Yu Sui and Shi Luo met each other when they were much younger. One was a pro-gamer, a widely-renowned, best of the best, in-game medic. The other was an e-sports newcomer who was just starting out. The two originally played for the same team, during which their relationship became increasingly deep.

But things did not go as expected. Yu Sui went to Europe and Shi Luo changed his in-game job to become a striker. The two belonged to different teams and different divisions, with oceans between them, each doing wonderfully …

They had become two tigers on separate mountains. The last thing anyone expected was for Yu Sui to return to the domestic league two years later. There was no way to avoid it and the two met once again.

For a novel that somehow manages to encompass every single plot point/character development trend I don't normally enjoy (in a personal preference sort of way), it was pretty fun to read.

Let me explain.

First of all, the MC is a little angsty chunibyo, but he's my little angsty chunibyo. He's manipulative and bratty but also endearing and pitiful, especially when his backstory is revealed. There are sensible reasons for why he acts the way he does, and even though I was sometimes frustrated by his actions, there was never a situation... more>> where I disliked him or where I couldn't understand why he lashed out the way he did. In regards to his characterization, I think the author did an amazing job of keeping him consistent and using what happened to him in the past to shape his personality in the present.
Spoiler

He's had a pretty tough life. His mother dumped him on his neglectful father with an empty promise of taking him back later, and his father saw him as nothing but a tool to wheedle a little more money from the MC's grandfather. His grandfather didn't care for him, and his cousin's family, who treated him the "kindest" out of all his relatives, only did so with the intent of removing him from the inheritance power struggle altogether. All this accumulates to a sh*t ton of abandonment issues, which is worsened by the fact that the ML does the exact same thing to the MC despite knowing what the MC went through (even if he had valid reasons for why he did so).

[collapse]
So when the MC constantly tests the affections the ML has for him, when he constantly teeters between anger and nostalgia from the past, I can sympathize. He's not my preferred type of MC, because I'm not a fan of impulsive, wear-your-heart-on-your-sleeve (to the ML at least) kind of MC's, but I still somehow ended up liking him.

The ML.... is hard to describe. I think the author did too good of a job making me hate him him for like the first twenty chapters (when we didn't know what happened on his end and only saw the whole betrayal from the MC's POV) because even though his actions were 100% reasonable and even done for the good of the MC, I sometimes find it hard to like him. In my head I know he's a good person but my heart just says "bad!! stinky!!" every time I see his name... It's probably also my personal bias against the type of ML he is, which is a more mature, teacher/mentor-like "Holy Father". He's just so... nice and willing to suffer in silence that I wanted to shake him. The other characters in the novel call him a slag-man and honestly, that kind of sums it up perfectly. He irritates me, but at the same time I melt when he does something romantic or says something sweet.

To be honest, I really don't vibe with how he knows full well the MC is scheming to get his attention but lets him do it anyway. It just sort of feels like he's treating the MC as a child, and to be fair, the MC is kind of a child (19 years old, but it's pretty easy to forget) but it's just not the type of relationship I typically enjoy. In the end it just boils down to personal preference - I don't like it when the ML can tease the MC so mercilessly and the MC is too emotionally constipated/smitten to do anything back. Even if the MC digs his own pits. I'm really sensitive to secondhand embarrassment, and this novel made me suffer.

But I guess I'm also a bit of a M because I keep coming back for more.

The first thirty/forty chapters of this novel is just heavy angst, like literal knives, but eventually it gets a bit more lighthearted and funny. This is pretty unique for an e-sports novel, and I think the author did really well in showing the potential dark aspects of professional gaming. Additionally, while FOG is, of course, a key component of the novel, there's a good balance between gaming and story/romance. We get a good look at characters beside the main couple and watch their development as well.

As expected from Chrysanthemum Garden, the translation quality is excellent. The translator is doing a fantastic job, and I would like to thank them for all their effort and hard work.

Overall, I would say that FOG is a pretty decent read, and I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed it, especially considering how much it clashed with my personal preferences. It's angsty, well-written, and entertaining to boot. A 4.0/5.0 stars for me. <<less

This deserves more 5 stars!! My Favorite ongoing gaming novel right now. Lots of flash backs so far, but the good kind, and the build up of their relationship is great. MC and ML have a lot of backstory, and I can't wait to find out what actually happened. ML treated MC soooo good in the past, and was probably the first person to treat him so well. I really like the MC too, he's super smart and self aware of himself and everyone around him, being able to see... more>> right through everyone. I thought that MC hated the ML, but all he wants is actually to be on the same team again T.T

Spoiler

There's a scene where they're at a welcome back party for the ML, & MC brings out 10 glasses full of high % alcohol except one glass, and makes a bet with the ML, forcing him to pick one and drink it. (ML has a medical condition where he can't drink anymore). The bet being that if he picks out the one cup that's fill with tea, MC will sign with ML's team for free. ML ends up drinking the cup with the tea, and then leaves. But he's suspicious, so comes back and tries all the cups, and it turns out that all of the cups were tea so, ML had a 100% chance to "win".

This was a lot more emotionally charged than I expected it to be, but it's a breathe of fresh air when compared to the amount of fluffier, lighthearted Esports novels out there. In fact, the beginning was so full of knives I kept stalling, every few sentences had me browsing twitter for a few minutes or wander off to get a drink of water to relieve some of the tension I felt.

MC and ML are quite dimensional and feel very humane, especially MC. To be honest, I didn't really like... more>> him, but even so I wanted to support him wholeheartedly and slowly he became my favorite out of the whole story. He's quite a lot though; very emotional and quick to anger or fluster, he's manipulative at times and not always the best, in fact he's quite "problematic". However he's a good person deep down, he's had a very rough past and serious abandonment issues + the ML is a willing participant to everything make it a whole lot more forgiving, or at least a bit more palatable. That said, he's quick to fluster so your tolerance for second hand embarrassment might be tested here and sometimes I stare into the sky wishing he had more composure or at least could be a bit firmer towards the ML when angry. It's also nice that ML is realistic, he's not some secret rich man with a powerful family. He's one of the top players and popular for sure but it's not like the industry just bows to his whims and even popularity can only go so far.

It's a very good story and it's quite refreshing to read something that is eSports and it's not just sugar or success all the way down to the end. Since it's a lot more emotional than the summary suggests, it can absolutely take you off guard at the start so be aware as you start reading. <<less

I'm feeling kinda empty after finishing this right now so I don't have much to say. It's good. Romance is good, gameplay is good, everything is good.

There's a lot of angst in the beginning, and the flashbacks made me really confused reading this at first (the flashbacks aren't bad, it's also not badly written, I just simply suck and dislike reading flashbacks, no matter how important they are), but it turned out to be really good after the minor-ish misunderstanding between the readers and the ML is resolved.

The ML is... more>> gentle as af, makes me want to take him out of the book and sleep with him (Edit: I mean in the platonic "fall asleep while talking to each other" way and I just realised how weird that sounds), the MC is a tsundere, but also cares and loves the ML as much as the ML loves him.

This novel is quite different from other e-sports novel, No "my hand is hurt and I have to go to the USA to heal it" ML, no completely non-existent teammates, no "I can easily defeat four other top players in the game without even trying hard" MC and just really different from other BL e-sports novels in general, and it was really fresh for me.

Definitely recommend it, sorry for the bad review and terrible English. Have a nice day. <<less

Grumpy stray cat MC + gentle scum man ML. You're going to hate the ML in the first 15 chapters or so, when it's from the MC's POV and hella angsty. Seriously, I felt so suffocated reading about the MC's experiences. HOWEVER - I promise you that he's not really a scum man. In later chapters, MC is super cute and coquettish (while still maintaining his cold wolf cub demeanor in front of everyone else), and ML is doting and so smooth.

This is one of the most emotional e-sport novel I've read. Unlike other e-sport novels like Waiting for You Online and Guide on How to Fail in Online Dating, there's very little gaming scenes. This novel focus more on the behind-the-scenes in the sports industry and the real life struggles of the MC, his teammates, and even their competitors. Each character is so full of life and you can feel the pain and joy of each of them as they share their stories with their teammates and the depressing reality... more>> behind the glory of being a professional gamer. There's a lot of political bs and dirty secrets within the professional sport industry. It's said how this bs tore apart the MC, ML, and their team.

All the angst in the beginning of the novels makes the fluff between the MC and ML even cuter. The ML is mean to his other teammates (particularly towards Chen Huo😂) but treats the MC so gently (very similar to San Lang from HOB). All the pain the MC went through alone is the reason why the ML becomes particularly indulgent towards the MC (just like LWJ in MDZS).

Besides the CP development, the MC's comical interactions with his teammates and player from other teams is another highlight of the story. You truly feel the sense of kinsmanship and community within the team and the other teams. There are so many likable characters in this story. Even with the MC's bratty attitude, you can't help but respect him for the mature moments he displayed and his resilience towards cyber bullying.

This scene in chapter 84 is one of the most heartwarming moments as the MC listens to each of his teammates express their genuine thoughts about the MC. 🥺🥺🥺

Spoiler

Snippet from Ch 84

Chen Huo said wearily, "If that brat Shi Luo suddenly breaks his hand tomorrow, I would rather him play with one arm than let a substitute stand in for him."

Shi Luo outside the door was startled.

"We'll carry him if we have to... " Puppy slowly said. "He's been targeted by the sprayers for so long because he doesn't have any World Championship experience... If he hadn't been tossed about because of all the sh*t that went down two years ago, he should have f*cking made it to the World Championships already. Sigh, we really shouldn't dwell on this... "

Yu Sui said indifferently, "On Shi Luo's behalf, I would like to thank you for all the poisoned milk. Now, his hand will never be broken in this life."

Old Qiao smiled, "Then, we're going to have to work extra hard. This year, we must rush to the World Championship to get Evil there."

Shi Luo was leaning outside the door. A moment later, he lowered his head and smiled.

Story starts okay in the beginning. We have MC and ML fighting about something that we readers have yet to understand. However, in my opinion, in the end, the crux of matter is MC childishness. Yes, I get that he has trauma thanks to his upbringing, but it should not warrant the fight of this scale. It is not fair for MC to blame ML since the situation at that time does not allow ML to do anything else. Not to mention that the ML has proven his words of... more>> coming back.

After MC and ML reconcile, honestly the story become boring. It will be better if the author focused a bit more toward the e-sport part but chapter after chapter I only see the pair doing lovey-dovey without any purpose in driving the story.

I would love to see the author delve into Yu Sui background more. Like how he was before he become the superstar he is now. Alas.... <<less

It was little slow to start off with. If im honest I skipped and skimmed through a few paragraphs on several occasions.

It supposed to be gaming novel but it lacks that excitement for me. Instead of talking about the actions in game it focuses more on situation of the teams... It skipped through a lot of the matches. I found that disappointing...

I like the characters. The main couple is sweet. The shou is a tsundere and a crybaby in private (at times). He supposed to be tough but somwhow I... more>> found him lacking in that aspect. His partner seems cold but is actually loving and dedicated. I do like them both.

The extras didn't really feel like extras and the end seemed rushed. I wouldn't recommend it but I also wouldn't dissuade anyone from reading. <<less

The characters make sense in this one... like there's a very clear cause and result between their actions and they're easy to understand. There are no moments where they're out of character or do something weird, and if there are it is explained in a way that adds to their complexity instead of breaking it apart.

I already finished this a long time ago but I cannot believe I didn't write a review when I love this so much, so here it goes.

!!!!!!!HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!!!

Since I play online games and stuff, it's easy for me to visualize the whole gameplay scenes but the translator does explain some stuff in order for readers whose not into PC games to understand.

One thing I love about this is the relationship progress and the characters and surprisingly, this is probably the 3rd Male Lead that got me screaming inside!!!

Because!! He!!!! Is!!! So!!! Fcking!!! Awesome!!!!! As!!!! A!!! Lover!!!

But before I gotten into the FAN GIRL OF MR. MALE LEAD, I was part of the fractions who was *ehem*

characters:

mc: shi luo

ml: yu sui

summary: ... more>>
Spoiler

MC started as a down-on-his-luck game livestreamer after a falling out with his family. ML is a successful esports player, and takes MC under his wing to shape him into his protege. shortly after, the club has a falling out with its members and everybody's contracts get sold off. ML and the rest of the team are shipped to europe, leaving MC behind. MC grows resentful of ml, as ML pulled some strings to have MC stay in the domestic league instead of bringing him over as well.

two years later, they reunite and ML starts his own esports club. ML buys mc's contract and they finally clear up the misunderstanding. at the time, MC being the newest and weakest member back then, had no protection in a foreign league, and so would have been safer playing domestically. they reconcile and begin a relationship. ML and team face off against their old european league and win the world championship in the end.

[collapse]

thoughts

OK I have quite a lot of thoughts on this one!! first, its really unlike the other esports novels ive read before, partially because the game involved is fictional, and partially because there isn't a lot of focus on the game itself (at least, in the first half of the story) but moreso on the underbelly of esports which can get pretty nasty and cutthroat. theres greedy capitalists working against the players interests, there's snakes that try to undermine the players efforts, theres found family amongst the players, and theres good depiction of the highs and lows of winning and losing a match. outside that, theres also a good amount of (angsty) family drama for shi luo, which thankfully, wasnt a big part of the story, but still had a role in shaping his character.
Spoiler

i wanna say the emotional aspect of the story is really well done, but funnily most of those 'emotions' comes from frankly some of the most annoying side characters ive ever had the displeasure to meet. I swear to god I have never been so mad at a side character as I have with ji yanhan. the shameless good for nothing bastard really took all of yu sui's hard work, all of the whole team's hard work, and stepped on it without a f*cking care in the world. to have the damn audacity to sell them out and have them outright suffer in a foreign country, just because hes a money grubbing little b*tch, is absolutely rage-inducing. icing on the cake is when he was acting all apologetic one second, then making demands the next - demands that drove yu sui's reputation to the ground and started all these hurtful rumors about him. f*cking vile. the whole drama only spanned 2-3 chapters but I swear it took me over an hour to read because I was. just. so. pissed. the whole time.

and besides him, there's also shi luo's scheming little cousin, shi luo's shitty parents, and yu sui's old sacred sword club - every one of them I legit wanted to throws hands. f*ck. kudos to the author for being able to write so many punchable characters lmao

[collapse]

ALL THAT SAID, the main charactes yu sui and shi luo were so freaking sweet it was more than enough to balance it out!!! they really do love each other... there were so many tender moments in the novel where they both take care of the other person and these little moments of introspection where they silently appreciate each other?? good shit. my absolute jam was when they both thought the other person being too good that they'll never be able to find another romantic partner that can compare... truly a match made in heaven

some of my favourite moments:
Spoiler

when they reunited 2 years later and shi luo offered yu sui strong alcohol as part of a bet to buy him over. it came with the implication that shi luo, acting all tough and unfeeling, couldnt care less if yu sui wrecked his health and bled to death. but as it turns out, the bet was a feign and all this time shi luo was just offering himself to yu sui's team for free :') in then in the extras were yu sui played the same thing to shi luo but this time with proposal gifts???!!! UGH.

when yu sui learned that he was scamming a homeless kid camping out on an internet cafe and feeling all guilty.. when he formally invited shi luo into the team he tried to redeem himself by giving him a whopping salary out of his own pocket and spoiled him and indulged him and took such good care of him.

when shi luo admited that his feelings towards yu sui hadnt developed much given that theyve only known each other for 2 months before they had to separate, but there was definitely something special about him... how if he had been given more time, shi luo wouldve sorted out his feelings and fallen in love for sure :' (the relevation that yu sui and shi luo couldve gotten together 2 years sooner... but theyve spent these 2 years apart and alone and miserable... really hits man.

when shi luo admitted that he was acting all pitiful in front of yu sui to get his attention... such as letting him on in his sad family backstory, how he forced himself to 'cycle at the resusection stone over and over' just so yu sui would feel guilty afterwards, etc etc. but the best part is when yu sui admits that 'when the person he likes schemes, its called acting spoiled' :') hes so indulgent aiya

when shi luo got exposed to listening to yu sui's soundclips but turns out it was really just him putting yu sui's apology from two years ago on loop... and playing it over and over whenever he felt down and needed someone by his side, hed listen to yu sui's voice and find comfort in that... : (

and finally, shi luo's little diary on his side account!! he doesnt show his emotions often, but the insights he posts about their yu sui and their relationship, that not even yu sui is fancy to, gives their love a whole new flavor... its sickening sweet, its so cliche, but oh my god its so cute and so on-brand for shi luo.

Not rating yet, but I just have to complain.

The author is doing a fantastic job in making me hate the ML. I’ve read the reviews, I’ve read the spoilers. I know what the ML did and I know it might be “reasonable”, but unfortunately, when I hate a character, I will hold that grudge til the very end.

I’m writing this to see if my opinion on the ML changes. I hope I eat my words but I doubt it.

The one start is for the existence alone and honestly that's all!

First of all about the MC and ML. It's just a personal opinion but I have never really liked these types of MCs. In the first few chapters the author shows they are really strong in all aspects only to be proven that no matter how strong they are they will never surpass the ML later. The MC wasn't really submessive but the feeling that he is always one step behind from the ML no matter what he is... more>> doing is kind of really diappoineting for me.

In their relationship it always felt like it was only the ML who was talking care of the MC and looking after his every need. It didn't really feel like a mutual thing.

The plot was also not very attractive. In a e-sport novel what I was looking forward to was the game stratagies and the game play etc. But this one almost skipped through all of that. It was instead filled with drama. If I haven't read this novel I would have never known how one can drag the same person over and over again no matter wich ever topic they are discussing. I agree that what the previous maneger did was not at all acceptable. However the many times it was mentioned in the novel... it almost felt like they were trying to create sympathy or something.

I can go on and on about how this was such a time waste for me but this was only a personal opinion. So don't let this review stop you and go read the story for yourself to know if you truly like it or not. <<less

Rating: 4/5- Excellent angsty start with a sort of muddled reconciliation and a misguided revenge plot. Overall, still an enjoyable read.

Romance wise I think FOG is really satisfying. There’s a lot of great fluff and chemistry and the MC and ML are great together. A relatively healthy relationship. I thoroughly enjoyed the angsty beginning but I felt the reconciliation fell a bit short. It didn’t have that necessary confrontation and flow of feelings. It sort of just ended in a tear storm. I just wanted more from both people reuniting... more>> after 2 years and after so many misunderstandings. Knowing that the MC has a history of betrayal from relationships, forgiving the ML so easily and then crying on behalf of the ML felt a bit unrealistic and unnatural.

Also the MCs weird family story kind of got lost somewhere in the story.

I also couldn’t help but feel like the whole revenge plot on the EU team, although they were annoying AF, didn’t seem fitting. The person who messed everything was Ji Yanhan but his revenge was mild and instead all the anger was directed towards a commercial team that benefitted from Ji Yanhan’s decision. I couldn’t help but feel like the real culprit was overlooked. Unless perhaps I’m overlooking a crucial plot point and Ji Yanhan was a victim (didn’t come across that way though).

Overall I still enjoyed reading this as a romance novel. As an e-sports novel, however, it falls quite short. It takes a lot to grab my attention in e-sports novels and this one caught me because of the great pacing and intriguing past between the characters. The actual gameplay and tournament though was not very existent and rushed though. This may have been the author’s intention though.

I can’t help but subconsciously recall GLS whenever I read esports novels, so it’s hard to not compare.

Still a good read overall! <<less

Honestly, one of the most fluffiest reads ever!!!! The chemistry and interactions between the MC and ML are super cute and exceedingly gentle... it simply mets your heart! Even though the author has been Conservative enough to refrain from including explicit Smut, has undoubtedly proven to be a superb talent in being able to ruffle the reader to the core! I was blushing and half stifling while reading through this!!!! Just beautiful.... truly truly beautiful!!! Most definitely worth it!

I remember when I first settled down to camp for this novel & I was so giddy when I found out that it was finally completed. It took me a day to fully digest it & I am squealing with glee! It’s so cute, the interactions between the main CP are intoxicatingly sweet, & I actually love how spunky & snarky our little shou is. It’s different from the usual cinnamon roll type characters we see. Shou is a real cutie but I adore his arrogant little tyrant persona. As... more>> opposed to other esports novels, the gameplay in this one wasn’t too in-depth. Not saying that it’s a bad thing, but there’s just more room & focus for the actual romance rather than a full-blown depiction of each match. I quite like it! I was in it for the romance anyways lol <<less

More like 3.5 but the ending paragraph was just too sweet so I had to bump it to 4.

Very predictable storyline, not that it's a bad thing, but nothing unique about it. The MC and ML aren't my favorite but they aren't bad. They were just missing something in their interactions and their personalities were just meh. The relationship was just too uneven, ML was the best at everything, even pampering, it didn't leave much for the MC. Can't really explain it, just wanted more from their relationship.

The story started... more>> to get a bit boring by chapter 75 ish and I found myself skipping a lot after. The extras don't feel like extras at all, and the ending of the last extra felt more like the end of the main story.

The main villian (the team from Germany) was completely blackened. They had absolutely no redeeming qualities and were allowed to run rampant despite even the orginization disliking them. It was just was kind of comical the lengths the author went to show their evilness. Especially when the one at fault was the old club owner/ML friend for selling them. He got off way to easy honestly.

I also wish there was a bit more about the other 2 teammates and the manager in the extras, they really are only there to serve the MC and ML. Even the medic on the other team gets more of a storyline in the finals.

All in all not a bad read, but probably not one I will re-read. I might look up the manwha though just to see the character designs.

Lastly if you love in depth eSports novels this isn't for you. The author doesn't spend a lot of time on the game parts. The game is explained well (don't think it's a real game) and there isn't too much game jargon. It did make me want to go play some of my fps though 🤣 <<less

Thanks to the author, the balance between romance and e-sport parts was settled very well and the story is fun and full of fluff.

Shi Lou is a tsundere. His essence is not bad, but his temperament is too much like a child, which made him sometimes a bit annoying, especially in the early chapters. 🤦‍♀️ Him being aggressive and always throwing tantrums is annoying af. It made me contemplated whether I should drop the novel. (Thankfully I still managed to finish it) never mind, his age is still considered a... more>> child anyway *sigh*. In the meantime, the male lead is a very rare responsible and sensible type of a man. Despite he's also considered a child at the time, he handled things well, which I highly appreciated.
Spoiler

now that I finished the novel, I realized that the angsts in the early parts are actually almost nonexistent, because all parties actually knew what had happened in the past in the first place, and it's just SL acting spoiled towards his captain (?). 🤦‍♀️ Truthfully, this is also really strange. If SL already knew the reason why ML have to leave, and things that ML had done for him in the first place, then why was he being so aggressive towards the ML when they first re-encountered? Have I missed anything? I am confused.

I really enjoy it!! Although there is some angst at the beginning and the gong obviously needs to work on winning back the shou, I have high hopes for this novel.

I just want to say "I want my own slag man aka Wishper, Yu Sui to spoil me". I came for E-sport, stayed for DOG FOOD and e-sport

Rating: 4.3/5 (for me).

Not my favorite e-sport novel, but it was fun. The 1st 30+ ch are mostly angsty and misunderstanding though not so unbearable but will definitely make your heart bleed. At first the author will make you hate ML, then make your heart bleed from his perspective and then later dump you into pit full of dog food.

MC is usually... more>> the type I don't like much, but in here I can't help but end up liking him too. He's cute.

I like the E-sport element a lot. The Game Fog..... I haven't played this game but it's bit different from your usually MOBA game. I enjoyed the E-sport Element and the Battle were entertaining even though a lot things were obvious and predictable too.

I also like that there were other OP player in other team too. Finally MC team not being full of OP player.

well, ML is OP........ too OP and it can't be helped since he's one of our main Character. Well, I like how the team didn't consist of all pro genius (in their position). Except for ML, who was no.1 medic player global and MC, no.1 striker in china, Other 2, didn't have that kind of status. They are good player but not the bestest or pro in their in-game job.

I like how there were better player in different team for different position. Like Angle sword from Saint being bestest Milk tank medic and NSN having the best sniper from last season or so and also having good solid strikers in their team.. I like how they let these two team also shine a bit atleast.

I wonder where the f*ck and what the f*ck other top player on the national or global server are doing? are they not playing professional?? I would have love to see strong good competitorsat least one from every different regions.

Well, I like how this one was a bit like Real guide towards the E-sport profession or community. Like what hardship one has to go through if they want to play game as professional player. It's not easy to earn money just by playing game.

Overall it was fun. I still don't get how MC and other can still pin point out sound from bushes in the game while taking, swearing and communicating with his team mates...... Maybe it's pro level ultra legend thing..... not an average gamer like me would know.

Thanks to the Translators for translating this novel ❤️. <<less
