When I was 15-years-old, during the year that I graduated from middle school, my father told me this.

“The Devil’s blood runs in our family.”

That was the truth. Sadly my father was the owner of a takeaway chicken shop with the talent of turning his eyes blue, and I was the son of the takeaway shop who just happened to be slightly stronger than others.

But five years later.

They came for me.

This is the best dungeon building novel I 've read so far without a doubt.. It started off slow but it got better by every chapter. Wonderfully written action sequences too. Highly recommended..

I read around 1/3 of the novel (a bit less I guess) to give it a try. I really wanted to read half, but it's too boring. I read the last 10-20 chapters one at a time and skimming some of them.

Yes. This is the biggest issue with the novel—it's simply boring. The characters have no life, no agency to them. For example, the protagonist was brought to another world to be a dungeon master, but it's like he agreed because they begged him, and he's weak to such things.... more>> Later, so-called greed (of the 7 deadly sins) awakens in MC, and this is like the only desire he has (he had nothing before).

The characters in general are very boring. There are literally like 2-3 characters which have an actual agenda, but it's shrouded in mystery, and the characters themselves don't really offer enough to be interesting. For most characters, all they have is their appearance and backstory (it's like the author summarized what kind of characters they were, and then used the summary instead of the full version in the novel). No real motives, no real initiative to do anything, little emotion to show, no interesting actions, no funny antics, no nothing. The chapters that spend time on other characters unrelated to MC are also boring as hell. Big disappointment.

Setting is... very cliche. The premise is also cliche but acceptable, it's basically on the level of Toika... and his worst novel, The Demon King, which means it's okay but nothing special. As for the rest of the setting, it's pretty boring. So is the action. Most of it is just boring fights and various stuff. MC tries to grow from the virg*n he is, but this growth slows down so much I lost patience with the novel, and this means there's nothing to read apart from fights and MC growing his strength (for no real reason, may I remind, since he has no strong motivations) because he stops trying to do anything else.

Spoiler

It can be seen that MC has a liking for one female character, but he literally does nothing about it for tens of chapters. At best he'll tease her a few times ACROSS THOSE TENS OF CHAPTERS. If you expect romance from this novel, you'll be rather disappointed.

[collapse]

The reviews were many 5 stars, but what is the truth? The part I read deserved 2 stars at most. So, so, so boring. <<less

I think this story is one of the better ones on the site. It doesn't hurt that the author is my favorite one here.

Overall, the characters are likable and there weren't any glaring problems with the plot. There are only a couple small details that I didn't love.

First, although I shouldn't have expected much because of the lack of a romance tag, the romantic subplots were kinda dull. This isn't to say that any of the couples lacked chemistry or anything, the author didn't put an emphasis on relationship developments.

The... more>> only real issue I had was the pacing. It wasn't bad, and I'm not suggesting that it follow suit of Chinese novels by padding out the word count with 90% filler. It's just that everything seemed to happen too quickly. The ending seemed rushed,

Spoiler

and the author introduced a new final boss in the last 10-20 chapters that they defeat after the ending of the story but before the epilogue.

[collapse]

I think the story would have done well to have several more chapters for character development and to flesh it the ending more. The story feel into the same problem many shonen anime fall into: an overemphasis on power development instead of character development. Not that there wasn't any, but I'd like to have seen more.

Don't let these stop you from reading it though. I enjoyed the story. While it isn't quite a masterpiece (unlike Ending Maker by the same author) I think it was well worth the read. <<less

Not a bad novel but not exactly good as well. Would rate this novel 3.6/5. The novel introduced many aspects (evolution, army-building, etc.) that would have made the story really interesting but unfortunately, the details were lost as the story progresses and fillers were put in place instead. The translation is also kinda botched, especially in the first 80-90 chapters. The inaccurate use of pronouns is frustrating, especially when it is about the enemy as you become rather confused about the actual number of enemies.

As someone who didn’t really care for authors other novels that much this one is by far the worst I’ve read.

7 chapters in and I found myself yawning so much that it made me tired from reading just one chapter, it’s mainly because it reads like the authors other works.

I know they say stick with what works but that doesn’t mean copy and paste the same novel while changing a few things.

... more>> MC: Nothing to be said, that’s how forgettable he is.

Characters: Same as his other novels, exactly the same personalities with just different names. <<less

5 stars for the enjoyment. I rarely rate low tbh, and if I dislike a story, unless it really ticks me off, I wouldn't even bother rating it.

Anyways, as for the story itself, it's around average really, nothing too bad, the usual "7 deadly sins" stuff. I do enjoy those kinds of story though hence the rating.

The thing that really bothers me is the translation quality, It's readable, but It does bother you and breaks immersion, but hey, it's prolly a fan TL so I'm at least thankful someone even... more>> bothered to translated it. <<less

A Dungeon Management WN, with an MC who's an Engineer, is something I should wholeheartedly enjoy. Unfortunately the author made Yong-Ho far too immature for my liking. So dealing with an unfamiliar evolution system and slaughtering dungeon invaders aren't that big of a deal for him. But throw a hot female into the mix and Yong-Ho squirms in anguish and losses that calm demeanour. Guess I could just parrot the author by saying "it's because he studied in an all boys middle, high school & college." But there's too much... more>> focus put on the harem and not enough on world building.

Alas this is primarily a story on Dungeon Management and Dungeon Maker does enough things right to make it worth a read. By way of all the planning & prepping the dungeon for tense battles, the gathering of likeable characters along with their controlled evolutions. Yet as per usual, the author gets lazy as the story progresses. The intricate litRPG aspects disappear and the story simplifies into just "Get stronger & Fight!" Ending in a rushed and predictable manner. <<less

Great novel as always, marred only by a little bit of translation problems, specifically pronouns. When 3 different characters of different genders are all in a conversation, mixing pronouns becomes a headache. While there are only a few times where I had to re-read a whole paragraph to understand who was talking/doing what to whom, its still quite annoying.

Spoiler

It didn't help that one of the characters was androgynous. The writer seemed to have purposefully alternated he and she in the situation with this particular character, however, because the translators had mistaken a bunch of other pronouns for other characters with clearly identified genders, that plot twist was lost.

[collapse]

There were also a few situations that clearly was supposed to be funny anime/manga moments, but the translators did not have the capability of translating the joke properly. It ended up with characters being embarrassed, or flushed, with no apparent reason.

That said, these two problems did not stop the novel from being a good one. Not all jokes were lost in translation, and neither did all the pronouns. They were just enough to be a little annoyances. I think the pacing was great, and the novel had a proper ending with epilogue and all. Another reviewer mentioned the rushed final boss battle, but I slightly disagree. Since the beginning of the novel, this final boss battle had been foreshadowed.

Anyway, I enjoyed this one quite a bit, and looking forward to the next Chwiryong novel. <<less

Good novel and the background stories is detail too.

That is what I like about Chwiryong Novel tho.

And this novel is shared a universe (Earth) with his others novel that is Dungeon Maker

... more>> While the MC in Breakers is summoned into the world that look like a game.

The MC in Dungeon Maker is summoned into Demon World.

But both of them from the same Earth, there a reason why I said that but you will understand once you read both of them.

Overall I like Chwiryong and Toika novel is because both of them have their own ending and at least they finished their ending unlike some of those typical korean novel where they time travel to reset the stories in the end.

Give it a try guys. <<less

Honestly, it's not that good, and even if it were, then I couldn't tell because of the borderline mtl translation. The translator has real problems with pronouns.

The protagonist is really bland, same goes for the rest of the characters. The plot is simple and cliché, but lacks unity (maybe due to the bad translation). This novel brings nothing new to the table.

The translation made the events so confusing that I had to skim through most of the chapters.

In a word, the quality of the translation is tr*sh!

characters are flat, very little worldbuilding or sense of place - e.g. the first enemy demon king approaches on "combat carriers" (no mention of what's pulling them - are they self-propelled? what do they even look like? are they sturdy? if not, then why not attack them on their way to the dungeon? if so, then why not use those same materials to make something like a pavise so that the raiding party would have protection instead of having to tank the dungeon traps with their bodies alone?)

MC is... more>> not very clever, as mentioned by other reviews, and while that makes sense in the context of the story (he's just a random restaurant owner's son, not a tactical genius) it makes for pretty boring fights... basically everything the story does is to set up 1-on-1 duels with MC and some tough monster (no ranged weapons, no squad tactics, no use of terrain) and while the duels aren't written that badly, in the end they all boil down to "I use lots of mana to burn it to death"

yeah the story avoids a lot of the common pitfalls in japanese dungeon management stories (pointless ecchi, herbivorous protagonist, etc) but that doesn't matter when it doesn't do anything else right... I could pick almost any japanese story about being a dungeon master, even the ones I didn't like, and it would have better action and better characters and probably better descriptions as well <<less
