The E-Sports Circle’s Toxic Assembly Camp

Description

Chief tactician Lin Yan entered an e-sports novel. At this time, there was still a whole year to go before the original plot started.

The big devil who would frighten people in the future was still a thin-skinned little anchor; the disaster who once disturbed the e-sports circle was playing as an accompanying player; the best healer was sitting on the cold bench of a third-rate team; the strongest king at shooting his mouth off offending the media and his black materials were flying all over the place…

They would shine as the plot progressed but unfortunately, their teams weren’t strong enough. In the end, they couldn’t escape the fate of a cannon fodder.

Lin Yan couldn’t bear to see these talents being wasted. The e-sports professional reality show started and he spent money to set up the GH Club, moving from east to west to select his team.

The variety fans: ??? Is this ‘Go Home’ team picking up the junk?

This lasted until all the opponents were coughing up blood at GH’s tactics and could only watch GH get a ticket to the professional league.

The entire e-sports circle knew that apart from their captain Jing Yuanzhou, the entire GH team was a group of barely qualified variety show players not worth paying attention to. As a result, this toxic team swept through the field and reached the top in their first year of the league.

When the media interviewed GH: Captain Jing, why did you agree to Coach Lin’s proposal and join GH?

Jing Yuanzhou: He pestered me every day saying ‘I want you’. It was really difficult to turn down such great kindness.

Lin Yan: “???”

Check the salary deduction warning.

The entire Internet went crazy: Parental love is real!!!

So another League e-sports based novel. I don't play that much LoL but a lot of the plot mentioned in here is definitely fantasy. This is also an older novel (or feels older because it mentions 3-ban instead of the current 5-ban system which was implemented in 2017.)

I think that's fine; the novel isn't super focused on making realistic plays. The author has an understanding of the game for sure, but it's also definitely exaggerated a LOT for plot or effect.

So I wouldn't recommend this if you were interested... more>> in the technical parts of the game being portrayed well, it's more focused on the relationship development between the main characters as well as building up a team. Which I personally enjoyed.

Overall very fluffy, not much angst, just a lot of banter and happy fluff.

One thing is that the translation is not very on point for the gaming terms. I've been a fan of RainbowTurtle's translations for a long time, but in this case there were quite a few that missed the mark.

Such as the mentions of "side lane" and some other terms (like "output" or "shooter") would be better translated as top/bottom lane, DPS, ADC, ARAM, baron, river crab, the different dragon buffs (infernal) etc. But it's ok, RainbowTurtle is very speedy.

Spoiler

Half the time I was reading I was wracking my brain on matching champions to the code names or pseudonyms the author/translator used for them

I think I figured out a few of them? But no clue on the rest.

[collapse]

Also, pet peeve of mine, please use "antis/haters" when talking about "black" fans. Seriously doesn't make sense in English. What is a "black fan"?

  • A fan who is trying to blackmail their idol? No.
  • A fan who is doing illegal activities? No (at least, I'm pretty sure being toxic on the internet isn't illegal just yet).
  • A fan who is of African descent? No.
There is no reason for this translation and makes zero sense in English, "anti" or "hater" or "troll" actually makes sense. Thanks. <<less

I like the characters a lot. They're all nice and comedic. However, the plot doesn't seems to be focus on E-sports but the romance between MC and ML who happened to be pro players.

Many times, the writer either just skipped the game or rushed it. Meanwhile, the romances were prolonged and frequent.

The intervals between each games were incredibly long while the actual game were described perfunctorily. I couldn't help but feel like being cheated since I expected more gameplay from this type of novel.

Anyway, when the MC and ML are... more>> together, their relationship is very cute and sweet. They are both supportive and protective towards each other, which indicate a very healthy relationship. <<less

A good novel. I originally thought there would be a lot of drama but the plot can be considered lighthearted with the face-slapping, the comedy and the romance.

My favourite part would be the character development of not just the main couple (who made me sweat with anxiety) but also the side characters ahem the children. Seeing them overcome their pasts and fight for their dreams is very moving.

I have to admit though that I'm not very familiar with MOBA games so some of the game elements of the story are... more>> lost on me.

Overall this has been a satisfying read for me. <<less

Really incredible. I can't stop myself from reading.

As a french reader, the translation seems really fine and it's not difficult to understand the video game's vocabulary.

The characters have all their own story and are well developped.

The romance is really great and not too slow or too fast.

The game's fights are breathtaking.

I want it to never end xD

(The game is similar to LOL and it made me play it even though I didn't like it years ago... I'm now an addict)

I really want to finish it but unfortunately, something is wrong with MTL !!!

I like this novel, it has humor (just like Glory or I can do it) but in a different way, and I like every one in GH team 😭, Babies. The sport part or gaming is easy to understand and fun to read. Also, I love the MC and ML, especially tther interactions. I like the other members as well omo all of them are good, they're really like a... more>> family.

Anyway I am not really good in giving reviews but this one, I highly recommend it. <<less

Oh man, I'm a sucker for esports stories, but the interactions of the MC and the ML so far are soo good. There seems to be an underlying complete understanding between the two and I'm so excited to see the future of these talented individuals. I'll update this review if my mind changes as I read it since it's still fairly early. I was just smiling so much as I read it I had to drop a review.

5⭐ so far for the plot, the comedy and quality of the translation.

Many of the interactions between the MC and ML are hilarous because neither of them is afraid of taking the other's joke and running with it.

Just reading the beginnings of this book has me hooked; the MC is shameless, smart and very straightforward, however his way of words is very misleading. It’s so misleading that when he first meets ML, well... you read it and find out.

The translation alone is very good and I’m confident that the consistency of the translation will remain till the end as it’s being translated on Chrysanthemum Garden; a site containing many good novels that’s delivered to Fudanshi and Fujoshi’s reading pleasure.

I’m not quite sure of this novel plot wise... more>> seeing as I’ve only read about two chapters in, but from what I’ve gathered so far and from the synopsis, this seems like a novel revolving around a group of gamers (MC aside) you’d see in a ‘cliche’ e-sports novel, however, they’re on the /losing/ end. I’m interested to see how they’d flip the world upside down with this strange team,

I’ll update this as I get deeper into the novel. <<less

MC: Lin Yan

ML: Jing Yuan Zhou

It is an E-Sports, Yaoi, Romance, Transmigration. MC was an E-Sports player turned Coach in his original world. He transmigrates as the son of Lin Group and spends money to create an E-Sports Club. He gets ML and others to join his club.
Spoiler

MC has PTSD so he cannot wear his headphones and play in group matches.

[collapse]

ML is the Top Side-Laner of China, who is considered a player on the verge of retirement, when MC contracts him.

The chemistry between MC & ML is so good. They were already teasing each other even before they realised that they liked each other. What makes them (good) different for me is that they talk and think about practical things when considering their feelings.

Gu Luo - Gloy
Spoiler

He is the mid-laner of GH, who us a die hard fan of Titans. He is inexperienced in any professional games. He has a cute face with fierce way of fighting.

[collapse]

Chen Yushen - Abyss
Spoiler

He is the jungler of GH. He retreated from professional gaming field after a violent incident in which he attacked people who bullied his good friend so much that he committed su*cide. He is always cold and has a 'stinky face'.

[collapse]

Jian Ye - Gun
Spoiler

He is the Support of GH, who was a substitute player. He used to get in fights before. He has a younger brother Jian Ning who will be the sixth member or substitute of the GH team.

[collapse]

Bi Yao Hua - BB
Spoiler

He is the shooter of GH, who used to be a professional player but his old team used to match-fix so he scolded them, which is against the rules. He is called tr*sh Talk King.

Put off reading this for a long time because of the word “toxic” in the title and the summary which seemed draggy and not to the point. Would say that the “toxic” is quite misleading—not so much toxic as individuals with past history, some negative, some low key; and overall attitude of the team defies the ‘usual team styles’ which is on the verge of cliche.

Really need to have some e-sports tower pushing background knowledge/interest to get into the novel. Would say I enjoyed most all of the romance bits... more>> between the two leads—the misunderstanding start, build up, hinting around, open & upfront. But I really wish it were more predominant (personal preference). The entrance assembly tv show was an interesting format, but the backstory of supporting characters could have been built in a better natural flow to get properly invested in the twists & turns. You can obviously see where the competition is going to end up—the foreshadowing is obvious such that there really isn’t much suspense to the games, which end up becoming a bit boring. Which is a bit of a waste because MC’s tactics seem quite interesting & versatile so I wish it were written/story structured in a more engaging manner.

Spoiler

MC’s PTSD and subsequent attempts to overcome it and even managing to play with ML on a global stage was really satisfying though. I also liked that it was an eventual process that added flavour to the story. But I wish there was more elaboration on it.

[collapse]

Overall, made it to chapter 130-150 before feeling repetitive (I think, can’t really remember). I appreciate the effort spent to build the other team members’ backstories but feel like I really needed more interactions between the team members to solidify the dynamics & get me invested. Most of it they just pop up when the focus side character needs support, other than that they don’t feature much.

If just the romance, a strong 4; as an e-sports novel 3.5+ had potential but could be better written. Would likely not re-read ‘cause it got too draggy towards the end. <<less

Okay, I really can't wait to put my review here 🤗😆

First of all, why did I skipped this many times? I now felt like those I've read so far that's related to eSports is somehow a bit lacking? If we are going to compare it with this novel.

-this novel has a great pacing. the characters were all focused. It didn't just stay between the ML and the MC but, it all included the side characters very well.

Then there's this amazing and amusing Coach MC, with his witty and tactics it... more>> makes the game enjoyable to read. Characters were mature, I love that there's a lot of face slapping of netizens.

This had a reverse wealthy character, usually the rich is the ML and they always overbearing. But Coach Lin is goofy, straightforward, tactical genius in eSports. And I like that it didn't follow the common plot that since he read the novel all his knowledge were given.. it didn't actually focus on that. His skills and talent weren't Mary sue, he still works for it. And his tactics were base from his long experience from the real world and then coupled with his hard work. Even though it was said he was rich and a son of a conglomerate, the story didn't actually over emphasize his wealth. His Identity as a rich kid blends well with his Identity as a coach, and didn't seem really that much different from any other characters. So I like what the author did here... The characters were more human, too many subtle emotions, which is good. Because if this were any other stories they kinda exaggerated it so sometimes a story get dragging, boring or irritating 😔 <<less

Just an aside: as with any e sports novel, you'll have to at least be familiar with how tower-pushing MOBA works because this game was made up by the author. While things can be substituted (soldiers=minions, base tower=inhibitor turret, etc) a lot of the terms are still the same (jungler, sidelane having a fighter/tank and marksman; midlane having a roaming mage, core items, economy, etc) things may still be confusing if you have no idea why they're important — the buffs/jungle monsters being a trigger for clashes, for example, or... more>> why setting up a 4-man assassin or a tank team is considerable tactics.

Overall, this was an easy read. The characters are much older than your usual e sports novels, which I suppose brought about the conversation about retirement and health, but that gave this book the stability it needed especially with how completely unhinged LY is as a main character. His adjustment period to having been transmigrated was never addressed in the story itself, just glossed over, and it's something fresh and easily appreciable — he never saw the people or their lives as "canon fodder" or "unimportant" and did everything he could to give everyone the chance and space they needed to become the best players that they could be. While I never really figured out what the original plot was, I'm thankful the JCY got one more year to play instead of having to retire right off the bat. <<less

I LOVE THIS AHHHH

honestly this novel reminds me so much of a sports manga that I've read months ago. Both the protagonist were coaches of their respective clubs. Though the only difference is, this one is about e-sports while the other one is about football.

Anyways, I'm only in chapter 20 but I already love this novel. I love the flow of the story, it's not fast nor slow pace, it's perfectly balance. Also, I like that the story not only focuses in the main characters but the side characters as... more>> well. I can already see myself loving these characters more as the story progresses (≧◡≦)

I'm a sucker for concepts like this where a small and unknown team suddenly smashes the other teams so I'm excited to read more ☆*:.。.o (≧▽≦) o.。.:*☆ <<less

This novel is simply introducing to you another mindmaster with critical analytical ability and overall expert in mind games - ✨Lin Yan✨

This is an E-sports based novel. And it is indeed a bit tough to understand the gaming procedure if you are new to this, but I promise the struggle is completely worth it!! Even when you don't understand the gaming part much, the jest and thrill alone will encourage you to keep reading!! And with time, you’ll actually understand the tactics more and more.

This is a gift for people... more>> who Love TEAM or SQUAD interactions. As the game is 5 player team, there will be the interaction between many teams. Our main CP is the 🔥Captain X Coach🔥 of our main team and the interaction and bond between the whole team is so cute and sweet!!!

The mindmaster is our shou. The tactics he uses for each battle and his understanding of his own and other groups and the overall game is so high, it will leave you stunned!! Dude is also an expert in everyday mindgames of people too!! You can't help falling in Love with the way his brain works!

Aside from our main CP, there are also 3 other very clearly hinted couples in the e-sports circle!! And another two very potential ship! 👀 Oh, did I forget to mention yet? This is also another 💥Shameless X Shameless💥 CP. Along with our "parents cp" (cause our sweet coach and captain is like the parent of the team) sweeping everyone around with their shamelessness and random shove of dog food, there is also pure comedy from the misery of the single dogs! 🧛🏽‍ This novel is a beautiful combination of tactics, comedy, secondhand embarrassment, sweetness, cuteness, mutual understanding, tacit team bonding, revenge in the field, perfect face-slap, very enjoyable tr*sh talk and a very very good plot perfectly worth of your time! I guarantee 💯

Not only each player of the team is unique and cool in their own way, but also every other character has a really good character development! You can't help falling in love with almost every character in the novel. It's truly beautiful!

Ah and though this is originally an parallel transmigration novel, that has almost nothing to do with the main story, aside from Lin Yan knowing information about things that will happen way long in future. We'll, that's it! Happy reading if you pick it up!! Enjoy!! <<less

I don't want to go into the game mechanics too much. The reason because there wasn't much in the first place. For the first half of the novel I honestly don't know what game they are even playing? I didn't feel any excitement during those games earlier because I have no clue what going on, it wasn't until the latter half it got better. But really you still feel the author is just writing out of thin air and makes things up as it goes along. I don't feel the... more>> tension at any game through out due to the lack of details alot of times. We even got to the point where 20th minute... x kill y 35 minute y kill x.. 40 minutes.. Victory line by line description summary were used for short descriptions.. you get what I mean?

It wasn't going to be 5 stars but it was saved by the relationship of Coach Lin and Captain Jing. These 2 are smooth, are really comfortable to ship. Lin Yan is such a magnetic person, whatever he do just draws you in. He's such a tough character where Captain Jing is the only one where he can show weakness and be conquettish to. I find warmth when I read the stuff they say, just makes me very fluff and comfortable.

Usually in Esport novel game mechanics are important in this genre but for once this relationship really can make it worth to read. I have no regrets in this case. <<less

Wow, so good! Great tr*sh talk, great characters and development. Almost cried at the ending and a few other emotional moments. I love how everyone was OP and great. Just... love. I've also never thought much about the Ban and Pick stage or much of a coach's contribution, but the way it is handled here is awesome.

This is kind of an isekai, but it doesn't come up often since these events take place a year before the "novel" starts, so very minor isekai vibes. Mostly just there so we know... more>> how Lin knows who the best hidden gem players are.

Super fun read, highly recommend. <<less

more of a 4.5/5 than 5/5 (EDIT I LIED I LOVE IT ITS MY FAV DANMEI MAYBE..)

. Because the author didnt explore the past life of lin yan/the isekai genre enough!!!!

Spoiler

jing yuanzhou clearly witnessed lin yan's panic at the finals (national, not world championship) when ly was sick and jyz wanted to go buy medicine. he saw the sorrow and stuff and he also knows that ly has ptsd n trauma. plus it was mentioned that lin yans dad was the same dad he had in his prev life! def not a coincidence!!!

[collapse]
but these were never developed even in the extras which is really such a pity! I was hoping since the start that jyz would ask abt his ptsd or ly wld tell him abt it. could confess abt his past life n just explain everything too. though that didnt happen : (was really looking forward to it since this was an isekai esports (first ISEKAI esports ive ever seen so yea)

other than that tho this is rly perfecttt I love it so much

chen yushen is also soo cute as well as gu luo etc but I feel like there wasnt much to see abt the team itself. they didnt really have much of a presence other than when gaming or when having to witness main cp dog food. like when they have holidays the first thing they do is go home. I dont really see them hang out outside of for the purpose of practice/celebrating TT though theyre stuck with each other all day long so I guess its normal. plus ofc I get that visiting home during the holidays is much more important but it wld have been nice to see an extra talking about one day theyre hanging out idk like at the beach or just going out and having fun yk! I also wish there were extras of the team members' daily lives... this part doesnt affect my rating tho, its just that I grew too attached to the team n want to see more haha.

ok 1 more thing but when
Spoiler

lin yan n jian ning came in to sub at the finals of world championship, it was more boring than expected. I thought there wld be more details esp since it was the finals but not rly. but yea still doesnt affect my enjoyment of the novel much. I just suddenly rmbed abt it aft seeing another review say the final was kinda boring lol

My first eSports novel was LOVE YOU 59 SECONDS and since I'm a little fan of this category. But I must say this is the only novel that gave me the "everything complete" feeling.

The author did a brilliant job describing every teams' and every players' emotions. Often authors tend to only focus on the main couples or things related to them. But here author actually described others as well and did it absolutely beautifully. The hardship behind the success also showed here.

The most loving fact about this novel is MC's... more>> character! He remember his grudges, encourage everyone, absolutely supportive, cunning, cheerful, all time confident about what he's doing, he's also confident to his team members, and sometimes naive (only for ML though).

Every detail is described with reason and this thing makes everything complete!

But! I! Wanted! Side! CP!

And there were even so many options to pick from! But anyways I myself self-made some CP's! So yay! <<less
