The Villain Has Something to Say

Description

As the head disciple of the number one sect in the world, Luo Jianqing had a brilliant reputation. He was the most respected senior brother of his junior brothers and sisters: the last disciple of the cultivation world’s number one cultivator, Luo Jianqing greatly respected his master’s teachings, not crossing his limits by even half a step.

Afterwards…… he was stabbed to death just like that by the main character with his sword. His master’s sword.

Luo Jianqing: “……”

The heavens wants me dead, yet I refuse to die! See if the will of the heavens is more fearsome, or if the will of my sword is more stubborn!

Wu Yin: “Jianqing, I have something to say to you.”

Luo Jianqing: “Master, I also have something to say to you.”

Wu Yin: “… you speak first?”

Luo Jianqing: “You speak first.”

Wu Yin: “I like you.”

Luo Jianqing: “I want to top you.”

Wu Yin: “……”

New translator here *bows* (///∇///✿)

I’m not eloquent enough to write a lengthy and detailed review but all in all, The Villain Has Something To Say has everything I could ask for in a BL novel and is definitely one of my ALL time favorites.

I will start translations at c14 and attempt to do justice to Mo Chen Huan-laoshi’s work! Please take care of me~

This is so good that made me leave a review...

First you must now that this is not your "only romance matters" kind of novel but a XINXIA bl novel and most important A f*ckING GOOD ONE, in my opinion this is one of the best couples that I read and the number 1 ML this is coming from someone that read almost every bl novel in the site, so just trust me and read this masterpiece from one of my favorite authors that I promise you are not going to... more>> regret,

WARNING : This is a super mega HE, sometimes you may think that is gonna end in tragedy but keep calm and mantra "HE HE HE", another thing is if you like me is going to MTL the novel don't forget to look for the extras because they are pure sugar. <<less

Ugh, I have such mixed feelings about this!

On one hand, this novel has an absolutely fantastic premise. A "villain" transmigrates into his past self, realizes his world is actually a book (and that his enemy is the protagonist protected by "Heaven's Will"), and then promptly tries to figure out how to fix things. The original book protagonist is himself a transmigrator (from "our" world) and is scummy as heck, so watching him get his just desserts is super fun. It's also one of the few BL webnovels I've read that's... more>> actually kind to its female characters. There's no jealous, scheming, angry women here (even the ones who are in love with the main character! which is #lowbars, but y'know). In fact, the main character even goes out of his way to save the women who, in his past life, were mistreated by the protagonist. (This is the part that reads most like a traditional stallion novel tbh, since most of the harem members fall in love with the main character instead, though he obviously doesn't get an actual harem since he has his One True Love.)

On the other hand, the relationship is a master/disciple one, and it's even more f*cked in terms of power dynamic than other ones I've read. The master literally picked up the main character as a baby and raised him to adulthood. (I know there's like a few mentions of the second disciple-brother being the one to raise the main character from like age 2 to 13, but still.) I probably wouldn't be as creeped out by this if the narrative doesn't constantly remind us of the fact that the master raised him.

Spoiler

Like... when they sleep together for the first time as a couple... did the author really have to have the characters remembering when the main character was like 6 and crawling into his master's bed because he didn't want to sleep alone... did she really have to... why.

Also, even the story keeps reminding the audience that this relationship is bad-wrong and in*estuous!!

[collapse]

I honestly had to speed-skim a lot of the story because the relationship was often so creepily described by the author.

On a less serious note, the xianxia backdrop is also... extremely prominent, as others have mentioned. And I didn't think I'd have a problem with this, but there's so much infodumping about power levels and artifacts. None of it feels really organic or like an actual, populated world. It reads a bit like a collection of tropes that the author is just trotting out to meet a quota or to make a fight exciting. A minor annoyance in the grand scheme of things (especially in the face of the relationship issue, which I find far worse) but worth mentioning.

The translation from Flying Lines also jumps around wildly in quality, and there's no consistency to terms used. (And some strange choices regarding which terms are translated and which are straight-up pinyin'd.) I might've read this more diligently if it was translated more diligently, but since it isn't, and I'm not interested enough to actually go read the raws, I'm probably only ever going to come back to this in fits and bursts, if at all. <<less

An interesting duo.

For some reason, Luo Jianqing reminds me of Luo Binghe (from Scum Villain by MXTX). Not just because they are both the disciples, but because of their unspeakable feelings towards their Master. Similarly, Xuan Lingzi also reminds me of Shen Qingqiu because of their seemingly cold temparament.

Master/Disciple is a really adorable pair for me as I love this kind of in*est.

I would honestly love to continue reading this novel. However, I became uninterested and fed up with Flying Line's translation. There are a lot of stories that... more>> lost their luster because of them!

To avoid unfairness, I decided not to rate it.

*sigh* It's so hard to be a non-Chinese reader. <<less

The story is quite interesting and I would absolutely love to read it more and finish it with another translator.

Because Flying Lines translation is garbage, I could barely understand what was happening with no translator notes all the beautiful chinese metaphores were butchered, I could not make myself finish the book.

I pray for another team to take over this book and redo all the mtl'ed chapters.

On the other note, some people say about groomibg and stuff but I would not say it is true. There were affection from ML towards... more>> MC from the young age, but as soon as MC hit the teenage years, ML isolated himself and barely interacted with MC.

They became close and intimate well past MC's legal age, and it was MC that pursued ML as the description says. Please note that. <<less

This is a funny Xianxia/BL/drama series that focuses on the counterattack of a man reborn at the beginning of a novel fighting against the scumbag transmigrator in the scumbag protagonist position. The original protagonist of the novel is disgusting, and it only gets worse. Fortunately, the transmigrator is far less cunning and unable to be successful in evil schemes compared to the original protagonist. He's definitely someone to hate in the beginning, but things change as the MC learns how to deal with his protagonist halo.

To clarify the beginning of... more>> the setting, both the MC and another character have memories of their previous lives as manipulated by the book's script. However, the novel isn't entirely accurate. The MC is reborn at the beginning of the book with those memories. The first volume of the series falls from the sky (there is yet to be an explanation for this occurrence), and he reads it. Using his memories and the information from the first volume, he is able to figure out what's been going on and seeks to change things to protect his life as well as the many other lives ruined by the original protagonist. The setting is a little confusing at first, so I felt it was important to explain this. Furthermore, the MC's master has two names--Wu Yin and Xuan Lingdi. They are the same person.

The characters are great. The secondary characters are developed as well. Unfortunately, there's a lack of description for the characters--the MC is pretty and looks like a woman, the master is handsome, the BFF is even more feminine than the MC, one chick has pigtails, and one woman is voluptuous. I think that's all the description given to the characters in this entire series thus far. This makes them extremely difficult to envision. Over a hundred chapters later, random descriptors that never appeared in the text show up. For instance, I'd been visualizing the master as a middle-aged man with white hair all this time, but it turns out his hair is black.

There is hardly any imagery at all in this series.

The ML's character is fairly flat. He's more like an ultra-pure tsundere than anything, so it's pretty easy for readers to switch from the shipping the MC with the ML to the MC with the BFF instead. Compared to him, the MC's personality is more developed, but it changes significantly as the series goes on, and he matures. He puts on an obedient face in public, but he's actually quite ornery and reckless. He enjoys provoking his friends. HOWEVER, the MC is a Gary Stu. He's a super-pretty genius who everyone falls in love with.

There is the bare minimum of background information, but it isn't developed to the point you could imagine playing a video game based off of it. There is almost no explanation for training or even any training montages. The fights are over-the-top weird mystical fights that are boring for that lack of realism or even feeling a threat.

This is entertaining, but it doesn't dish out a whole lot of emotions. Sure, there was trauma in the MC's past life, but it's not written in a way to make anyone cry over it. The action is weak. The s*x scenes are inexplicit thus far, making this series arguably more of a shounen-ai than a yaoi. It's an fun read, and I had trouble putting it down. However, it's not worth five stars not only because of how much it is lacking but the fact the MC is a Gary Stu.

I don't include translation quality when reviewing a series on Novel Updates, but the translation quality is a mess. Once Flying Lines takes over, many things change. Gold Core Cultivators become Cold Core (this happens many times, so it's not a typo), rogue cultivators become rouge cultivators, weird words that don't appear in regular English show up and require a dictionary to try to interpret, "bice" is a frequently-used word for a while that makes me keep imagining the MC covered with lice, names of titles keep changing, the petals are pedals for a very long time, genders of characters keep changing (which is even worse since we don't know what any of them look like aside from gender), etc. The MC starts practicing a seizure technique, which is as translated by the first translator. Does he like seize all over the bed or what? There has got to be another way to translate it that doesn't leave me baffled every time. Like a devouring technique or something. <<less

Unfortunately after 15 chapters I have to stop. First few chapters were good but then MC went on a little journey with the disciples and that´s when things... slowed down. What got me first was the title but then I realised this novel is word vomit. Too many names, too much info about cultivation and whatnot, I was struggling to keep my eyes open, hence the 1 star. Nothing worth mentioning of MC, all I got so far is that he´s in love with ML and is a first rate... more>> beauty. Even the antagonist has more personality. I tip my hat to anyone who can continue from here without falling asleep. cheers <<less

Honestly, this was pretty good until I realized the whole grooming thing was going on. I love revenge anti-harem stories. Can I get an edited version of this that doesn't involve someone raising their own husband? Please???

(I know we're not supposed to bash translators, but uhhh. Flying Lines is 100% MTL that's cleaned up terribly. It's really not good. Honestly, if it's not MTLed, I'll eat my own tailfeathers.)

Just started on this novel and I am loving the plot so far!<3

Our dear MC (Luo Jianqing) died a wrongful death (aka he was killed by protagonist) and was reborn back to the past and that is when he started to obstruct the protagonist's successful life lol.

Spoiler

[Apparently, he is pretty enough to be called a 'Shijie' Haha

Plusss I got this gut feeling that his Master (ML) has transmigrated back to the past too!!! &Amp; It seems like poor MC has a crush on ML last time ;-;

[collapse]

Additionally, I really love how mildly savage he is right now and can't wait for ML to make an appearance! If I have to say, the way he retaliates against the protagonist is not unrealistic at all-like everything goes slowly. <<less

Disclaimer: I read the Chinese raw, so I can't speak of the English translation quality.

If you want heart ache. Angst. More heart ache for the main CP. Then some EXTRA heart ache for side CP. With a side of finally-a-stallion-harem-novel-"mc"-gets-put-in-his-place, this is the novel to read. If you get bored of this novel half way through, that's alright, it got a bit dry in the middle. You can skim 'till the epilogue. HOWEVER. You must read the extra. The extra is (juicy with R18+ scenes) heart wrenchingly good. It'll break... more>> your heart then mend it together.

I'd give it 4 stars for plot and 5 stars for heart ache but with a HE! <<less

Spoiler

On that day, there were no clouds near TaiHua Mountain and pretty hills. The two disciples who guarded the gates of the mountain were chatting with each other. They suddenly saw three streams of light flying from a distance, and quickly stopped in front of the gate of the TaiHua Mountain.

The two disciples looked at the three men and their eyes widened. One of them was surprised with a big mouth open, and the other person stared for a long time. Then he suddenly turned back and shouted in horror: "Not good. Senior brother came back with his wife and son!!!"
Luo Jianqing, who was just about to open his mouth, said: "..."
Mo Qiu, a red man : "..."
Because of being too weak, he turned into a child like Dan. Yao Qingjun: "..."

Ah! I laughed so hard and had to post this one. ????????

________

At Ch98

All of you must have wondered what happened to the protagonist as he couldn't be killed by MC.

Well..

Spoiler

He was used like an exclusive treasure detector. Every three years MC would follow him and as the boy would discover rarities, MC would stun him and snatch those. The most good habit: Protag would report his whereabouts to TianHua Mountain before leaving. MC had no trouble in finding the boy.

????

As for the characters of the novel, they are fleshed out although sometimes may feel lacking but they do give the feeling of reality. But you must atleast read till ch35. Then, you will get this feeling.

Don't judge this novel fast. You will lose a gem ?. <<less

Had to make an account to review this.

This novel is one of my absolute favorites.

Just the premise and execution alone is /chefs kiss/

But my absolute favorite part is the main CP. I don't want to spoil... but when reading, you can just tell how unconditional their loves is and /sigh/

This one is also deliciously angsty, but worry not! It's an HE

PS: For those not reading the raws, know that the Flying Lines translation is rather questionable with bizarrely split up chapters.

PPS: The spicy scenes are spicy ^^

I finally created an account to write a review for this underrated masterpiece. If you are looking for an in depth, plot-centric cultivation novel, this work delivers exceptionally well.

Tldr; Basically, this book has given me a hell of a rollercoaster ride. I spent many countless nights muffling my laughter and washing my face with tears. I have also reread the book and it still gives me withdrawal symptoms. Nothing less of what I expected from the author of The Earth is Online. Give it a go, you might find yourself... more>> immersed in this wonderful story too.

Plot and World Building 9.5/10

A+ storytelling, the pacing was done right. The writer spends the first one-third of the book building up the premise, introducing the characters and exploring the world. The readers are slowly introduced to the different terminologies and the cultivation world. If you're new to cultivation novels, this is probably the part where you might struggle a little, but if you manage to get through it, you'll be in for a real treat. In the next one-third of the book, the plot starts to thickens and the story deepens. I like how things makes sense, as it would be explained in the later part of the book why certain events happened the way they did. Everything is joined together logically and the story flows seamlessly. In the final one-third of the book is where things are very fast-paced and action packed, but the reader can easily follow since the first one-third of the book has already done its job.

All loose ends are tied, a few are not explicitly explained but can be easily inferred if you read between the lines. Though I think that there are quite a few references to cultivation ideology and concepts throughout the story, and also Buddhist ideas by Fo Zi (one of the supporting characters). It might be hard for readers who are new to cultivation stories to enjoy but for those who are familiar with it, these adds appeal and authenticity to the story.
Spoiler

As an overarching theme, the information of the MC's past life is slowly revealed to the readers throughout the entire novel. It creates a little sense of suspense and mystery, since the information is disseminated little by little along the way.

[collapse]

Spoiler

The only thing that stood out awkwardly for me was the background story of one of the side couples, the dynamics just changed abruptly and didn't make sense to me no matter how I try to comprehend it. But that was mostly in the extras, so I can just close one eye for it during the main storyline.

[collapse]

Spoiler

When things get bad and seems impossible to recover, please just chant HE HE HE. It is a HE (a believable one, not just pasted on for the sake of it), but has enough knives and angst to make you feel the punch of the story.

[collapse]

Characters 9/10

TVHSTS has a wide and diverse cast of characters, and I am impressed by how the writer could make so many characters three dimensional and alive. You get attached to these characters, relate to their experiences and this brings emotional weight to the story.

The side characters are so adorable and I'm always happy to see some screen time for them as well. One downside is that perhaps one side character is written a little too well. He overshadows the ML for the first portion of the novel, though I think that this is rectified in the later part of the novel. <<less

Never thought I'd be writing a review but I felt the need to defend this one.

The ML did not raise the MC.

I repeat

No raising.

The two have barely had any contact until the MC was an adult.

Honestly if you're here, stop reading reviews and just go read this novel. I promise you won't regret it~~

Spoiler

Very random and I hate myself a little for saying this but the ML honestly reminds me of a combination between lwj and cwn.

... cough

This is 1v1 angst with a satisfying HE. Its been awhile since I read this but I still vividly remember the scene of the MC's death in his first life. I remember crying then and during a few other chapters and I'm not an easy cryer!

I recommend reading it yourself and forming your own opinions. Don't be influenced by others :3

Fell in love with this. Absolutely. It’s too good >< a completely different take on transmigration. Instead of focusing on the transmigrated character, it focused on a character of the main world.

This story is a journey of getting back what rightfully belonged to the main world from a world that was so entirely biased to the transmigrator. Self-discovery and all that.

Even though I do feel that some of the scenes were a bit exaggerated. I guess it’s normal in the cultivation world for everyone to be throwing up blood every... more>> now and then? It’s fine. I get they are injured.

Anyways I’d say this is a must read. I still can’t get over this novel and will be coming back to it soon. <<less

Thought I already left a review for this novel but turns out I havent.

This is a really excellent xianxia novel... that also happens to have a BL romance. When reading it is important to keep that in mind. Just like many of this authors other excellent works like Earth is Online, there is legitimate and very detailed plot carrying the novel and not just romance.

However the romance is definitely there!! But those expecting a typical melodramatic fast paced face slapping danmei rebirth story will get confused. It might seem that... more>> way in the beginning and maybe author intended it that way but she quickly got too into the setting and so....

But the story is super awesome. Just sit along and enjoy the ride of the MC's cultivation journey and the struggles between the different sects.

The love story between the MC and ML is more heartfelt because you get to learn so much about them and their back story. There is also a super awesome second male lead but MC only has ML in this eyes.

If you are patient, you won't regret going on this epic journey with MCH. All of her works are excellent. <<less

This is one of my favorite novels! Although usually I prefer to read system novels, but this one made me love the reborn genre! Still MC is my most favorite, sorry not sorry to my collection of MCs from other novels. But he's really my type of MC!

It's hilarious when MC was mistaken as a senior sister by his junior. Well, he's pretty though and that's not a problem. Pretty and handsome...

As the story progressed, the MC who hated the Protagonist of Seeking Immortality (But, he acted like... more>> a brainless idiot, and when I read his line, it made me face-palm and thought about how embarrassing he is.) tried to make the Protagonist fail to progress like the plot in the book he read. As far, he always got interrupted by the so called heaven will. Meh, so annoying, and that Protagonist too.

He is quite dark, and I even thought he was a demon with human skin. But, no way! I can't imagine it, but I can imagine MC as a succubus, and ah, I have nosebleed. He's so pretty, okay!

It's really interesting, and the cultivation theme made my imagination run wild about the oncoming conflicts and problems (and that idiot Protagonist, I still hate him. The stereotype of transmigrated Protagonist, ugh, and don't forget the brainless part. So embarrassing) . Master x disciple... Oooohhhh! I wonder, what kind of future will they have?

Maybe I can mtl for answer. I can't wait, even with those complicated thing typical of xianxia world. And the plot! It really makes me unable to speculate the future events.
Spoiler

That damned Protagonist! You already a former stallion Protagonist and you even want to taste men as well?! Tsk! But then again, I discovered the master's love like for his disciple, thanks to his "efforts", but I hate him.

This novel... Even if I expected something like this, but not so soon. Ugh so unpredictable. But, still interesting for me.

Probably one of my top novels ever.

The plot is decently prominent. But as someone who enjoys xianxia overall, it was quite to my liking. Especially considering that it really ties the novel together in the latter half.

But the main couple, the main couple, is absolute gold. This novel has got to have one of the most badass shous I've ever seen. The MC and ML are actually equals! 0.0

... more>> The two of them are legit yandere for each other and I love it.

As for the angst! It was knives... but good knives! The knives are then cocooned in sugary fluff, before finally wrapping up in a satisfying happy ending. I have a handful of novels I'd like to just forget and reread so I can fully experience it again and this is definitely one of them.

As for the papapa scenes:

Spoiler

There are several spicy scenes sprinkled throughout the novel and they are... spicy

I particularly remember an extra that was especially explicit and detailed. *nosebleeds*

4 for story, 2 for translation

I hope eventually a more experienced translator and editor will do their own take on this novel because the Flying Lines chapters read like mtl (or at least mtl-assisted translation).

That being said, it’s good enough to get what is going on, and the story and chapters are really fun.
