“I am the heroine of an otome game, so is it wrong to like the villainess?”

Corporate s*ave OL, Oohashi Rei, reincarnated as the heroine Rei Taylor in the world of the otome game 「Revolution」.

Her preference isn’t the capturable princes, it’s the villainess, Claire François.

She merrily accepts Claire’s dislike.

With the protagonist’s involvement, it’s the beginning of a unique romcom.

To make it worse, Rei’s love became directed at the villainess, what does Claire’s future hold?

It’s my second series with a screwball villainess.

A little different from ordinary… I hope you can enjoy the villainess who’s just a little different.

Excellently written. Beautiful story and characters.

It's such a rare find that I'm reading only a few chapters per day so the feeling lasts longer.

I don't like the protagonist.

I do not mind the political or gender identity talk, as it somehow matches the game setting. What I dislike was the protagonist forcing her own opinion to the rest of the cast. It's totally ironic how she talked about homos*xual can't be judged from one person and that different people with the same background may want different thing. Jump forward several chapter, she force her own view to another character- making a plot that would destroy the character's previous life so that the character have... more>> to life the live the MC believe as the best option. Totally kind of her.

*rant over*

Story wise it was enjoyable as long as you could gloss over the obvious plot holes. It feels like the author simply think the setting as your usual european city without giving the world much consideration. Be prepared stuff/demon/betrayal event could happen anytime and it's all make sense since "that's the event in otome game!". There's no clause and effect at all. Too bad since there's a lot of interesting character. <<less

I came across this novel when I was in the mood to read some Yuri.

I am pleased how this novel is not ashamed to include some taboo topics and managed to give me insight regarding those.

And recent development just makes this novel even better with madness is coming one after another.

With how things progressed, I hope this will be happy ending for both Ray and Claire.

In short, it's really gay and really good if you like really gay.

I Favor the Villainess was never quite what I expected, and usually quite a lot more. It starts by delivering more or less what it promises (light-hearted villainess-capture otome isekai), but fairly early on starts to explore more serious subjects. This may not be to everyone's taste, but I was personally thrilled when the light-hearted narrative took a pause and the novel instead delved into some common misconceptions surrounding lesbianism common in (among other things) a great deal... more>> of published yuri.

The first arc is ultimately as much about classism as it is a sweet love story between two women, a choice I didn't expect, but really impressed me. Not everything it attempts lands (and even some fan-favourite sections don't personally draw me in), but its honest and sometimes surprisingly frank portrayal of the struggles faced by marginalised groups of various sorts always kept me reading more.

There are a few reviews here that are critical of how the narrative not infrequently delves into serious issues, and some have accused the author of forcing her politics into the story. I personally don't find it "forced" but I will concede that the author's political beliefs make themselves explicitly known throughout the narrative. To my mind, however, that's not only not a problem, but is instead one of this story's greatest assets - that this story refused to ignore important social elements that are very real and important to me meant this resonated in a way that few stories ever can. The story felt deliberately structured to establish expectations in line with more conventional yuri so that it could subvert those expectations in a way that showed why those expectations are worth subverting. To me, that isn't forced, it's clever.

In the end, one's opinion of this will likely come down to what they want from this story. If a reader is just looking for some light-hearted yuri with nothing else to it (and that is something I have enjoyed on many occasions, so I do understand the appeal), this isn't for them. Honestly speaking, this is a story aimed squarely at queer women (including some genuinely excellent trans female representation) with a significant understanding of standard yuri/isekai/otome tropes, and as someone who squarely fits within that group, I view this as a masterpiece.

I also would like to acknowledge that the last ~20% of the story does experience a significant tonal shift that may not work for everyone. I broadly liked it (though the last handful of chapters did feel a bit oddly-paced), but I wouldn't be surprised if it's divisive even among those who liked what came before. Also, there are a number of details that might seem not okay early on (the tenacity of the protagonist in pursuing the titular "Villainess" can be read as getting a bit too close to s*xual harassment for comfort, for example), but personally I found almost all of these addressed and either rectified or justified by the end.

There is so much more I could say, as I tend to gush at length whenever discussing this story, but I should probably leave it there; this is probably more than long enough. It's good. Read it. <<less

It is a novel that can 'almost' be considered as a masterpiece, why 'almost'?, its because the author treated the novel as if its some kind of social media platform where he can rant again and again over his preconceptions and ideas about homosexuality and other kinds of topics. Honestly, the novel started quite strong with how it takes itself seriously addressing the dark parts revolving around the controversial topic which set it apart from a lot of yuri novels that is full of fanservices and comedy, you would then... more>> think that it will continue staying that way and that thought will turn into expectation wherein you're hoping for a slow and steady development with a great closure. But thats not how it went, a huge disappointment akin to having a bucket with cold water thrown to you will happen once you get past 50ch as the author completely f*cks up everything that he painstakingly and carefully built up only to destroy it along with the readers' admiration for the novel he created, and this is not an exaggeration because it is really painful to see a novel you've invested yourself into and treated as a cut above others degrade and fall because of dumb reasons, and here's a few of my concerns:

Spoiler

-it is pretty understandable that authors can be stressed out and anythings that affect their life can in turn, influence the novel they've been writing. But it would be much appreciated if inori (author) kept the ranting away from this novel though it is not to say that the topics he talked about are completely irrelevant to the novel, rather it is quite tiring to see someone spoonfeed you on how "lesbians aren't welcomed by society..., how homosexuals have a hard time being accepted by people they love, etc...." once is enough, the eagerness to impart a certain idea to others with an issue related to the story isnt completely out of place, reiterating the same thing again treating the viewer like dumb people who cant understand after being told once is a different matter.

-The latter half of the novel is probably better off being a side story/sequel or much better if it didnt exist at all, it felt as if it is a betrayal to everything done from the start until the supposedly great ending (which is the wedding around 120ch) as it is pretty much an unneeded continuation of the story posing no significance and only comes off as the author milking the success that the story of claire and rei had.

-Realism broken by bad writing. Everything that the author did are reasonable holding no excuse for the novel to turn into a shitfest, so what happened? the plot was decent regarding how an office worker (rei) who had a trauma to what happened to her past involving her homosexuality got infatuated with the villainess (claire) in an otome game she plays, then suddenly she got transmigrated to that very same game as the protagonist, so obviously she resolved herself to protect claire with everything she has against the upcoming dangers ahead which starts a simple relationship as a fan who wishes to get close to her idol and a noble girl who is deeply annoyed by being pestered by a commoner to deeper bond between them. Supplemented by great execution, the story kicks off very impactful as it combined the standard otome game trope with yuri and dark undertones, until, the author contradicts everything by making everyone related to the protagonist as homosexuals, best friend of rei that is in love with the prince? it turns out that the prince is actually a girl, relative of claire who is described as cool? it turns out she is also a lesbian who got rejected by a maid, the daughter of the prime minister? she is also a homo, the three friends of the MC in her past life? they are the same too, and with the second part of the novel they also introduced new characters, which are unsurprisingly, lesbians. Now this sounds like me being turned off by the amount of lesbians in the novel but these are secondary characters involved hence occupying a few chapters to satisfy their respective background stories, making it more infuriating and confusing on why did the author even create a normal premise if he is just going to forcefully ruin everything to fit his desired narrative especially with how he emphasized realism stating that the way homosexuality is treated in the otherworld is the same as the original one where they are foreign and frowned upon, that begs the question on how the hell did the author put so many of them in the novel despite their scarcity.

Due to certain circumstances, which includes a highly overpowered princess, our female love lead has started to catch feelings for our main female lead, even though till now her sexuality is explicitly heterosexual. Starting from a novel that tackled homosexuality in mature manner to now shoehorning the abstract concept of "love", this novel has spiraled to pure drama territory.

This is my first yuri novel and I think I just got 🤯. I really love this story and where it is going. I know some of the readers may think that from the 2nd vol and onwards of this book is 'weird' or 'sucks' but to me it's awesome and full of twists. It's what I have been looking for in a story, twists. I think it's a good read. The author has a great mind to have come up with this incredibly amazing story and deserve some credits

Edit:... more>> I actually meant to give it a five star but my clumsy hand accidentally gave it a two so, curse on you hand😩 <<less

Im gonna separate this into the first part and the sequel

First part-Aye, I liked it. A lot. Was worth rereading to me. Made me grin a lot like the idiot I am. Some fluff here and there, and serious topics did come up a few times. Still a 5 stars for me.

Then.... the sequel came in. It started off pretty nice.

Then the latest chapters came and some before those.
It kind of threw whatever world building there already was away with new details. It's more fantasy/adventure whatever the term... more>> is than yuri now.
This might not be a good decision since it might kinda disrespect the author.

But I'm going to pretend that the sequel never happened. Nonexistent. And they lived happily ever after with no

demon queen rei and some whatever it is parallel universes or something.

[collapse]

Whatever. But this is one of the novels on my list that I'll definitely reimember I read.

First part is up to chapter 112 and some extras.
Im still reading it for now. Maybe something will pop up and just kinda... make whatever happened somewhat better? <<less

This is a great fluffy yuri story until the childhood friend of Claire is introduced, she is a super OP 4 element caster and is really dark inside, terrible personality from there it just gets worse, it get really heavy handed with more lesbian characters and a gender dysphoria character. Rei tells multiple people stories abput her past life that would easily make people suspicious of who she is. It loses all it's light heartedness. I don't recommend it.

It is rare to find Yuri which is completed and is quality.

It begins on a humorous note. Somewhere along the line we deal with the insecurities of being a homosexual. The romance is well built and FL does not magically fall in love with MC. Everything is taken step by step until we reach our end. Love the character development and steady plot progressions.

The story is interesting even with the same transmigration and otome game theme. The story development doesn't seem force and it keep me reading more.

The characters or cute and they are really enjoyable to read. The characters development and thinking are understandable.

I hope future readers would also enjoy this relaxing and cute story. First time I write a comment so please be kind.

Thanks for reading.

I loved this novel. For the concept, and for the way the story went. I can't say much about the writing, since the translations I read were all done by machine... But... even with that, the story was interesting and exciting enough to shine through and keep me going!

This is a very politically heavy WN, it might have a slice of life elements but MC has a very strong ideological view even though she insists that she doesn’t like politics.

honestly, I would honestly play the effing love out of that otome game because of the good world building it has. Every character is explored and even if they have nothing to do with the romance-plot. It has coherence and consistency when it comes to the storyline which I liked. While it does deal with strong serious themes, it... more>> is a very lighthearted and humor based WN.

The main couple is the best aswell. Claire is obviously a tsundere and starts out completely arrogant, she has gradually has amazing character development during every arc. The protagonist can be described as the class clown at worst and at best is a tactician. The interaction between the two is very entertaining and fun to read. I can proudly recommend this for anyone who wants a good plot with good character dynamics <<less

4.8 outta 5

Emotionally speaking, because I just got done reading through it and currently high off it I want to give it a 5/5 I need to stay realistic here.

World building is great you get absorbed in it the more the story goes along. 4.5/5

... more>> Characters are great though it is mainly focused on just the two (Which are well-written). Nothing too spectacular with the side cast but they have depth. 4.7/5

Plot and Story are brilliant. 4.7/5

The translation is a little odd but doable. Few grammar errors. Highly recommend reading this on the Jingle Translation site. 4.4/5

And there is plenty of content including the extra R-18 chapter (which is accessible in the jingle translation site for a small fee-see to the site for further details) 4.9/5

Overall a brilliant heartfelt character driven story. <<less

story 4.5/5

... more>> You got it, this novel is, for me, is almost perfect in every way x)

Let's start from the beginning. I already search though the yuri tag on NU and didn't find this gem from the shoujo-ai tag *_* I was so happy, a completed shoujo-ai novel with a good rating *cross-fingers*

After reading till the middle point, I was already amazed, this is pure diamond there, the story isn't only a romcom, the author is taking a challenge to sensitize the readers to the homosexuals' situation and what's more, there's a plot ! \o/

The story is the classic trope of a girl/women reincarnating into the character of an otome game. This time, it's not into the villainess role but the heroine but since she's lesbian, well... *read title* ^^

The characters are really cute and you grow attached to them pretty quickly. About the MC... She's a total joyous-pe*vert-masochist-in-love with a tsundere villainess. There's quite a few interesting relationships and tags in this novel like
Spoiler

homosexuality, in*est, gender-bend

[collapse]
that makes it a real challenge for the author and a novel that get out of the lot. The story were really interesting in the first romcom part, then the academy part were a bit more hard to read since it's installing the darker big plot of the story. There's a lot of foreshadowing with a good pen-style that makes the suspense grow.

If I had to give a little ranting to this novel, it would be that the ending was a little bit too easy.
Spoiler

The big bad guy having suddenly been s*upid to not prepare for that eventuality.

[collapse]
and that it's written almost entirely with the MC's PoV so we don't really learn how the other characters really think or feels in reality.

otherwise, for a shoujo-ai novel, I just didn't expect this to be this good. The characters are given real personalities and the story is well written with a good style.

5/5, I recommend ^^ <<less
