What if My Brother is Too Good?

In the novel “Forced Love”, the female supporting character Huo Wu was a fake princess who had occupied someone else’s position for 18 years.

And everything she possessed should have belonged to the female lead.

After an accident, Huo Wu’s real identity was completely exposed.

She and the female lead returned to their respective places but she was still regarded by the female lead as a nail in her eye and a thorn in her flesh and ultimately came to a miserable end.

After Huo Wu, a small 18th line celebrity transmigrated into the character of the same name in the book, she shivered.

The female lead’s fighting abilities are too strong, she really can’t afford to offend her.

In order to avoid the ending in the book, she held on tightly to her “brother’s” thigh in order to seek protection.

His golden thighs were exceptionally strong and this top rated “brother” was powerful to the point where there was nothing he couldn’t do.

But…

How come she isn’t allowed to let go after holding onto him?

QAQ

Huo Wu blinked her eyes, “Wouldn’t it be good if you were really my brother?”

Huo Yu Sen faintly refused, “No, I just want to be your man.”

My brother is too good to me, what should I do?

What else can you do? Of course you should be together.

I don’t get why there are so many negative reviews for this novel. I thought it was a sweet story.
Spoiler

Maybe I’m biased because I’m not a fan of love triangles, but I like stories like this one where the two leads only have eyes for each other.

[collapse]
I also like that the MC doesn’t make dumb decisions but knows how precarious her situation is from the beginning and takes steps to prepare. Overall, it’s a story I will undoubtedly read multiple times.

The writing in this is too... early-amateur-wattpad-style.

The narration pretty much feels like a self inserted Mary Sue type of MC and there's a lot of tell instead of showing through situations or our own deduction.

The author explains every reason the MC does something, just to make sure we readers know that she's pure, naive but intelligent and talented actress, that had a sad life. And the reason why she sometimes acts jealous or childish is because she's got a really hard life before receiving all this pampering, so that explains... more>> why she is still good and nice although she has some selfish thoughts.

Too much unnecessary telling:

"I could act to hide my feelings, because I'm good at acting since I was an actress for so long and I could always mask my true self, but I decided to be true to my feelings because I want the ML to know me and that I feel sad"

Like ok? No need to tell me you're the best but underrated actress out there because you want to show the ML how you feel and be a sincere white lotus...

The story is pretty much a cliché I like to read a lot but the plot has lots of tiny holes and some parts are rushed, not well thought or purposeless, just for the typical FL and ML (or 2nd ML) situations to develop.

Spoiler

She literally went to shopping with the guy (2nd ML) that is a douche and was involved with a car accident and got her hurt, just 5 minutes ago, to buy the ML a gift. And later on she doesn't even gives the gift because she forgets and later on she saw something on the MLs room that might be a better gift so she takes away that gift, never to see the light again.

[collapse]

So all in all, it felt ridiculous at some moments. While some parts are enjoyable and entertaining. Hence the 2 stars (or more like 1.5)

And I don't like how the MC says she's skilled and can act tough but the majority of her sides is just herself acting weak and in need of protection from ML every single time.

If you read this novel, you gotta just shut off your brain and lower expectations so you can enjoy the novel, since it has some entertaining parts you might enjoy.

Gotta highlight that there's also a really weird line of how the relationship is dangling in the in*est side because of how MC wants to treat ML as a brother and the ML is trying to be a good brother for her although he isn't sure how to. But they don't spend their time too often to develop sibling feelings? So they have this slow development.

Overall, a weak novel and writing.

Translation is nice and easy.

So if I ever finish this novel, it will be because of the TL made it nicely. <<less

I only started, so I'll probably update this, but with how there are entire chapters (!) (chapters, Karl!) about perfect looks of ML and MC, it really feels like author was typing their descriptions with only one hand while the other was busy down their pants.

Tbh it's kinda nauseating to read such an unabashed fangirling.

We get it. They're pretty. Can we get to the plot now, please?

Update:

Wow, there's really nothing to read in here other than descriptions of how perfect impeccable ideal MC and her future husband look, and ten paragraphs of how MC washed herself, dried her hair, used her skincare and got to bed. Hard pass. <<less

A light read that you can finish in a day or two. It's a very straightforward story. FL's goal is to avoid an unfortunate ending by sticking to her "brother" and that's it. There isn't much of a character development but the romance is fast paced. This is not a face-slapping/revenge type of novel. Many characters or side stories are left hanging and the ending was abrupt.

Basically, this novel is a fast paced, nonsensical romance with little obstacles and an antagonist with a weak presence.

This novel is fine. But it's a bit boring. I have mixed feelings towards the FL. She was strong in her past life but weak now. She is now more weak, dense, and spoiled. The thing I'm most interested in was the showbiz element. But they barely put it in. The writing is a bit slow. Like the author would overly describe scenes and every action the characters make. The ML is okay. The only reason I would even continue reading is just for the showbiz. This is all my... more>> opinion. <<less

fathers in the story such losers? Does the author have a beef with father figures??

[collapse]

Once the FL is reunited with her family, the conflict fizzled and the climax was anticlimactic.

Spoiler

They just shipped HYQ off to America, and that was it? Lazy writing.

[collapse]

As a result, the ending was too cliche and so cringe-worthy that I skimmed the last 2 chapters to hurry through it.

Spoiler

The author clearly has little experience with movie award season and watching the Oscars. First, movies are submitted to various awards BEFORE the Oscars, so there's no way it's her first award ceremony. Plus, Best Actress isn't the last award given! That's gone to Best Picture for nearly 50 years. But, her award speech took the cake. I can't even imagine someone proposing to their "brother" on stage during their 30-second Oscar award speech. Rather than applause, I could only imagine the gasps and awkwardness during that scene. Ugh!!!

Since the ending was wrapped up pretty quickly, I won't take off another star.

4/5 pretty good, but disappointing ending <<less

The romance part of the story is really good. The romance was exciting and made me "teehee" many times. It's not a cringe type of romance at all. The ML is basically the perfect indifferent type of CEO ML who warms up to the FL. He was abroad for majority of his life so he barely knew the FL even before she became a different person.

On another note, while I was rooting for the FL, I understood why the actual daughter wanted her gone from the house. While the feeling... more>> is understandable, I don't agree with how the real daughter tried to deal with the fake daughter. The story's trajectory really changed from the original and focused more on our current FL and omnipotent brother. It's a nice romance story that will keep you excited! I'm just a bit disappointed how the former FL barely did any damage to the FL. However, the plot twist at the end redeemed the lack of justice for the former ML.

I'm giving this a 4 star, because I was not satisfied with how the author executed the ending. <<less

A lighthearted read. The FL is nice and cute. Her interaction with the ML is adorable too. The relationship build up phase is enjoyable to read.

The novel is short and some characters weren't explored much so it felt a bit lacking. The ending felt a bit rushed too.

All in all, its an ok read - good to pass time with.

MTL is easy to understand.

I don’t do reviews but this story has truly ignited somethin within me.

first off, she came into the world okay, somewhat. She attempts to curry favor with her “elder brother” in hopes that he can help her once the Og FL comes back to which I’m like “yea okay, generic”

Omg it goes beyond that. I understand she’s not his real sister but the role she played is still HIS SISTER and there were many instances where she be like “oh he hawt, hawt this, hawt that”

same goes for the brother,... more>> his thoughts towards her through out the story made me side eye him, HARD

what makes me mad is that through out the story, the MC showed no redeeming qualities, barely displayed her skills as an actor, basically jumped from one prosperous family to another after the OG FL came back and it was just all over the place. Honestly the word brother in this was so overused it came to the point where I couldn’t differentiate if it was an appoint of sibling hood or an act of suggestive se*ual misconduct.

And not only did she have no redeeming qualities (aside from her beauty 🙄) barely displayed any signs of capabilities, she is also an awful friend!

She constantly blew off her best friend to cling on to the ML and not only reject but even ditched her on many occasions cause she just didn’t feel like it after some event takes place. Like TWICE she tried driving to bff only to get into a car crash and then end up not going, might as well have not made it a third time bruh. In the end she continued to be a bootlicking MC/FL who can only cry beautiful tears to save herself.

not only that but the MLs thoughts towards her high key made me nauseous. She was not only a minor and In his view sorta like a kid but he could still grow “desires” for her and even said he was going to suppress it but no, that’s not what happened.

come near the 210th chapter they’re just now getting together but it just doesn’t feel well paced nor natural at all!

not to mention the second ML which is the OG ML also fell for her but there was barely any build up to that aside from the constant “oh come eat out with me”. In short they had no chemistry and he still fell for her cause the ML carried her with such high regards that she “caught his interests”.

FL - actor who barely acts, has great luck in games and such but can’t win a lottery in her past life to save herself nor climb up social ranks, a damsel in distress, most likely would not have the intel of her school life if not for her bff cause it didn’t really even highlight her school life but just the problems that she has with people in it like really..

ML - supposedly hotter than the Og ML cause the author just loved him soooooooooooo much like just marry him then dang it. He’s a generic cold to others but not the the FL type of dude, I see more capabilities in him than the FL, he was literally what gave the FL the opportunity to act, FL did not grasp and achieve it herself.

OG ML - a character of conveniency at this point. Kinda there to just be the love rival with no Rhyme or reason. His character is flat but is known to be soooo promiscuous but changes for the FL cause he claims she “bewitched him” after a HANDFUL of contacts like 🤦‍♀️

best friend - literally also a charater of conveniency. Honestly she deserves better friends that don’t just use her or ditch her because they feel she isn’t as of importance. In my opinion she was what made FLs settlement in the world more solidified if that makes sense. Literally just there to be used and abandoned

OG FL - barely get much about her aside from the shows she plays in. She’s no better than the FL and also seems to have no brain cells, quick to anger for no reason and accuses the FL of stealing her spot as Huos family princess like bruh, y’all literally got switched as babies, what’d u want her to do? Tf??

overall, just poorly written, no world building, sweet home Alabama, and no character improvement either.

would not recommend. <<less

The novel is allright, but I found it rather boring. I rushed through the last chapters because I wanted to finish it asap.

I felt that author wanted to finish story fast at a certain moment. The ending feels very rushed. MC finds her real family and you barely get to see anything from them and Mo Ze (ML from the original novel) towards the end.

Short recap

Spoiler

MC decides to stay in the Huo family and try to grab the golden thigh of her brother (ML), to hopefully make things easier for her when the real daughter is found. This although she knows that the real daughter is struggling with her finances and left school to start working.

This doesn't mean that the real daughter is sweet. She is the antagonist of the story and arranged for the original daughter to be kidnapped and sold into the mountains in their previous life cq original novel. She couldn't stand that MC lived a life of luxury for 18 years while she lived I poverty.

MC partially wants to stay longer with the Huo family to get some protection from the brother when the real brother is found.

The ending

Spoiler

The Gu family finds her and tells her that she belongs with their family. They welcome her with open arms. Her mother, who was 16 at the time, abandoned her because she didn't know what to do with her. She's had mental problems since.

ML arranges for a great script to be written for MC and she wins an oscar for this movie for best actress. In an afterword you find out that MC is Mo Ze's half sister. They share the same father. He has found himself a girlfriend who looks a lot like MC. We don't find out what further happens with her mother. Does her mother get better? We hardly see anything from the Gu family.

And MC's big dream was to go to university and make new friends there. We don't see any of that.

This is one of the story that makes me want to rant so much. Although this is one of my favorite genre, I still have many dissatisfactions towards this story.

Spoiler
    • MC was so unlikable. She was a strong and independent woman in her last life so why did she become a fragile, weak, and spoiled woman after her transmigration? I know she did that to "hug ML's thigh" but when it was done excessively, it'll become unsightly and annoying.
    • I myself have a brother but I feel uncomfortable when reading about MC's intimate action towards ML (when she still wanted ML to be her brother). Her action wasn't like the sister's affection towards her brother but more like a girl flirted with a man. No wonder ML couldn't stand it and fell in love with her. If they're really siblings, wouldn't they end up committing ince*t in the end?
    • MC's action to prevent her family to find the truth about Jiang Yuqin was also a bit irritating. Although Jiang Yuqin wasn't a good person, she was still the rightful daughter of Huo family. And ML was no better from MC. No matter what, Jiang Yuqin was her biological sister who lived a hard life for all these years outside but he chose to bury the truth for the sake of MC.
    • After the truth was exposed, it turned out MC came from a rich family (namely Gu family). MC didn't hesitate to go back to Gu family after her biological grandfather told her the truth. It was unlike when MC still thought that the sweeper couple was her parent. At that time, she still stubbornly stayed at Huo family and didn't meet her supposed biological parent after a long time has passed.
    • Poor Mo Ze. I don't think he deserved to end up with MC's substitute instead of being trully fall in love and live happily. And the author still didn't think that it was cruel enough and made MC Mo Ze' half sister.
    • Speaking of MC's biological dad aka Mo Ze's dad, I'm surprised that he was still fine after making MC's mom turned like that. Wasn't Gu family was one of the powerful family? Why they didn't do anything to Mo Ze's dad all these years? It's really infuriating because Mo Ze's dad still lived happily and unrestrainedly while MC mom's life was basically destroyed.
    • Where was MC's pets. They're not mentioned again after MC moving out from Huo family.
    • I wish to see more of MC and Jiang Yuqin's confrontation after they reinstated their original identity. Jiang Yuqin was supposed to be a strong opponent but she barely made any wave to make MC suffered and then she just left aboard quietly after ML and MC published their relationship.
    • The story was a bit too fast-paced. So many details were omitted from the story like MC's campus life and also her life in entertainment cycle. Even the ending was a bit abrupt although it was supposed to be a happy ending.

This wn is the modern CN version of a tr*shy romance novel. (Was going to say Harlequin romance, but it doesn't actually follow the formula.) It's a good read if you're looking for something brainless to pass the time, but it has a lot of issues. I can ignore most of them since I'm MTLing and most stuff is awkwardly worded anyway, but they're definitely things people should keep in mind before reading:

  • The most important thing to most people will probably be that the FL is a straight up inconsistent Mary Sue. The author tries to write her as a pure innocent white lotus, but she just comes across as a whiny green tea b*tch. She falls under the same situation as villainess POV FLs, where if you like her then you can ignore all the faults in her writing, but if you don't like her you will probably be angered into dropping.
  • The MLs are a hit or miss based on your tastes. The actual ML has a little more character than the standard "cold CEO", but he still has barely any personality and is pretty much the standard overbearing, excellent CEO stereotype. The original ML starts out as a scumbag and I nearly quit reading entirely because his interactions with the FL is infuriating. He gets better later on, and I actually feel like he could've been a better match as an ML than the brother.
  • The "romance between fake siblings" plot is executed really awkwardly. The story tries to do both a "couple who meet for the first time have s*xual tension" and a "siblings separated for a long time finally meet and develop their siblinghood" story, but doesn't commit to either of them, so it just ends up being really awkward.
  • The showbiz aspect is also done pretty poorly, but it's directly related to how the FL is written as such a Mary Sue. So if you like the FL, her constant easy success and the inconsistency between her previous life career and her current skills will probably not bother you much.
  • The dogblood is unsatisfying, both from a logical perspective and a drama-lover's perspective. Confrontations are awkward, s*upid, or too quick.
If you can ignore all of the issues, or if these issues are more like benefits to you, then this might be the story for you. But in general, I think it definitely deserves its rating.

Very shallow characters and rushed story. This could have been a really good story if the author writing was more mature. Quick read, skimmed the last few chapters and the "twist" about her origins was obvious. Wouldn't recommend as a great read but of you're bored with nothing else, it will do.

A good example was how the extras would think of them as a 'couple'.

[collapse]

I agree with Skite. The portrayal of the relationship between siblings were not really sibling-like since she was setting them up like so. It would have been better if there was a long build up between them. There were a couple of hiccups with regards to the plot but everything was a light read. The characters on the other hand appeared a little 2D for my taste. Like our OG!ML for instance, the only understanding I can get from him was the surface. He's a douche bag that somehow changed for the better after meeting our FL three times. Same with the OG!FL. I don't really know much about her and most of my impression came from the FL's 'recollection' of the story. It would be nice if the author could also talk about that.

I'm giving this a 4 since it's not too bad but not comparable to the good ones either.

(PS. I don't see the 'please read this translation at *insert site name*' that Pavetta mentioned. They already removed it maybe?) <<less

First things first, I want to say that my review is entirely based on my personal opinion; I’m not trying to be objective at all. If this story appeals to you, read it first before making your own judgement. What I find “meh” could be received differently for you.

With that being said, I won’t beat around the bush. It’s not the best story out there. In all honesty, this story really had a lot of potential in the beginning, but it really missed the mark as it got closer to... more>> the end.

Without going into major details, it was far too rushed. There were a couple of loose ends that were “tied” but could’ve been expanded on. Some characters kinda just... disappeared after they served their role in the story. Alternatively, those that should’ve disappeared... didn’t. I was at least hoping to see their children in the end but all I got was a very Mary Sue ending. Kinda fitting for this type of story.

There isn’t much to say about the female lead. I neither love her nor hate her. However, it’s clear that the Author really wanted a FL (female lead) that’s equal parts helpless and resourceful. She’s definitely the type who needs her hand to be held. The ML (male lead) is just as much as a Gary Stu as the novel depicted him, so there’s not much to say about him either. Relationships in general are a complete mess. There’s also not a lot of logic happening in a few instances.

TL;DR: Overall, I judge whether I liked or disliked a story by if I’d be willing to read it again. Would I be willing to read this story again? Probably not. It was a good one to pass the time, but I can’t see myself craving to read this story again in the future. <<less
