Ruan Xi was reading a novel with a laid-back female protagonist at her own leisure. When she woke up again, she had transmigrated into the book and became the female supporting character with a good life, Ruan Xi, of whom the female protagonist envied.

In the story, the character Ruan Xi was the replacement for the engagement that had fallen through because her transmigrated, legitimate older sister had abandoned her fiancé from a rich family. Later, Ruan Xi was pampered to the heavens by her husband and became the winner in life as an imperially mandated first-rank wife to an official.

Ruan Xi, who had transmigrated over, watched as her transmigrated legitimate older sister prepared for that marriage happily. Similarly, her legitimate mother had also decided on another marriage agreement for her.

Ruan Xi: “……”

Years later, after the sister is suffering from her husband’s family, she came to Ruan Xi to see her struggling with misery. When she stood at the door of Ruan Xi’s house, she watched the cold and violent man in her previous life hold her in the palm of his hand with all kinds of wealth and love.

Although the title isn like that our MC do things within her own strength to evade/punish villains. Her legitimate sister [reborn FL of the novel] is really irritating haha. Well even in real life some people are like that. ML is witty and pampers MC. Side characters are not too much 2d and gives life to the story. There are twist&turns from the original novel story to the current story. So it was a nice read of ancient romance novel with transmigrations, Rebirth etc. Our FL is intelligent and breezes... more>> thru palace/schemes ^^ <<less

I got to chapter 49 before dropping.

I think the story is well written and the main character was likable (as well as the ML, I liked that he wasn't the standard cold or domineering type).

On the other hand, it feels like the story is more sentere around the villain Sister and all her s*upid action. It is basically all about her setting herself up for failure.

It felt a bit weird that both MC and the antagonist were Transmigrator's (instead of just reincarnators). While some things make sense, I still feel... more>> that the antagonist seems a bit too s*upid and reccless to be both a reincarnators and a previous modern person while the MC seems a bit too much like a traditional person to be a modern person (she seems more like a reincarnators tbh). She is more careful and composed because she is smart and has the memories of the original body, but with the Male Lead she really seems like a bashful traditional young miss. Blushing at the smallest action. Usually I forget that she is actually a transmigrated modern person and I felt it would be more natural if she was just reborn (but I also get that thos wouldn't work with the plot if she was actually the original with memories of her last life with the other guy).

In general it was an good story that alternates between the villain making a fool out of herself and the MC and ML having sweet moment, but it also feels a bit bland with not much happening outside of that. <<less

Hello, this is the translator here~

Firstly, a clarification about the summary: the summary was... literally written that way, and I have no way of changing something set in stone.

However, to give a better description, this novel has a decently-paced narrative that is more focused on the life of Ruan Xi (our female lead) after she has transmigrated to the ancient times, and how she adapts and thrives in her given circumstances. There is family drama and other melodramas typical of such novels, there are incredibly sweet moments between Ruan Xi... more>> and Wen Ting Zhou (the male lead and her future husband) through their courtship and eventual marriage, and interesting interactions between the various characters, since there are three transmigrators present within the story itself - namely, Ruan Xi, her older sister, and the original book protagonist. Through Ruan Xi, we get to see the different routes that all three of these transmigrators take, and how their actions affect those around them.

Though I will emphasise that this novel is a laid-back novel in general. There are slight bumps along the road for Ruan Xi, but those conflicts do not last for a long time. It's just a light-hearted read that is good for passing your time, while getting a few smiles in.

Sincerely, I hope you will enjoy the novel, as I am invested to translate it to the end! :)) <<less

The best way to describe this would be standard.

Featuring a seemingly sensible MC that ends up being another bland, perfect girl and her loyal-handsome-flawless ML and having every problem they face resolved in the next paragraph except for one of the flattest villains I've read to date (because if they just offed her too soon there would be practically nothing in MC's way, duh). Personally, I don't even know what exactly kept me going for me to finish mtling this.

Spoiler

The beginning was actually fine. I appreciate the author actually writing the MC to try and practice the skills from her original body and that it took time. But right after that, it was like riding a roller coaster on a downward sloping rail to the typical Mary Sue MC with her perfect ML (and a pinch of trauma regarding women... except towards MC, of course. coughs because the ML (the author) needs a legit reason to remain utterly pure for MC coughs)

Feels like the one who wrote this is utterly naive. All women need to be envious of the MC. Every woman that catches sight of the tip of ML's perfectly shaped nose needs to be captivated then burn with utter jealousy because how dare MC got such good luck! She should suffer a thousand deaths for having her claws anywhere near him, grr!

No, really. Half of the novel kinda felt like this.

We haven't even started talking about the main character of this novel: Ruan Ning.

Yes, the main character is actually Ruan Ning, not Ruan Xi. At least I won't forget about her in just a few hours. Why? Aside from 50% of the novel included her while the other half was both MC and ML, Ruan Ning is so... ludicrously, idiotically evil. There's no good point in terms of her characterization at all. She exists for the sole purpose of jumping around to make trouble that barely does anything at all to the MC because of the ML's constant protection. Thing is, it's like the author hates giving Ruan Ning just once to think about her actions. Honestly, it just feels like the author wants Ruan Ning to be a complete foil to MC's complete perfection. I cannot stress the number of times I read that Ruan Ning would argue or insult MC and then immediately afterward having her own face slapped fiercely.

But she's 1000% shameless and that's hilarious in its own right.

Let's just say aside from the MC/ML and Ruan Ning, other plots and characters aren't really worth mentioning. Sometimes they seem interesting but ditched right after. Nothing's really developed aside from Ruan Ning's reputation's constantly dramatic decline. Even the romance felt very typical.

[collapse]

Basically, felt like I just ejected myself out of the washing machine of some naively written, ancient China-themed transmigration-type fairytale. It had the potential to be amazing, the start was pretty good but... well.

That aside, the translations are really good! Kudos to the translator! <<less

I like this gem of a novel. It has a lot of twist and turns, but very satisfying to read.

Th MC "transmigrated" into a "novel", where the original body was supposed to be married to Que An, a happy-go-lucky second son of Houyan family, after the villainess sister refused this marriage. The villainess sister was supposed to marry this person originally but she refused, hence the marriage fell on the MC lap. In the original track, after she got married to this man, she was pampered to the heavens and... more>> became the only wife. Hence, she was the envy of both the origFL and villainess sister.

After transmigrating, MC found out that, not only did the villainess sister accepted the marriage with Que An, but the MC was also now engage with the ML who was suspected of being broken sleeve in the original track because he did not marry at all then.

The MC and ML pretty much fell in love with each other quite early. This story is so fluffy, you will want to finish this in one seating. Like I did.

I like how the author made some twist and turns on the characters. I was actually worried what if Que An also regains his memory, wouldn't it be so heart breaking if he finds his beloved woman now a wife of another?

Good thing the author thought of another solution and it was so satisfying!!! <<less

I got to chapter 37 and didn't want to continue. There was too much too swallow and too little of interest. The novel should have a different name, "A Salted Fish Transmigrates Into A Shaungwen Novel" or something similar because this novel is not laid back at all.

The characters are what truly killed the novel for me especially the antagonists. Start with her step mother/ main wife. She has a hate for the MC that defies logic, common sense and plausibility. She's that classic xanxia character that just hates.... more>> The same is true for the elder sister/ transmigrator, she just hates the MC without rhyme or reason. A little of this sort of thing goes a long way, but this novel feeds the reader a steady diet and it's vomit inducing.

The plot so far is every bit as bad as the characters. It's primarily the MC watching the other characters slap their faces while she acts smug. Once again a little goes a long way. It gets grating when you look on and think that's not a bad idea, only to see plot armor and enforced roles crush the action.

The writing and translation are both excellent and save this novel from being unreadable. Even so it's not enough, this novel needed an editor with an axe. <<less

It's a light read, but by the end of the book there are too many plotholes left unattended and no character development, at all, for any of the characters. Don't expect too much from this.

The main premise itself (3 transmigrated women) was never, ever, addressed til the very end, and it's hella funny how none of them even have the consciousness to ask how they got there. Even the backstory of those 3 characters are barely touched (it was only mentioned that MC was an orphan, and the other transmigrators'... more>> backstories weren't even mentioned at all). It was later said that the MC was originally the OG!MC who lost her ancient times memory after learning her modern life, but it was never, I repeat, NEVER, explained nor did the subject got touched again. It's like the author was only throwing random shennanigans without giving any explanation at all just to make it more flavorful.

The characters are super duper extremely weak. MC's sister was still the same brainless arrogant girl by the end of the story, and she was supposed to have lived 3 lifetimes with a crazy amount of knowledge, had been imprisoned, jailed, blackmailed, and died. It's too silly to have a character who had gone through that much shown as a shallow brainless cliched villainess. Her character was so weak it's baffling. Such a missed opportunity.

Everything is one dimensional here, from the plot, the characters, the worldbuilding, everything.

Overall, really weak character setting with no growth in a very 'safe' plot. I honestly can't recommend this unless you've got nothing else to read. <<less

This was a really sweet and satisfying book. I was hesitating reading it first because of its timeline and I was kind of fed of it but it did not disappoint me at all. I was fed with dog food that I vomited sugar. I can't keep the smile off my face while reading it. There is still the usual dog blood drama yet the romantic approach did not reproach me at all.

I recommend!

This novel has one of the most entertaining antagonist ever and you just love to see her jump around like a monkey and hurting herself with every jump.

The novel is about 3 reincarnated characters with varying point of understanding of the original story. Our MC know the whole story by transmigrating into a novel, the antagonist only know her POV as she was transmigrated and then reborn (with really great golden fingers) and the original heroine is just transmigrated.

As I said, the antagonist is very fun because eventhough she have... more>> all these amazing golden fingers, she is not actually the heroine/protagonist thus nothing good come to her. The theme of this novel is - lay low and follow the custom! It directly slap all other transmigration novels where the MC jump around astounding everyone with thier golden fingers and point out there's no way you could be safe showing off like that thus the best thing to do is just shut up and lower your head. When you see the antagonist tossing around even with all her advantages somehow you will feel pity that her jealousy and meanness just make her situation worst and worst and if she could just shut up everything will be fine.

The MC herself is a model for all transmigrators to blend in and follow the rules. I like her calm personality but frankly like any other novels without the antagonist you don't really care to read about her or her romance. I just mostly skim when she's romancing the ML, seeing villains being slapped and disposed off are just more fun.

The translation is very excellent but you could MTL this. Sometimes its easier to read the MTL since in the translation they still put Chinese terms in and you get dizzy while in the MTL everything is translated (either correctly or not). <<less

This is not actually a novel about Ruan Xi and her very cute, Mary-Sue romance with her also very cute, Gary-Stu fiance. This is really a novel about an observer watching the train-wreck of Ruan san niang and eating popcorn, just like the rest of us. In that way it's actually a pretty original and interesting idea, and reasonably fun to read. You just have to have those expectations, not the usual kind where you expect a MC to actually encounter serious challenges.

This novel is great. The main couple is just alright. It's just a little bit boring because they are too perfect and never need to struggle for anything. Every conflict is easily resolve, so there's not much excitement there. But I really love the ML, he has high EQ which is so rare to see. The main reason of why I like him is because

He is so considerate. He make sure that the FL won't have to deal with difficult in-laws. There are so many MLs that I've seen that just marry the FLs and then left them alone to deal with difficult in-laws on their own.

Now, the most entertaining and interesting part of this novel is definitely the main antagonist (?), the 3rd sister. Yes, she's lacking in depth but in my opinion her character is intended to be a serious parody of a typical Mary Sue modern transmigrator. It has always been a pet peeves of mine when modern transmigrator act OOC and do suspicious thing like inventing modern technologies and no one bat an eye. The author do justice towards the ancient people in this story, they have braincells and they actually use it.

Spoiler

The 3rd sister is a reborn transmigrator. When she first transmigate, she is equipped with many golden fingers and she do all the cliche things that a typical Mary Sue protagonist would do with them, she start inventing modern technologies, pretend to be a divine doctor and everyone went along with it and she got adoration and admiration from everyone.

But here's the twist, the mother of the og owner actually know that her daughter has been replaced and it's stranger occupying her daughter's body. She hates the transmigrator to the bone but pretend she doesn't know anything in order to gain benefits from the transmigrator's various outstanding deeds. The moment that the transmigrator start inventing thing, the emperor has already keeps an eye on her. The emperor allow her to live as she wants because he wants to continue milking her for her inventions. Then the emperor make the transmigrator his concubine in order to imprison her in the palace and force her to use her healing power to help him. The transmigrator was also exposed for being a fake healer because she couldn't read pulse accurately. In the end once the emperor died he order the transmigrator to die with him too. The transmigrator then spend 20 years as a ghost stuck in the palace.

Once she is reborn, she still committed the same and new mistakes. The og owner's mother still realize that her daughter has been replaced bc the transmigrator act to OOC. Here's the interesting part for me, the mother continue to find ways to torment the transmigrator and she even try to kill the transmigrator. God, how I wish for a novel with a plot like this.

The main character wakes up to find herself a character in a book she read, the character in question was the younger half sister of a transmigator (not the original FL) who didn't want her marriage and pressed it onto her younger sister. However in the original book this goes badly for the transmigator as she ends up badly and the younger sister has a happy and spoilt life. In the current story the transmigator from the original is reborn and the younger sister is replaced with our MC. Everyone's marriages get passed around.

That's the premise of the plot. I haven't read more than the first chapter so I don't know more than that but I hope it helps

I really enjoyed reading the novel and seeing that it wasn't overly complicated. The MC and ML were both likable and their interactions were very sweet. There's no drama between the two and their romance starts rather early in the book and progressed rather smoothly.

The only real problem I have was with Ruan Ning, the villain. She's the main reason why I rated 3 stars as she wasn't a very good villain and took up a lot of screen time in the novel.

She's like a c*ckroach and remained alive until the end of the novel. The author often wrote her jumping around like a clown and it was entertaining at the beginning and middle part of the novel. However, toward the end, you're just sick and tired that she's still there jumping around to be noticed. Her retribution was also lacking and you can't help but wish something more sinister to befall her...

[collapse]

Overall, it's a decent novel. If you're interested in novels like 《Eight Treasures Trousseau》, you should read this novel. Although, don't have your hopes too high because it's not as good? But, it's also pretty good if you're looking for a novel that doesn't have the annoying misunderstandings between the two love interests and the drama level was minimal. <<less

This really feels like satire towards transmigration and rebirth books and it's executed quite nicely.

Spoiler

Third sister is a transvers who knows the plot and has knowledge that helps the ancient as well as healing gold finger, causing the attention of men to swarm around her. However, she was miserable in the first life, so was reborn by merit in the second life. But she didn't treasure it and the more she tried to avoid fate while continuing to hold onto her grudges and vengeance, the more she walked into the same path. However, despite being so jealousy and practically brain-dead, she managed to live past 30 this time, though not as happily as she'd wished.

Novel FL was naïve and merely concerned with being able to live well and eat well in ancient time. She is a transverse, but has practically no gold finger except for the fate of being the heroin needing to be with the hero. Unlike other transmigration novel, this neglected concubine-born daughter became a concubine of the cold fourth prince who already had other women in the backyard and only cared for power, not harboring much feelings for novel FL. Because of the small-minded rebirth woman, FL ended up miscarrying all three sons and was forgotten in the palace, became a low ranked concubine who doesn't fight for favor and only concerned with filling her belly while novel ML favored the empress, who gave birth to his sons, and the other concubines who birthed his children. Despite this though, as the heroin, she has the fate of the heroin, so when this life of lonely old ended, she was reborn and tried to stay low only to enter novel ML's backyard again to correct her fate of becoming empress dowager. Her story really gives a more realistic view of transmigration into ancient world.

As for our FL, the originally orphaned she thought she was transverse, but she was actually reborn, then forgot her memories, later thought she was transvers, only to remember the truth after marriage. Unlike everyone else, her husband is the novel standard pampering husband who only loves her, and though not royalty, as blood ties and is extremely valued by the old and new emperors. And the reason why ML only loves FL is explained nicely (childhood trauma of seeing his aunt died giving birth and being haunted by the nurse (?) because he saw the abnormality of it). FL is loved and valued by her family and in-laws, has a danger-warning gold figure, and everyone is envious of her good fortune while all those who appose her have no good end. A standard transmigration novel, minus the dragged on face-slapping, pitfalls, and misunderstanding plots. However, her cautious and low-key character does reflect the more realistic version of the ancients, as she is not like other transmigration into ancient times novel FLs who does big things. Here, FL keeps a low profile at first and tries to keep with the original's character so as to not be exposed by the rebirth. She studies hard to learn the ways of the ancients and due to her low statue, had to endure a lot and cannot directly face-slap her stepmother and vicious sisters/women. Because she is a woman in ancient times, so she has to rely on her husband and it's not always so easy to get rid of some people and she knows that and is patient about it. Over all, though her life is like a fantasy, her temperament is more in line with the ancients.

As for the original, she was reborn as someone with a similar face to FL and has memories of her past life. In this life, fate is again corrected and she still married her pampering husband.

[collapse]

The story really reflect karma, sins, and merit in life, as well as empathize that destiny, though can be tampered with and the path leading to it may differ, is not so easy to change. <<less

It's another no-brainer novel. But it suited my taste perfectly. There are some plotholes and some changes that were unnecessary in my opinion, but if you skim through it then it'll be a good enough read. At least I finished it in a few hours.

Our FL, Ruan Xi, is a transmigrater who adhered to the ancient life style and tried to live their way instead of her modern lifestyle. Of course her modern way of thinking is still there but in her words she is doing it *the local way*,... more>> which I find refreshing. Among those strong FL with golden fingers and op ability with which they change the world and becomes a Mary-sue, she sticks out with just this and I support it. I will give it to the author for saying that the ancient people weren't idiots and I wholeheartedly believe that. Despite being a no-brainer novel, it showed something that is rarely demonstrated. It greatly shows the differences between the present and the past. How they had amazing quality for food materials and wood curving ability but they still has to face natural disaster and didn't have any potato, corns etc. Our FL didn't really have any big setbacks which I expected, but she isn't a op either which I am grateful for. Anyway, overall not a hypocritical and overly kind FL. Maybe a bit bland for others' standards, but she is better than most of the other FLs in dogblooded novel.

The ML maybe a typical chinese male lead where he hates every female species but the FL. But the author provided reasonable enough explanation for him so I'll let that slide. Many can say that his character for an ancient man is unrealistic. In some aspects, maybe he is but he is not totally unrealistic. Even in the past, I believe there were plentiful men who thought of their wives and families first and foremost. His blackbelliness, cunning and protectiveness over FL and how he balances through his mother and wife, I will give him points for that.

The most attractive point in the novel is how the FL and ML got to know each other and fell in love through their engagement in the ancient setting. There was nothing modern about it. But it was stimulating and adorable at the same time. You'll get the feel only if you read it. Though the marriage between ML and FL was a bit rushed for they only met for a few months then but I'll let it slide considering there isn't that much drawback except the issue with the FL's age. She was fifteen then I think. But if you really think about the ancient setting then I guess it was quite common. In my native history, females were married between 8-13 years old so I have nothing to say about that. As for the ML being a pe*ophile, I don't think it's true either. He was nineteen I guess. And he was in more than reasonable age for FL in the ancient times.

The most hated character is Ruan Ning, another transmigrater. She is so brainless and annoying. Some of her scenes could've been cut but then the novel wouldn't have half the drama. Her character and golden fingers reminds me of other chinese prideful clumsy brash FLs who flips the world through their knowledge of the modern times. I mean even now, if someone acts like that they can be in potential danger and it's no joke then how can those FLs be as great as the author make it out to be. Her ending is the irony for those FLs. Instead of this female supporting character, I like the original FL more who just wanted to live peacefully with good food. She enjoyed the dog food of the Ruan Xi and Wen Ting Xhou. I felt a bit unfair for her at first cause she didn't have any evil intentions and she could've lived a good life if not for Ruan Ning. But the author gave her a satisfying ending too. For that I add another good point for the author.

I think at the later part the Ruan Xi being the original owner was totally unnecessary. Maybe because I already paired up the FL and ML; and the original Ruan Xi and her husband in the previous lifetime or the novel, Qi Yue An. He was a decent man too. He also had some liking towards FL and I think this whole thing could've been concluded better.

P.S:

If you want to read slice of life in the ancient setting (which I really like) then you've the green light. ^_^ <<less

This novel confuse me at first with the same surname for both FL and villian and all that transmigrated stuff and it does take me a few chapter too fully graps the concept so let me try to explain it here without spoiling more than the synopsis.

og: Original

First the og FL and og ML has little role is this story so throw these characters into the back of your head.

The OG novel has a supporting female character who is a transmigrator which is Ruan San (san - meaning third). Ruan... more>> san is the third daughter. She is the only legitimate daughter while others are illegitimate including our FL. For this novel, she is the main villain.

The FL transmigrated into this novel as an illegitimate forth daughter of Ruan Family as Ruan Xi (si - meaning forth)

So this novel is not the same anymore as there is our FL, Ruan Xi and also Ruan San has been reborn. Yep she has been transmigrated and also reborn hence why I was confuse at first.

So in the OG novel, the transmigrated Ruan San doesn’t want to get married with her fiance as he was a low born so the marriage was transferred to the OG Ruan Xi. OG Ruan Xi has happy marriage while Ruan San continue living miserably until she die.

Reborn Ruan san being jealous of Ruan Xi in the original novel decide to keep the marriage and ask her mother to arrange a marriage for Ruan Xi to our ML who in OG novel are famous for being cold and are single until old age, expecting the ML to reject our FL but to her surprise ML and his family accepted the arrangement. So this is the story on how Ruan Xi try to live her life being pampered by our ML while being targeted by the reborn transmigrator Ruan San.

yknow reading this back, I dont thinkmy explaination is much better than the synopsis 🤣

Finish this novel within 24 hour, ofc minus eating showering and all that. I do love laid back novel like this because intense drama is not good for my heart lol. If you want to read novel to bypass your time, I highly recommend this one. Its not too long nor too short. Its not boring nor its has to much political details. Its still serve conspiracy, drama and revenge nicely. <<less

The translation is gold!! Thanks so much translator!

I learnt a lot of new vocabs ^^. Like most people who reviewed I think the storyline is not that exciting, but the way it was translated it feels quite poetic at times, gives flavours that makes me keep going. I do wonder if the raw version gives the same vibe.

This is a story for those who likes to read fluffy dog food romance. And remember that even the title says LAID BACK NOVEL. So do expect the flow to be laid back,... more>> as most of the story telling is from the MC perspective, who conducts herself elegantly and calmly despite calamity being thrown at her by the rest of the world.

The unique part about this novel is the villain

Spoiler

who despite being both a transmigrator and reborn living 3 lives already.. Plus given a self healing system.. Is still living her worst days

[collapse]

Most transmigration or reborn novel tells a tale where transmigrators win in their current life given they possess knowledge of the plot. But this story shows that if you don't have IQ and heart

Spoiler

the villain spent most of her time in envy and plotting. Even after 4th life failed to reflect on her wrongdoings. She just thinks whatever happened to MC is due to luck

[collapse]

in life, and fail to reflect and correct, you will not have the success you yearn for. <<less

This is possibly the most peaceful Palace drama I've read. I mean, it's not like there's no schemes here, however, compared to those bloody schemes and power struggle in other palace dramas, I still think that this story is the calmest after all, I already prepared myself for the bloody fight for the throne, fortunately, there's none since the ML is neither a Prince vying for the throne nor is he a tiger pretending to be a pig or something. I'm actually very satisfied with this set up. Although the... more>> antagonist is indeed like an unkillable c*ckroach, I'm not very annoyed due to repetition because her schemes are really funny and will just caused some speechlessness. However, what I'm actually confused about is the world background. I'm kinda baffled about it because the FL is reborn, transmigrated etc. Then the rebirth of multiple characters added confusion to it. Anyway, I don't pay attention that much to them to avoid being confused. Also, although the ML has a lot of admirers, it's really not as bloody as usual since the ML was straightforward in rejecting them. The FL's relationship with her in-laws is good too. No such heavy dramas. Anyway, I really like it. It just that albeit I don't really find it ending abruptly, I feel like it's too short but at the same time, I don't think that it'll be good to drag or stretch the story more. In short, maybe this length is already enough. Btw, where Li Ji Cheng? As the ML's best friend, he just disappeared and was never mentioned again.

Overall, it's 10/10 for me. <<less
