A big thank you to all the people who have read the book and reviewed it. I am very eager to start reading it today. I am a Chinese but illiterate in Chinese so I am extremely grateful to those kind souls who did the translation and therefore, share the beauty of Chinese story telling. I am more than half a century old and only started to read Chinese novels a few weeks ago. Haha, I guess it is never too late to start anything. Cheers!

This story.

THIS STORY.

Honestly, folks. If you're into romance and you haven't read this yet, you're missing out. On a lot.

... more>> Although a little bit simple, this story is beautifully written and translated. Much, much thanks to the hard work of the people who made this and the translations possible. Throughout all of these lives, it's clear that Moxi and Sansheng really, really love each other. They're just so dear and sweet and OTP ya know?

The cincher for me though, is that even though I'm not much into those tragic romances and dramas, and even though I barely get emotional for fictional works like anime and these novels, this seriously got me to tear up and get my throat all painful and clenchy. Really though, it's a good and lovely read, and it's short so it won't take up too much of your time (ALTHOUGH I ACTUALLY WISH IT WAS LONGER SOBSOBSOBSOB) so you've got nothing to lose. What are you waiting for?! <<less

This novel is highly rated and almost every review here is positive, so I guess I have some explaining to do since I'm giving it just a one star for a reason. But please don't skim-read if you're planning on reading this review, as I did provide the lines/parts (that are hidden under the 'spoiler' tabs) which made me come to the conclusion that I have:

I found this novel uncomfortable because the things FL did to the child, yes child, ML were disturbing along with the way she... more>> behaved towards (the ML's child disciple) Chang'an.

    • 1st life: the FL raised the ML ever since he became an orphan, and told him, the 9 years old him, that she's his 'wife' and he must see her as his only love interest as she's going to marry him in the future.
Spoiler

Chapter - 2 | wife part:

Even so, I had no idea the timespan of nine years could turn such a beautiful plum forest into this withering state.

"Where's your mother?" I asked him.

"Dead."

His direct answer surprised me. Hadn't mortals always cared a great deal about life and death? maybe he was still too young to understand life and death. That was the only explanation I could come up with.

"Since your mother has passed away, everything is up to you now. Remember, as of today, I have successfully seduced you."

He remained silent as he watched me. I scratched my head; talking to a child was proving to be a very difficult task. Moreover, the child in question was somewhat reticent and withdrawn to begin with. I decided to use a simpler language to explain to him.

"In other words, I am your wife from now on. In accordance with the rules of the mortals, I am your child bride. But this isn't important. What's important is that no one can ever bully you again now that I'm here."

His eyes lit up. I patted his head: "Let me hear you call me 'darling'."

He was silent for a moment. "Sansheng, " he repeated my name.

"It's 'darling'!"

"Sansheng."

"Darling!"

"Sansheng."

"Fine, " I gave up, "call me Sansheng then."

[collapse]

    • 2nd life: She constantly made inappropriate 'jokes' about a child disciple of the ML, who reminds her of him from their 1st life, being 'good-looking but unfortunately still too little' and letting him believe that she wants his 'yang' aka wants to m*lest him.
    • In fact, even if you're not planning on opening the spoilers, you must at least read this one line directed at the ML's kid disciple and decide for yourself whether you want to bother reading this novel or not: My lips unturned into a smile that was as radiant as it was le*d. "Although your yang is a bit small, it's still better than nothing. And though my heart already belongs to your venerable Reverend, it's a bit difficult to control my desire when I look at a boy as handsome as you. Won't you indulge me today?"
Spoiler

Chapter - 8 | 'unfortunately still too little' part:

"His, His Most Reverend?"

I placed my hands over my heart and said with all the affection in the world: "That's right, you're a quite good-looking chap, though unfortunately still too little. Your Most Reverend, on the other hand, has long taken over my heart."

Chapter - 9 | M*lestation 'joke' part:

I rushed back to the dilapidated hut and pulled a soundly sleeping Chang'an out from under the quilt. He blinked blearily at me, disoriented and confused. I gave him a toothy grin. "Chang'an, can you help me with something?"

Only now did he turn to look at me. He froze for a moment, screamed in fright, and then attempted to wrap himself up in a panic so that I wouldn't see him.

I sternly dragged him out by his collar and brought him to a spot closest to Zhonghua's bedchamber. Patting his tear-stained face, I told him: "Cry, cry as loud as you can!"

He stared at me blankly.

My lips unturned into a smile that was as radiant as it was le*d. "Although your yang is a bit small, it's still better than nothing. And though my heart already belongs to your venerable Reverend, it's a bit difficult to control my desire when I look at a boy as handsome as you. Won't you indulge me today?"

Chang'an was scared stiff, as if he had been struck by lightning.

I guess that was to be expected. In the middle of the night, an unfamiliar female had broken into his room, abducted him and said she wanted to mol*st him. Any sane person would be shocked. I very graciously allowed him a second of stupefaction, after which, I satisfyingly heard him give a shrieking scream.

"No!" Petrified, he crawled to the edge of the force field, banging on the force field's wall screaming: "Save me, Your Most Reverend! Save me! Chang'an is still too young! Chang'an doesn't want to die!"

[collapse]

    • She spoke inappropriately about Chang'an again in the last extra. Which proved that it wasn't due to her 'naivety', since she has gone through everything in the mortal realm and was well-aware of how she should be behaving by the end of the novel. Hell, she wasn't even a rock anymore.
Spoiler

Extra - 3

Sansheng furiously slammed her palm onto the table. "Bai Jiu is our enemy! How could she let Chang'an fall in love with that piece of shit?"

Our, she said this word so naturally that Moxi's mood lifted. His gaze fell on Sansheng as he warmly asked, "So what do you want?"

"We mustn't let Bai Jiu have such a yummy treat! Chang'an is such a delectable boy. If someone were to eat him, I'd have to have the first taste."

A dangerous ray sparked in Moxi's eyes. Sansheng diverted her eyes and corrected herself: "If someone were to eat him, he'd have to ask me first!"

[collapse]

    • 3rd life: her behaviour in this life was even worse because she, once again raising the ML except it was right after he was born, nibbled on the ear of the 7 years old ML, kissed him on the face and asked him if it 'feels good' then told him that those cheek kisses can only be done to 'special people', wanted him to never like a girl around his age, and made inappropriate 'jokes' like saying "What are you running for? We aren't adulterers caught in bed." after cuddling with him, the same him who's still 7 years old.
Spoiler

Chapter - 12 | Kissing him on the cheeks and asking if it 'feels good' part:

Watching his big watery eyes blinking up at me, fright not yet gone from his face, my heart softened into a puddle. Unable to help myself, I smacked my lips onto his soft white cheek.

His eyes grew even rounder.

"Does it feel good?" I lifted his chin and asked him like a rogue.

Moxi touched his face and gave my question some serious thought, then solemnly nodded.

I grinned smugly. "Even if it does, this is something you can only do to the most important person in your life. You mustn't do it casually."

Moxi softly rubbed his cheek, and then cupped his small hands around my face. My reflection was clearly imprinted in his clear eyes at the moment he stood on tiptoe, copied my action, and gave my cheek a sounding peck.

Afterwards, he touched the spot he had just kissed and kept looking at me as if to say: "I'll only do this to Sansheng."

For a second, I couldn't help giving him several more kisses. I kissed him till his face was smeared in saliva. He was hesitant to push me away in his helpless way, only smiling quietly.

Chapter - 12 | Nibbling on the ear and "What are you running for? We aren't adulterers caught in bed" part:

I opened my eyes to see that Moxi was watching me with a huge grin on his face. He was holding my hair in his hand, sweeping it across my cheek and tickling me again.

I didn't like having other people touch my precious hair, but it never mattered with Moxi. Even if it did, I could never get mad at that beaming face. I blinked a few times and said to him: "Moxi, are you having your ways with me?"

He copied my blinking and looked at me in puzzlement, not understanding what 'having his way' meant. I gave him a sly smile and playfully nibbled his ear. "This is called 'having your ways'."

He froze, clutched his ear, and turned crimson red.

As I was sighing why this child was so easily embarrassed in this lifetime, he surprisingly puckered up and gave my cheek a sounding peck.

By the time I recovered, I planted an equally blunt kiss onto his face. I kicked away my shoes, lifted the quilt and climbed into bed, cuddling him in my arms. "Let's not do anything today. We'll just lie here and have a good rest."

But how could there be such a good thing? Not long after we lay down, the quilt was snatched away.

Blue veins popped on Bai Jiu's forehead. He looked at Moxi, then glared at me, and at last closed his eyes to restrain himself before asking in a stabilized voice: "Why aren't you doing your homework today?"

Moxi instantly jumped away from my hug to hurry out of bed and put on his shoes.

Furious that we got bothered at such an intimate moment, I grasped Moxi's hand while looking at Bai Jiu saying: "What are you running for? We aren't adulterers caught in bed."

[collapse]

Some might argue that all is forgiven because it was released back in 2011, but oh well, 2011 wasn't exactly the year of "it's completely socially acceptable for a grown woman to nibble on the ear of a 7 years old boy and raise him from childhood to marry him into adulthood" was it?

Others might repeat "Don't like it? Don't read it" but in my defense, how was I supposed to know it'll have something that I dislike? Nobody mentioned it in their review, so I just decided to write one myself in case anyone else feels uncomfortable with same things as I did. That's the main and only purpose behind my review. Another reason why I completed it was because I knew that if I hadn't, there would definitely be someone going "those who left the story halfway have no right to judge it", plus I kept thinking that maybe... just maybe the author would ever point it out as something wrong or go 'sike' rather than continue treating it as something completely normal.

Honestly, I don't even get why she had to meet and raise him as an infant/child when their interactions were a lot better by the time both were adults. I've also read this author's other works and many of her couples have been adults, too. So it isn't directed towards the author herself, this review is solely about this single novel.

Also, I'm completely aware that the FL is a stone. But both the author and the readers are human, so it's only natural to seek some kind of human logic out of this story. Not to mention, the FL isn't the first or last stone protagonist to exist, I've read plenty of novels of stones gaining sentiments and a human/god form, but I've yet to see another novel besides this one where the MC did such things... On the contrary, I've read one where the stone MC repeatedly helped the severely abused ML, both by freeing him from that terrible place and by letting him realise that he isn't 'filthy' or 'unworthy of love', all while maintaining the overall this-guy-is-literally-a-stone vibes, so being a stone doesn't equal or justify being a groomer and not acting inappropriate towards a literal child doesn't mean I want her to go OOC because it has nothing to do with her being a stone to begin with.

And it's not that I'm incapable of reading about morally grey or less-than-perfect characters who don't abide by human morals. However, morally grey characters aren't portrayed as good people. For example, if someone who isn't supposed to be nice to begin with and the author acknowledge they're wrong, brutally kills a person - it's expected. But if you tell me a supposedly 'kind, innocent, morally superior' protagonist is doing the same, it's not far-fetched to say they aren't as 'kind, innocent, morally superior' as they're said to be. And I'm totally not a fan of inappropriate behaviour toward kids being portrayed as 'humourous' or 'romantic' even if a character is supposed to be morally grey (which wasn't the case here, the FL is basically treated like a holy saintess who's 'too innocent' to know she shouldn't be nibbling on a kid's ear).

Besides, is it really that big of a deal to not want a fully-grown, adult character to be 'romantically interested' in a child? I don't think so. The usual excuses, such as 'bro bro bro she is actually a 7000 years old dragon in a child's body trust me' that you might see frequently in jp novels, can't even work here because the ML was physically, mentally, emotionally a child raised by a woman who wanted to marry him right from the day she saw him as an infant or a orphan child, and treated him as a 'lover' throughout all his childhood years while never letting him develop a friendship, let alone an innocent crush, with kids his age, thus causing him to be entirely dependent on her. <<less

Seeing the overwhelmingly positive reviews, I had to see for myself if this novel indeed deserves the much-coveted 4.9 rating. And after reading it, I actually had to reconsider if I should change some of the 5-star ratings I've given in the past because compared to this masterpiece, some of the novels I've read are just dim in comparison. So this is your average reader reporting that the praises sung about Wangchuan Wu Shang are not unwarranted.

But don't take my word for it. Read it yourself. (5/5)

This is Mango approved.

I think that whenever someone reads this series, the first thing that comes to their mind is: This is better than 'Seven Unfortunate Lifetimes, All Thanks to a Single Moment of Impulse', which is a series with a similar theme. Except, it has seven lifetimes as opposed to the three lifetimes of this one. Why do I feel so?

Because we have only 3 lifetimes (and 18 chapters), we are always hooked on to this one. There is never a dull moment that will make you feel that... more>> this one is not worth it. It is natural, considering the length. However, the 18 chapters themselves make you very teared up~

Their romance is really good, with a healthy dose of both comedy and feels. Here, the female lead almost always stays an 'immortal' throughout her mortal reincarnations, and thus gets termed a demon. This adds a really good amount of conflict into the story-A conflict with no real antagonist. And this lack of antagonist helps this series-There is no lacklustre antagonist. Because frankly having an antagonist would be bad. And the writer did well.

This story, even though it has its mature moments, mainly stays in the cute category. Read it. You will not be disappointed...I mean, it is kinda small~~

Also, the side characters who actually don't get too much screen time are also very lovable. we have enough understanding of their characters to appreciate them. And the ending of the story is really well done- It is not an end. It shows that their further life will also most likely contain hardships, but they will have to support each other to glide through the difficulties. <<less

It seems like a lot of people like this story and I can somewhat see why but pardon me as I give my personal opinion.

To start off, the story is readable, I didn't notice any grammar mistakes if they were there so I was able to get through the story pretty easily. Good job team.

Onto the story, if I'm being honest, the female lead is kind of a creep. In I think it was 2 of the worlds, she raises the ml, and still gives him kisses on the lips... more>> and treats him as a man when that's something he's not. Yes she got his consent when they were in the underworld but at that time he was and adult with his memories. When they met again he was a child, a literal child. This aspect of the story just didn't sit right with me and I'd feel very uncomfortable when she'd get jealous of his affection onto another when he hadn't yet matured enough. I personally felt like it was giving child bride vibes and I wasn't rocking with that. This one aspect continuing throughout both of those worlds turned me off from the story and I just couldn't seem to enjoy it. <<less

At first, the sypnosis hadn't really appealed to me. Though after several minutes of contemplation and persuasions from the review section, I decided to give this awesome love story a read. No words can describe how touched I was/am with this story. For three memorable lifetimes, our quirky and bubbly female lead acts as an adorable 'seducer' for our male lead, Moxi. You won't be disappointed with the interactions between the two main protagonists. It was comedic at first, but then again, laced with touches of sensitive emotions. Such as:... more>> bliss in the little things and melancholy, from various trials. I dare assume you'd often forget the pair can't actually 'die'. Yet the charm lingers; their mortal love, trespasses even through immortality. Don't think too much. Just feel. <<less

First, I'm going to address the tragedy tag. Right, FYI, I'm the kind of person who doesn't actually like tragedy or excessive angst in my fiction. I've buried enough family members in my life, even if they're all from the older generation, it doesn't mean it hurt any less when they're cut down in the prime of life. If I wanted to feel pathos, I can just visit any of their graves any time and wallow.

This story? It's excellent. Even if it's short, it still manages to touch the various... more>> challenges and difficulties of human life. I don't think it's excessively tragic. Why? Because from the beginning we know that Moxi, the Celestial Realm's God of War, went to the underworld to be reborn. Here, he is about to experience trials and tribulations for three mortal lifetimes in order to ascend to a higher level. This is where he met the MC and our heroine, Sansheng, the spirit of a large-ish stone of the Wang Chuan River (River of Oblivion, the Chinese mythology counterpart to the River Lethe).

Just from the title of what he's there for already gives us an inkling that none of his lives are going to be easy. That's part and parcel of the test of his mettle and moral fortitude. That's also the approach Sansheng took most of the time (until the last life, where she's really feeling it/getting carried away), because with her memories and abilities intact, she doesn't really feel the suffering as permanent. That's why I can read the three lifetimes they went through together with a certain calmness; to quote Gandalf, I can be sure that 'this, too, shall pass'.

With that in mind, the hardships and challenges of the three lifetimes are instead an excellent opportunity to see Sansheng's earnestness to accompany him, support him in his trials while she also does her best to seduce him. It's also touching to see him start to make space in his life for her, and how deep she'd managed to burrow inside his heart. The main characters are great in their own right too; I do think of them fondly as their own people. In the end, his heart was touched by her love and he reciprocated her feelings.

I'd certainly reread this story when I'm in the mood in the future. But for any readers worrying about what they're going to get in this story--have no fear, there's a happy ending at the very end ;). <<less

This is the first time I'm writing a review and I'm proud to say that it is for this story. The flow of the story is extremely good as Sasheng (main female character) and Moxi (main male character) go through various trials in their three mortal lives in order to be together. This story has moments of tragedy, comedy, and sweet romance that tugs at the heart of the reader. I am guilty of being skeptical of this story and how well it is but I am glad I gave... more>> it a try. This was seriously one of the best decisions I have made in my life and believe me if I say I have not made many good ones in my life. <<less

I love this novel to the point where I could not help but think of this novel over and over again for the next days! I wish there were more novels about living different lives, I would totally read them all! Unfortunately the only novel I know with a similar plot of 7 lifetimes, and I love that to death as well! Uwaaa, both the female and male lead are so cute and perfect together! It was short, but I love it! I want more uwaaa

It was underwhelming. I was expecting real deep love stories filled with intricate abstract expression that would leave me feeling hollow but expectant. It was my fault for reading the reviews that all over praised this work.

It's decent. Not as godly as other reviewers made it to be. It was short, yes. Very thorough. Simple. Straight to the point. But the story is too simple. Idk. Maybe just not my cup of tea. I thought it'd be heartshaking tragedy each lifetime since that's their tribulation and make no mistake it... more>> IS tragedy (look at the tag) but... Idk... Not deserving for tragedy tag I guess.

My heart just didn't shake and squeeze the way I read all the other tragic stories. There was so little drama too so it didn't fill in any space of the unsatisfying tragedy. Maybe it was because Sansheng, FL, as the narrator, was not a good narrator. And it also erases the expectation with her always remembering her life and then proceeded to finding the ML without much trouble.

I was expecting more from the reviews. This is one case of the reviews disappoint me. Just recently I read Our Second Master because of the reviews and felt greatly fulfilled. This time I decided to trust the reviews again and left disappointed.

I have many complaints.

1. The fact the FMC doesn't lose her memory isn't what bothers me, it's the fact it's very convenient for her.

2. Female lead roughly figured out the outline of the ML's lives and PLANNED his life for him. Kinda like a creepy stalker. (This bothers me so much)

3. On some odd times, the FL will conveniently have enough power to support the ML through the most dreaded situation. It erases the stake of conflict.

4. Connected to number 3, there's NO stake in this novel. As a writer, I deeply etched the rule 'Have a stake' to stories I wrote so it feels realistic. There's NO good story out there that doesn't have a stake. This novel doesn't have it. Some might argue the stakes is death BUT Sansheng is not even a human, she knows she'll be reincarnated, she doesn't even fear death. Technically, none of them ever died. Think of it like diving into a virtual reality where you can absorb yourself into, yeah you feel pain and die in the game but when you turned off the game, it was nothing. The rating of this novel is so high that I thought there will be a stake.

It's so short and it feels like a chore for Sansheng. Again, she's not a reliable narrator (I hate it so much when MC is not a reliable character, it's a mirror of the author not knowing what they're writing.)

The punishment doesn't feels like punishment. Sansheng just speedrun through it that I can't even stop and appreciate the ML. ML is kinda pitiful, not because of his 'tragic' lifetimes, but because he feels like a tool and what screentime he showed up in made me feel apathetic. Sansheng truly made it feels like the ML is her game avatar that she planned all his life for. Can you feel sympathetic to a game character in short 19 chapters?

Dang it, coming here again and recalling the story makes me mad with myself, the story, and the reviews that vaunt this as godly. 2 stars! <<less

Sansheng, Death not Exist in the River of Oblivion.
It's like I found the perfect novel I'm always looking for.
>moe gap (or more like: Heavenly relationship gap!)
>straightforward mc/s (singleminded / focused to a goal)
>reincarnation or (and) transmigration
>satisfactory ending (its does not feel rushed. Its a book that when I stop reading I get a feeling that I closed a book with a slight sigh and ready to start doing something actually productive for a while.)

I don't know what abomination I have just read, like just wow. There is 15 chapters in the main story, making up 3 arc. Every arc would try to make you shed tear at least once. This thing has made me cry once in my lecture and the other time on the bus (once in first 2 arc), it's pretty embarrassing.... I mean I didn't cry for quite a long time already... even better this comes with nose block :) That aside, it flows nicely, I am unsure of others,... more>> but I felt very touch for what the girl did for the guy. There are also moment that you think it's sweet, depressing & sad and happy. It gives reader quite a larger spectrum of emotion.

The side story are great, I am grateful to have those. At the end of the day, this is a very good manga, but since I have read about something disturbing at side story 3, I won't give it a full score and instead a 9 out of 5.

A must read for female protag D:

PS: Arc 3 made me cry twice :) be careful where you read this and have some tissue prepared. o/ <<less

When I read stories that included the word "fate" in them, I'd analyze the story and then think "nah not really". This novel though, the word "fate" is definitely the only word for their meeting. There is barely discernible romance development, because there is only the fated meeting, and then unconditional love from MC. The plot of the couple's trials was built beautifully around this fate. It was very well done.

Probably due to both leads being originally immortal and the MC's carefree and patient nature (she only ever focused on... more>> the male lead), I couldn't take the tragedies seriously. After finishing the story, all I can feel is the cuteness, fluffiness, warmheartedness and stubbornness of their love, albeit a dash of grief for what happened during their three lifetimes. <<less

sansheng is cute, definitely cute, surely cute, this story is cute as well as the female lead. The male lead can be pushy sometimes, but sansheng could be more stubborn with her pure way of thinking and it makes things awkward for people around her. The story can be seen as tragedy as well. The author is pretty good at making the reader swallows the bitter and sweet experience from reading the novel. Recommended if you are looking for cute and sad novel at the same time.

Alright. I know the writing is super good. And it is highly rated as well. I also tried to convince myself to think so. But no. I dislike it. This has grooming in it. Twice!

You raising a child so that they can grow up to marry you is 100% grooming. I felt very uncomfortable because of this. I wish there was some other way this was written because the writing style is good.

Read this because of the high ratings but I was disappointed.

While the story is not bad per se, I found the MC to be pretty creepy. I found her actions towards the ML when he was a CHILD to be too much. The first two lives were still okay but the third one made me very uncomfortable. I know he's thousands years old he doesnt have his memories at that time so his mind was of a child. I also couldn't understand her jealousy during their third life as I... more>> think it was unreasonable.

All in all, I could kinda see why this novel's rating is so high and honestly if it wasnt for the uncomfortable "MC treating a child as her husband" scenes, I would've rated this a solid 4. <<less
