It's mediocre (read tr*sh) at best, and that's coming from someone who's read about 300 chapters. The dude goes to a certain area, shows off and get money from his streams and if he needs a certain skill card or item, the higher leveled players are like "What staggering talent and power! He mustn't join my enemies!" and proceeds to absolutely smother the MC with items and skill. I'm not exaggerating or anything. The MC sometimes falls into a dilemma because he doesn't have enough money (Har har har, Jesus... more>> Christ, can this cliche STOP? I'm Korean and I'm sick of it!) and then he'll get it from a company who wants to promote their brand (I'm half-convinced that the author himself was sponsored by a company as the same company comes out OVER AND OVER.) or as I mentioned above, the higher level players will be like "Incredible talent... and such money! Uh, This skill is literally worth millions of dollars but I need to give it to him to convince him to do something so incredibly insignificant that it won't appear again after a few chapters!" God please, can we stop? I hate the author, D-Dart, with a passion because he seems to the embodiment of cliches and everything I detest about webnovels. Maybe it's alright if he did it once or twice but HE DOES IT FOR F#$KING 300 CHAPTERS. And the last time I checked, it was over 400 chapters. I give up on this novel.

In short, novel is tr*sh, don't read it for your own sake.

This was my review, peace out <<less

It's actually good so far. Don't trust the first review, it is readable and you'll know who is talking to who unless you're not some newbie who needs the name of every character in their dialogues when it's only a 2 person conversation. It isn't the TL's fault and it's even a well known TL website. Another No, it doesn't have comedies at all and so is the author making the characters funny. It just isn't.

So far in the earlier chapters, we have the MC, a man who had encounter... more>> of countless of bad luck. He lost his career because of an accident which made his body not compatible in his chosen profession and made him quit. He turned to VR game, which is the greatest entertainment in the era, created and grinded his character for years so he can earn some income and provide his family. Then bad luck strikes again and made him despair, the pillar of hid family, but what if that very unfortunate luck is the greatest luck of all?

It has the realism, emotional stress, well-written dialouges and common sense where reasons about sci-fi things can be explained and not just some bunch of BS crump up together. So it kinda irks me when some noob diss a good novel that have a potential to grow and no, the characters doesn't have same names at all. It's true that some KR novel has same surnames since it's common in korea but for gods sake there's even less than 5 introduced characters and they don't have same names. <<less

I was interested with the story at first but damn this writting style is annoying af. Author wont say whats happening properly and instead likes to beat around the bush. That narration feels like author is telling a riddle than a story. It just made me pissed and annoyed. If you happen to be ok with the writting style then it might be interesting for you.

I love this novel

From what I can tell this novel breaks the shell of an MC that goes back in time to play a game and knows everything

Rather this novel is about the MC with a little cheat

Also I love how the MC is being low key and hides the cheat he has from others

Also really hope for a stable release for this novel

This is conflicting for me. The plot is good enough to rate it highly, however the skill of the author butchers any hope of this novel being a great read.

The plot is a novel twist on a generic trope- enough that it is entertaining and gives promise for a good read.

Grammatically, it is coherent enough for a smooth read.

There are many issues with the skill of the author, who skipped character development completely. You are thrust in and are not provided fluidity between plot and details. Because of this, you... more>> are pulled from immersion in the story, and are left confused in parts about what is happening. You don't get many details on the environment around the plotline. I don't have any idea what his house is like, I have no clue of the suburbs, education, appearance. I have no clue about any sort of location. Good authors would piece these snippets of information into their story whilst maintaining the plot in order to build the world of the novel. This doesn't happen and makes the world a confusing void of mess. <<less

Okay, let me break this down for you:

  1. The first third of every chapter starts with an explanation of how miserable the game is, that the MC is playing and how it is dependent on spending huge sums of money or sheer luck. Every. Damn. Chapter.
  2. Oh no! The MC needs a certain skill or an item to slay a monster or complete a quest! What's he going to do?! Oh, here you go, he gets it at the end of the chapter so he doesn't have to search for it the next chapter! WOW!
No, really, there is no hardship at all. Everything falls into the lap of the MC when he just so thinks about it.
  3. Every character, be it the MC or anyone else in the story are just empty husks without character, only existing to further the wish-fulfillment of the author.
I've read really, really shitty works before that I couldn't possibly confess to anyone on the internet, but this?
Waste of time, really. I'm quite bummed that I needed 56chapters before realising this.

I'm dropping it at 18 chapters because he has barely even played the game and when he does he describes it as the shitiest, most p2w game with a super toxic fan base. Tbf, it really might be the worst game, RNG everything and even when he gets a legendary class- LITERALLY nothing changes!?
The most annoying thing about this whole novel is, when he levels up he disregards 90 'normal rank cards' in exchange for picking 'fireball' a basic fire attack that is rank F, wtf were the 90... more>> cards he discarded to be worse than a basic rank F spell!?.!?

Also why is every Korean MC struggling to pay his damned bills, do people not have jobs in Korea? You either work for Samsung or are dirt poor until you make money in VRMMOs, is that how it is there?!

Also, it mentions baseball as if that has anything to do with it, it's barely even a sport, one which requires no thinking and no real physical effort. It would have made more sense if he worked in construction ffs.

Also, he doesn't make any money for ages despite how desperate he is?! Also, despite having 4 figures of money left in his account, he buys ice cream and then some medicine that cost 10, 000... that's 5 figures on the medicine alone, why do all Korean authors have such short attention spans.

edit: I read further up to Ch32, I would give this novel a negative score if I could. It's so bad I'm starting to think it's a translation error. One minute he spends 2 hours looking for a npc, the LITERAL next minute, he can see his quest markers globally!

His main motivation for playing is to make money but 32 chapters in he has hoarded every item, even ones that aren't that good AND not sold any information, even the tutorial stage ones.

His ONLY source of income is from an insurance scam hahaha, how is this not the worst novel ever written? <<less

so far this is pretty average for the genre; not great, but nothing stands out as really bad. If you like shallow gaming novels with a cheat you'll probably like it well enough. I will do a final rating once more has been translated.

also, that's sooo not what BJ means in my country.

Meh.

It's a below mediocre novel at best.

The characters are extremely shallow and not fleshed out.

The power system is crap even among all the gaming novels I read.

I suggest reading this with a light mentality, don't expect much from the novel, just read it for past-time if you don't have anything else to read.

The premise is definitely good, but the MCs is not. ... more>>
Spoiler

I mean, if I was playing the same game and find out that there's this guy who got a cheat where he sees all hidden info and doesn't need to care about the forking gacha but still see him complaining, Imma go hulk on him. Then ok, he started to stream because he wants to earn more money, he posed as someone loaded because he needs protection, why boast about being able to buy cars like they're tissue paper then act so humble about everything else? Be lowkey about your money man... the real rich ones don't boast about those cause to them its normal.

[collapse]

Spoiler

The MC is now one of the best players in the game and got kind of acquainted with the bigshots in the game, but there is no broadening of horizons, he's still that pathetic man that bows down to the people who give him money and treats them like god. For me that's not him being humble but him just being s*upid, no wonder he was mediocre shirt in his past account. I mean, you're working on the main quest that hasn't been discovered in 5yrs and have a cheat that allows you to get all these titles, you can also beat the records of guilds privately (while playing solo even), shouldn't you know that you're worth A LOT? that's common sense right?

[collapse]

Also, the misunderstanding is frustrating because the other characters in this game read the lines between the lines of the lines between the lines... <<less

It was really confusing to read due to random dialogues. They just cut in randomly each time and usually didn't correlate with the other paragraphs next to it. The prologue is even more confuaing as it is very different from the first chap. Basically the story is just really messed up from what I read

I read it first 10 months ago and quite liked it. It's a power fantasy where the protag goes from zero to hero without much difficulty. No much to think about.

I read it again now because of the new chapters. Sadly, the new chapters are all mtl which is a no for me.

But rereading the story, it was not as good as then. Thinking about it, it's the game.

Spoiler

The game seems not a good game to play at all for the lambda gamer. While the game is fun for the super lucky, the super rich or the protagonist with his game breaking ability, it's seem not fun at all to play for the lambda gamer. I'm a gamer and yet, personally, I would not like to play it at all. And yet the author goes on and on that it's a game with billion of players, that it suplemmented entertainement and sports, and that now the only way to win a salary is through the game. And frankly? I don't believe it. If I played the game at all, I would have ragequitted it quite early, as, I think, a lot of people.

It's very costly and very unfair to the gamer with lot of rng mechanics with a very, very low rate to get good results. It begins with the job in the selection character where you have to choose between 1000 hidden cards. The jobs are classed from normal to legendary. It's very explicitly stated that normal jobs are shitty jobs and with these, your gaming experience would be entirely spoiled. On those 1000 cards, more than 900 are normal, with a few rare, some unique, and maybe, MAYBE, one legendary. But you don't know that as it's hidden and once picked, the only way tho change the job, it's to begin the game anew. But, you have to pay and it costs ~700 $ per selection character!

Ok it's in the futur, with developped technology and all, and if it was only the once, I would have grumbled but played the game. But no. It's 700 $ per character selection with a unfair rng. Once the job obtained, you can't reset it. And the game is an immersive one. So a job can be imcompatible with you (ex: you gained a spear job but you have only praticed archery in real life). Thus the only way to get a good job is to be super lucky, super rich or the protag.

It's not a problem for the protag. He has that game breaking ability that let him see the hidden mechanics of the game. He can then bypass the rng aspect of the game to cherry pick the best prospect for his character. And yet, he still has to reset 19 times without selecting a job, before he can see a legendary card in the lot.

And that rng selection? It comes in nearly every aspects of the game. In the drops, that's normal. But all your abilities are rng hidden cards. If you don't have a good ability be it in quality or compatibility with your job, your character is screwed. It's the same for the reward of your quests.

So it's very rewarding to play for the protag. But for a lambda gamer? I don't like rng mechanics, and with how all the game is rng based, I would ragequit and never come back. You can sell or buy weapons/skills but because of their rarity, they are price gouging (ex: from 10000 dollars for a medium rated skill to 100k for a priced one or millions for legendary ones), not worth it.

Add to that a very toxic community of gamers with lot of pk, a non-presence of gm and the gambling aspect due to the rng, that is a game I would not play at all.

And that spoiled my rereading.

I wasn't gonna write a review but then some dude went super critical of this. My experience with this novel isn't much but I'll say this much. It has potential. There's the typical ploy of "I don't have enough money" but I'm fairly certain most people can relate to this feeling so including it in novels isn't negative. Furthermore, I've read a lot of cheat novels and his cheat, if nothing else, is delivered well. It provides actual information unlike others which are super vague which is something I can... more>> appreciate. I'm not gonna lie, is it the best novel I've ever read? No. Is it the best novel you will ever read? Probably not. But at the end of the day, if you found this then I'm a solid 60% positive that you weren't looking for the best novel you've ever read. Give it a shot, hate it or like it. <<less

I dont know if there was a side stories about it. It would be nice if it had.

For me, the ending was good. Because I continued reading it in MTL, the story was ruined because of changing names and wrong sentence and grammar. Well, it really need to crack your brain to adjust.

The story was kinda funny, well.., the MC was just a simple minded person, a simple guy got acquaintance by smart, business minded, and genius peoples. The the world/transactions got full of misunderstanding. Hahaha

Seriously, it was hilarious. Because... more>> of accident he live turns upside down.

I don't know why this novel got little ratings was it was good for anything fresh or refreshing to read. But if your into romance or any hardcore one, then don't expect anything from this. <<less

I'd rate this series a 7.4/10, it has its good parts and also bad parts, the earlier is awesome to me since it introduces you to the concept of the story and such, the middle chapters are kind of ok, I guess. I admit, the middle chapters does bore you since it's kind of repetitive and also sometimes the dumb mindset of the MC but c'mon nothing is perfect (except for my gf and my loved ones ofc), but trust me the ending is absolutely perfect, like abrupt but at... more>> the same time it's the perfect ending sort of stuff.

PS: I was listening to Lo-Fi music while reading this, so I don't if it was the Lo-Fi that made the ending so good or the ending itself. <<less

The Author's stories have a specific formula that creates a similar plot pace in two of their novels that I've read. It may be boring to some people, but since I'm one of those who enjoy such formula and am looking for it, I really like the story of BJ Archmage.

This story relies a lot on people's preference and moods. This is a satisfying read for me, but I also understand why it might be disliked by others. What I like the most about the story is the formula (which... more>> might also be your dealbreaker) that contains of:

Spoiler
  • fast-paced, linear plot: it was a step-by-step progress how the MC gained his powers, especially since everything can be structured with levels.
  • no romance: no romance--at all. None whatsoever. Nada. All the females are set up to be against the MC. He gets teased a lot for living a solo life (in real life and in game world)
  • comforting/wish-fulfillment/OP AF: as in, the MC will always come out on top, no matter what, so there really wasn't any lesson about hardship and all that. You can take comfort that the MC is invincible and just enjoy the ride.
  • straightforward ending: no fuss no muss is the motto of the story. The ending is also just as clean as the rest of the story. In a game setting, the MC faced the final boss and that was it (and gained a surprise gift for it). I was hoping for a more drawn out ending on his real life situation but the tease was good enough.
  • MC's interactions: is great--more specifically with his companions, colleagues and other important players. The viewers and MC has great chemistry too. His decisions and interactions that unintentionally made everyone danced in his palm were awesome too.
  • MC: I like that while MC was oblivious to the rising tension surrounding him, he was never a fool and it all boils down to how the characters view the game: the MC sees the game as it is. While it is a money-making platform for him, the game is also something he enjoyed as is to realize his dreams with common goals such as being the no 1 in the game. Most of the other characters consider a lot of things to play this game (as in using it as a business matter) so it also made sense they want to protect the status quo. The novel definitely has the misunderstanding trope to a T, MC thought everyone was enthusiastic in playing the games with him by creating rivalry, while the rivals were aiming to break his momentum and take him down a peg.
[collapse]

If you're currently looking for stories in the opposite with the above values, then you'd surely be disappointed with this novel. It is straightforward, in every sense. The plot drives the story, the characters barely develop, but it has a satisfying OPness if you want to read it in a carefree manner.

(my review is mostly the same with Kill The Hero because I am a sucker for this kind of stories) <<less

Before you read, I want you to understand what you would be getting into first. As of writing this there are 92 chapters translated and edited. These are done well. Cohesive, consistent, all in all readable. The rest of the chapters in this novel are MTL'd. Bad, unedited MTL. Pretty much the only consistency is on the MC's real name, his in-game followers' names, and other real korean names. In-game, classes, items, skills, so on and so forth, are very inconsistent and oftentimes difficult to understand. It is possible to... more>> read and mostly understand, with effort.

That aside, the story itself. Basically the concept is that the MC is playing a money grubbing VRMMO gacha game, except he can see what is in each skill or item card before selecting it, and hidden details on items, skills, quests, and so on. It's a decent story but nothing amazing. Like a 3.5/5, lowered to 3/5 coz mtl. <<less

Reading this story is like eating a plate of bad sweet and sour chicken to me. The sauce and vegetables (premise) are fine, however the batter on the chicken is so thick (constant interjection of extraneous info) that there is hardly any meat in each chapter. It makes it hard for me to immerse myself in the story since I have to peel the excess batter off (skim through the chapters.)

No I loved this but until the end I got really annoyed,

first it just full of monhun bosshunt, the PK only happen to that snake guild, I mean he got disturbed a lot I will be annoyed and just kill them...

and it become repetitive about the duel and the misunderstanding until the end with watton ugh..

... more>> and the hanging in the last chapter, I still tolerate it bcz there are 20 extra, but that extra still full of unecessary detail that should be done in a few chapter..

WHAT I WANT TO SEE IS THE REACTION TO WHO HE IS, I PAID FOR IT BUT IT'S ANOTHER HANGING.

EXCITED TO READ THE EXTRA JUST TO GET A FEW WORDS "I AM THE BJ MASTER" WITH HIS REAL FACE AND THEN THE END FCK...

i mean at least give a little relief, and it was 2 years gap for the extra just to give that bs that no diff from the main story...

like how his friend shocked, his brother or even azmo and merlin when they know who he is fck this made me angry for days.. <<less

I can only say that this novel is just so-so. You see it's very annoying that everytime you read every chapters he always talks about baseball and rants about the game (why can't the author just write about the game scenario itself??!) Though it's very funny how everyone misunderstands him being rich 🤧🤣
