As a precocious child, Lycoris suffers from a strange sense of deja vu. On the day her father told her about her fiancé, she realizes that her fiancé was a character from an otome game she once played in a previous life.

“I am the heroine’s rival from the game?

And in the bad ending, I get stabbed to death?

What a joke.”

A story in which the protagonist is determined to avoid a yandere situation.

For an otome game genre it was indeed a splendid work.

Mainly the MC. She had a very likeable character and unlike other novels where a reverse harem ensues and the ML's identity is debateable, this one made things clear right off the bat. Normally I would give it a 5 star, if not for the fact that there are 2 other otome novels that I like better than this one. So, I will settle with 4. : ( Anyways, I also like the 'heroine' Lily who is not a ''villainess masquerading... more>> as heroine". The supporting characters are also really likeable. But my most favorite aspect is that Wolfgang and Lycoris' relationship was properly fleshed out. It was also very heartwarming. Healthy friendship is very desirable in this type of novel rather than love rivals butting heads or jealous female peers. In short, it is worth the read if you're into this genre. <<less

Gonna start with a tldr: I love this novel and would absolutely recommend reading it even if you’re not a fan of Otome games or Yandere.

From a readers’ perspective I would give this story a 4.5/5

The only reason I remove any points is because personally I felt that for a story that’s centered on the Otome games genre (I mean, look at the title... ‘It Seems Like I Got Reincarnated Into The World of a Yandere Otome Game’), it lacks the general romance that... more>> would be brought about normally.

NORMALLY

Don’t get me wrong, there absolutely IS romance being portrayed, but I just felt that overall the story lacked it.
Spoiler

Namely between the MC and her fiancé Wolf, but they do get their time.

[collapse]

Otherwise the story is amazing, with proper characters, a good setting, and well placed story elements like the characters whom are actually Yanderes.

Now from a storywriter’s (as a hobby) perspective I would say this novel displays one of the better examples of catching and keeping a reader’s intrigue.

Spoiler

The setting has been well portrayed, but not enough for you to be able to guess what is coming next when reading it the first time around. The mystery is kept by withholding crucial information on the setting, such as what the limits to magic are, until it’s both necessary and relevant to the specific moment in the story. Of course world building elements are pointed out, such the existence of magic, but it’s not an information dump as it keeps it’s pace (though I got thrown through a loop at the beginning of the 3rd arc as it went from the MC being ~10 (2 years until starting magic school at 12), to her already being in her 6th year (so approximately ~18 y/o) which is quite the time skip without any specific warning. Not a big deal though, just me being an idiot?

So if you like yandere stories, you'll like this. If you don't like yandere, you may not like this. It has some yandere plot armor. The moment things start going well, a random curse pops out from nowhere from this dumb little bird and sets back up a yandere plot again filled with angsty relationships.

If you like yandere, that's good, but the rest of the elements of the story are pretty bare bones. Other than the harem, there's maybe five background characters who barely get a line or two. The... more>> magic is incredibly limited and our mc's magic power is "enhanced memory". There really isn't any world building unless it is a part of the plot. The MC has no useful skills from her past life, and she goes ahead and falls in love with the 6 yo ML even though he's clearly a serial killer. The entire thing is just a yandere story where the entire plot is defined early. <<less

It's different from other otome theme stories. It didn't have to use the readers hate against annoying characters, or sad tragedies to move it along. Every character was well portrayed. I usually don't like the "heroines" in these types of stories because they usually get in the way of the MC, but in the end of chapter 21 I really loved her. I would have to say, this is a really nice read, and I loved it. Also the translator did a fabulous job, and it flows amazingly.

Though it does... more>> say possive male lead, he's not overbearing (yet) which is nice. And the males are not drooling over the MC, so I would say it's pretty realistic. Just read it. <<less

I like this novel a lot. Been binge reading otome game novels since they started out, and I have to say this is one of the great ones. I'm not giving this a whole five stars because I feel like there's something missing in the storyline. Perhaps I want to see more of each character's growth before they start meeting the heroine? I'm not too sure lol. But still, this is a really good novel, though the translation only comes at least once a month (^◇^;)

The story is not bad but it's also not that good either. MC and ML are okay but they are not memorable enough. About MC and ML's love story, they relationship were decided since the beginning so there was no competition or love rival or something like that in this story. Well, ML was supposed to fall in love with the heroine and vice versa but it didn't happen of course because ML was devoted to MC and the heroine was more interested in MC.

I'm a bit disappointed with the... more>> ending though. I expect a wedding but sadly there is none. Even the side stories were so boring and made me decided to just skip it because anyhow, it didn't affet the main story. <<less

Cause I'm just in this chapter and I feel like I'm already reading thrill. 😩

Everything is unexpected okay. Gracious!

It was a fun read. I enjoyed it. If you're looking for something that's not deep then this one might work for you.

I got interested at the first part because I'm not used to yandere chara (although honestly I find it mild here) . However I wished FL (female lead) had more moments with ML (male lead). I find it lacking in that part. I was anticipating for more fluff.

It’s a 3.5, made 4 as the translation is nice. : Many thanks !

Short but pleasant story, the memories from the past life is not too burdensome, it’s not too deep, it’s rather short in lots of places but it’s also gentle enough with q bit of depth in the emotions department :)

For a story about yandere male leads, there sure don't seem to be a lot of them in this story. It's really only the final boss, isn't it? Even Art is just kind of bratty.

It comes as a pleasant surprise to me to see that the actual love interest is significantly less controlling than I've come to dread from many stories of this type. Lately it's like any time I see a story and think 'I sure hope THIS one isn't the love interest. Everyone else is fine, he's such... more>> a controlling and manipulative tool' then it turns out that THAT one absolutely is the love interest. However, Wolf is kind and supportive and his only trace of jealousy comes early in the story.

Lily was much better than I'd been expecting as well. Don't get me wrong, I almost always like the heroine character in the villainess isekai when they're proper heroines and not the villain of the story. I just don't expect them to be complex characters in their own right. Actually, I kind of wish that 'Lycoris and Lily become lovers' joke near the end was real because the two of them have a great relationship.

As far as criticism goes, I suppose the main problem is that it doesn't do much to stand out from the pack. Lycoris is more sensible and level headed than most girls in her position but it doesn't change things significantly. <<less

Strongly recommended.

All characters, though some were not mentioned much, are likeable. I love the way the author get inspiration for their characters' names and descriptions.

The storytelling was charming and nicely led in a decent pace from the beginning to warp-up. The extras were short and cute.

The translation was splendid.

Spoiler

I wish there were more arcs about their life after graduating the Magic Academy though.

Not gonna lie, this is a surprisingly good read. Other than the fact that this is an otome game from the girls pov (usually reading the guys pov) I can't really fault it too much. The yandere part isn't as pronounced as you would think or maybe thats the authors way of saying the protag had cleverly avoided all the flags properly. Theres proper explanations for things slowly as the story progresses. The only flaw yet also a bonus at the same time is that the author really time... more>> skips quickly over the years and doesn't drag on the story for too long. <<less

This is the first time that I have a reviewed something on so forgive me if not great at it. At first I was hesitant to read but I don't regret reading it.

The characters in my had were not dull even some of the ones who didn't have many scenes in the story. There were not many characters that was really hate able, just maybe 3, I feel in love all them. I even liked the Lily who I expected I would dislike.

The story was great though there were some... more>> slowness in some parts of the story but I didn't mind it like I usually would. It a refreshing story from what I usually stories that I read.

well that is all for my review before I leave I would like to thank the author and the translator ('s). <<less

I have a special weakness for "reincarnation" stories. Ones with good female protagonists are pretty rare to boot. I was pleasantly surprised by how well written, translated, and adorable this story ended up being. I love every character whole heartedly, even Art (who is by far the most annoying one out of the lot). The author is a freakin' genius and I wish their work would be officially brought state-side. I'd pay money for it. And why isn't this in manga already? Reincarnation stories that aren't even half as good... more>> get one, so why isn't there one for this?? Where's my anime too?? I'm deeply dissatisfied that this isn't more popular than it is---but that's my luck. Anything I like is never something that gets the love it deserves.

Sorry, I went off on a tangent there. Just read it. It's funny, cute, and will leave you smiling. <<less

This novel was surprisingly cute. I was put off by the "yandere" in the title, but thankfully there wasn't much of that. The MC and the ML were both very cute, though I wish they had more romantic scenes together. I also liked that it kind of explained how the MC was changing everyone around her.

I gave it a 4/5 rating because I lost interest after one of the major events happened. However, depending on how the story continues, I might change my rating.

I like this, I think this is cute. Though I cringe every time it mention yandere. I think the author doesn't know what yandere is. Yandere is affection, obsession and possession to the point of homicidal even toward the object of affection... which none of the characters are like that.

Definitely a five stars candidate. At first I thought it's going to be a slice of life school life with romance blabla —WRONG, and that Yandere part is totally right, yet not like what you think.

At first it was the typical easy-going "you are mine and mine only" yandere, but once you reach vol 3 it turns into psychopathic "I will make you mine at all cost" yangire... which is pretty f**ked up.

Story is good, but to me it was kind of a drag. And there were times when I couldn't figure out who was speaking in the novel.

I don't think I will be reading this novel again even though I'm giving it a 4 star.

EDIT (dec. 22, 2017) :

... more>> It seems that I've read this before but I don't remember what happen...... Did I even read this??

Well, I guess I'm gonna have to read this again cause I don't remember this novel..... Maybe I wrote the first review for a different novel but accidentally wrote it here......

EDIT (dec. 23, 2017) :

So I reread and finally remember that I did read this.

Note to self:

This novel is the one were MC and ML gets trapped in their nightmare for a while. <<less

Each character is portrayed fairly well in this novel, with all characters that do "flock to Lycoris" having their own stories to tell. Even if some of the stories are not shown until later, the MC is shown to be rather caring of those around her and is not oblivious to their feelings.

I especially like the interaction between Wolf and Lycoris uwu They are such a well paired couple that is able to understand each other and be able to rely on the other no matter the circumstances.

This novel is... more>> one of the few otome-game ones that doesn't feel like it's just going through the scenarios. It is interesting in the sense that the stories drag you in down to the perspective of the characters. Also bonus points for it not to be a generic run through of something the MC already knows the ending of. <<less
