The Legitimate Daughter Doesn’t Care!

There was a big scandal in the Mu family.

The real daughter of the Mu family was switched by the nanny since she was a child. The Mu family didn’t bring her back from countryside until 17 years later!

After the true daughter returned – There was no affection, only sympathy.

The Mu family parents asked her, “We have a deep relationship with Yaoyao. We can’t let her lose face. We can only announce you as an adopted daughter to the outside world. You won’t blame us, right?”

Her fiancé also said: “My fiancée can only be Yaoyao! Get out of here country bumpkin.”

The attitude of her older brother Mu Qingyi was even more complicated.

Yet despite all that, the real daughter, Xu Xinduo, said indifferently, “It doesn’t matter.”

***

From a young age Xu Xinduo could swap bodies with a certain teenager. That teenager would always exclaim in an annoyed tone, “Let’s switch bodies, I just don’t feel like taking piano lessons.”

Xu Xinduo helped the teenager to win various trophies, become a top student and honed his noble temperament and talent after taking over his body.

***

At a banquet, everyone in the Mu family watched as a rich young master strode towards Xu Xinduo and said, “Be my girlfriend, although you are from a small family… you are very beautiful.”

With a smile Xu Xinduo replied, “I’m starting to miss my parents already.”

Such a quick change of attitude?!

The romantic story of the indifferent real daughter x a filthy rich despotic young master

Note: Here “switching bodies” means swapping of souls. It’s temporary and doesn’t involve any physical changes.

I can't... why does the ML got all the praise n achievement that the FL made while using his body while all he does on her body was to fight around n mess up

ML aren't u too shameless to take the achievement of others? yes he take her body when she feels uncomfortable but that's it? can't u win a piano award? or any other awards? aren't u just a useless ML who shine cause FL got all those awards for u?

it bother me so much that everyone thought the... more>> FL doesn't hv any talent while in fact she's been receiving a lot of awards, I want her to shine too, I can't stand this story <<less

This story is quite good and I want to give 5 stars, but some aspects in this story disappoint me a lot.

Spoiler

I feel so bad to see the ML got praised for all the efforts that MC did when she is in the ML body. Like one of the reviewer said, it feels like "wife is seen but not heard". I hope whenever ML is in MC body, he doesn't only help to endure pain, but also help MC to gain glory.

Another aspects,

Spoiler

it is also disappointing to see the Mu family attitude in handling the problem. They can handle it better, but they don't. I can't bring myself to hate the female main villain because she is also the victim of what happens in the past.

Overall this story is still enjoyable and nice to read if you are looking for a story to kill time. <<less

Read all the translated chapters than read the mtl till chapter 62. It was going fine but after the events of chapter 62 I dropped this novel. I think the secondary female character is treated very unfairly and heavy-handedly, that s**ked all the entertainment of the novel.

Imagine you're Mu Qingyao, you're only seventeen and live a very hierarchical and sheltered life. And then you learn that your parents are not your parents and your brother is not your brother. You're the maids granddaughter, ergo you belong to a class of people reviled by pretty much everyone around you. Then the real daughter comes in and she is better than you for some inexplicable reason and now everyone picks your flaws against this girl who also derided at every turn because 'she's from the countryside'. You slowly lose every kindness given to you and at the end the person you've called 'dad' for your whole life beats you and don't even see you as a person.

I get Xu Xinduo suffered poor conditions and should be compensated but Mu Qingyao is not the villain and novels treatment of her bothers me so much. She is all but a child molded by a greedy father and a pushover mother, the decisions she makes are impulsive yes but also normal for someone in her position. But in the end she is condemned not just because of her actions but because everyone around her gave up on her and abused her, just for something she had no say in.

Maybe I'm expecting too much of a school novel, but the author says that the male and female leads can switch consciousnesses whenever they please, and they tell us:

"For many years now, Tong Yan and Xu Xinduo could swap bodies. In order not to be exposed, they made great efforts to cover it up."

And then, the first thing the male lead does when he swaps consciousnesses with the female lead is to act like a complete psychopath and completely out of character for her, suddenly threatening with property damage, lying... more>> about her classmates, then coming in and causing a great ruckus by acting like a complete hooligan, exactly the way he is and she isn't.

Author, in what way are they trying to cover anything up? The male lead clearly doesn't care at all if he's exposed, or what kind of first impression their classmates will have of the girl who is sitting his exams for him. It's frankly off-putting exactly because the author pretends that they are doing the exact opposite. It's not like there's any shortage of psychopatic male leads in Chinese novels, so if he were described as a hooligan and a loose cannon who doesn't really care about the female lead initially, it would have been much more reasonable behaviour. <<less

I'm finding this story really enjoyable, but it's in dire need of editing. It's a bit confusing because of this, but otherwise it's a great story.

The characters act in a way that lines up with their characters. Although, after reading so many of these types of novels, I start to wonder if this treatment towards those who grew up on the countryside a bit exaggerated...

But still, I love how the MC is the more overbearing one while the ML is just a spoiled, lazy, but good guy.

Ch 16-it got an... more>> editor, so it reads better now~ <<less

The premise is interesting but I can't read anymore after c65. It's boring and sometimes, cringey.
    • MC's indifference makes it disengaging and hard to get too into the plot.
    • Characters and interactions aren't that intriguing, sometimes even cringey.
    • ML seems to care a lot about the MC but does things that could get the MC in trouble when he's in MC's body.
    • They're supposed to be from affluent families yet sometimes act like gangsters.. And they're only like 16 or 17 y/o.
    • Spoiler

In that scene where the Mu Family's dealing with the maid who was responsible for the child swapping at birth, the son (Mu Qingyi) has more authority than the father.

      [collapse]
It's not that bad, I guess, just that the tone and mood used makes it really sound boring and doesn't make me feel eager to read the next chapters.

The reason why I rate this novel 5 stars is because there is a match between the age of the characters, the problems they face, and the way they deal with them.

The story is really have a very young vibe, and this novel successfully brought me back to my old school days, very enjoyable. The story itself is very light, there are no complicated and confusing plot twists.

Of course there are shortcomings such as the main character who is too OP and sometimes their support also acts unreasonably but that's... more>> okay because the story itself is still fun.

For me, the story itself doesn't focus too much on romance or face slapping, but more on teenage friendship and their school days, just read it and you may fall in love with it. <<less

It's an okay read, a typical brilliant step daughter pops up in family to humiliate everyone kinda story mixed with the plot of the movie 'your name'.

As usual for face slapping power fantasy, suffers from tendencies to have uninteresting antagonists behaving in nonsensical manner just so they can be brought down. Main characters and their side characters have pretty witty dialogue and interactions, but the FL's I can solve any problem because I'm intellectually and physically peerless until plot requires me to be weak and ML's I can solve any... more>> problem by being handsome and being a billionaire is a pretty overused and somewhat lazy theme. FL's thought process flip flopping constantly between I'm just using my real fam for the cash so idgaf about them, to why are everyone in my family being a jerk when the country girl they picked up is being low key rude boohoo behaviour is quite puzzling.

In summary, decently well written and witty face slapping power fantasy with a few fresh twist and the other parts being largely the same old, most glaringly lazy uninspiring 'villains' that are bad just for the sake of being a character to slap. <<less

Every time I'm reading a Chinese novel I'm so surprised how materialistic and kinda dumb they are:

The main characters are superior in everything and don't have any flaws beside their cold personalities.

Also there are always so many small things that just look dumb and hilarious to me like: "the dog was professionally trained, so it never leaves a space once ordered to stay." Like almost everyone gets their dogs professionally trained, but because they have money their dog is REALLY well trained. It's just hilarious.

When I'm reading thus stuff, I'm... more>> just questioning if the authors really believe that money solves all personal problems.

The story is good for what it is anyway. One of the few chinese novels which are not over the top. <<less

Imagine you are a 16 years old girl who's been pampered your whole life in a high social class family and then all the sudden, your parents is not yours anymore, you are born from a maid servant's house (your real mom probably wore a hat on your very dead real dad, your maternal grandmother swapped you with the real daughter and your real grandmother loves and care for the real one).

When the real daughter comes back and better than you in every way, I'd say that you'd feel desperate and compel to do some impulsive sh"t when you are at that age in that position.

In the end you lose all your position in the house as well as social status, all your friends ridicule you for being low born and vicious. Your pushed over mother who raised you for 16 years didn't do jack, you lost the love of your loving brother, and your father whom you known and love for your whole life didn't even treat you as a living person but just a tool to be used and hit you, you childhood-sweet heart which also your fiance cheated on and hit the sh't out of you. Not only that, but the almighty ML also take revenge on you for messing with the FL by dissing you online and in the social circle while also ordering people to F'CING SHOOT ARROW WITH LIQUID NITROGEN 50 TIMES ON YOUR BODY until it's blistered which would takes weeks to recover. I've seen people get frost burnt before, it would instantly kill your tissue and really harder to treat than regular burnt, to say that's no less hurt than being burnt is an understatement.

The 2nd FL is not good person, I'll tell you, but she or any person being is NOT deserved to be treated like this just because you were born wrong and did some childish pranks. Yes! pranks, most of the scheme is not lethal and border line despicable but not death deserving!!!

I quite like the story. Although concept is nothing new, MC is not your regular weeping lady who cries for not being accepted. I saw clear character growth in MC's mother, brother and even sister (father remained idiot till end).

ML is caring, mischievous and a big love idiot. Good thing is that he finally realized that he loved MC and peruse her with all his heart. ML's mother clearly wanted MC as her daughter in law (or should I say daughter?). According to her, if her son (ML) failed in... more>> his ordeal, she will adopt MC.

I also like how MC and ML's mother behave like real mother and daughter (as mentioned in synopsis, MC and ML could swap their souls so they knew their habits etc)

MC's friends are good and support her till end. They have their own issues which adds depth to them.

Cons: Family problems.

Overall, I enjoyed this novel. <<less

Actual rating was 3.5 stars out of 5.

First of all, I want to clarify some things that some readers may not have gathered from what they've read. The ML was generally against competing and going out of his way to compete on different occasion. He mentioned that he had everything he wanted and gaining recognition and admiration from other people was unnecessary for him and he find it bit annoying especially if he was not doing it, not that he can't do it by himself, he can, but he just... more>> don't see the need to. He's rich and a lot of people love him. Basically he has the MC which was the most important person in his life even of he didn't realize that he loves her, he treated her as the most important person of his life. The MC in the other hand has some serious inferiority complex that developed due to her circumstances especially seeing the life of the ML when they swapped bodies. She does not have parental love and her social conditions forbid her to do the things that she wanted. She wanted to excel but she can't. There was no resources in her hometown so she could only found it from ML's life.

So she wanted to compete to various competition even if its on the ML's body as it gave her some sense of satisfaction and achievement. I also have to emphasize that early on she already has some feelings with the ML and seeing there different circumstances made her even wanted to excel on things that she has control which was her talents. In order to do that, she can only do it with the MLs body. The ML only agrees because she wanted it and as she was a special person in his life, he will do anything for her, this was even before he realize her feelings for her. So let's stop saying it's unfair for the ML to get all the recognition when it's the MC's talent that was used. It's the MC's sole decision and she didn't even feel bad about it. She wanted to sooth her ego and she has selfish reasons for it. So how can that be his fault?

And for some people who says that the MC didn't even have the chance to showcase her talents and abilities, surely has never continued reading the book. The MC won many championships on the areas she's good at, mix martial arts, tennis, piano among others. She even become a famous model or star. How can that not be an achievements of her talents, and mind you she's always the top of her class? So why you say so?

Anyway, to the review itself. I'm probably writing this despite being more than 3/4 of the story because I feel like dropping this. Not that it's bad. It's just I think there's nothing more to look forward to as

Spoiler

as the main characters have already confess with each other and it's just a matter of time. The MLs mother even liked the MC to her daughter in law. I don't care about the MCs parents and the future conflicts I felt will be on the MCs parents engagement to the Shen family and with the ML's mother ex bf who has a little bit crazy on the head, I think the MC will be dragged with the conflict there. Which was not very interesting anyway.

Especially with the entertainment industry arc, it just don't feel good to me with all the schemes and backstabbing in that industry. I feel that it's only interesting if the MC was one of those scheming b*tches of an MC who knows how to take care of themselves in the industry.

[collapse]

All in all, it's a decent book and I really like how human the MC feels and act sometimes. She's tough and amazing but she's also emotional and not entirely a cold and lifeless character. I just feel that there's nothing more to expect so I am giving it up. <<less

Tl;dr: The author has problematic views, and the story is just not written well. At all.

I think what really gripped me is the way the author (as well as many other Chinese authors) explicitly states that people who are beautiful have the high moral ground and are just better. This is paraphrased, but Lou Xu (a side character) legitimately says, "Oh, the MC must be telling the truth because she's so pretty!", and "Oh, the MC is so beautiful they couldn't have done this!" Like, the only reason why they're... more>> listening to MC is that she's beautiful.

While it's true that bias toward beauty exists, it really isn't as exaggerated as this in real life. What's really concerning to me is that this novel's audience is targeted toward young adults, and they may subconsciously start to believe that by being beautiful they can get away with a lot of things.

As for a general review... it does even worse.

This novel couldn't even pull off the feel-good face-slapping part. It's just a poorly executed, cliche in a million ways wannabe novel. That might sound harsh, but I'm really tired of the classic switched sister-at-birth and subsequent green tea bit*h sister that leads to dog blood drama with the family. Don't forget about the brainless fans. Or the dumb annoying sister's fiance. Or that the MC is mary sue af and is cool, otherworldly beautiful, #1 academically, secret fighting master, great at some skill (in this case piano), talented, and just overall 100000000/10.

Just don't read it. Save yourself from reading 400+ chapters. <<less

At first, the title and body swapping tag made me hesitate to read this but I was wrong! This is a gem. I don't usually write comments and reviews but ignore the bad reviews. This novel is worth to try. The story is different from usual CNs and it's very refreshing especially when both of the leads are balanced not like the usual ML is the dominant one. Both of them are adjusting with each other. Just try it!

If you're bothered by some comments about the FL's hard work not being recognized, and the ML ending up owning the praise, then let me tell you that it's not an integral part of the story. Keep reading ahead and it'll be inadvertently addressed with the FL making a name for herself and the ML putting in the effort to be with the FL and keeping their achievements together.

I quite liked how the author handled the body swap thing as a conjugal property between the two leads, such that when... more>> they swap bodies, each treat it as their own person while occupying it.

The ML respected FL's desire to learn and explore things that her poor upbringing would never have afforded to her, even if it means faking and owning the 'genius/talented' persona that clearly he's not. He's a rambunctious boy who appreciates and takes advantage of the freedom that allowed him away from the pressure of a prestigious and wealthy family.

The FL has low self-esteem at the beginning and the cover of acting in someone else's identity allowed her the freedom to express herself and pursue her interests. It's a win-win situation for the both of them.

As a result of respecting each other's person, both strives to learn and imitate one another to keep their identities aligned. For example, the FL has a very weak and sickly body, but the ML likes riding motorcycles, fighting, playing sports and martial arts so she also learned it side by side with him.

The FL has a talent for playing the piano so even if he takes the achievements of winning competitions, he never was complacent and works hard to harness his own skills and match up to her.

Both leads have the same skills, and bonded together in learning and acquiring skills that I never met a webnovel couple as in tuned, natural, and tight as Tong Yan and Xu Xindou.

Swapping bodies are quite superficial and mostly serves as a plot point for most dramas and novels, but I like how the author explored it as childhood sweethearts growing up together, being each other's support and being so fluid with each other's gender.

I'm stopping at c391, as as much as the novel's deeper and realistic take on the characters motivation is the strongest appeal to the novel, that said, a bit of warning to the readers that it can be morally challenging and the characters intentions are quite questionable or the lack thereof. It's how the author handled the whole family drama thing that most of the times feels dragging or frustrating as
Spoiler

the "fake daughter", is being abused by the author as a plot point, especially when there's a lot of potential for character development. She's not a good person but she's not evil either. I disliked how she's being branded as "fake" when she's equally a victim herself.

Overall, I feel quite conflicted how readers justify the abuse Qingyao is getting as her bad karma. Given that she's done vile things and her lack of empathy had triggered a lot of people to feel that she deserves equal harm, I firmly believe that true justice is not enacting revenge and inflicting each other harm, but by doing the right thing.

As problematic as Qingyao is, I can say she's a product of society and is a result of negligence, lack of real parenting and guidance. She's a more humane version of a green tea b*tch, as whole her methods are despicable, she's mostly driven by self-preservation and overcompensation. That is not to say she's not excusable for her actions, but she doesn't deserve to be beaten/abused/neglected.

To keep it short, if you wish or do the same thing to those who harmed you, then you're not different from them. As much as people justify it, it doesn't sit well with me. Which is why I feel very conflicted when the ML orchestrated Qingyao to be attacked by a group of students and ostracized by them because she tampered with the FLs meds. The FL too for suggesting they harm her skin in a mild and less noticeable way. I'll admit it kept me from being immersed in their romance Bec I find it unsettling for a guy to harm another girl (even if they are so despicable) just to avenge or impress the girl they like. Shift the POV and he'll be no different from a love obsessed boy with grey morals.

[collapse]

I binge read the rest of the chapters so that I can get this over with, but there's no joy in forcing yourself to read when you're not appreciating it. I'll come back once I regain my interest, but I'm still very bothered with how Qingyao the swapped daughter is being treated and her fate written by the author while the real culprits which are the adults and the parents get no real punishment.

It's like venting and torturing the poisonous snake that bit and killed a person. It feels unethical and just wrong. <<less

It’s good, but the story was better back when they actually swapped bodies. Now they’re just dragging out this confession way too long.

p.s., minor nitpick, but how TF can Tong Yan play piano almost as good as Xu Xinduo? No way that’s true. Also felt bad for the “fake” daughter multiple times during the story. She needs better friends. And Therapy.
