Why the hell was there no tragedy tag at first? I'm sitting here at work, trying not to bawl my eyes out.

The story is beautiful but without a happy ending, so I just can't rate it 5 Stars. But to everyone who likes this kind of stuff: it's really a good read

This is a sad and major angst short story. There is no happy ending between the MC and ML and they don't get together so if you like HE (happy endings) then this isn't for you. But I recommend this to anyone who likes heartbreaking, tear-jerking novels.

Summary: He Shu becomes a part of his boyfriend's mind to try to prevent his death that he caused.

Spoiler

He Shu learns that he indirectly caused his boyfriend's death so he became a part of Su QingYan's mind and told him how to avoid his death. He fails and each time he goes back farther in their timeline and after x numbers of times he realizes that he will have to die to save Su QingYan. He Shu also erases Su QingYan's memory each time he dies so Su QingYan never remembers He Shu each time he dies. But at the end when Su QingYan realizes that he fell in love with He Shu, he asks He Shu to not erase his memory.

The grammar and word choice of this translation can't really be considered good so grammar nazis would suffer a lot if they chose to read this. However if you can overlook that, 4:48 is worth recommending. It's a bit predictable, but not overly so, and definitely deserves its Tragedy tag so don't go in with expectations of a happily ever after. It's definitely bittersweet at some points- with emphasis on the bitter- but what I like most is how strong the MC's and ML's feelings for each other are. As... more>> for who the ML is... Well that's up to the reader to figure out. <<less

I read this without bothering to read the synopsis (because sometimes translated Chinese synopsises don't make a lot of sense) and it wasn't what I was expecting- in a good way. I would recommend reading this short novel without looking at the tags and description, it was a bittersweet but gorgeous read.

The ending made me sad, but it's what makes the story beautiful. In the end, I was wondering why He Shu, in the 99th world, seemed to recognise QingYan on the rooftop. Also, I wondered why he was committing su*cide?

Then, I realised the title of the story is 4:48, the most vulnerable time for a person to su*cide. It also made me realise that perhaps He Shu didn't forget his experiences in all the worlds, like QingYan did, which is why his wish to rescue QingYan was so strong. When I was reading the novel, it was hard to explain some of He Shu's actions despite knowing that he loved QingYan and I think it was only after completing the story and thinking over it a bit- did I understand.

Overall I really loved this story, definitely bookmarking it to read sometime again.

If you love poignant and bittersweet love stories and don't mind a BE, then definitely give this a try. <<less

This is so heart breaking, the MC and ML are obviously in love but it's like the whole world is against them. They can't be together no matter what... It's truly a tragedy.

Nice and sad short story, but not perfect.

If you are a new reader go into it completely blind and do not continue to read this review. I fully recommend this story.

For people that read this already here is my more in-depth review:

I feel that the involvement of the cousin was irrelevant and wasted chapters. Even though the story was very predictable (at least to me) I felt that going more in-depth with the characters relationship would have made this perfect. That was the main reason I didn't cry, I didn't see enough of the relationship between the two. Also I have unanswered questions: why was the ML so cold at the beginning? Did he have a affair with his cousin? (I doubt it) The ML seems to know that him dying would prevent the MC for dying, so why try preventing him for seeing his cousin? I'm assuming the reason that the ML try to kill himself at the MC job was because he was in love with the MC and felt like he had no chance. If so then the ML is kinda batsh*t crazy. Like why didn't he try to make the first move? Overall I think the story would have been better if we knew why they were in love and how did they fall in love with each other. I cared about the MC but not really the ML, especially since the earlier chapters made him seem like a dirty cheater. Having the MC fall in love with zero is a perfect way to show this, especially at the end when everything was revealed, but the author mostly skipped over these interactions, so it felt kinda forced. I know I'm mainly talking about the negatives, but these just stuck out to me. Other then those above and some nic picks, I fully enjoyed this piece and fully recommend.

SO GOOD! I had a hunch about the plot twist but when it was revealed, my heart just completely dropped. I felt helpless, they really do love eachother that much huh... Especially when MC was calling for ML, my heart was in pain.

As for those who are complaining about the translation... It was MTL, look at the translator’s “about me” section, it was all MTL, I did read the about me section first before the story so I knew what was coming. It doesnt ruin the reading experience much, it’s... more>> a good one so please, do give it a shot! <<less

Soooo I read this like a year or two ago, and I saw this right now and decided to write a review on it. It was so good and so sad. Super angsty and tragic. I honestly hate sad books because they make me so depressed. But now that it's been a while, I can say it's an amazing book and I feel a lot of nostalgia towards it. The plot twist was UGHghghh. I wish it could've ended happier.

I loved the novel, the twist, the characters. But I feel like the plot could´ve been a bit better, but I won´t lie, it made me shed some tears. ANYWAYS, stop reading reviews, go read the actual novel because it´s only 8 chapters, and I promise you, it´s a pretty good read <3

A short angsty read, wish it dove deeper into the background and how "Zero" came to be.

I will make sure to read reviews before reading the stories from now onwards. After a series of sad stories, I wanted to read something uplifting and here I ended up with 4:48.

But I really liked the idea put into the plot, something worth calling remarkable.

Idk if it's the translator or the author, but I missed the real angst in it. The plot was sad and fine, but it lacked emotions in the writing. And as a reader who has being sitting with classics to bl stories, I really look... more>> up to how an author would present their thoughts. And the story lacked in that category.

I don't mostly write reviews, but this one forced me to voice out my thoughts, cause I really enjoyed the plot (which is considerably fitting for the short story), but missed those feels.

The translations are a bit off, so it might be disturbing for who concerns for grammar.

I gave it 4 stars. Idk how it ended up being one, and now I don't know how to edit the stars.
Spoiler

Zero is actually the ML's (I suppose he's the ML, so naturally I am assuming the other is MC) consciousness from the future. When the MC dies, ML wishes to go back to past and save the MC. The first attempt fails, and so he tries again until the 99th time when ML realises that, them being together is the reason why he cannot save the MC. So ML, on the 99th times decides that he won't let the MC meet the ML. But at the end MC dies to save the never-met MC. And then he discovers that one of them must die for the other to live on. So he decides to die himself.

。:゚ (。ノω\。) ゚・。 It’s tragedy alright. But unlike some other yaoi tragedies that makes my heart clench and I feel uncomfortable for a week after the ending, this one is sweet. The translation grammar is quite dodgy, but you’ll be able to understand.

I read this before I saw the tragedy tag, in result I am now suffering.

It's bittersweet and it really hurt me emotionally to read. I think it was written pretty well, considering the fact I was emotionally moved from it. The translating wasn't as good but it doesn't ruin the story.

Overall, it is a good read- if you enjoy tragedies. (⌣_⌣”)

This is a sad little story.

While I do wish we could have learned a little bit more in depth about the characters, all together it was an interesting read.

The translation is a little lacking in some parts, but not enough to really take away from the story.

In the end I would recommend if you're interested in a short, Bittersweet, tearjerker.

what a heartbreaking novel.

its been roughly 20 min since I started reading it, and 10 minutes after reading it I am still crying. While reading I already had a hunch about zero identity.

this novel was on my reading list for quite some time, so today I thought should give it a try. ahhhhh! my tears cant stop falling.......

Anyway an amazing read and a whole new concept. I dont think I have the courage to read it again though.

Special thanks to the translators and the author.

I love tragedy but this one... made me cry like hell!!!!! JUST LOVE IT!!!! If you like tragedy then you should read this novel. Translation was somehow unacceptable but you can understand the story. I don't know it was just me or others feel the same but I think the author didn't put enough emotion into it. But it was a nice novel.
