I won't write about anything that really happens in the book that'd spoil it. It's my first time actually reading a Priest novel, and completed. This really surprised me. I wasn't super invested in the book. While I thought it was still a great novel, I wasn't completely "drawn" to the novel, so 4/5 is what I'm giving it.

There was enough action to move the plot along, but none of those are really detailed. The romance, hm... I think could be a bit more driven. Romance isn't in the forefront... more>> focus throughout the book, but the ending makes me think otherwise. So I do think there could be more on the romance considering that it was about Jingqi finding his own life in his seventh reincarnation. I would have really liked to learn more about Jingqi's development of thoughts throughout the novel. And the ML, honestly, I'm glad it ended the way it did. If there's one thing I'd say, it does come full circle, so at least that was satisfying. Maybe destiny/fate isn't what we think it might be, who knows?

And shoutout to translator! Amazing translation for such a novel. <<less

*might contain some slight spoilers that are revealed very early in the novel*
Jing Beiyuan has lived six lifetimes in many forms; a fox, a plant, and etc. In all those lives he suffered an unrequited love and/or gloomy fate with his proclaimed soulmate, the crown prince, He Lianyi. He is given one more life, his seventh reincarnation. This is the life where he is given the chance to live as who he originally was, not an obscure animal, but the prince of Nan Ning. After suffering for 6 lifetimes, he no longer has anymore affections for He Lianyi, but they are still close friends. In fact he wants to live a simple life not having to indulge in any politics. Things diverge from his original/first life and a hostage from Nanjiang is sent to the country as an offering. The emperor gives Beiyuan the duty to look after the mysterious hostage, Wu Xi. The two subsequently become neighbors and learn more about each other as the years pass.

Wow this novel is *chef's kiss*. I was looking for a novel to read and am so THANKFUL I was able to see this masterpiece. I was apprehensive on reading it because I'm not huge fan of books with a lot of political struggles and this book looked like it was stamped in red with "POLITICAL POLITICAL". I prefer to read stories that gleam past such occurrences because I honestly don't want to exert brain power to understand the intricate scheming between characters. However this book makes it interesting and doesn't make you want to sigh in boredom or confusion. Yes this book has its fair share of power scheming but it's not dump bucket of it, it's well balanced. The novel is written well enough for you to be intrigued and understand it. So if you were apprehensive about reading it because it seems boring with politics being weaved into the plot, do not fret it's not what it seems.

Enough about that- LETS TALK ABT THE CHARACTERS! I absolutely adore protagonists that have an indifferent but cunning nature and Beiyuan is a prime example of one. Beiyuan reminds me of Xie Lian from HOB in a sense that they are wise beyond their years. He sincerely wants to live a life of simplicity, only sleeping and eating. However, he doesn't want the country he's lived in to be brought down to flames with an unworthy/scheming future emperor. Therefore it is inevitable that he's dragged into the palace scheming especially since he is the crown prince's close friend. We get to read about all his faces from being a sleep addict, a ruthless killer, a scheming actor, and him just being him. I won't spoil much about the ml, but just know that you'll soon get a grasp of who he is while you continue reading. Their relationship imo seems pure, it's a slow burn where we get to see them start off friends and slowly progress. This description is so long because I really cannot rave enough about it. Lord Seventh has such a good plot that needs to be flaunted and admired. I mean it seriously. I even put it in 2nd place for fave novels right away because of how much it caught my attention. READ IT U WONT REGRET!!

Honestly the book is not for me. There are better political books out there for example QJJ, Joyful reunion Golden Stage. This story failed to deliver a kicking political intrigue or romance. The story is pretty bland, I usually don't drop novels but this is one of the very few novels I dropped.

Rating: 3.5/5- This is a good read. Nothing too fancy but not bad at all.

I won’t lie, I think I was expecting more as Priest’s works are always commended to the sky and above. I felt quite underwhelmed by this story. It’s supposed to have these romantically painful feelings backing up a resilient characters but the MCs feelings of those prior 6 lifetimes are described in a few words.

I liked the fight for the throne, though by no means is it the cream of the crop. I also have no... more>> major love for the characters. What I did like was how they were all bad thinking that their actions were for the greater good but being completely morally devoid.

I never even understood what the SoulHook Envoy hooked another hooking another soul meant?

Anyway, I wanted to read the prequel before starting faraway wanderers and I still enjoyed this book. I felt it was convoluted and could have been better with the setting it had of waiting for love for 6 lifetimes. It fell greatly short.

Still give it a shot, it’s not bad at all. <<less

Conceptually, this idea that the MC has lost interest in his soulmate is fascinating to me as a person who loves to see "Soulmate" used as a plot device. Unfortunately, the narrative did not sell me on the eventual main couple quite as much as it could have. In terms of non-romantic plot, this book was pretty good. The imperial court machinations were compelling, and given the stakes, the MC's motivations in getting the right brother on the throne make a lot of sense, despite the risk. The manipulating and... more>> power-plays could have made this a frankly solid book on its own.

I liked both the MC and ML! A lot!

Separately.

The MC is not quite as deep as he is interesting and fun to read. The ML's is a likewise interesting point of view to drop into, though I wish we could have gotten a little more of his non-romantic motivations in general. In the end though, the relationship itself just did not develop in a balanced way. The end result makes sense and is satisfying, but the way that they get there leans on some unhealthy tropes, and really just gives it all a bland sort of taste. It is not bad... Just not as well-executed as it could have been with a bit more care. <<less

I am honestly giving it 4 stars as it was kinda hard for me to exactly grasp the meaning clearly numerous times.

There were lots of poems and songs? Mentioned and on top that many hidden as well as very around the bush phrases and conversations. Maybe due to the ancient setting.

More so as I am still not that familiar with chinese literature and culture so it was a bit hard for me to understand at times what was going on esp with the wattpad translation but chichi's one was relatively... more>> more smoother and easier to absorb so my advice would be to read chichi one instead from the beginning.

Aside from this I am grateful to have read this series and will definitely read more ancient settings and familarise myself to enjoy the stories at its fullest. <<less

For starters, I'd like to remind everyone to read this novel before TYK, its sequel, which I didn't do and regret now (all of Zhou Zishu's backstory is here).

This said, my rating would be a bit more than 4, maybe 4+/4.5 according to personal taste.

    • I really loved reading this novel and in particular its main character, Jing Qi. What I would have liked to see is the author going a bit more in-depth with the political plot, but it was interesting nonetheless. It's not particularly hard to follow if you write a character sheet while reading, which I suggest you do (or use someone else's, for example on a translator' website there's a short one, or a more extensive one can be found on Twitter)
    • A few small bits may be somewhat unclear (I assume due to my own cultural and linguistic limitations), so keep this in mind if you're in a similar position. Still, this didn't affect my overall reading experience
    • All relevant characters are "grey" rather than black and white (ex. Helian Yi, Zhou Zishu, even Helian Zhao and Helian Qi have their moments)
    • Differently from other reviewers, I think the ML isn't perfect, so in a way the CP is well balanced (although the ML's faults concern his approach to relationships, while the MC's faults concern his immoral actions for the 'greater good'). Also, the MC is really devoted to the ML by the end of the book and he's shown to be over his past love from the beginning of his 7th reincarnation: the main conflict is him 'wanting' to be alone, rather than him wanting another person, for a good many years
    • The ML takes little to no part in the plot, he's pretty much there only for the relationship; if you don't like the MC and/or the plot it's going to be tough to read the whole thing (same thing if you want to read plenty of s*x scenes and the likes: look for something else)
    • The CP ending doesn't leave you craving for more, meaning it's wrapped up nicely with no overwhelming loose ends or lingering questions
      Spoiler

except for the fact Jing Qi never tells Wu Xi about his past lives, it seems, but it doesn't particularly bother me

      [collapse]
... and if you're wondering about Zhou Zishu there's TYK for that

I have such mixed feelings about this novel. It would be a 1/5 based on the first 70 chapters, but the last bits come full circle with the narrative and help to bump it up to a 2/5 barely for me.

I usually like this kind of novel but this just didn't sit well with me, for a few different reasons:

A) none of the characters are very "likeable". They're all bad people that do bad things for bad reasons. The MC is probably my least favorite, because while the other characters... more>> readily admit they're bad, MC spends the first 2/3rds of the novel going on and on about "woe is me, I'm so heartbroken, I've been so betrayed when MY conscience is clear."
Spoiler

As the story goes on, we see just what lows he's willing to sink to (def not a clear conscience in any way), and even when he starts to feel guilty and he admits it, he still comes off as being extremely haughty about it, "I had no better choice!" etc. going as far as to lecture the only morally good person in the novel about how they're worse than he is for "not being willing to get his hands dirty."

[collapse]

B) there's a lot of inconsistencies and mistakes. I kept wondering if I was missing key details but a quick drop down to the comment section showed everyone was as confused as I was, so I guess author just leaves important events/details out. there's also a crapton of poetry references throughout this novel, which I would not mind BUT they are often out of context or meaningless, so it comes off as sounding very pretentious.

C) main couple/main lead: he... feels out of place. and I think that is supposed to be on purpose considering
Spoiler

his origins. He was not present in the original timeline, and it shows. he LITERALLY doesn't "belong" in the story. He's a black-bellied "little toxin" of a Gary Stu character that never really grows up or matures even by time the extras roll around.

[collapse]
Also, the relationship development of the main couple in this story can be summed up as:

Spoiler

ML: please marry me

MC: no

ML: please marry me

MC: no

ML: please please please marry me???

MC: I guess I have no better options

[collapse]

Truly romantic, I might have shed a tear laughing.

And, finally: the point. What was the point of all this. The story is all about karmic retribution. You do bad things, you have bad things coming to you.
Spoiler

The main character goes back to his first life and in an effort to dig out a life free from suffering for himself ends up causing the suffering of so many others. And yet he and ML are basically the only ones who get out of this story with a happy ending.

[collapse]
How is that karma?

I think I'll finish off by quoting the translator, Chichi, who did an amazing job, and whose comments made this novel bearable for me:

"Lord Seventh is, overall, a rather melancholic work. Suicidally valorous people, missed opportunities, wasted time and effort, obsession, mistakes that can't be fixed, cruel deaths in the name of the greater good... if it weren't for the main couple, there would be little true happiness here."

I personally don't believe the MC deserved the "true happiness" he got, but I guess I'm just old and bitter. <<less

This is Priest's third novel for me (after Sha Po Lang and Through The Strait Gates/Guomen) and despite me overall enjoying it, I still can't help but not be fond of it. I don't hate the book and it was a well-written thing, but some things just made me feel like it was quite bittersweet and not exactly the sort of happy ending I expected.
When I first read the synopsis, I was really intrigued and I actually thought the book was about the MC's suffering in the six lifetimes and how he finally gets happiness with his lover in the last life. But surprise!
Spoiler

Apparently the love of his six lifetimes (who ends up killing him in ALL six lifetimes) is not the ML! The ML is in fact, the one who mistakenly turned his love life into one-sided love life (I think it was mentioned clearly that Wu Xi was the Soulhook Envoy). I got more emotional after reading the Bai Wuchang extra:

[collapse]
In his final moment, he saw himself reflected in the man's eyes at last. His face did not smile, but his heart did — you looked at me, so I have no regrets.
Spoiler

In the seventh lifetime, the MC finally gets his chance to have a happy life but alas! how could he, when the country was in turmoil? He couldn't get peace and quiet and I truly pity him for that. He finally, finally gets a chance at true love but he HAD to send the guy away to protect him since the capital was being attacked and he couldn't keep his sweetheart there to get killed, could he? But then how could the ML bear to leave his future husband in such a dangerous place too? So he gets troops, gallops valiantly across the thousand li and saves his fragile Prince to bring him back home. Happy right? And I was happy too, until this part:
If only... if only, in the previous life, you weren't the Rongjia Emperor, and I wasn't Prince Nan'ning.

[collapse]

Spoiler

I know, I know, he clearly said in the previous life, but to get this sort of sentiment when your ex gives you a hug makes me feel icky. There was a review that mentioned something about Jing Qi's feelings toward Wu Xi being lukewarm (compared to the Crown Prince towards whom his feelings were intense) and I do agree. It wasn't like Jing Qi didn't love Wu Xi or something, but after reading about what he did for the idiot Helian Yi, I couldn't help feeling exceptionally bitter, because it sometimes felt like Wu Xi did all the craving and pining for (yes Jing Qi too suffered for the Crown Prince but its not the same relationship), and worked hard to gain Jing Qi's heart and Jing Qi ultimately gave up on trying to resist him and thus, they ended up together.

[collapse]
I know that my thoughts are probably biased and wrong in many ways, and they will probably change within some time when I look back at this book, but at the moment, I am unable to truly appreciate this work to its fullest.
One thing that made me feel complicated emotions was
Spoiler

the killing of Sir Jiang's family. The man himself was wrong, yes, but I felt the same way poor old Liang Jiuxiao felt, realizing that the one who killed them all was in fact Zhou Zishu and the Crown Prince's team, not the b*tching Second Scion. That moment truly made me want to kill all the characters, not sparing anyone. Yes, the ways of the world are that way, but are they truly? Is the road paved with the bodies of innocent people the one to success?
Another thing that I hated to the utmost was the brutal action of having the young boy Zhang Tingyu r*ped and killed just so that the Second Scion would lose his favor with the emperor. I would have probably been less angry if the boy was also a rapist or had killed people unnecessarily or any sort of wrong deed but as far as I remember, he was just a young boy who had to suffer for his father's deeds.
With a father like that, Littlest Master Zhang dying isn't an injustice.
So, its okay to kill a young child for something his parents did? And it would have been better if he was only killed, but no, they had to give him a drug to make him mute and then throw him to the lair of the tiger that was Helian Qi, knowing that the boy will be r*ped, tortured, beaten and will not be able to live anymore? This is what justice is?
I do understand their reasoning somewhat, but Zhou Zishu made me kind of angry and I felt an immense sort of satisfaction after reading that he truly became dead knowing he couldn't save his lil shidi.
"Many acts of injustice will bring ruin to oneself... Zishu, are you not afraid of meeting with retribution?"
I feel like not being able to prevent Jiuxiao from being killed and suffering for his actions is exactly the retribution he deserved.
Yes, yes, I'm vile and a hypocrite but reading that made me feel like, oh, its karma.

[collapse]
All in all, I'd say it was a good enough story, but not one of my favorites.

There appeared to be mix reviews for this novel but I'm glad to take a chance on it and had a great ride throughout reading it. I'm writing as someone who has short attention span and I completed this novel within 5 days lol. I'd say if you are a BL reader looking for romance then this piece of work won't be your cup of tea. Also if you don't enjoy political stuff mixing with slow pace life philosophical ponderings what nots.

For me this novel was enriching and made me... more>> reflected a lot on how the characters developed and in relations to one another as the story unravel. As per the title this novel is all about Jing Qi/Lord Seventh and how he lived his 7th life karmic entangled with Helian Yi (Crown Prince) and all the things that happened. The novel made me to ponder how one chooses to live their lives VS or maybe all just are predestined no matter how you live it.

Additionally what I had enjoyed in this novel definitely are the phrases and beautiful illustrations in wordings. I don't know enough Chinese to read in Chinese totally so I read the ENG translation (so glad I made the decision to pay for the ebook by chichilations; awesome work!) and so blown away by Priest's way of storytelling and words used (cause while reading I'd then subconsciously translate back to Chinese sometimes and comprehend the ENG translation better with Chinese culture).

I read this after completed Faraway Wanderers and this is my 3rd Priest's work. Happy reader. Faraway Wanderers is an interesting and fixating read but if I'm to choose QiYe is more captivating for me. I didn't even wrote this much for FW review lol

edit to remark I didn't realise I accidentally rated 4. Shoulda been 5 but I couldn't amend anymore OTL <<less

i actually like the politic conflicts and the characters but I think the story could be more than this, a lot of detail especially the earlier chapters are not very much being explain for its purposes in the story, and I felt the love between MC and ML are somehow forced and rushed. Now I kinda know why the sequel of this novel are the one that being adapted to drama, cause if qiye its gonna be boring for sure hahaha. But despite all of that I still enjoy reading... more>> this. <<less

This is my least favorite Priest novel. It started off really well.

The characters are well written and the plot is interesting!

The story has a melancholic vibe to it that continues till the end but it is not too heavy to put you off.

Tbh there is nothing wrong with the story. The translation is perfect and so is the plot and the character writing. What put me off was the political scheming and all the killing and mu*der by MC and his posse of friends, I completely understand this matches with... more>> what actually happened in history but I kinda found it too heavy for my taste. I know this is not even too much as compared to other novels and isnt really considered wrong given the time when the story is based on but how all of them react to what they do just for political gain doesn't sit right with me.

This is obviously not a black and white fanatsy novel with the villain being absolutely evil and good guys being absolute pure white lotus. The charcters are all very human and in shades of grey as real humans are.

But inspite of all this, for the lack of better word, I honestly didnot vibe with characters XD

I kinda liked MC at the start but not towards the end.

Really loved this and I have a low attention span! Colourful, clever, flowing. It's been a long time since I've read a book this quickly.

The main plot involves lots of cunning schemes by protagonist Jing Qi and co. To disenfranchise the two eldest princes. These schemes are interesting, clever and satisfying. Interspersed is the romantic subplot between Jing Qi and the ML, which if I'm honest is the reason I started reading Lord Seventh in the first place.

The romantic subplot is great. The two characters are wonderful and their shifting... more>> dynamic is fun and tugs at the heart strings.

Bits of the plot in terms of things the protagonist and friend get up to can be quite dark and morally dubious or straight up wrong but it's very self aware and the overall tone of the novel is fairly light (lighter than Sha Po Lang (same author), definitely) so it's not too hard to read.

The court scenes are entertaining, the connections between the many court officials are relatively easy to keep on top of haha and the battle strategy and military movements described in later chapters are concise (MUCH less of it than in Sha Po Lang (same author) too).

Great read.

P.s. There's a happy ending <<less

As always, I always fell in love with Priest Novel.

The story was so good and heartbreaking. I really love the plot and how well written it was (especially the conspiracy part) but at the same time it was very confusing too. Sometimes I have to re-read the chapters to fully understand what's going on.

From the start I wished MC to never end up with HYL and I am happy he doesn't end up with him. I don't feel an ounce of sadness for him..... sorry ... more>>
Spoiler

Not a spoiler actually I mean I really hate it if ML are the Prince.... especially if they are crown one just like HYL coz that mean he'll have to marry other people and not our MC and even if he end up being in relationship with MC, which will be then count as affair because he still have to get married and produce heir as a Crown prince or Emperor and I f*cking hate that. It's cheating for me. And if he really want to be with MC and not take anyone else then he have to give up his position as crown prince and that he can't do be it for whatever reason. You see they were not bound to be fated from the start. They would have end up hurting each other. If they were really fated then how can a person change and even killed the one they love (knowing that the other person too like him too) and not trying to understand them..

[collapse]
. I am happy MC ends up with ML. He won't atleast betray him or kill him. I really like the slow romance of MC and ML but the ending, it's not enough. I wished we had some more of MC and ML Moments. Them spoiling each other. Atleast a bit more of it.

I feel so sorry for Liang guy.
Spoiler

He.... How can he die but it also understandable. He's better of death so he can be finally at peace. I hope he can move forward and meet Jiang family without any guilt.... if possible

[collapse]

And also Ping Ah, he's the best boy. I hope he had happy life afterwards.

Well, This novel had lot many things I wanted to know like~
Spoiler
    • How and why the death of that girl disturbed the fate between MC and HYL. They never explained it. Why? It would have been great if they have explain it how exactly her death end up affecting their fate. I guess we will never know. Well, I think even if ML didn't end up making that mistake, MC and HYL relationship would still have some trouble and difficulty. From what I see, HYL and MC were not really fated to be with each other and them being fated was a mistake.
    • Was MC and HYL really blood brother ? I still am not sure. If he really was then why was Emperor happy with MC ending his bloodline? As a father he should have let his bloodline continue, even if no one knows about it..... right? I just think it was all the 1st Prince work to destroy MC and HYL friendship or else things Like them who were actually mean to be fated one for 7 lives
      wouldn't make sense.
    • And some other things like~
I know HYL was aware of MC feeling for him and his own so were they in relationship then, in 1st life?
    • If they were then they probably did it too... right?
    • If they weren't in relationship then does that mean our MC with our ML was inexperienced..... right? But why does he talk like he was experienced one
    • And if our MC was really inexperienced then does that mean our ML took our MC v**ginity. Well, not that it matter to me but there's been a lot of comments with MC not being virg*n and all.
    • Well, In this life ML was his first for sure.

What can I say that other reviewers haven't?

I can only say that this novel is cathartic especially for readers who have gone through the pain of moving on from one-sided doting and love. Despite it not being as fluffy and sweet as other danmeis, I 100% also consider it as a healing novel.

The author takes you from MC's wholehearted devotion to second ML, to the deadening of his blind love, to the detangling of messy emotions while moving on, and finally to the rekindling of life and desire in his... more>> heart when he meets ML. The ML's growth is also quite inspiring, especially how he has remained steadfast to his principles despite being clever enough to participate in the intrigues.

Overall, if you've gone through similar emotions, this novel will touch you in painful places but will also help you find release and begin to heal buried injuries. <<less

I've just finished this novel and I have to say that I really enjoyed it. Since the begining it gives out a sort of melancholic and nostalgic feeling and that same feeling still lingers up till the end of the book.
There are many times were everything is just hopeless and as a reader you can feel the same distress, regret and pain the characters experiment. There are many painful situations which will make your heart hurt and your eyes wet, there are betrayals, mistakes, regrets, 'ifs', deads, war, parting, etc.
The characters are excellent, and you can see their growth and suffering through the book. We have Jing Qi, for example, who always seems to have that sort of 'noble yet frivoulous' bearing, but at the same time is tormented by his actions, he believes himself to be 'filthy' and just hides everything in his heart, he is devoted and patient, but he's algo ingenious and smart.
Then we have Wu Xi, who is blunt and direct, he never goes in a roundabout way when talking, acting or even expresing his feeling, he has a great character growth wich can be seen through the book, but can be apreciated at its slendor in the last chapers.
We also have great characters such as Helian Yi, Liang Jiuxiao, Zhou Zishu, Ping An, etc. They all contribute to form the well developed plot wich is presented to us in Lord Seventh.
The book is rather tragic, but at the same time it also has little blissful moments.
As for the main couple, we can see how their relationships devolpes and evolves through the chapters, little by little they start to realize their feeling, and when they get together it is not abrupt at all, their romance is slow but sweet, or maybe we should call ir sour-sweet since there were also many bitter moments.
In short, Lord Seventh is a great book worth reading, if you like ancient setting, power struggle, a little bit of tragedy, etc. You should really read this book.

I loved this story. It is more political heavy, but it's sprinkled in with a good amount of interactions between the characters. The story takes place over 7+ years and the relationships that change and grow. MC DEFINETLY did not deserve that first life ending but, we wouldn't have the ML if MC didn't have that ending. Ex-ML is sweet but so cold hearted and calculating, at some point you feel for him, then at some point you fear him. Like actually fear him. If for some reason I isekai/transmigrate... more>> into this novel, I'm avoiding these people, but especially the Ex-ML.... seriously, if you value life, keep him at arms distance.

The relationship seems a bit out of nowhere at first then you see how much the ML cares for MC and while you are berating him, you kind of hope that while MC does berate him for us, you... kind of.... route for them. When they do actually get together it's so cute and bittersweet cause you kind of think about what's coming next but it still kills you when you read it. Thank goodness for the extra or I'd be wallowing in self pity still.

Overall, the book does use a lot of literature devices and feels like you're reading a poetry at times. There are times, where they give you bits and pieces on a silver platter but don't out right say what it all means and says. I'm still confused about something and I probably won't ever find the answer to it unless I ask, but, spoilers. So no.

I do suggest giving it a read, it's not the greatest piece of literature ever written, but it's a pretty good one. You get love, you get action, you get palace intrigue (aka. crazies), and you get cutie side characters that you just Will PROtect WITh YOUR LIFE!!

4/5 because of the constant prose, but it's a 5/5, no questions. <<less

A beautifully written melancholic novel. It depicts the tragic reality of war and the unconscientious competition for the throne.

What I really love about Priest's books is the slow development of the main leads' relationship. It makes me absorb and appreciate the romance more.

I really enjoyed reading this novel ! The historical context and political intrigues are very well rendered, and the author managed to created characters with a lot of depth in their personalities. Also, the way that Jing Qi (our MC) and Wu Xi (his love interest) interact is quite complex and very interesting to follow. I really liked the fact that at the beginning of the novel, Jing Qi is actually fed up with everything to do with love. It is quite original for a romance to start this way,... more>> and I really enjoyed how the character evolved from there.

The translation was good, sometimes a bit difficult to follow, but I think it is because the original work is full of references to Chinese litterature / folklore.

There is however two things that made me frown while reading:

(1) the representation of women in the novel is not very good. At some point, you could even wonder if there is any women at all in this world.

(2) The treatment of how gay relationships are seen in the society of the novel is a bit weird. In one hand, you have very strong and negative reaction when our MC says that he wants to marry a man, saying that it is a taboo, etc.. But this reaction comes from only one character. The attendants and friends of our MC don't seem to have a reaction at all, as if being gay was in fact not a taboo in this society, but just something a bit unusual. I think it would have been nice to elaborate a bit more on this aspect. <<less
