This is the story of a gamer who suddenly finds a game installed on his computer that he has no way of deleting. The character stats are the same as him in real-life, and he assigns the extra points into charisma. Soon enough he finds out that his charisma points apply to the real world too. He thus starts his journey to become OP in both worlds and get a lot of girls... is not what this story is about.

Instead, the character freaks out.
This story is, surprisingly, a... more>> psychological/mystery/survival set in a Xianxia game setting.

The most interesting part about the protagonist is, paradoxically, that he's completely normal.
- He feels disturbed at the events happening in both the game and in real life, just like a normal person.
- He comes up with ways to test his hypotheses, just like... a normal person with brains. But his intelligence is still normal, and the author never tries to pass him off as exceptional in anything except gaming.
- He sometimes loses his cool too, and gets mad at the one person he shouldn't... which is just like a normal person too, because his whole reality is going haywire.
- He seriously considers unplugging his computer, like a normal person. But doesn't, because he doesn't know what'd happen, like a normal coward.
- And when he starts thinking that the characters in the game are too much like real people, he feels very disturbed, again like a normal person.
He's a normal person, not a Xianxia hero. This actually makes this a rarity in this genre.

The story proceeds very, very carefully. The player doesn't have an easy time with the game, it's very realistic and he needs months of training and all his attention just to gain a couple of stat points and survive the next event (and he realizes that he Must not let his character die). He finally finds one person that seems to know what is going on, but she is evasive and heavily implies to him that he must never speak the game's terms, only adding to his growing anxiety.

I've also read a bit ahead, and I can say that the mystery isn't something that gets answered in one chapter, instead it's something he progressively unveils about as he progresses, all while facing very difficult situations and fighting a dreaded battle against time.

So this story is surprisingly unique. It does give you the uncomfortable feeling that it'd become a typical xianxia anytime now, but that actually has not happened (not even in the raws out so far). So try it out, it's surprisingly interesting. <<less

Hmm, it is rather interesting so far, though the Main Character, Yue Qiang does often rant about his Single Player Game obsession. Still not too sure whether that's the Author's Mouthpiece or simply the character's quirk.

Synopsis that is longer than the author's:

Yue Qiang is a gamer. He hasn't devolved into a no-life gamer or full-time NEET, but he seems to be angling there. One day, a game suddenly pops into his PC and basically install itself, and practically takes over the computer. Interestingly, the main character is him, and the... more>> stat points he allocated apparently crosses over to real life.

Now, he is fully invested in trying his best on finding all the hidden gems (and the stat point rewards) in the game! <<less

The story is about a guy who one day finds that a game is on his computer and he is forced to play it (he can't get out of it and when he restarts his computer it immediately loads again). So when he gets to distribute his game points (he gets 8 free points) he puts it all in charm and it effects his real life charm.

Right now I'm at chapter 5 and so far he is still exploring the game usage but it has a lot of potential. It... more>> is not virtual reality, it is a clicker game that he plays with his mouse and keyboard and he is not trapped in the game he just can't play or load any other game on his computer so he is forced to play it. <<less

Interesting idea, not-so-interesting characters. I guess maybe that's keeping with the theme of old-school single-player games that are just about grinding to reach the top, but those were always really boring to watch other people play, especially when the other person has the personality of a doorknob.

The description is extremely deceptive. After reading it you may think this is some wish-fulfilment story where the MC goes around picking up chicks, and you couldn't be more wrong. There's none of that stuff here. SPO mainly focuses on mystery and exploration. The MC is trapped in a strange, urgent circumstances, and he struggles to survive in a foreign world. Everything in SPO is glazed with a delicious layer of mystery, every paragraph pulling the reader deeper.

Each character the MC meets is someone with their own story- there are... more>> no cookie cutter arrogant young masters or jade vases. Also, although there aren't many action scenes, each one brings a real sense of tension that is difficult for the reader to remain indifferent to

One of the most interesting novels on NU, definitely worth a read. <<less

This is perhaps the most polished piece amongst web novels I've read to date. While the deck still seems firmly stacked in the MC's favor as per usual, the author is much better at creating a realistic semblance of legitimate struggle for the MC. He's not constantly being miraculously gifted with all the best things via some boorish Deus ex machina contrivance by the author.

The characters feel well-developed and are interesting. The plot is intriguing and hooked me in pretty quick.

Definitely worth being added to the reading list.

Okay I've just read till the recent chapter, and it might be too soon to write a review. But this one has something different than all the other novels. You are not reading about reincarnation, nor about game rings appearing in real lives

Spoiler

As I see it MC will be literally going to live 2 lives. One through his computer and another one is his real life

[collapse]

Chapter are somewhat short, but translation is good and premise is interesting. Again maybe it's too early to write the review, but I want this work to get attention. Try it, it's different in a good way. <<less

First of all. The people not rating 4-5 stars, they're harping on things that end up being resolved.

I need to say that this is NOT an urban fantasy grinding novel. Despite what the synopsis says, the charm stat is not specifically important. He could've placed it in anything, strength, vitality, bleh bleh bleh. His looks are barely even mentioned in this novel.

Second. The beginning is really good, there's a lot of excitement and tension from every fight, because you really never know whats going to happen or how it'll be... more>> resolved.

Middle, where he leaves the village and up until the end of the two tigers, is really boring. Because it starts to get a little repetitive. Skim it, it's still pretty necessary for the plot.

After that... Ohh it gets really really good. Everything is very very very confusing. But in a good way. It's like an "Oh my god what the hell" kind of thing.

But the shitty translator decided to drop it 2 years ago, cutting right into this interesting part. <<less

Great! This is the type of WN that will have you constantly trying to guess the underlying mystery of the world. This WN has a bit of a MATRIX feel to it, set in a mix of ancient China and the modern world. The stakes are also life and death, where death in the game means death IRL. Stat gains in the game reflect in real life as well, but the prime focus of this WN so far seems to be on the game.

Translation and editing quality is top notch.... more>> Give it a try! <<less

Hmm I kinda like this story with no-vrmmorpg stuff just regular game but I'm kinda p*sed by the MC's bragging of his abilities like ''I'm a pro in solo game non-online stuff but this story has a potential with a proper plot and the MC's not your usual hikiNEET (the dude is not serious in school but still goes so his not a NEET just a Hiki~!) but the story in his RL is just kinda bad but in the game is where the ''plot I belive but *shruggs* depends... more>> in your taste~ <<less

Interesting mystery, the other stuff is just kind of there. I remember dropping this years ago around chapter 40, started reading it again and realized I was looking at the novel the wrong way. Read this for the mystery not for the game elements.

It is pretty interesting so far but it is too soon to tell as I've only read 6 chapters. The main character has the ability to change his stats in real life. Looking forward to reading future chapters.

Don't bother with this. It was dropped by the translator. As for the translator he definitely is inexperienced in English and most likely uses a thesaurus for his translations as his word choice is so hilariously technical that it smacks of some low IQ dunce using big words without understanding their meaning or why brevity is better.

To compound the translation issues the lazy do nothing editor apparently never informed the translator that inserting inane (T/N) directly into your translation to explain game terms is obnoxious as it breaks the flow... more>> of the story. This becomes more frequent as you read more chapters. But it doesn't stop there as being obnoxious isn't enough for the translator. The translator will hold the reader's hand through copious (T/N) to "clarify" the story as he apparently doesn't believe the reader is intelligent enough to understand the story on his own. <<less
