I Can Do It

For a certain LoL competition, a certain online streamer famous for pissing people off was currently explaining and broadcasting it at the same time.

Streamer: This support, so tr*sh.

Streamer: If that jungler was my teammate, I would already be idling at the fountain and playing piano for him by now.

Streamer: I recommend that this player go back and properly practice how to last hit.

Audience: What bullshit! If you’re any better, then you do it!

Streamer: I, your dad, really can do it.

Audience: Okokok. If you can do it then I’ll chop off my head so you can kick it.

A few months later, the LPL’s veteran pro team TTC announced a new mid laner. A boy with flashy blue hair appeared in front of the audience and played Zed to utter perfection, killing everyone he saw, causing all the female fans to begin toeing the line of infidelity.

During the MVP interview after the match, everyone held their breath and eagerly watched this newcomer.

Only to see the boy accept the microphone, smile and ask, “That water friend with the StarTV user ID ‘Suburb King 101,’ my team’s address is on the official website, when will you be mailing your head over?”

After a certain regular season match finished, the staff member went backstage to urge the team members to go onstage and conduct their interviews, only to see TTC’s new mid laner and jungler standing in the corner.

TTC’s number one ace · jungler daddy Road pressed their team’s new mid laner Soft against the wall. He lowered his eyes and asked slowly, “In the interview later, do you know what to do?”

That quick-tempered mid laner, who had solidified his image as a troll in the audience’s eyes the very first time he went on stage, was currently blushing completely red. “I know. I won’t curse at anyone… I definitely won’t curse at anyone.”

This is a very cute novel. It is not drama focused so it's easy and light hearted to read, kind of like a slice of life. So, I totally recommend it! |ω・) و ̑̑༉ The game they play on is League of Legends. It was a really good idea since the story didn't need to really focus on explaining the champions, and even for someone like me who doesnn't play it, I didn't have any troube inderstanding it. Using a real game also made it feel more realistic. *⸜ (•ᴗ•)... more>> ⸝* Jiang Rong is always toxic and pissed, which really contrasts with his short and delicate figure. Like imagine a small kindergartener being triggered by almost anything LOL. ꉂꉂ◟ (˃᷄ꇴ˂᷅ ૂ๑) ༡л̵ʱªʱª✧ He is really cute and his personality is very strrong and dynamic. However, I will say that, he seemed more OP while he streamed than later on, since Lu BoYuan basically carried every single match they won. He never really plays with a strategy so yeah..I wish the author could let him shine more. ATM he really does seem kinda useless, so please carry more rongrong gege~ (ʃƪ ˘ ³˘)

Also, do I need to mention about how LBY just keeps showing up at the worst times (for JR) ! XD Every single time ISTG. Also, it's so cute whenever Jian Rong wants to swear, he always stops and behaves so obediently if LBY is next to him. (*˘︶˘*).。.:*♡ LBY gives me mix hearted feelings. He's cold yet affectionate, always spoiling JR-BUT ! ! The books always describes how fit and much broader than JR but that does not really match with the novel cover ! Anyways, it's really nice how he never denies liking JR. Their fans ship them too lmao. I remember one time an anti-fan was shaming JR for being shipped with LBY, and none of his fans defended him, but instead brought more evidence for the CP out. ଘ (੭ˊ꒳ˋ) ੭✧ Yeah, you know what, I think Jian Rou's fans are the true MVP (๑•̀ㅂ•́) و✧ <<less

As you can probably tell from the other reviews, it's quite. A cute read, though it might be a bit difficult for people who don't play LoL.

I don't play it, though I do play other MOBA games similar to it, and I had a confusing time understanding the champions, since I only really know a few like Teemo, (I only know the names in Chinese), but I'm not familiar at all with their skills or whatever you call them in English. So this might be more suitable for players... more>> of LoL to read.

The romance is quite cute, the whole thing is light. Despite not understanding some parts of it, it's still overall very enjoyable, so I think you'd enjoy it just as long as you know the basic rules of LoL.

I'd recommend this to honestly just anyone who'd enjoy a good e-sport romance. Sorry for the bad English and have a nice day. <<less

A way to describing this novel: one where you don't have to skip chapters because you don't understand half of it, light, fluffy and Comedic. You take it as it appears with no heavy Subplot.

I usually hate when there's a barrage in a novel, so far none has entertained me like the one in this. Usually they would intrude too much in the lives of the characters or what is written feels like it was included for word count, but this; my God I would look forward to their tr*sh... more>> talking. It was soo entertaining

Also, Second hand embarrassment, many authors usually use this as Comedy. I've read too many cringey ones that I would skip novels dealing with second hand embarrassment. However, to this one, chef kiss. I even ended spitting out food laughing at this.

E-sports isn't my plate as I don't understand what the heck is going on 99% of the time. But who cares in this one, I was looking forward everytime there was a match because this meant tr*sh talking 😂

The characters, there wasn't any depth in their past and I loved that soo much. Their personal lives didn't intrude that much with the novel. There was no heavy plot where it would make a dramatic impact on the novel. Even LBY's family, they were so cool. The author made them go with the flow of the novel <<less

Sweet. The protagonist and ML really care for each other. There was no drama (when Tang Qin appeared, I thought there would be), no misunderstandings, they owned up to their feelings.

As I don't play games, I don't really know about the gaming parts, but got the impression that it was pretty thrilling.

Really really cute couple

rating rounded up bc of lby

icdi reads very much like a fanfic: no worldbuilding is needed because the readers are already familiar with the setting, there's focus on a niche the author is very knowledgeable about (lol) and the overall vibe of the work is just very indulgent.

i have some nitpicks about this novel, but for the most part I really did end up enjoying it. this is one of those works that really isn't meant to be consumed overly critically: what you see is what you get, and that... more>> is a light, fluffy novel about characters playing their favorite game and the people they meet in the process of it. as such, i'd say the plot is 50% gaming, 30% main cp's budding relationship and 20% shenanigans with netizens and other gamers. if you are a fan of gaming and you like the portrayal of fandom in fiction, you're pretty much bound to like icdi.

my two main complaints about this novel are actually about the MC and the aforementioned fandom, and in both these cases I feel like it's more of a me issue than something that needed to be fixed in by the author. the mc, jian rong (alias soft) is 17-18 throughout the novel and his age... really shows at times. he's a talented gamer and streamer known for his short temper and potty mouth, and the arguments he gets into and the mishaps that happen to him online were sometimes so childish that it made me feel old and I'm not even that much older than him. I found the ml to be a more enjoyable character actually, so much that I was just anxiously waiting for him to fuсk up and make me dislike him—turns out, lu boyuan really is just a Decent dude! what a guy! while his interactions with jian rong are always super sweet, he can be a tease and it was so funny to me when he'd act colder and whip out his dry humor around everyone else. I'm honestly rooting for the cp to stay together for a long time only because if I was jian rong I wouldn't know how to ever get over a guy like this..

my love for lby aside, the other thing that irked me (bc it gave me war flashbacks to my kpop days) is the way the fans treat the celebrities here which is, unfortunately, completely realistic. since the career of a streamer is directly dependent on their audience, the fans feel really entitled, and when continuously encouraged, they begin to think that the people on the screen owe them their entire lives. again, it's not icdi's fault, but being repeatedly reminded of this toxic fandom mindset was super annoying to me (almost as much as opening a new window every few minutes to google lol champions). the mc's audience in here is portrayed showing a good dose of tough love, all with a comedic tone, and though it was mostly entertaining, at times I just wanted to yell at them (and the chronically online mc) to go out and touch some grass.

despite it all, I did still like icdi. I approached it like I would a one-season sports anime (but like, sk8 rather than yoi) ; that is, expecting a lot of people to be extremely passionate about something that I know nothing about but will push through because the other aspects of it are appealing. the characters here are all very fun and you can definitely find yourself a reoccurring side-character to hype up and call underrated. the romance was adorable and the fact that it was genuinely just good and unproblematic made me wanna take a step back from annoying wuxia men (this lasted a whole second until I remembered that unfortunately, I like their brand of annoying). and finally.. if I never hear of league of legends again, it will be too. fuсking. soon. <<less

Truly deserving of all these high ratings.

This novel made me want to play LOL too.

Since I know nothing about esports or gaming I thought I'd find this boring but oh how wrong I was. The author blended esports with romance and comedy so well. And translators did an amazing job at translating.

... more>> The relationship between MC and his dad fans was so adorable and funny. They flamed him more than his antis to the point that even the antis were confused.

Jiang Rong (mc) and Lu Boyuan (ml) 's relationship made me so soft. God I love them so much. MC who tr*sh talks to everyone is only soft to ml. It was funny to see him trying to act like a kind and decent person infront of ml. Although they got official pretty late the sweetness was there since the beginning, so we wont be starving of dog food.

Side characters were amazing too. And soft's dad fans were the best part of this novel. I genuinely had tears in my eyes after laughing too much reading their comments. They're the kind of people who'd bully you but would not let anybody else bully you because they're the only ones who are allowed too.

Overall one of the best esports story out there.

Highly recommend this story. <<less

I can't tell you enough, this is amazing. ONE OF THE BEST NOVELS IVE EVER READ! No honestly, it's outstanding in every level, slow yet understandable pace of romance, good plot line, very 3D characters, love team! Everyone is just amazing! I love everyone in the group even the coach! I'm telling you, you have to read this!

Although, it doesn't get to the deep deepppp description of the pa pa pa, it's detailed enough to understand what's going on. I love the second couple! 😭 Just everything about it is great.... more>> It's got humour, it's got romance, it's got cute shou who's also got a venomous tongue, well tbh id called honest. He's very honest and it can come off as rude. But all in all, it's a must read. <<less

This is my first review I've written. The reason is because this is a five star novel yet I feel very conflicted.

I plan to complete the novel because the story is just so amazing. Jian Rong becomes your own son, who you see grow up. Furthermore, I loved the interaction between Jian Rong and Lu Boyuan. It was so natural and realistic (depending on your view). Although it may be a slow burn, in that it doesn't happen instantaneously, their relationship progressed pretty quickly without any trouble. There was no... more>> unnecessary drama or misunderstanding. I mean there were a few misunderstandings, but they were fun! There was also a good balance between the character's relationship and gaming, as well as fan reactions. Overall, would recommend, five out five. Good characters, good relationship progress, and good balance.

I was conflicted because of the same reasons as the other reviewers. First, I rated this five out of five because it was good and it wasn't racist. It isn't racist, but is there a questionable feel of racist-ish things? Yes. It's just questionable and makes you uncomfortable. I definitely don't think the author did this on purpose either. They were probably just trying to be nationalist, which most novels do too.

So, what was questionable.

  • First,
    Spoiler

in many chapters, Jian Rong and other characters say that they don't speak "simnida, " which is in other words the Korean language. This doesn't really strike as racist, except for the fact that this is used as an insult/in a negative way. If instead of "simnida" it was "ching chong, " it would sound very racist. It also has the same feel as asking why an immigrant can't speak english. It just doesn't feel right.

    [collapse]
  • Second,
    Spoiler

there was that whole arc of TTC v. HT. It was just a vague feeling throughout. It wasn't really racist or xenophobic per say, but it's just the way they characterized a whole country in somewhat of a negative light, such as their committee, resources, and netizens.

    [collapse]
I just don't think those aspects were necessary. They didn't have to attach a character/team to a whole country. It's not as dramatic as I and others are describing it, but the feeling of that is there.

**Obviously, though, I loved this novel regardless of these questionable aspects. Just keep in mind not to attack another country's language and culture. Also, people are beautiful even if they're fat, have pimples, have small eyes, and are not dark! As long as you know this, reading this will just be a great story of a great relationship. Highly recommend!**

(Btw not dissing China only. I mean Korea usually always has Japan as the bad guy. Most Asian novels stereotypes America. That doesn't detract from this, though.) <<less

My second favorite novel, I've read fives times completely at least.

Soft is absolutely amazing, his sharp tongue is funny, he's not someone that gets embarrassed or flustered, he really has a strong mentality. Road is also really badass, unashamed and so calm. I love them both so much, they really are good together. Also, the dads fans are the best. Can't leave them out.

This is definitively a read that is worth it. The story progression is good, it's funny and their love is very healthy, without s*upid or unnecessary misunderstanding,... more>> no third parties, etc. No abuse from the MC or ML toward the others they're good for each other, which you gotta appreciate.

And I knew LOL already so I really got into every matches, it was so fun to read! <<less

Honestly, I had high expectations for this story, after all this story maintained a rating of 4.9 and 4.8 for quite a long time in novel update [In fact this story survived with that rating long before Mist ended (Mist was another story with high rating in novel update) ] before eventually dropped to a rating of 4.7...

But after I finished reading the whole story, I was really disappointed.

I mean it's not like I've never read an E-Sport/slice of life novel before... But this story really disappointed because they have... more>> high rating which 4, 9 - 4, 7 when the story itself doesn't carry anything in it.

Spoiler

Like, there are many things in the story that can be used as discussions for plot conflicts, such as injuries to E-Sport players, ML with his parents when he joining E-Sport, ML mother who was addicted to cigarettes, the accident that make MC parents died, MC grandfather who was sick, and many more.

[collapse]
But none of these things are discussed in depth and clearly in the story... all these topics were only discussed a little before finally being thrown behind.

Last, about the Xenophobia... Does this story really contain Xenophobia??? The answer is yes and no... I mean people who really playing LOL, will definitely realize the fact that Koreans player have a little bit anti habit + feel superior in the game was true, but of course it's not as bad as the story describes.

And the fact is not only in E-Sports, Korea is one of the countries in Asia whose public figures (artists, singers, idols) usually target foreign markets of other countries such as China and Japan for their active promotions, which sometimes causes love and hate reactions from their Korean fans, which almost same like the reaction that this story describes or maybe even worst... <<less

I absolutely loved this novel. I finished it in 2 days. I usually don't read esports novels but this one just drew me in. If you like semi OP protagonist, this ones for you.
Spoiler

Although the MC does lose a couple of times, most of the time they are OP without being overly OP like a Gary Stue.

[collapse]

The interactions between the MC and the ML are so cute. MC is kind of hot tempered and argumentative but when it comes to the ML he's so soft and shy.

The MC's interactions with his fanbase is absolutely hilarious. Legit, I laughed so many times reading this, at least once every chapter.

There's no angst between the main CP or misunderstandings.

I almost didn't read the novel because I read some reviews that called it xenophobic, but I decided to give it a try anyways, and they were absolutely wrong. There's just the typical my county is better than yours arguments. And while I admit there is an as*hole Korean team the MC clarifies that only this team is extremely mean and that all the other Korean teams are cool.

A solid 4 out of 5.

PROS:

The couple’s interactions is what kept me reading till the end. Just be warned it is a slow burn... and I really mean a slow burn. I also appreciate that the side characters are not two dimensional. Xia Bai for example was hilarious and probably my favorite character overall aside from the main CP. He offer quit a bit of comedy relief.

The ML was a bit boring at first, you really don’t get much from him other than the occasional chuckles for like the first... more>> 50 chapters... but thankfully he does get better! It’s quit endeavoring how he spoils the MC rotten.

The MC is a huge fan of ML. Although he is very feisty, he becomes meek the moment he is in front of ML. This tend to put him in embarrassing situations where he dig his own grave.

CONS:

Lack of strong opponents. The MC seem to be able to overcome his competitor relatively easily... even despite being his first year competing professionally.

The biggest disappointment was the final arc where the team face off the Korean team in the finals. Their opponent (aka, name Master) was hype up to be this strong player where even MC lost to him before, so I was expecting this ‘Master’ to at-least put up a good fight. But nope, he also turn out to be just a petty mediocre nobody that is just salty because he lost to ML previously.

Also, in the final arc, you can tell very well that the Arthur has a bias towards his own home country. Although it is normal for teams from different countries to have some hostility towards each other, the authors way of approaching this was just not very tasteful... The author clearly painted the Chinese team to be the good guys and the Korean team to be pure evil. In reality, it is not so black and white.. <<less

I really liked this one to start out and was expecting growth out of the MC and a great relationship, sadly I was disappointed. Add in the xenophobic undertones and I would say this is the authors worst one that I've read. On a positive note, there is actually a girl gamer who is good at gaming and is in the pro scene.

The last half of the book is so focused on LoL that I was bored and skipped a lot. I am a gamer but not LoL and not... more>> really an esport fan, so to have most of the last half was meh (I do get how some would appreciate it though) their relationship could probably be condensed into 15 chapters.

I also agree with another review, the MC rebellious character was kind of cute to begin with but got annoying as he didn't try to improve himself at all. Really not sure what the ML fell in love with either, just 1 minute he wants to take care of a jr and the next he is in love
Spoiler

I honestly thought it was more of love at first sight and was surprised when ML admits it wasn't until they shared a bed that he realized.

[collapse]

The translators and editors did a good job explaining game elements so its very LoL noob friendly, the author was even honest when they couldn't find confirmation if something could be done in competitions and put it as notes at the end of certain chapters, kudos to that.

My biggest complaint with the novel though is the xenophobia towards Korea. I know that China and SK have a strained relationship but this type of story just continues the viscous cycle. <<less

It was nice for a light read.

The E-sports part was not really that intense or competitive. They didn't make it too detailed, just right.

And the romance came really late. It only happened near at the end.

They didn't get into the background of each characters that much.

Read if you want a really light novel.

First few chapters amazed me, what an uncouth mouth MC have, seems to be a strong one too. Then ML came into the picture and MC is so meek around him I find it a pity, his character would be more interesting if he showed more of his willfulness towards ML. Then again, who am I to say this I'm just a reader hahah anyhows.

ML gives me uncomfortable vibes. Their overall romance did. Maybe because their romance is abrupt and that MC is young. Before ML even realized his feelings... more>> for MC, he was leading him on. Very eh to read. It's like reading a BG novel with a naive white lotus as MC and your usual cold overall powerful ML.

First half to mid half made me uhhh to the romance. Hte only thing that kept em going was the fans' comments. I did like it towards the end though. But that was it. <<less

Soft and Road, laozi wishes you an eternity of happiness together!

Overall, a nice read.

More in details:

... more>> Romantic plot 5/5

Just great, very fluffy and cracky. You want angst? Sorry, go somewhere else.

Characterization 2/5

The author hints at some very interesting characterization elements that, if she had expanded on them in the novel, would have so so sO good imo. Unfortunately the author doesn't capitalize on all these interesting elements and some fall flat, are underdeveloped, or are relegated to the extras. The characters' background suffers greatly from the same problem, if not even more so. And characterization and character background is what gets me through a novel when the plot is thin, like in this one. It's such a pity, cause the hints the author drops at the beginning are pretty intriguing. Getting my hopes up like that? Not cool.

Overall plot 2/5

Some potential sub-plot are hinted at but not followed through? What?? And the pacing starts great but then ends up being way too fast to be commendable.

Gaming 5/5

Very good read for both LoL players and complete strangers to the game. No small thanks to the translators, who did an amazing job in explaining certain "obscure" terms for non-players. <<less

Truly, a masterpiece!!! Our main couple, Soft and Road were honestly the cutest ever!!! Their love story made my heart cry and omg our little dumbass Soft, Laozi is happy you got your happy ending!!! The way Soft hit back at the haters and trolls, laozi is proud of you baby!!
Also, our side couple Pine and Bye, they were so cute, I was stuffed with dog food during this whole novel!!
All jokes aside, I finished this novel after reading You use a gun, I’ll use a bow and honestly I thought it would be mediocre in comparison but now, they both hold a special place in my heart! I don’t know much about the lol games but I found this novel extremely easy to follow and the pace and storyline were amazing!!!

thank you for the many laughs, laozi is off to read the next gaming novel!

Seems like I have to write a review if I want to rate it so... I'm not going to dig deep. I just want to say that this is utterly adorable! MC and ML are very refreshing, especially MC. I've met only a few characters like him before. I enjoy the other characters too :D It was very entertaining and fluffy to read, and it's pretty lighthearted. I braced myself for heavy angst but it never came (thank you for sparing my fragile heart!). Actually, I've been looking for a... more>> plot centered around e-sports but they're rarer than diamonds. Since this novel indulged me first, I may be a little biased towards it, so... even if I do feel the plot lacking in some aspects, I'd still rate it 1000/5 if I could! <<less

This is one of the best e-sport novels...... with a very good gaming element and aspects and fights, Sweet Romance and one of the most unique fanbase present.

As someone who enjoy story with good gaming details and love to see/read people gameplay and aspects, this novel is a big plus point. It's so well written..... the competion and game atmosphere, the game character and gameplay action detail in slow-motion..... it totally hooked me. I haven't played LOL yet but I have played game similar to that (OA) and so it kinda gave nostalgic feel as I don't play games anymore
Spoiler

The scene where MC got the penta kill actually gave me goosebumps.

[collapse]

MC Soft...... I am one his fan dads now. This dumbass son of mine is pretty good at tr*sh taking and there isn't an argument he can't win....... he's such a badass who doesn't care a sh*t about other people opinion on him.... except for ML. When this son tried to look like good obedient boy infront of his idol (ML), it was kinda cute.

As for ML Road..... he is charming, rich and OP. He's cold+cool kinda guy...... that's all. There's nothing particular about him that stood out for me..... except one thing.
Spoiler

He didn't took the advantage of MC idolizing him and instead tried to show/tell the MC the real him...... I like that.

Also I don't totally hate guys who take advantage of things like that..... after all it's just fictional and all is fair in love and war

[collapse]

The Romance in here...... It was sweet and adorable and good and cute but I also find it bit lacking compare to this author other gaming BL novel (GHFOD) and (PUBG). Regardless it was still sweet and good.

Well, Chemistry wise I find Side Couple more attractive than main one (i am so into opposite attraction Story). Sadly it was only 7 chapter....... I wouldn't have mind reading a whole another book about them.

The major plus point for me in this novel aside from gaming element is the MC soft DadFanBase. MC relationship with his DadFanbase is unique..... you definitely won't find another DadFanbase like that (if you do, do tell me, thank you). The interaction between MC and His water army of dad is Interesting and hella funny........ better read yourself to get the grip of it. I'll miss this Fanbase

It was also Interesting to see the relationship between pro members.... especially TTC members.

Side characters were pretty good too. Among them (Excluding side couple) Savior was kinda my favorite.
Spoiler

I thought that he gonna be the arrogant guy as how TTC and PUD were both after him but then turn out that he's actually such a sweet, pure little dumpling. Who want to make friend with MC. I found it very funny and adorable when he started learning how to curse.

I also like how there were some RL e-sport problem too.

Now coming too the minus point..... Xenophobia.... well, this kinda issue happens a lot in novels (not only chinese) plus it's just fictional and Xenophobia issue is kinda used to bring up the antagonist environment or people...... so yeah, I usually just ignore it most of the time, but have to say MSI arc was bad.... it went too much, though I kinda enjoy it too [Sweat]..... but well, atleast they didn't shown whole korean team as the bad guy.

Also I was kinda hoping too see E-sport go more international. Sad that it lack in that area. Below not Spoiler, Just my comment
Spoiler

I was kinda hoping too that they would introduce more pro international player. Aside fron 3 korea player (master, 98k and savior), there isn't any other international pro player....... thought one was introduce a bit once (the one who was top jungler before ML), but after that there no more news about him plus every other international player we encountered in MSI was like NCP character. Even though not much details and dept, I wished author had introduce us to more international pro player..... like some international country player being no.1 support or no.1 ADC or the no.1 TOP and not like every chinese player be better than other country international player. It would have been so better that way.
