– The planet [Earth] has entered the abnormal state [Apocalypse].

– You have failed in saving the Earth. The Authority, [Vintage Clock (EX)] rewinds the world’s time.

For Yu Jitae, it was a message he had seen many times.

It was tiresome.

It would have been great had he died with everyone else.

But he couldn’t, for his authorities that made him the strongest existence, brought him back in time whenever he died.

And even with his strength, he couldn’t protect the broad earth against the maddened dragons.

– The world’s time will soon begin.

As the clock resumed ticking in the direction it should, his 7th iteration came to a start.

Fortunately, he finally had the gist of it.

This novel just makes me happy. If you want a op main character you got it. If you want great characters who get continuous development you got it. If you want an interesting world you got it and if you want a story about a guy learning how to be a human again by helping raise a family you REALLY got it. I am annoyed I found this now because I don’t have enough chapters to read, so be warned that you will be waiting for your next hit desperately.... more>> But do read it <<less

I wanted to like this, but unfortunately I'm putting it on hiatus. The dialogue is very terse and fragmented, the story isn't very interesting, and I'm not really feeling an attachment to the story or characters. You occasionally get some fun scenes e.g. With Green or Yellow but overall the MC is very dull and the worldbuilding is below average.

Hats off to the translator for the notes and effort but for some reason the writing doesn't flow very well for me.

Also please don't kidnap me.

By the way, this review has major spoilers. So uh... I guess it would be an easy way to convince yourself if you are on the fence about reading it, but just so you know: you might lose a lot from the experience if you read this review.

This. Novel. Is. Amazing.

I've been reading this novel for over a year and a half now, and time and time again have I thought about writing a review for this novel. Today is the day I finally created an account to review this... more>> novel. I've never written a review before, so please excuse me if this review just becomes me fanboying over the novel.

Kidnapped Dragons is a masterpiece with huge emphasis on character development. Literally the whole story is about how Yu Jitae and the dragons grow as people throughout their time together. I don't know what type of alternate dimension this author came out from, but he has inhuman writing skills that are able to create such depth to the characters that it is almost like they are real. I am not joking when I say I am attached to these characters. Each time they change, and each time they grow as people, I feel so moved as if I am their parents watching them grow up.

Spoiler

Plot

The world is one fated with destruction. The reason behind the world's destruction? Dragons. Four hatchlings at that. These hatchlings accidently stumbled onto Earth when trying to go through their Amus**ent (I guess like a self-discovery journey), and because humans are well... humans, they suffered in some way or another. This lead to adult dragons rampaging on Earth as to avenge the hatchlings. Our main character is a regressor who has made it his life's (or I guess existence's?) purpose to stop the world's fated destruction. He has lived over countless iterations trying to prevent the world's destruction; but, even when he reached the pinnacle of strength, he still wasn't able to stop it. This is his 7th attempt, and this time he has decided to approach the problem in a more sophisticated method than violence.

One thing I especially love about this novel is the difference in iterations. The fact that there were other instances of these characters that contrast so much with the current iteration's make the character development seem that much heavier. It is like a way of knowing how far they've improved from their original selves.

Characters

Yu Bom: Bom is such a complex character and I love it. She is a green dragon, meaning she has outstanding social skills. She is able to read the mood, great at acting, has quick judgement, and is overall a sly fox. She has the ability to look into Providence, meaning she always has an idea what the general outcome of her decisions will be. This compliments her abilities well, but also makes her vulnerable when she is unable to look into Providence (honestly it makes her really cute, too). She focuses heavily on pleasing others. She thinks that being "mature" is being able to hide her emotions from others. Because of that, she also tends to disregard her own opinions and ideas.

Later on in the novel, Bom learns to be more selfish. Through spending time with Yu Jitae, she develops romantic feelings for him. These eventually spiral into complex emotions that she has a hard time keeping locked in her heart. When she finally starts opening up a little to him, she develops a half-hidden obsession over him.

Yu Yeorum: Yeorum probably has the heaviest backstory of the dragons. She is a red dragon, and a weak one at that. In a race where power rules all, being weak is like a death sentence. Her feisty and tough personality is due to her harsh upbringing. A red dragon's goal in their Amus**ent is to become stronger. So, to make up for her weak self she constantly pushes herself to her limit and single-mindedly focuses on getting stronger.

I don't even know where to begin in explaining Yeorum's growth as a character. Originally, she was self-reliant, and she thought of those stronger than her helping her out as sympathy from the powerful to the weak. She is an extremely competitive person who can't help but be discouraged when others are more talented than her. But, after experiencing countless hardships with Yu Jitae and somehow making it through them, she learns to be more open in relying on others, and that what matters isn't other people's progress but her own.

Yu Gyeoul: MY FAVORITE CHARACTER HOLY SHI- *cough* Gyeoul is the epitome of cuteness. I can't properly put into words how adorable she is, but I'll try anyways. Gyeoul is a blue dragon who hatches on Earth during the beginning of the Amus**ent. She is a childish little dragon with little to no idea about the world, and it is absolutely heartwarming to watch her grow up.

Yu Jitae plays the father figure in Gyeoul's life. Despite his scary demeanor, Gyeoul has never feared the regressor. I love the clinginess she shows to him, even after she grows older she never stops showing affection for him. She is really cute because she is naïve of the world, and her reactions to things that are unexpected are really funny. Every interaction she makes in the novel always makes me smile like an idiot.

Yu Kaeul: Another really complex character! Kauel is a golden dragon, meaning she has the ability to empathize with others. What I mean by that is that she can literally experience that person's emotions herself to the point where she can think exactly like them. This ability is extremely detrimental to the mental health of our innocent golden dragon. She has a cheerful nature, but she is also extremely weak-minded. Once she faces hardship, she easily falls down a rabbit hole of depression.

I think Kauel has had the most significant growth in character compared to the rest of the dragons. In the previous iterations, Kauel has always been some influential person who becomes absorbed in the attention of others. Due to her personality, ability, and the nature of social media, Kauel always becomes overwhelmed from negative feedback. She resorts to terrible forms of stress-relief like drugs and alcohol, eventually becoming suicidal because she can't handle it anymore. In this iteration, Kauel has grown so much stronger compared to her alternate selves. Yu Jitae lead Kauel into a completely different direction from the previous iterations. She is now a little more headstrong, and has found a more meaningful purpose to her life.

Yu Jitae: Oh boy, I've finally reached the main character of the story. Yu Jitae is the most realistic take on a regressor I have ever seen. He is completely different from other regressors, that is, he is a human devoid of normal emotions and is willing to do anything he can to achieve what he wants. He utilizes his previous iterations to cut off problems at the stem, and he easily kills people if they pose a threat or become troublesome to deal with in the future. It is an established fact from the beginning that he is the strongest being on Earth. There is no bullsh*t where he uses previous life information to become stronger, because he is already the strongest he can be.

Yu Jitae is what makes this novel so fun. The backstory behind him and his character is pretty unique, and it is interesting to watch his blunt reactions and his irrationally rational behavior. Not only that, but the change in him is the most obvious of any character. Throughout the story, he slowly becomes more human again. His emotions return, and his previous cold-heartedness starts to melt, although only a bit.

[collapse]

TL;DR: Just read this novel, you won't regret it.

I'm sorry if this review was a bit of an infodump lol. I'm not used to writing anything other than essays, so this review might vaguely resemble one. But, I hope this review was helpful to anyone wondering if they wanted to read this masterpiece. <<less

I had fun with this novel but decided to drop it, lots of the novel feel like filler with minimal character growth but I did like most of the characters except Bom. The protagonist feels quite realistic for an immortal regressor and if you can handle Bom it is probably an excellent story. My reason for dropping this is in the spoiled below.

Spoiler

now for Bom, I dislike her greatly being the female lead, I would rather she stayed as just another daughter or go down the harem route. To me Bom is an manipulative but surprisingly flat character, she has no interest of her own except teasing the protagonist and chapters that show her perspective makes my opinion of her lower greatly. She sees the protagonist as some sort of romance game where she has the cheat code due to her future sight and constantly plays him because of it. This could be helped if she had some character to her for me to relate or at least understand her actions but she doesn't. It truly makes me feel like she's a manipulative, vile person in my mind who has no respect for personal boundaries. Basically she has no tact and it disgusts me. This all comapred to kauel who has the most character development and is charming, or yeorum who has her own goals and story and you slowly learn to love her by the later chapters and geouyl is adorable and I wish her the world too bad I will be dropping this due to the insufferable actions of Bom.

The heartwarming story of how a man who's exhausted by life gets better by raising four cute girls. Since he's an overpowered regressor, the conflicts themselves are rarely all that dramatic, and the charm of this story is the cute family scenes. There's too much plot progression to really call it a slice-of-life, but most of the good scenes are of that nature. In other words, this is the story of how an edgelord Korean protagonist becomes a responsible family man.

This is excellent, I highly recommend it :

Pro

  • Good world building, there is a little bit of Korea number one so I was worried, but it's brief and only an excuse to make things happen in SK in the beginning.
  • MC is really well thought out, a very very overpowered but old tired soul after so many regressions. In a way he became like an old dragon. He isn't immature like so many regressors are, while not an insane psycho machine either. You really wonder what happened to make him like that in the hundreds of subjective years he lived. His nanny role is also very fitting in a way and it seems to change him slowly from his dead emotional state.
  • The dragons are well developed as young characters and interesting to follow. The blue dragon is the cutest thing ever!
  • Long chapters.
  • Quality translation.
Con

  • The world is fleshed out but not enough yet, and it kinda lacks lore and explanation about the power and magical system in place.
  • I don't think it has romance, but at least it's counterbalanced by nice family interactions.

This novel is definitely a must read. I can not emphasize enough how good is this. Other reviews already showered it with praises so I will not pile on to that and will just state what I didn't like about the novel

    1. Yu Jitae, our protagonist, is already the strongest existence from the very start so it's hard to build up tension in fights since you already expect it to be a one-sided slaughter.
      Spoiler

Later in the novel, he will even slaughter judges, which are akin to gods in the providencial plane, with ease. There's really nothing that can threaten him except himself

      [collapse]
    2. I'm not really a fan of the ending for two reasons. Firstly, it dabbled on time travel shenanigans.
      Spoiler

It will be hard to make sense for people who haven't read up to this point but just know that there will be some time travel paradox. So Yu Jitae will use his skills, Conceptualization and Regression, to go back in time to stop his 6th iteration version of himself from commiting his 'sin' of killing Lugiathan, his future black dragon mother in law. But the skill, Conceptualization was only acquired by Yu Jitae through killing Lugiathan. By stopping his self, he will not get Conceptualization which means him travelling back to that specific time is not even possible. Not to mention that Conceptualization was used on Origin fragment of Myu to find the coordinates of Askalifa. Which means without conceptualizuation, he wouldn't be able to send the dragons home and he will not find about the truth about his 'sin' and he won't have a reason to go back in time. In short, it's messy

      [collapse]
Secondly, it uses this cliche trope commonly seen in alot romance kdramas.
      Spoiler

The trope is the temporary parting at the ending part. It usually goes *insert reason for parting here* then time skip and then they meet again and live happily ever after. It's more of a personal taste but as someone who watched a lot of kdramas, I'm sick and tired of this trope.

Really well written series, actually good characters and cool world building.

What really makes this series is the translator though, might be the best translator I've seen. Reads like it was written in native English and the speed is absurd, these are very very long chapters, yet RainingTL manages to release almost every day. Seriously impressive and much appreciated.

I so so so regret not reading this earlier. I've been putting off this novel for a month because it seemed like it'll just be another cliche harem type novel. But I was wrong. The novel was amazing. And the core of this novel wasn't even romance. Although there is slow romance, it is actually good. The character development of this novel is phenomenal! Amazing! I really love this novel. Though there were very few things I could point out, overall I give this a 5. Which I am surprised... more>> as I read over 200 chapters, you would think that the quality would drop by then <<less

I'm a big fan of regression novels but lately its all been the same thing (dude goes back in time, becomes OP, gains OP companions/items, and gets revenge on those who betrayed him).

This is a refreshing take on the genre where MC is already OP from the start and realized that power alone cannot stop the apocalypse. He is a battered and bruised human who has gone through years of pain and suffering to the point where he is emotionless. This is pretty much a story where he gains back... more>> his humanity and rights his wrongs from his previous regressions.

Instead of focusing on the super OP protag, the novel instead focuses on the dragons with each having their own personality, flaws, and troubles that MC deals with and by interacting with them, he is slowly becoming 'human' again.

Overall, a great read so far. Hopefully it stays that way. <<less

The novel may not please everyone, the MC is very calm, too calm. The ripples in his emotion are rare and very small. His interaction aren't animated, but with the dragons interacting with each other it has some fun. But it's still early furthermore the MC had a tiring past, so it isn't unlikeable.

I really like the author's writing and the translator's work. It feels tailored to the MC personnality.

I'm still wondering about the 'romance' genre. I hope it doesn't focus on this yet as the world (s) dynamics aren't... more>> really clear for now..

The biggest reason why I like this novel, is that in the relationships and choices of the MC, I still don't know which 'side' to choose, and which he will take in the end. It's interesting, because he's keeping the 4dragons safe, but a dragon can feel how much he fought with dragons, how dangerous he is. Green dragons in particular. Will he be in good relationships with other dragons?
Spoiler

Thoughts of Bom in latest chapters were very interesting, but also worrying about the future..

[collapse]

Will he join hands with the dragons against the demons? Would the dragons accept? Does a part of the dragons have relationships with demons?
Spoiler

What about 'hostility', which side, why does it appear only now?..

Star Rating: 5/5
5: This is going on my lifetime favorites
4: Very good read
3: Okay, satisfactory
2: Didn't like it for several reasons
1: Did not finish, do not recommend

Setting: 4/5
- The power/magic systems in this world are glossed over a little, as they aren't the real focus of the story. This is a bit unfortunate, since half the novel is full of action scenes, so things kind of felt half-assed.
- The setting is mainly Earth, with a focus on Korea. The big differences are the new dungeons and the changes that they brought to society (e.g. Superhuman associations, different dimensions, new super-schools).
- The main focus is apartment Unit 301, which is where the MC lives and raises the baby dragons. The apartment unit and the individual rooms of each dragon are described in detail and I could picture the shenanigans happening in the apartment unit as if I was watching TV.
- Overall, the setting was well-done, 4/5.

Main Characters: 5/5
- The story swaps between the POV of the MC and the dragons, but is mainly told from the MC'S POV.
- There aren't many characters introduced, so the ones that are introduced are important and memorable.
- The main character is a regressor that has lived for centuries, has become overpowered, and has lost most of his emotions.
- The baby dragons (0/10/15/20 years old) all have very distinct personalities, as they are all of different races of dragons. They act like how one would expect kids of their respective ages would, and they are all written very well. They're also all so cute!
- The story is mainly about the character development of our MC and the baby dragons, so over the course of the story, they all become very well-developed characters. We get to know their innate personalities and how they evolve as they live together. All the characters start with major flaws, and each character tackles their issues and it was fun watching them grow.
- The 4 dragons are named after the 4 seasons because of the MC's lazy naming sense. However, their names fit their personalities.
- Bom (Spring) is the oldest of the 4, very smart and laid-back. As a green dragon, she loves nature and has a mediating personality. She takes the role of the 'oldest sister' and acts mature.
- Yeorum (Summer) is the 2nd oldest. As a red dragon, she has a prideful and fiery personality and loves to fight. She is an extremely hard worker, and I've come to respect her a lot.
- Kaeul (Autumn) is the 2nd youngest. As a gold dragon, she loves getting attention and is very empathetic. She has a very cheerful personality.
- Gyeoul (Winter) is the youngest of the 4. She's quiet and reserved, taking her time to speak when she does. As a blue dragon, she loves the sea or any water.
- Overall, the characters were incredible, 5/5.

Plot/Pacing: 4.5/5
- The pacing of the story is great, it didn't feel too fast or too slow.
- The novel explores the psychological issues that someone may experience when forced to repeat their lives hundreds of times. The frustration, loss of empathy, and exhaustion that someone can go through while slowly losing their mind, filled with centuries of sorrow. It also explores how someone like that can recover, grow, and redeem himself.
- The novel also explores the daily interactions of someone like that trying their best to raise 4 baby dragons (children/teenagers) and keep them happy.
- The story was not predictable at all, yet at the same time, everything that happened felt planned from the start! The clues are all there, so I do recommend a second read if you finish it.
- Some of the time travel stuff made no sense.
- Overall, the plot seemed well-planned out and well-executed, 4.5/5.

Overall Writing: 4/5
- Though the slice of life parts of the story were amazing, the action parts weren't that great. It didn't feel like the author had much experience writing action scenes. There was a lot of telling and not showing ("X beat Y after 10 minutes of intense battle")
- The author is, however, reaaally good at writing emotional scenes. The interactions between the cast are done really well and I got very attached to them as the story went on.
- Overall, the writing was good and the action scenes are forgivable since that isn't the main focus of this story, 4/5.

Enjoyability Factor: 5/5
- I got attached to all the dragons by the end. Yeorum is the standout character of this series in my eyes.
- The plot was great, the characters were great, the character development was great.
- I reread it after knowing the plot twists and got a good experience out of that.
- Overall, it is a must-read in my opinion, 5/5.

If you're looking for a sign to read this, this is it, or don't. This is some good sh*t story right here where we can see how broken a person can become after going back in time over and over and over again and unable to end the cycle until he finally tries to approach the latest regression in a more normal way. The MC is absurdly powerful as can be within the realms of his mortality. The best part about the novel is how MC rediscovers how it is... more>> being a human by his interactions with the abducted dragons. NGL the whole interaction with the four dragons are what really stands out for me for this novel. We get 4 different kinds of personal interaction where its fluffy af, makes your heart wrench, and so many other emotions that you can't find in most novels.

The sad part is, until the the time of writing this, It's still not fully translated, but fret not we have a solid translator working on this project for free!!! <<less

There is two sides to this novel:

    1. The fluffy side: Where you can see how our protagonist and the dragons interact in their daily life.
    1. The brutal side: Where you can see what the protagonist is doing when he's not caring for the dragon.
It is really wholesome seeing how the protagonist is changing the dragons just as how the dragons are changing him. And we can also see how cruel the semi-dystopian countries changed after magic is introduced to the world.

The characters are realistic and understandable, they have multiple dimensions with history backing up how they are acting. The novel mainly focuses on the protagonist and the 4 dragons, as expected of a slice of life novel. But the character developments the characters goes through after each arc is unreal, like, it's almost impossible to put it into words, as there is no words to describe how the author managed to write real people into these fictional characters.

The world building is complex but also not extremely complicated as to hurt your brain when you tried to think about it. The magic system is well defined, with the authorities being extremely cool powers.

This novel might be a bit slow to some people's taste, but I still recommend you give it a try. It is an extremely well written novel about how a broken regressor tries to acclimate himself to ordinary daily life.

The story is nice, slice of life is nice, the characters's development are really nice, nice waifus, but sometimes the community is kinda sh*t about the waifus. The MC is nice, strong, alpha type for whose like super strong MC, romance feel a little bit clumsy ? Is it because the personality of those waifus or my lack of romance but it is readable. You... more>> think this is a harem type? Uhh not think so, it's more like about family relationship bc they idol the strength of MC, they can rely on each other,... I keep putting off this review, since I usually focus on the negative aspects of novels. However I really can't come up with any for this one.

World building is okay. It's nothing to write home about, but it's definitely sufficient enough for this type of novel. So don't go in expecting to get a detailed explanation about the power system works.

Character development is amazing. After all, this novel is basically centered entirely around character development, so it would be strange if there wasn't a lot of it. Even the stone-cold... more>> regressor MC gets some character development, once and awhile. Due to the nature of this novel, the side characters are the ones who get the most character development, and they all have unique personalities.

The characters themselves could be considered cliche, but there aren't many super over-used character tropes. It really makes all the characters seem like a real family.

Romance. A lot of people can guess it but there isn't a whole lot of obvious romance considering the main character is emotionless. It basically consists of a certain character slowly but surely trying to get the main character to fall for her. I'm only on chapter 158 now, but it seems like this is when the romance is finally starting to take off, so thats good.

Anyways, if you asked your average reader of this novel what the characters are like, the first response you'd probably get is that the blue dragon, Gyeoul, is adorable. And it's true. It's probably why a lot of people read this novel too.

Overall, great novel. Can't wait for the rest of it to get translated. <<less

I have an issue with uselessly long worldbuilding, where 30% of the knowledge you gain is forgotten before it's even used. This story however tells everything that is necessary for the plot, without any bullsh*t, making it fluent and making one want more.

I have mixed feelings about this one. The premise of the story is there is an Earth with some modern society where superhumans exists. Some little space dragons ended up on Earth and if (when) any of them die then the big dragons come and destroy the planet. So dude, who is coming back in time, after each planet destruction, decides to save them. Dragons can turn into girls btw. The problem is that dude is very broken as a human being due to constant time rewinds and prone to... more>> extremes.

The trope of some tired soldier, who forgot what it means to live a normal life, taking care of young girls is not new. And all, what you can expect from this type of trope, is here, so I'm not gonna reiterate obvious things. Whole story can be divided into 3 parts: slice of life, romance and saving the world stuff.

Slice of life is perfectly fine, girls have very distinct personalities with their own share of different problems, and, since dragons get most of their "fun" in life when they are young, his job is making them happy. A lot of funny situations, misunderstandings, personal growth and fluff. Financial machinations of the youngest dragon is best part of the book.

Romance is... strange, the oldest dragon clearly like MC, but she is some type of yandere with a lot of mental problems, she probably have it worse than MC. So it's like two different mental patients trying to get along, but refuse to speak their mind. A lot of misunderstandings there, slow progress. A lot of inconsistencies like MC can't understand why female lead is so clingy like any anime high schooler and minute later he acting like a top alpha saying suggestive things to her. Both characters have extreme mood swings, yandere is obvious, but MC one chapter basically likes her and couple of chapters later she annoy him to the point of hitting her. Overall it feels very unhealthy, she is too dependent, while he is unstable psycho - you can say it is a good synergy, but it is extremely unhealthy.
Spoiler

Closer to the end, when he decides to share his dark history with her, he accepts, that he likes her, but still torturing her by breaking her teeth just to be sure, that she is not lying... and she is fine with that... like why I'm reading this torture p*rn...

[collapse]

Saving the world is totally boring, you can skip all the chapters and barely miss anything, there is no meaningful interactions (except when girls participate, which is not often), no interesting action. MC is too strong and have 0 personality, wants to kill anyone, who annoys him and to annoy him you basically don't need to do anything, just exist.

Pros:

    • A lot of slice of life fluff.
    • Dragons are likable and have personalities.
    • Ending.
Cons:

    • All main characters are mentally unstable.
    • Probably too much forced drama, tragic past etc.
    • A lot of saving the world stuff, which is boring and doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things.
    • Some relationship and situations are very unhealthy.
My main problem with this book is that characters having too much mental problems, sometimes I felt like there is four mental asylum patients trying to raise one child. And author like to torture (not a figure of speech) characters for no reason. I came for fluff and romance, and not some sick shit. And I don't feel like all of this really necessary. Otherwise it's nice slice of life with a romance. <<less
