On the Star Network there is a gourmet food broadcast, where all you can see are a pair of hands. However each dish that this broadcast comes out with is earthshakingly delicious. What’s more, the broadcast anchor’s voice is simply perfect!

With the broadcast’s rising popularity, several food programs extended him an olive branch. When the anchor appeared on screen, as they suspected, he is handsome enough to incur the wrath of both men and gods! The fans l**ked their screens with increasing frenzy, but after licking a while, they discovered…

Fans:…Wait a minute, isn’t this our fatally-ill idol who hasn’t long to live?

Small Gong: Take these damned nutrient solutions and throw them away! And get me that broadcast anchor!

I accidentally deleted my review, and I don't really feel like writing this again, so I'll write a short summary from my perspective.

A cute fluffy slice of life focused on the food instead of the romance. Extremely slow romance, could be boring for people who don't like slice of lives and cooking novels. Some weird plot holes here and there, but the ML's personality is really good (for me, at least), so I tried my best to not care about the plot holes.

Anyways, I'd recommend this to people who actually... more>> enjoy not having romance for the first 100 chapters of the novel and people who like reading cooking slice of lifes. If you're reviewing, don't count the pace of the novel into the ratings. It's in the tags, after all. Sorry for the bad English and have a nice day. <<less

very food focused

if anyone is looking for a mouth watering book then this is it

i would hope they focused more on the characters and plot

but I would say for a light read without much drama this novel is great

if it was more developed in terms of plot and story I would give it 5 stars but for what it is, it's only for 4 for me

If I were you guys, I would read this if you are hungry. It makes things more interesting.

ML

Spoiler

ML is the same as other damei's. I can't see another trait that could distinguish himself from other ML's, so he comes to the average list to me. Ever since he liked MC cooking, he has become 'interested' in him and that's basically about it. His love for MC felt rushed, which ruins the mood.
Also, his status is the same as other interstellar love interests. Seriously, why can't MLs have a different career!? Scientist? Teacher? Manager? Chef? Where did all this occupation go?! It can't be that only being CEO or GENERAL is the only way for ML to become stand out with his age being younger than most generals? No. It does not.

At this rate, it might be better if there isn't MLs. Because I would prefer friendship and family rather than MLs being bland and become possessive over MC.

As a person who read Chinese novels for quite a long time, there are at least 90% percent types of MLs like this on Romance and BL.

[collapse]

MC
Spoiler

I can't find MCs food is Western-Chinese cuisine. I have eaten Western and Chinese food before and these are not it. It's a common recipe in Modern China, I think.

He has a personality that is different from most people, that is charity. After he has enough money that could let him live his life for over a lifetime, he gave it to others the money that needs them, isn't very greedy over something, and cares for his relative, although it was a short time explanation by the Chinese author.

To be honest here, if I take this realistically, MC can't revive the Cooking Knowledge like soy sauce, ketchup, flour, etc. From the ancient earth unless he knew the ingredients or knows how to make it alternatively. In an interstellar world where they eat artificial foods, how can you find ingredients perfect for it?

More importantly, if you want to make a cooking novel. Make it more interesting and write on how to make these dishes or else I would go to a cookbook and throw it to your author's face. A cooking novel is supposed to be the MC making foods, what's the point if you are making a novel that is 'how to cook' very vague and just say the name of the dish and spice it up with some decorated words?

[collapse]

The translator who translates this novel is pretty good! I could understand what they are saying without me being confused. This is the most crucial part because it would destroy your experience when reading a novel.

All in all, if you are a beginner, I could recommend you to read this. It is fun and enjoyable. You could re-read it many times, but I don't recommend once you have read a novel that is currently has a much more exciting plot and heavily planned or you are an old reader who read so many types like this. <<less

Interesting read. A little short on the romance side and hmnn... Actually there's not much plot but rather it's all about cooking but it's well written and interesting enough that I failed an exam by 1 point for not studying because I couldn't put it down. Nice excuse. Lol

For the sake of objectivity, I'll give it three stars. According to my personal preferences, I would give 4 – 4.5.

It has to be said that at least 80% of this novel is nothing but cooking, there's barely a main story, so if you want an engaging experience with an intricate story, it isn't for you.

Let's go over its downsides.

It's a weird mix of Sci-fi technology, which isn't explained at all, politics, which isn't really explained either, entertainment-circle drama, that is only mentioned in passing but still used as a... more>> source of drama for several chapters, mechas, mentioned only in passing as well, and interstellar war – of course with Zergs.
The author put so many ideas into it and ultimately didn't use a single one properly, like he/she couldn't decide what the story should be about, and we just have to buy whatever is sold to us.
We get no good explanation for anything, especially not for the science behind restorations.

Excessive use of chats
I'm easily annoyed by chat-logs in novels, it's understandable that you have/want to include some when online fandoms play a part in your story, however, the author used it so much that I started to skip big portions of some chapters.
If you are bothered by chats, including long usernames and emojis, you'll suffer a lot while reading.

Small inconsistencies
They aren't big enough to cause a disturbance, many people might not even notice them, but if you are someone who's greatly bothered by these things, then it might break your immersion.

Spoiler

I noticed some usernames that include ingredients that weren't restored yet, so no one should even know them, let alone use them as a username.

[collapse]

There are several similar incidences, all very easy to overlook but they caused me to stumble and stop, not enough to turn me off, just enough to disrupt the flow and temporarily dampen the fun.

Romance
Very fluffy and healthy, sadly a bit irritating. ML is fantastic, he might be a bit slow in realising his feelings but there were enough hints to see how he gradually fell for MC.
MC on the other hand showed very little signs of being in love with the ML before he decided on the spot that he is - right after ML confessed.
He was struggling for one sentence, then they went straight for a deep kiss – it's important to note that MC wasn't gay but believed himself to be hetero. I'm personally not into this kind of "straight turned gay" in the span of a few seconds, especially when the character didn't seem to be comfortable with homos*xual relationships prior to his sudden transformation.

No questions asked
His understanding of new ingredients is far beyond what's possible, later on there are more things apart from food, but no one really questions him, he makes up some (very unbelievable) explanations and everyone just goes along with it.

Spoiler

The greatest disappointment for me: Even ML doesn't know about MC's origin, considering that they end up as husbands, it feels very dishonest.

[collapse]

Everyone is perfect
No matter if MC, ML, or important side characters, they basically have no flaws, which makes them boring at times.
The author states some things that could have been used to give them a bit of realism, like MC's apparent laziness, but it's never shown, quite the opposite, he seems very much like a workaholic.

Now, the good aspects.

Women are realistic people
Very rare in BL, there are some great female character, like a career woman, female chefs and military personnel, but, there also are some absolutely vile women.
In short, they are people, some are good and some bad, not this very biased view that we usually see in BL that gives you the feeling all women are naturally evil.

Transmigration, a bit different
MC didn't get the body's original owner's memories nor talents, he's still the same person he was in his last life, and while not described in detail, needs to learn everything about his new environment, there's no instant knowledge, no one to help him, and he has no interest in acting like he's the original.

I do have to say that it's kind of lazy writing to use the "amnesia" excuse as an easy way to justify all of this.

The food
My personal 4 – 4.5 star rating is mostly based on this point – the recipes are fantastic.
As someone who loves cooking, it was a delight to learn so many different dishes, the way they are described is detailed enough to try them out with a low risk of failure, those who aren't proficient in cooking might have to look for more comprehensive recipes, but they can already guess how it will taste, look, and what they need for it.
This story is more a cookbook than an actual novel, it feels a lot like one of those (good) pseudo-reality TV cooking shows that used to be popular a few years back.
Most of all, it's accurate and realistic, I'm impressed by the hard work the author must have put into their research and formulating feasible recipes.
I will certainly recreate a lot of the dishes from this novel.

Overall, it's a story with little substance and minimal plot, drama is resolved quite quickly and replaced with a different kind of drama, it adds barely anything and seems unnecessary.

It's a feel-good novel you shouldn't expect much from, be it logic, character development, action or well-thought-out plot, the core is nothing but fluff and cooking.

As longs as you are aware of that, and into this kind of thing, you will definitely like it. <<less

I think it was rather a cooking story, than a romance novel. Their interactions were so limited, there was practically none for like the first third of the story. Later on it was not enough for my taste as well.

The translation was really good, and as someone, who has no knowledge about Chinese cuisine, all the pictures, recipes that were included in the translation made me enjoy the book so much more, than it deserved. If I could rate the translator's work, I'd give it an A+.

I'd recommend it to... more>> people, who are not sure about tomorrow's menu, or really love cooking broadcasts. It was good for reading, as I didn't have any better to do right now. <<less

Hmmm, this novel is either a hit or a miss. If you like mellow slow burn novels with lots and lots of food commentaries - well this is the perfect read for you! I took one star away for a super abrupt ending and another for plot holes.
Spoiler

MC transmigrated from the past earth to the future futuristic not even residing on earth anymore timeline. He's not in his own body either - he is possessing a former actor. In this future, the past cooking methods and dishes were all lost and MC created a live broadcast channel to show his past cooking methods in order to earn some expenses. ML is an op marshal and he of course is hooked on MC's food.

The novel also ended without the ML knowing that MC transmigrated. Where is the trust in this relationship??? MC never had to explain how he knew all the lost cooking methods and materials.
[collapse]

In short, there are snippets of the budding romance between MC and ML but more like 60% of the novel is about chinese food. Towards the end I actually skipped some because it just felt like the author had nothing else going on. And the ending. Omg the ending was so abrupt I was struck speechless. Still it was a rather okay read to pass time. Why not just give it a shot since we are just stuck at home now :D

P.S. Don't read this on an empty stomach.

This is an interesting story. But a whole lot of stuff went down prior to the transmigrating that wasn't explained in details.

Spoiler

His plane crashed because an asteroid hit the earth. Climate change and zombies. Then bam he transmigrated into a film emperors body whose been in a coma for five years.

[collapse]

I wish they went more in depth with that before he went to the future. Also, there was a lot of stuff in the story that I feel the author could have elaborated on. They skimmed and fast forward a lot of the action and some of the plot.

Besides that, the story was good and an enjoyable read. But it only gets 4 stars from me. It definitely could have been better. <<less

This disjointed story is as bland as the food descriptions are distinctive... There are more weibo comments than actual dialogue of MC with anyone... There is barely any interactions/dialogues/backstory/world building that makes one connected to the characters... MC is basically Gary Stu-every problem can be solved by his out-of-the-world cooking!

Main ingredient of each chapter is food (descriptions/cooking style) stir fried with random weibo comments, furnished with a sprinkle of actual storyline as a garnish... It really IS a cook book masquerading as a romance novel... And most of the mentioned... more>> food (only Chinese) is not exactly gourmet, but more like your run of the mill home/diner food... <<less

When talk about specific genre such as cooking/food, martial arts, mech, mafia, school, etc., it requires some detailed knowledge to make the plot is moving on right track without being too much nonsense. But, this one, somehow manages to pull it off. [It takes place in years later where common knowledge of cooking is abandoned and lost. So common becomes ultra rare]

The good reasons I stay

    • Years later, means talk about far away future, and support how advanced the civilization compare to now. Staying as the pace of being light-weighted-plot, there's a simple explanation about tech that need to be used, and no crazy-explanation about fashion or furniture as plot-filler or to enhance the beauty of the MC. Let's be real what people in the past, in 90's and now are different and why that kind of style exist at the time.
    • Since it's about food, it needs to be boasted and detailed explanation. To make it easier, by making cooking skill is a lost skill, indeed it is a good move. The best part, MC told reader why he was food blogger than chef. Logically by the situation, I as reader can accept why such a common knowledge makes MC is superior than certified chef in the story.
    • There's a deus ex machina, such as MC has one butler and home (it's still a mystery --- someone gave monthly fund to mc) and he could make lot of money by making one simple cooking video. But soon, it has reason why, which is because preparing and processing ingredients are kind of secret, that the chef organization won't exposed it easily because it costs money on R&D phase and by making it elite, they could cow cashing the rich. Still the money throw in to the R&D phase, so.... and most people doesn't highly regards cooking and food. It's too traditional, time-taking, most taste weird. | so if people give lot of money to MC, it's because in their pov MC is kindly sharing exquisite food and the way to cook them.
Why 4 star

    • MC body is pretty strong to make dough. In chapter one, he was described as similar as skeleton and had deteriorated muscle, without good excercise or any deus ex machina pill, he shouldn't instantly have nearly normal body. He even said he couldn't eat rice yet. Hmm...
    • I still don't know how the romance is built between MC and ML, too little is as bad as too much. I'm still anticipating how well it will brought in here.
    • It's an okay webnovel. No hate-feeling for MC and some characters due to foolishness or any inconsistent contents. It's enjoyable, at least for me.
Overall, I'm still liking this novel

Interesting but extremely rushed the relationship between MC and ML a just zoomed straight to marriage like there was zero evidence of progress. The cooking wasn’t very entertaining but it was intriguing.
I really wish there was more focus on the progression of the romance and less food based ones like the food contest was truly not needed in my opinion and that arc took so many chapters. Probably only read if your very bored and have nothing else to do 😬😬

Really enjoyable and fun, just a bit disappointed that author didn't pay attention much about the relationship exposure and it's only packed near the end. Yeah it's a slow burn but the romance is almost not there most of the time hahahahaha.

Yeah all the cooking shits can get boring for quite some time but can actually skip this lines/parts without affecting much of the stories sense unless you're looking for recipes lol.

Focused too much on cooking that MC & ML almost lost their presence in the story so they didn't... more>> left much impression. Also quite disappointed that MC didn't tell ML about his actual life on Ancient Earth and him being transmitted/reincarnated.

So yeah kinda bland but still has its own charm. If you're into cooking stories then you'll really love this. I prefer a visual (like manhwa) version of cooking stories so I don't appreciate much the cooking shits hahaha. <<less

Real good quality slice of life novel. The pace is great with good arcs and the right amount of action. The romance is slow burn and so good! If you aren't into descriptive cooking methodology/ excessive food description, this may not be for you as ther's at least one in almost every chapter. But it is not so in your face like some and is reasonably placed. Give this a try if you're looking for a dose of food and not-overly-sweet fluff!

If you're hungry, don't read at your own risk. You're going to salivate what with all the dishes Ruan Tang prepared. It's basically a cookbook, if you're interested in trying some Chinese Cuisine, read it.
