A good premise, a terrific followup....... for about 100 chapters maybe?.... The real issue is by chapter... 150+ or so, you're expecting some of the threats mentioned in earlier parts of the series to be realized to some extent but they frankly aren't.

Furthermore the focus of the novel in the beginning is incredibly tight and the action (and the reactions) kind of get out of control quickly, sadly not in a good way either, a myriad of probably plot points are brought up early and later on left by the... more>> wayside, and even this is problematic because due to the way "powerlevels" are structured, time spent on pushing the main story forward also ultimately becomes pointless in the grand scheme of things.

It ends up being a very poor mix of trying to grab too many things and ultimately failing to get anything done at all. <<less

I wouldn't bother writing a review for a novel I dropped, but seeing how the hype keeps going I found myself wanting to at least warn others against this novel.

As a novel it is well written (and translated) and at the start the premise is good enough to keep you interested. But very early in the novel all the power levels of cultivation become obsolete, other paths to higher level magically appear, moreover new levels of cultivation appear out of thin air (or the author's magic hat). New opponents (with... more>> no depth of character) appear all the time becoming bothersome to read through many filler-like chapters/arcs. The MC gets many many powerups, to the point that almost every other chapter the MC's star shines and all goes well. New abilities, new gear, new power ups, new tons of money, new followers. The novel so far has never had a fight where all his assets have been put to use. And it will probably never have one. Even in the one fight
Spoiler

that he was defeated and lost his father-in-law he deployed almost nothing.

[collapse]
It is a harem novel, but the females are horribly written and marginalized as characters all the time. Girl A goes there, Girl B goes that way, oh hello fated Girl G. Where did the rest of the alphabet girls go? Can't remember.

A big part of why I dropped it, was what was reported as the author's attitude. Leaving novels infinished due to boredom (or lack of planning) Or starting writing new novels while the ones existing already take a back seat. Considering we get the translated chapters through the translator's generosity and readers' donations, a halfway done novel is unfair to both of them. I for one won't consider donating to a novel that might get dropped at a moment's notice by the author.

This is an example of a good novel gone wrong. I advise reading it only as filler. This is the 2nd novel I have dropped, the first being MGA for being of no stimulus to me. This one I just stopped caring at all. I really wish the translator picked another novel, a good one and keep doing that one. <<less

Oh boy, where do I start?

This one is pretty complex to embrace.

The MC is one of the most annoying pests you will find in any of the oriental novels.
He is so terrible and hate-able that it's a wonder anyone can read this for more then a dozen chapters.

When the story starts it appears he got somewhat send back in the past and tapped lightly the "underdog" theme. A big fat nope. It's not an underdog at all. He's an OP guy with a sleeve full of nasty surprises and... more>> he constantly skips a whole "realm of strenght" wich was supposed to be impossible. But whateva', ppl can't do it, but Nie Li is an MC so he can kind of policy.

All worse, it kind of makes sense once you get to the point where he get's back to the powerlevels he's used to. If you judge his first arc environment and the one that happens past it, the difference is clear as daaamn.

Still, it does not make it easier to swallow MC attitude toward anything.

You can do a way-too-long list of why you hate that guy, but the shortest and most accurate description I can make is this: Nie Li is a cancerous piece of shit.

Despite interesting concepts and a lot of stuff going around the story is poor.

Spoiler

I remember dropping it for months when he got to meet "goddess" and she teached him the laws thing and he got it so fast and deep that even "her", a "goddess" was all jealous and wtf - and for me it was *flips a table* F*ck you Nie Li!

[collapse]

If I were to rate it, I'd go with 2. Not one star, I had some amount of fun while reading it, but the quality of the story and its characters is constantly blinking in the "sh*t zone".

There might be people who enjoy this novel, but again, there are people who enjoy ATG. You know what I mean.

PS - I still read it. But not because I enjoy it. I simply have not enough novels around to read, and after a couple of hundreds of sips of this terrible brew of a tea, I'm already numbed to it - Still I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, even a mortal enemy. <<less

Terrific start.

But then it all kept going downhill once he got to the "City Lord's" mansion.

It's just... All the characters start turning into cookie cutter people EXCEPT for one girl. I forgot her name, but she fell in love with the MC pretty early on, and was willing to sacrifice a sh*t load of things and even turn her back on her family for the MC, but the MC is being ret*rded and kept pinning for the "main" girl that saved his life in his past life, but she's such... more>> a f*cking terrible character that I can't see WHY you would choose her.

Oh life debt? The other girl saved the MC's life too at some point and he STILL pinning for the main girl. f*ck that. No, f*ck you MC. I don't care if it's a harem. It tooj too LONG for you to even recognize the other girl.

Yes, my main complaint is the romance.

The great thing about this in the beginning was he was making his friends strong too.

But then the author completely chucked that out of the story and then just focused on making the MC op again and it just turns into endless MC d*ck wanking for his power level.

What I thought would be all about saving the city for the sake of noble things like love and friendship just turns into lust for "main" girl, endless power, and revenge against the guy that killed him in the first place.

Nah man, forget my friends and people who actually care about me! I just want to f*ck girl Numéro Uno and beat the crap out of everyone else! <<less

In the beginning, I did enjoy the story even though the MC is very arrogant it was still acceptable. he was living in a "weak" realm (before going to the divine feather sect).

Even in a sect with a strong heritage, the MC still act arrogant and everyone around treat him as a god. The MC always end up winning and "conning" (in a s*upid and unrealistic way) every enemy he meets. After sometime, the story get really boring because the MC knows every thing and will always be the winner.... more>> Adding the fact that every girls he meets fall in love with him!

The idea behind the story is very good, but the way they developed it is "weak".... <<less

This novel was pretty good until chapter 350+ in my opinion. MC's first love totally disappear for hundred of chapters and two more female lead appear and also hardly action too :^) Sweeeeeeeeeeet. Really hate this part about the novel.
Spoiler

Third girl comes out which was MC's previous life enemy which killed his master became a girl who likes him was pretty interesting at least in my opinion (girl's mom even come towards the MC to 'propose' for his daughter and MC just dicks it off. The girl's mom and her was in front of MC too. Sweet huh?). Author started to butchered the novel and rushed the novel in my opinion. Like what the hell. The person who killed MC's first love father and he meets the person in a place at around above chapter 350~400 I think and did nothing to him? The person who killed he MC's first love father was even someone important if he wants to kill the MAIN ENEMY. WDF? So many romance plot and hardly any actions at all. Part about MC being only loyal to first girl is nonsense too btw so I dont rly understand what the MC is still hesitating about right now.

Overall, TGD is like a beautiful piece of furniture that is in the wrong place. You like its unique appearance but every time you walk by to admire it in your living room, you stub your toe due to its location. But you never move it, only to stub your toe repeatedly.

TDG is both interesting and enjoyable to read. It has a relatively unique story that will be a fresh taste for many. The writing has a good pace to it and the side characters have much more presence than... more>> other novels. (There are some spoilers below so be warned)

However, there are two main issues that are really hard to get past.

  1. The update frequency is abysmal. Less than 20 chapters a year currently.
  2. Plot holes, big ones. (Essentially making the MC an idiot to move the plot forward)
I don't think I need to describe how such a slow update frequency is a huge turn off. There is basically no point in coming back to this novel until it is finished. Maybe when I am a great-grandparent I can finish it. But the plot holes in this novel consist mainly of contrived scenarios. Nie Li the main protagonist has been sent back in time after his death against the final boss or the whatever Emperor. This should give him an advantage over his nemesis and sometimes it does. However, the author neglects to mention how much the MC, who became the absolute second strongest being in existence, was so misinformed in his past life. He prances around like he knows everything but is amazed when he learns knew things that he should have been very aware of.

For example, the author introduces the concept of spiritual gods, beings who cultivated their understanding of the laws but not spiritual energy. But the MC has basically no knowledge of them or law energy from his past life, he only knows the runes that represent them. However, everyone and their grandmother seems to be using it in his current life. It is like saying you are perfectly fluent in a language but unable to understand what a single sentence means, just plain s*upid.

There are others that I could mention but this one grinds my gears. His most recent decision to break the barrier surrounding the weaker realms so he can go back early instead of waiting 5 years. He has just evaded the gaze of his nemesis through the death of his master (a second time, way to go future knowledge) and is in the clear to continue his growth safely along with his loved ones and allies. But he wants to do something that will attract every single enemy possible while destroying the only defense the weaker realms have against super powerful beings. All while the humanity of his world is so weak they were almost wiped out due to the weaker enemies already present. The shield that is actually stated to be able to stop the final boss as well. It is like lathering yourself in blood and running screaming through a zombie hoard just to get some food that could have been acquired safely a few days later as you already have enough supplies. He could have simply continued to cultivate and grow stronger along with his allies for a few more years (which is nothing to a cultivator, he should understand this from being super old in his memories). But instead chooses to place everyone and everything he cares about in danger just because he is impatient?

90% of this novel is great and I really want to read more, but I can't because there isn't any. The other 10% makes me question the intelligence of the author and is very frustrating. Some of the s*upidity would make sense if Nie Li was actually a child, but he isn't. The author gave him the backstory of being someone who survived among the cruel cultivator world until he rose to be capable of challenging the strongest being in existence. But what is written is an impatient child who doesn't understand basic things about how the world works to make the plot move forward. You would think that with a novel that is updated so slowly, there would be more thought put into the plot but there simply isn't.

In summary, I give it a 4/5. Most of it was enjoyable, unique, and interesting. I think it is worth the initial read. But be prepared to stub your toe repeatedly and be left unsatisfied. <<less

Stars are meaningless in this website, a lot of tr*sh are getting more than 4 while this lower even though comparing to them its way more better, its a balanced read in all aspects, with good story building that could keep you hooked. Most importantly for me it didn't contain much unreasonable angering moments witch mad drop most of the other novels. I just couldn't help it posting this review after I noticed this rating and negative reviews.

Good story telling, slow update, which each time new chapter come out, you just like huh??huhh? Who?? What again??, hahahaha I don't know about you, I have good memory, but too bad, let's say if there million of people like einstein have great IQ and great memory, even they forget the story that they read, basicly this is the most tr*sh-ish story ever telling.

Second thought

Spoiler

This has potential to become masterpiece novel, because of slow update. I bet the creator of this novel, taking his time finding clues, resources and make this beautiful story ever written, it will take time, I probably revisit again and read from chapter 1 till the end when this story is finished, but when this novel is finished? We don't know, in the future I might even forget about this novel existence. Too bad, I even regret it marathon this novel year ago. I guess I can warn you guys just don't read this novel if you don't like slow paced update, wait till the novel is finished, then you can read it freely. It's bad if you stuck in the middle of nowhere afterward wait like 10 years of nothingness, and still can't find the real answer to the story.

(my other thought : I will try visit each year to see if there any progresses on this novel or this novel getting ending and for now dropping is a good decision)

This is the best Cultivation based novel I have ever read... The story is superb innovative and the best part is that the leveling is explained perfectly along with the right amount of interest in the harem aspect ?... The characters are well rounded and the villians are truly villainous.... The world building is also brilliant...?? My imagination got a real boost reading this novel..✨✨✨✨. The reasoning for powers is astoundingly detailed... The only problem is that the author just slowed down the release frequency to 1 month which is... more>> terrible for true readers... Hence the bad reviews as people feel betrayed...?? I still give it my highest rating 4.7/5 ? <<less

I personally really liked the story. I learnt about Wuxia after following TDG from the manga to the web novel because I wanted to know more of the story.

The story is great and builds up quite well. The characters are well potrayed and the focus is not only on the MC, but also on his friends.

The bad thing about this novel would be the fact that the original author seems to have almost completely given up on this novel. At this point, there is a 1 chapter a month pace... more>> which is frankly ridiculous enough to make me want to stop reading the story. I have no idea whether he plans to finish it, but I really hope that he continues and finishes it properly and not with a sh*t ending that will spoil the rest of the story. <<less

It is great, if you don't mind a little harem and OP MC.

There are some inconsistencies, due to pacing and level promotion, I noticed but nothing major that affects the story. Though I wish it updates faster (from the author not translator). I read the raw at around 399 for almost a year now, and since then there has only been 46 chapters released. But I still enjoy it very much, though he needs to have some resolution for many things as well because as of now, they are left... more>> hanging. <<less

The whole novel can be summarized by this: "The MC is always right." If he scams another person, he is right and its the other person's fault that he got scammed. If he disrespects another person, it is because he is above them. If he does things, he is justified and others are not.

The world where the story happens is interesting and the cultivation system is okay. At first I had no problem with this story: the MC getting a second chance to prevent the destruction of his hometown and... more>> prevent the death of his loved ones. However, as the story progressed, the MC somehow becomes a bit too arrogant.

Spoiler

1. He barges on his target girl's courtyard and takes a bath in her tub without regard on the girl. The father gets angry but the MC still feels that what he did was right.
2. He treats the patriarch of his family like he is just a s*ave.
3. Treats the father of the girl as shit
4. The MC punishes someone for something that person hasnt done yet.

[collapse]

The main turnoff for me in this novel is the "Always Right" attitude of the MC. There are also other main characters from other novels that has this mentality however, Nie Li takes the arrogance factor one or two steps further. <<less

It's actually pretty good! Although he practically has an annoying personality that makes me want to punch, he's properly dedicated to his wiafu even if other girls find hot. He's true to his feelings and never says that his decision is the best but that he put more thought than others before making one due to his previous life. He's not unbeatable and doesn't pick fights for no reason, even if he hates someone he will plot against them while their not looking so that he can benefit from it.... more>> I really like the plot as well and it seems consistent while keeping everything interesting by putting little twists or funny situations. So this is a story about a guy who gets a second chance, who gets back into the past after being killed and than uses that experience and knowledge he gained in the first life to change the future of his second life and realise his goals.

What made me fall in love with the series is the fact the the MC, Nie Lie isn’t some honorable guy, or rather some s*upid guy who never gives up, but an arrogant genius who uses everything and everyone to realise his goals which... more>> is in my opinion pretty realistic. As reading the 160 chapters translated so far I give it a 2/5. The main character is op. That is all the 160 chapters consist of, a problem being solved in one easy shot by op MC. Everyone exists in the story to show how op and amazing the MC is. Every one in the story is flat as hell due to this, women only exist to love MC, friends only exist to be loyal to MC, enemies only exist to be scum to be trampled by MC. What I... more>> just stated is not bad in a novel, but when it is the only trait of the characters making them one dimensional it becomes pretty bad. Also additonally with most op MC the first few chapters are the MC solving every problem without a sweat, howevr they usually grow out of it to situations where fights give them problems. The past 160 chapters was basically in format of problem-> MC is genius-> every one says MC is amazing and give him face at the cost of their own. <<less

My first Xianxia novel, I used to love it so much and was greatly disappointed because the story plot kept on going downhill.

As a rebirth story in a wuxia world, I was kind of expected for the MC to be OP from all the knowledges he had obtained in his last life. What made this story enjoyable was Nie Li's loyal, generous, humorous, and down to earth towards his relatives and friends, but he would act low key, insidious, calculative, and ruthless towards his foes.

The story was slowly developing until... more>> Nie Li and Long Yuyin met Emperor Tian Yuan. Nie Li started mass producing, yeah that was precisely the words I wanted to use, he mass produced Dao of Dragon realm and Martial Ancestor realm experts like they were crops using the Godly elixir given by the emperor.

I lost most of my interest at this point but continued reading because I simply never dropped a novel. Well, I was forced to drop this one though because it had been on Hiatus for years. <<less
