The Marquis Yunyang was deposed by the Emperor and his family ended up in dire straits overnight. Great story in the narrative sense. It's an emotional rollercoaster that you can't help but to keep reading. The tension throughout parts of this story is so palpable as ML tries to solve the mysteries of his past and race against time to prevent the same tragedies from repeating. So many a time, it seems like his efforts are futile, and it can feel so gut wrenching. However, there's a ton of relationship red flags like abuse and grooming. The former is mostly dealt with in the narrative, the latter... more>> is not. It's also a story about redemption, so ML naturally starts out as a total shitbag and gets the golden halo by the end. In reality, he is not the type of person anyone should associate with in real life. He's sexist, classist, and has done some of the most intense mental jumping-through-hoops I've seen a male character do in a long while in order to justify his terrible behavior in his mind. But he's complicated, layered, and flawed, which makes him such a compelling character.

So if you can get past the bad and are able to separate fiction from reality, you'll find a beautifully complex story whose scope reaches beyond simply the romance between ML and FL. There is plenty of political intrigue to keep the plot moving, keeping things interesting even when the romance is pretty much resolved. What's more is that FL's sisters and their stories are also just as meaningful - I actually found them more endearing than FL and find their strength and sacrifice so admirable. <<less

FL is annoying with the way her mind works but I guess we cant help it considering the situation shes in. But goddamn the amount of misunderstandings is so annoying that I lose interest on reading it any further the only thing that kept me gg was the mystery of ML rebirth thats all

I am writing a review for the first time and this novel compelled me to write one. It was an awesome read for me. I mtled after ch 38 and it was understable through mtl. I liked elder shen jiao and zhen should couple more than the main couple. The translator is also doing a fantastic job but updates are kinda irregular.

All in all a good read 👍

Really wanted to read more. The extras were really awesome. Meh

I don’t want to say much but this josei is really good. I can read this over and over. All the male leads of the couples are worth writing their own book. If there was, I definitely read them too.

I really love this novel. It’s different from other rebirth stories and I like the fact that it’s from ML’s pov. And the character development is amazing.

I like this novel much more than the other one Pampered Consort’s Acting Awards. Found the flow was better, story was also better constructed. Male lead is initially very scummy. But as story progress, subtle changes in his behaviour makes him less scummy. This novel really describes well the corruption of the ML principle in order to achieve his love with FL. So focus of the novel is 100% on that. Bless the extras.

A pretty good novel, like a breeze of fresh air into this genre.

1) interesting hook introduction

2) compelling middle

3) satisfying conclusion

Not that hard to do, but so many novel fawk it up. The weakness of this novel is that there is not a central antagonist (s). While other novels tried so hard to extends that it create fillers, this novel misses many chances to expand.

Overall, short and good read.

What an amazing read. Book like this really deserves high rating. Some people out here giving 1star just because they don't like ML are a fool. They don't understand what a great story, plot and character development mean in novels, they just want that same cliche ML who loves FL blindly. If that's what you're searching for then please don't read this novel to just give 1star for author and translator's hard work. This book is more then that. This book shows how real Power struggle can be, it will... more>> make you loose your integrity and dignity for the survival. (Edit:FL is 16 y.o and ML is 23yo, 7 years gap which is agreeable for that time period. She is not 14. So reviewer "shooting star" should correct her mistake on that part.)

It was so sad to read the inner struggle of fl. She felt humiliated and abas**ent of her pride whenever she slept with ml. And of course she threw herself at him for the survival of her family and ML knows that he made her choose this life but refuse to admit it. I really have love-hate feeling for ml. But there is a character development for him and I love this kind of improvement in characters in the story. I tried to mtl this story but it's really hard to understand 😞. I just hope translator sama will update soon. And also I really love to read translator sama's small comment at the end of every chapter, it helps me dive more deeply into the story.

Also this book kind of reminds me of "captive in the dark" by CJ Roberts. I wouldn't say the Story is same but general idea of falling for your captor is same and the inner struggle of FL is similar too. If you want to check that book then I have to warn you its really dark. FL is kidnapped by ML for the purpose of training her as a s*ave to give her to his enemy so that he can kill him. But while training her he falls for her and like ML lu yan of this book he doesn't accept his feeling for her easily. At dark night he becomes her solace and treats her better but during daylight he treats her badly, he wants her to be good at art of seduction but at the same time really gets jealous whenever other male touch her. Story is really good with great writing and plot. It has 3 books and ending is HE. <<less

an almost perfect translation which succeeds because the translator conveys the meaning of the text rather then a literal translation which I salute! Thank u so much and im now caught as the ML strong feelings come to fore!!

Hmmm I dont really like it.

The focus is on the ML, he is annoying and the female lead is not energetic enough in my view. Mayber it will change as the story goes. I read it because of the high 4.6 rating but I'm not enjoying it.

I really really love this novel. They were both rebirth. ML rebirth quite rare in chinese novel. And I love POV from the ML. I feel his pain, his sadness, his longing and his love for FL. One of the best novel. I hope someone will finished to translate this. Because my brain hurt when I read the MTL vers.

ML was indeed a jerk at the beginning of the story. But he came around, admitted his mistakes and treated MC really well. There might be some angst. But rated this story 5/5 totally because of the extras. Like so many things missing in the story gets totally resolved in the extras with all happiness and positivity. Last extras of third world was really sweet and fluffy. Every couple got their happiness and fulfilled their past regrets.😍😍😍
