitely is very loosely inspired, so the book was not exactly as I expected. I like the silly hijinks, but the plot is a bit underdeveloped and the translation quality is just serviceable.

Despite their high expectations, the resurrected Ancient Demon King's erratic behavior baffled the demons. His incessant muttering and strange habits overshadowed his formidable powers. Small Orchid, though critical, cautiously tiptoed around his temper, cleverly using a wordplay to scold him without provoking his wrath.

The beginning was a comedy, then angst, and then a nice romance. Takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions. ML and FL are both imperfect - FL is too naive but you don't hate her. ML is manipulative but you can understand why. Well-written characters that have character development, the author knows how to slowly build chemistry. You learn to hate ML but then understand love is a new emotion to him, while FL is learning that the world isn't all happy, the love story between these two is just... more>> amazing.

The ending was a bit abrupt and just ended without showing romantic moments between the two, which was a bit annoying. Even in the extras, I felt like there wasn't a build-up, I wanted to see their relationship grow and cute moments between them!!

I loved reading this, a lot of angst though. <<less

Finished main story and epilogues. I started reading after watching the drama, so I was attached from the beginning. I enjoyed a lot.

Natural progression of feelings and true to character. When they change or regret or admit, it makes sense based on the circumstances and what they have endured.

If you are coming here from the drama, several of the various and sometimes weird decisions made in the drama plot begin to make sense. The plot of this is quite different from the drama.

Odd final arc with Tai Sui post-XLH resurrection: After causing her death and nursing her back to health, DFQC needs to regret more, and there has to be a reason for XLH to finally reveal that she does have her memories. In webnovel, it was during battle against Rong Hao, but Rong Hao realised the error of his ways in the show and died earlier. Therefore could not be in final battle.
